Why Bruce Wayne Is Autistic
i am 100% convinced this man is autistic. fight me. this post is specifically about battinson, but the other versions of batman also seem autistic to me (i am autistic myself so i should know). btw this is just my interpretation of what we saw of him in the movie, so sorry if any of this is wrong maybe i am just bad at analyzing stuff-
disclaimer: ignorant and ableist comments will be deleted
warnings : none
he is very soft spoken
monotone voice
eye contact seems difficult for him (either very intense or not at all)
"inappropriate" staring
his face doesn't show much emotion (but his eyes are so expressive)
seems socially awkward (same tbh lmao)
doesn't laugh at jokes (or doesn't understand them?)
doesn't reply to others sometimes (it could be that he's nonverbal occasionally or just needs more time to think of an answer)
needs to be reminded to take a shower or eat
sensitive to light (wears sunglasses indoors)
high pain tolerance
strong sense of justice
black and white thinking (thinking his dad was either a bad OR good person, viewing gordon as a good cop)
notices small details/patterns that others don't
special interest could be being batman and protecting gotham or building tools/upgrading the batmobile
hyper-empathy but can't really express it (example: for the mayor's son or selina)
prefers working alone
rejects social norms (doesn't really try to sound polite, immediately starts speaking to alfred when he woke up)
other people treat him like he's some fragile being or a child (many autistic people get treated like that, sadly). alfred did this but i know he only meant well (which makes sense since he practically raised him). falcone did it too but in a condescending way
also this doesn't have to do anything with battinson but look at this comic panel (from "batman the imposter") :

just gonna say it: i despise spongebob & patrick. the only character i have any sympathy for is squidward. at least plankton has some passion for his work, mr krabs is a dirty capitalist exploiter.Ā
One of the best explanations Iāve been able to come up with for why autism messes with your sleep schedule is that your brain prefers you to be awake when it is darker and more quieter out. A more nocturnal schedule has a lot of sensory benefits for autistic people:
Fewer people around, less noise
Less bright/glaring light
Generally a calmer environment
Which would work fine if we were living in a world where capitalism hadnāt made alternate sleep schedules so untenable because of āprofit.ā In a different society this sort of quality could be valued (āno I donāt mind tending the herd at night, you find it hard to stay awake but I find it peaceful,ā and so on). But not in this one. And thatās not a failing of biology, or neurology. Thatās a failure of society.Ā The fact that so many neurodivergent people struggle with keeping an 8 to 5 schedule is another symptom of intrusiveĀ capitalism microcontrolling our lives, not a personal āweaknessā or shortcoming.
Iāve noticed some common misassumptions about autistic people and verbality, so I thought Iād share some of my experiences!
If you meet me at a social occasion, I will be talkative and you will probably be surprised to know that some days I struggle with being verbal. Hereās what I might look like on a nonverbal/less verbal day
I can force myself to talk to people, but it will be draining. It may drain my energy, heighten my sensory issues, raise my stress levels, and in general lessen my wellbeing.
After a long conversation, I might need to rest/lie down.
I think of my nonverbal days as a battery recharging itself. You can still use the device, but that will just make it drain more quickly.
Not all conversations are created equal!!!!

given that Autistic & ADHD folks have always existedā¦.like the names we use are modern, meaning that most autistic/adhd people went undiagnosed their whole lives, but they still existedĀ and interactedĀ with peopleā¦ā¦..
my point is autistic/adhd traits have always existed under other names & thereforeĀ autistic/adhd characters have always existed whether their creators knew it or now
