Today's a good day to appreciate all creatures, not just the cute ones
if ur a nazi or neo-nazi or support nazi ideologies let this be a fucking harsh message that ur not welcome on this blog and I hope you get socked in the face
It is important that any polite young goblin keep his table manners in mind:
Elbows should be kept off the table: by keeping your elbows off the table you keep them ready to jab anyone who gets too close to your food.
When confronted with numerous eating utensils a good rule of thumb is to start by stealing the shiniest ones first
Eating with your hands is the sign of a properly brought up young goblin
There have been several conversations on the proper way to eat soup. Scooping soup into your mouth with your hands, lifting the bowl to slurp it noisily and putting your face into the bowl to drink are all acceptable.
Taking food off other peoples plates is a helpful and kindly thing to do, you are keeping their reflexes sharp and teaching them to guard their meal
Talk to both of your neighbors at the table unless they are dull in which case just shout to whomever you find interesting
Should an argument or difference of opinion break out try to calm the situation by biting the person you disagree with
Please keep in mind that many non goblins live in homes tragically devoid of moss, algae or interesting stones. For that reason it is recommended that you do not bring up such things lest the host be saddened and stop bringing you food
So! I read and write a lot of fanfiction whenever I get into a new fandom, and thus far Moomins has been no different. In the interest of sharing some of my favorites, I thought I’d go through and put together a fic recs post.
Keep in mind that this is not a comprehensive list of all the Moomins fanfics I’ve ever read and enjoyed! These are just the ones that have stuck with me the most. The Moomins AO3 tag has really taken off recently, and I highly encourage everyone to browse for themselves and give these authors some love. If going through fandom tags makes you nervous, fear not! Here is a link to the filtered version that I usually use.
To start off, here are some authors who have written enough gems that I can’t pick just one:
Bloodsbane: Some seriously good Joxter&Snufkin content. The creme de la creme is definitely When All is Still in Winter, though. It’s still ongoing, and it’s fantastic.
Princex_N: Lots of soft content, generally short and sweet. They’ve written a few fics about Snufkin having chronic pain that I found interesting, as well.
oOmackybOo: More softness, and Joxter&Snufkin father/son content! Perhaps you’re sensing a trend.
And without further ado, here is a list of Moomins fanfictions that have utterly wowed me over the past month or so.
your heart is gold and your hands are cold, by taizi: Ongoing. Taizi is another author who’s written a lot of good stuff, but this fic stands out to me in particular. I love fae stories, and this one has just the right flavor of eerie.
All That is Given, by WritingIsMyCoffee: Ongoing. One of the best Snufkin/Moomin fanfics I’ve read so far. I can’t exactly call it a slow burn because they get together in the first chapter, but the way their relationship develops from there is just, *chef’s kiss*. Also the ending of Chapter 10 was a flawless gut-punch, and I’m not sure I’ll ever fully recover.
Yearn No More, by TemenCMoth: Ongoing. This one is about Snufkin and Moomintroll coming to terms with their feelings for each other after… let’s call it an unwelcome intervention from a meddlesome traveler.
A Little Pocket of Snow, by Gemi: Complete. A short and sweet fic about the Joxter raising Snufkin and Moomin. Kinda hope the author does more with it.
Divulgence, by mousesprings: Ongoing. Moomintroll finds out that Snufkin is one of the Mymble’s children, and Snufkin tells the story of how he went from living with his mother and siblings as a young child, to wandering the world in solitude. I love this fic’s take on baby Snufkin.
But One Doesn’t Say It, by Bumblebeebats: Ongoing. A lovely mutual pining fic in which Snufkin is terrified of people finding out he has emotions, and Moomin trying to figure out when is the right time to hold hands (hint: it’s all the time).
the joxter never took anything seriously, by punkbean: Complete. A Joxter-centric fic leading up to the epilogue of The Exploits of Moominpappa. The Joxter finds out he has a son, pines over the years he lost, and finally gets to meet him. All in all it’s a sweet fic with a nice take on Joxter as someone with the potential to be a good parent, which is my favorite take on the Joxter, honestly.
Son of Snow, by RunRabbitRun: Complete. I can’t get enough of Joxter and Snufkin content, apparently. The Joxter is a winter fae, and Snufkin is a spring fae but doesn’t know it. They meet on a beach one day. It’s not terribly dramatic for most of it, but the character interaction alone is a lot of fun.
wildflowers, by carolinaa: Complete. Snufkin returns to Moominvalley to find that the Moomins aren’t there, and no one knows where they’ve gone. Perfect story for tugging your heartstrings before giving you a nice, emotionally cathartic end.
feet of clay, by Tyranno: Ongoing. This one’s a fun one. The Moomins are traveling in search of a new home, and eventually come upon a valley healing from a recent fire. Snufkin is the local god of the valley, who Moomintroll befriends as he and his parents make their home there.
Floodgates, by blossombell: Complete. Moomintroll realizes that he loves Snufkin in a way he can never love Snorkmaiden. A sweet story about Moomintroll valuing his friends’ feelings before learning to value his own.
Give Me a Reason, by VoidofRoses: Complete. Another fae!Snufkin fic! This time it’s the whole family: Joxter’s fae, Snufkin’s fae, Mymble’s fae, Little My’s fae, they’re all fae! Winter!Joxter finds out he has a son, and heads to Moominvalley to meet Spring!Snufkin.
Formal Affair, by busket: Complete. Ms. Fillyjonk derides Snufkin’s uncouth way of life, so he crashes her fancy-dress party to prove a point and also give Moomintroll a night to remember. There is nothing about this story I don’t love.
