(In the Gryffindor’s Common Room)

Ron: *is standing in front of a wall covered with moving pictures of the exclusive pure-blood duels throughout Hogwarts* Hmmm…

Harry: *laying down on the couch, face down*

Hermione: *taking frantic notes as she sits on Harry’s back* Fascinating, I didn’t know Hogwarts had so many mock battles throughout the years!

Ron: *ominous* Not mocking. It was a duel to the death-

Harry: *let out a loud groan of dismay *

Ron: Of the person’s reputation all throughout- Are you okay Harry?

Gryffindors in the Room: *watches them warily*

Professor McGonagall: *chuckling, remembering Lily Evans doing the same thing in her fifth year as Sirius Black took notes before preparing to go off to war* Ah, this bring me back…

A 7th year: Professor?

McGonagall: I remember one Lily Potter, née Evans, doing exactly the same thing as Mr Ron Weasley before taking the Duel Tournament by storm. She would have won too…if Flitwick hadn’t join in the last minute. *sighs in disappointment* At least they tied.

Gryffindors: *remembers that Flitwick placed in 2nd in all of Europe in Dueling* Oh dear…

We all know the jokes about Zuko passing out from doing a good thing and of course it's been pointed out that it's literally a trauma response that happens both in the show when he's faced with doing something that goes against what his father told him was right, and in the comics when he is afraid he's becoming Ozai.

But what both of those scenes have in common is that it happens not just after Zuko is forced to make a conflicting decision that reminds him of the situation his father put him in when he was thirteen. It's also true that in both cases, he experiences a crash after he's safe and no longer in danger. That pretty closely mirrors the rush of adrenaline after a traumatic trigger, plus the sudden exhaustion once the danger has passed. After freeing Appa triggers that ptsd response in him in the show, Zuko passes out the moment he is safe in Iroh's house, because he knows that Iroh is a safe person that he can allow himself to be vulnerable with. Zuko does the same thing in The Promise when he passes out after Aang saves him from falling into the chasm and Zuko realizes he was right to try and protect the people of Yu Dao.

I think it's also worth noting that in both cases, experiencing conflict with someone who he saw as someone who both cared for him and as a moral authority is what caused the stress, but then being cared for by that person reassured him that it was safe to let that person take care of him.

It's not just being told that he did the right thing, but that he deserves care and that his life has value that makes Zuko feel like he's safe, after spending the series feeling like he had to prove his worth to Ozai and spending The Promise thinking that he didn't deserve to live.

Both cases make me wonder what it was like for thirteen year old Zuko waking up after the agni kai and finding out that not only is his father willing to hurt him, but also wants him sent away.

At some point, what I really want in BSD is for Atsushi to fight Chuuya. Like, idk the reason, maybe to settle an issue between the mafia and the agency, instead of a war they pick a fighter.

Atsushi just expects it to be Akutagawa, because that's who he's always fighting but then Chuuya shows up. Because he's the mafia's top fighter, of course they're gonna choose him. I want everyone worried over Atsushi, I want conflicted Dazai trying to stop it happening.

But the fight goes ahead. You can tell at first Chuuya is toying with Atsushi, testing the waters, trying to get him to take the fight seriously, because Atsushi has a habit of holding back. Chuuya gets what he wants, he says something that gets under Atsushi's skin, so the kid goes at him full force. Everyone's waiting to see a squashed tiger.

Except Atsushi used his claws. His claws that cut through any ability, including Chuuya's seemingly invincible shield of gravity. And Chuuya's stood there, with four deep gashes going from his shoulder, down and across his torso

And he's grinning like a mad man.

Because, finally, he's got a fight he as to try in, an opponent who not only can stand up to his ability but slice right through it. He's got to think, he's got to use his skills outside of his ability and Chuuya's ecstatic.

Chuuya still wins the fight, but that means the conflicts over now. So he holds out his hand and helps Atsushi up. He says he fought well, has a good teacher but he's got a long way to go. And to Atsushi's absolute horror, Chuuya gives him the highest praise he has, "Can't wait for the next one."

Now Atsushi has to deal with two mafia men regularly jumping out at him and demanding a fight. But where Akutagawa's demands sound like death threats, Chuuya's have the energy of a very excited dog trying to force you to play fetch with it.
