*cackles*

Bruce sat at his desk, his hands sternly folded in front of his face. Damian sat in the chair in front of him, staring defiantly.

“Damian… We need to talk about the kids. And the animals.”

Damian stuck his nose in the air arrogantly with the manner of a man who knew he could not lose. Normally an admirable feat against Bruce “Brucie” “Batman” Wayne, but this was Damian Wayne, formerly Al Ghul. What he wanted, he usually ended up getting—with or without permission.

“I don’t know what you're talking about, Father.”

Bruce stared at him, just a few degrees shy of his batglare. “Damian. In the past three months, you have acquired twenty-three toddlers, seventy two cats, fifty dogs, an uncountable number of fish, another cow, three deer, and a random assortment of other animals. Not only that, you adopted Colin, and gained partial guardianship over Jon.” Bruce started full on glaring. “I don't know how. I don't want to know—actually, I do, if only I can stop you from doing more. But that's not the point.” Bruce leaned forward, eyes narrowing. “No more. Send them back where they came from. They need to go. Now.”

Damian examined his fingernails delicately. “No.”

“Damian—”

Damian grinned evilly. Bruce tensed in anticipation as Damian opened his mouth and spoke in an overly loud and dramatic voice.

“BUT FATHER YOU CAN'T MAKE THEM LEAVE—”

Bruce's beautiful, original mahogany wood doors burst open, shattering against the walls.

“NO!”

It was the children. And the animals. God, so many animals. They were all screaming at him in their shrill little voices and all their noises like a demented chorus. Was this his punishment? He knew he wasn't the best father in the world, but surely he didn't deserve this?

“NO!”

“THAT'S OUR BABA!”

“WE WANNA STAY!”

“I WAN’ BABA!”

“Yeah Mr. Wayne,” a horrifyingly familiar voice said over the waves of small beings, quieting them to whimper and sobs, “Don't take us away from ‘Baba’.”

There, walking into his office with stupidly big devious grins on their faces—the exact same one as Damian’s, the little snots—were Colin and Jon, both clearly enjoying this entirely too much.

They walked up behind a smug Damian (who was drowning in cute animals and tiny orphan children—no! Stay strong Bruce!) and wrapped their arms around him, pouting.

“Gosh, Gramps,” Bruce felt a stab in the chest as Colin sniffed in mock distress, “I just got a big family, you can't take them from me now! Baba promised we'd all have a loving and comfortable life.”

“Yeah Grandpapa!” Jon pouted, his eyes tearing up in his deadliest puppy dog eyes. Bruce felt another stab in the chest. “I've got such a big family now, and I can't let my new siblings down now, you know? Baba promised we could all stay together!” All the children nodded along with him, eyes teary and noses sniffing with puppy eyes they clearly learned from Jon.

That little—

“Well Father?” Damian smirked. “You wouldn't make me a liar now, would you? Not to my precious family?”

Bruce had the sinking feeling that this would not be the last conversation about this. He also had the sneaking suspicion that he would win exactly none of them.

Bruce dropped his head in his hands and groaned.

God, what would he tell Clark?

headcanon

headcanon that Percy and Thalia have a super complicated handshake that they add onto every time they see each other no matter what, and the first time Thalia sees Percy after BoO she comes into camp and its all-

Thalia screaming running towards her cuz: PERCYYYYYYY

Percy, also screaming and running towards Thalia: THALIAAAAAAAAA

Thalia: Percy.

Percy: Thalia.

Thalia: Percy?

Percy: Thalia?

*they then proceed to do a ten-minute long handshake that includes four hip checks two different flip and one split from both of them at the same time*

Everyone: well that's not what I thought would happen.

Han is all “there’s to much Vader in him,” without mentioning that there is too much Vader in Leia too.

Like, Bail Organa, bless his poor poor soul, tried to politician the Vader out of her. He tried SO FUCKING HARD.

But the fact that she abandoned politics to be a General in the Resistance says a lot about her similarities to Anakin Skywalker.

Here’s a happier thought: in another world, things are different.