Winter, Come Spring, by Grimmseye: Complete. Moomintroll wakes up in the middle of winter to find the Joxter raiding their kitchen. Hilarity ensues.
Nearly Nowhere, by Qpenguin98: Complete. Obligatory Invisible Snufkin fic! But in all seriousness, this is a nice one. It starts off sad and ends sweet; what more could you ask for?
cottonmouth, by luftballons99: Complete. Moomintroll and Snufkin get baked.
Your Freedom Isn’t Free, by AgentZee: Complete. A young Snufkin discusses the nature of freedom with the Joxter. Short and sweet.
Delicate, by Pyrrhuloxiac: Complete. One of the first fanfics I ever read. Snufkin and Moomintroll discuss the language of flowers. I keep coming back to this one.
Enjoy! I’ll probably add more as I find them.

Folklore: The Leaf Lights
This is a lil piece of not very well known folklore that comes from a few places Maryland, Oregon, and Washington mostly.
The leaf lights have some mixed Folklore.
But the leaf lights are apparently autumn colored lights that come along only in November and October. Strange little lights that hide amoung in the leaves and guide people into pumpkin patches, corn fields, squash patches, tree groves, or deeper into the woods.
Many people describe encounters with the leaf lights or " leaf people " as as charming, non-threatening, and playful.
Some ideas of what they are:
1. they are orange, yellow and red willo-whisps.
2. Fall faeries
3. Magic made by the pumpkin people {a entity I'll explain in another post}
4. Leaf people aka far or entities having a connection with changing leaves.
5. Reflections of light on wet leaves.
Making little leaf or autumn themed lights to attract the leaf lights or "leaf people" is what some witches from mostly Maryland and Oregon do from what I've been told.
okay bUT HEAR ME OUT I COULD BE UR GOBLIM PARTNER AND YOU COULD BE MY VAMPIRE BOYF
So Arizona launched an “education hotline” that allows “concerned parents” to report “””critical race theory””” and other things like ~gender identity~ being taught in the classroom
It would be a shame if the number and email were spread to bad actors looking to prank call the AZ Department of Education

So you’re feeling a calling to Demeter? Maybe she keeps showing up in tarot readings, you keep feeling her energy, or you’re seeing her in your dreams? I’m making this because I have seen a lot of these types of posts but not as many for Demeter. I do understand she isn’t a highly worshiped goddess and with that being said, I never felt the need to make a long post, but lately I have been getting many asks on people who have been contacted her wondering how on earth they’re supposed to devote to her, how to worship, what she’s like and etc with a lack of info or help especially on this site! My patron means so much to me so if anyone is genuinely interested in working with her I’m going to help with the best of my ability. I’ve been working with the Demeter family (Demeter, Persephone, Arion, and Despoina) for a couple months now, so I have to say working with her as well as the ones closest to her have been the best experience of my entire life. part of me is making this for her as well. It’s also thanksgiving here in America so it’s the perfect time! Note that a lot of this information is from (theoi.com)
I also suggest the page: @demeterspriestess highly!! I have mentioned them in a post before but they have so many resources, facts and prayers that can help tremendously!
Demeter was the Greek goddess of the earth (Eurip. Bacch. 276), and more especially of the earth as producing fruit, and consequently of agriculture, whence human food or bread is called by Homer the gift of Demeter. She was worshipped especially by women. As the goddess of the earth she was like the other theoi chthonioi, a subterraneous divinity, who worked in the regions inaccessible to the rays of Helios. As agriculture is the basis of a well-regulated social condition, Demeter is represented also as the friend of peace and as a law-giving goddess. (thesmophoros, Callim. Hymn. in Cer. 138; Orph. Hymn. 39. 4; Virg. Aen. iv. 58; Hom. Il. v. 500; Ov. Met. v. 341; Paus. viii. 15. § 1.)
Demeter also presided over the Eleusinian Mysteries which promised the path to a blessed afterlife.
Demeter had numerous shrines throughout the ancient world, including regular temples and sanctuaries dedicated to her Mystery cult. The foremost of these were the celebrated Mysteries of Eleusis overseen by the Athenians.
Demeter was usually worshipped in conjunction with her daughter Kore-Persephone, goddess of spring growth and the underworld.
In classical sculpture she was depicted as a motherly woman holding a cornucopia (horn of plenty) brimming with fruit or a bouquet of grain-stalks, or fillets, and poppy flowers. (Source: theoi.com)
DEMO (Demô), a name of Demeter.
CARPO′PHORI (Karpophoroi), the fruitbearers, a surname of Demeter and Cora, under which they were worshipped at Tegea.
DEO (Dêô), another name for Demeter.
SITO (Sitô), a surname of Demeter, describing her as the giver of food or corn.
CALLIGENEIA (Kalligeneia), a surname of Demeter or of her nurse and companion, or of Gaea.
CHTHO′NIA (Chthonia), may mean the subterraucous, or the goddess of the earth, that is, the protectress of the fields, whence it is used as a surname of infernal divinities
ELEUSI′NA or ELEUSINIA (Eleusinia), a surname of Demeter and Persephone, derived from Eleusis in Attica
CHLOE (Chloê), the blooming, a surname of Demeter the protectress of the green fields, who had a sanctuary at Athens conjointly with Ge Curotrophos.
Serpents: this was sacred to her the most. They represented rebirth, nature and the fertility of the earth.
Dragons: as well as serpents, the dracones drove her chariot
Geckos: was a relative of the snake
Swine: pigs were traditionally sacrificed to Demeter to ensure fertility to the earth
