The only acceptable trans Tim headcanon would be Tim introducing himself to the batfam as a boy from the get-go with such confidence that no one questions him. Then, his first solo case as Robin is investigating the disappearance of Jack and Janet Drake's "daughter," so he pretends to have a twin sister by forging a bunch of documents and photoshopping family pictures. He then fabricates evidence of her death, committing multiple crimes in the process, and holds a fake funeral at the end. Because if his previous name is dead to him, he's gonna kill it the Tim Drake way

What if Jason died, got resurrected, started his whole rampage as Red Hood, but ended up losing his memories? Maybe he hit his head too hard, or the lazarus pit finally screwed his brain over, or he just woke up one day unable to remember anything except his time with the league so he goes back and instead of turning him into a weapon Talia gives Jason a choice to live the normal life he deserves. And Jason chooses it, of course, he does. He leaves Gotham, enters a University, and pursues an English Degree.

Years later, when Jason is an English Professor or maybe a librarian, Bruce sees him.

And Jason looks alive. Real. Glowing. He still has a white tuft in his hair, he still has scars, he's unable to explain, but he looks happy in a way Bruce hadn't seen him since the first time he put on that Robin uniform.

Bruce doesn't force anything. He makes small talk but then, out of nowhere, he asks, with wet, sad eyes, "Are you happy?"

Jason stares. Blinks. And then smiles, "Of course." And it wrecks Bruce.

Because he knows, he knows Jason wouldn't have died if he never met him, he knows Jason wouldn't have come back as a monster, he wouldn't have been cut open and stitched back wrong.

He knows Jason would've been happier, but knowing it and seeing it breaks him differently.

Because now Bruce is wondering: Would all of them be happier if they never met him?

Clark sprawling over Bruce like a human weighted blanket, because at some point they realized that was the only thing that actually helped Bruce sleep through the night. It calms his nerves, slows his breathing, and keeps the nightmares at bay, but more than that, having the most powerful being right there, an unshakable barrier between his body and everything else, actually makes him feel safe.

I understand that the Red Robin run has us all in a chokehold, but I think we sometimes miss the forest for the trees. What makes it truly tragic isn't the fact that Tim is a really depressed and anxious person, but the opposite. Tim is a nerd who loves friendship and justice. He has tons of friends and contrasts a post-Jason Bruce who is withdrawn and depressed by being very outgoing and personable. That's his whole thing as a character, he exists to act as a liaison between Batman and the world.

When Red Robin starts, his father has just died, his best friend has just died, his girlfriend has just died, his mentor and some other friends have disappeared from the map, his older brother is juggling the Batman mantle and a poor ten yo Damian that has just lost his father. This is Tim at his worst mentally. He's a character built on interaction and he has no one to interact with. Add to it his canonical mental health issues, well the guy is going through it.

He pours his entire soul into the search for Bruce because he needs a fucking win. The man is spiraling the entire run. The true angst of Red Robin is not that he's a sad little mew mew, but that he isn't. We come to know him as this little guy who loves making friends and forcing Bruce to open up to others, and now we have to see him alone and desperate. He's very similar to Dick in that aspect, the drama hits you harder because you know how he is normally. And the parallels to Bruce at the start of his run as Robin are just brutal: someone wrecked by grief, alone, pouring all their energy and focus into work as an escape... And even in the middle of his crash out arc, he still ends up making friends. That's who Tim Drake is, and that's why he acts like that after losing so many people he holds dear.

Dick: Uh-- Bruce: Well-- Jason: What? What are we all talking about? Tim, appearing next to him: What is happening? Jason: They mentioned some Incident between us, I am trying to find which one Bruce, awkwardly: The Titan Tower one? Tim: Like, when Jason hacked all speakers here a week ago, and started streaming his Spotify playlist? I mean, it was kind of fun, why would I be mad at him about it? Jason: Wait, maybe they mean that one time, a few months ago, when we fought about who is the Player One and Two, when trying to play a game on the console? Tim: Worse things happened, though Dick, flabbergasted: ...We... we meant that one time. With slit throat, and stuff. You know. Jason and Tim: ... Tim: That snoozefest? Lol Jason: Jesus, that is the last thing we would think of, fr Tim: Jason fought like a pussy, anyway Jason: Oh, and you were better??? Dick and Bruce: ...What is wrong with you two?