Darth Vader takes one look at this feral fierce daughter of queens and politicians, this girl lying silver-tongued and spiteful to his face and thinks oh. And a heartbeat later he thinks Padme because this child looks so much like her, down to the imperious jut of her chin. And she looks like a boy he knew once, a boy called Anakin Skywalker, who was reckless and absurd and so strong with the Force that the universe buckled around him.

He says, “You are adopted, aren’t you,” and Leia’s eyebrows skyrocket.

“What relevance does that have,” she manages, “Lord Vader,” and Lord Vader would smile if he could. Instead he reaches down to touch her beautiful face; she flinches away, shows her teeth, and he feels his heart full up to bursting point.

He says, “None at all.”

Alderaan does not burn. Tarkin does though. He falls in two neat, sizzling halves.

“Um,” says Leia. Vader’s lightsabre burns red in her eyes.

“I’m no friend of the Emperor,” says Vader, says Anakin. And, “I knew your mother.” And then, because he’s Anakin Skywalker and planning has never been one of his strong suits, he offers her his hand.

“Come with me.”

“Will Alderaan be safe? My parents?”

My parents. Not by blood, but by choice, and that matters more.

“I will protect them,” says Anakin.

I want us to talk more about the Percy Jackson that is the son of the Father of Monsters.

I want us to talk about Percy looking at his brother, Tyson, staring at his only eye, at the strength in his arms and the skin that doesn’t burn, and thinking this is my brother. This is my family. I’m not so different from him.

To talk about Percy who fought another brother inside the Labyrinth and saw skulls of victims killed in the name of Poseidon and listened to his father, this god who has birthed heroes and monsters and gods, tell him Percy was his favorite. Did he ever stay awake at night wondering what that meant?

Percy who can bring the ocean to wherever he is even in the driest desert. Percy who caused an earthquake by accident and ended up freeing a monster that gave even the gods nightmares. Percy who can breathe underwater and controls a sea that doesn’t like to be controlled and creates storms that could bring down ships and destroy lives. Percy who can control anything liquid. Percy who controlled poison and scared even Annabeth who knew him better than any other demigod, who had seen so many terrifying things. Percy who is still so very, very young.

I want to talk about Percy who is the son of the Father of Monsters and has to wonder where that leaves him.

Did he ever stare in the eyes of a monster trying to kill him and think, had things been just a little different I would have been your brother in more than name? Did he ever look at himself in the mirror and wonder if there were any other humans or demigods with that shade of green in their eyes? Does he ever lay at night and listen to Annabeth’s heartbeat and think, had things been different, had he not been raised by his mother, had he been just a little less human, had he not fallen in love, he would have been able to stop it as easily as he could stop the tide?

Let’s talk about Percy Jackson who is the son of the Father of Monsters and therefore that little less human than any other demigod he’s ever met.

Percy who might have stared at Frank and thought, I wonder if I could change my shape, too, if I weren’t so scared of what I might become. I wonder if I already did.

Percy Jackson, who saw himself reflected in the curses of the monsters he killed and thought, suffocating a goddess with her own poison: monsters and I, if we’re the same, then so be it.

Percy who looks like a greek god, who has an expression that makes it hard to be sure if he’s the good guy or not in the middle of a battle, who is a hero and a legend and still wakes up screaming most nights even in college.

Percy who bled red for his entire life but still flinches when he gets a papercut- will he bleed golden, this time, or will it look like sand?

Percy Jackson is the son of the Father of Monsters and his fear is very, very human, but he is not.

Captain Jack: I wasn’t going to mention it. But you look like her.

13th Doctor: I know. Sometimes when I catch my reflection, it takes my breath away.

Captain Jack: Even after all this time? She’s still in your heart.

13th Doctor: *smiles* I carry a lot of people in my heart Jack, and there will always been room for more. You understand.

Captain Jack: Yeah, I do. You carry them with you.

13th Doctor: Always.

If Humans Are A Disaster, Then We Are A Natural Disaster. Not Flawed Gods. Not Outsiders. Not Mythic

If humans are a disaster, then we are a natural disaster. Not flawed gods. Not outsiders. Not mythic figures. We are from the Earth and of the Earth. And yet we are not a wildfire. Not a flash flood. If we're a disaster, we're unique in one meaningful way. We can choose to change.
