So cool! An online alternative that gives back! Love the "boredom busters" section.
To my dismay, the nearest bookshop to my major metropolitan area is over 67 miles away?! Oh, the misplaced priorities!
In the book industry, Amazon is Goliath, the giant who overshadows everyone else. But there’s a new David on the scene, Bookshop.org.
It doesn’t expect to topple the giant, but it has launched a weapon that could make Amazon’s shadow a little smaller, and help local bookstores fight back.
Bookshop.org, a website that went live at the end of January and is still in beta mode, is designed to be an alternative to Amazon, and to generate income for independent bookstores. And, perhaps more importantly, it seeks to give book reviewers, bloggers and publications who rely on affiliate income from “Buy now” links to Amazon a different option.
Profit from books sold through Bookshop will be split three ways, with 10% of the sale price going into a pool that will be divided among participating bookstores, 10% going to the publication that triggered the sale by linking to Bookshop.org, and 10% going to Bookshop.org to support its operations.
What the Hell? This is so cool! Wish my physics teacher had done cool stuff like this
So, our physics teacher has the strange idea of motivating his students by letting each of us present a physical phenomenal we find interesting to our classmates in a 5-minutes-presentation. And now I need something that is interesting for everyone - even people that usually don't care for physics -, but has interesting facts for someone who's interested in it, too (preferably with an easy experiment). You don't happen to have any ideas, do you?
First of all, your professor is awesome for taking the time to do this. Of the top of my mind, the best one I have is Chladni figures.
Basically take a flat metal plate, fix it at the center and spray some fine sand particles on it.
Using a violin bow, gently excite any edge of the plate to magically witness these beautiful normal mode patterns ( known as Chladni patterns/figures ) forming on the plate.
Also notice that by pinching the plate at different points, the pattern obtained changes.
There is a whole lot of physics that goes behind such a simple phenomenon and I dare say we understand it completely. There are lots of questions on these figures that we have no answer for!
Hope this helps with your presentation. Have a good one!

How the frick do I block these lovely "followers"?
Why can't we block these lovely followers right from our own Activities screen? Why do I have to go to their page to block them?
No?
Are you listening now??

This is the best thing I've read all day!!
I used to feed the crows on campus every day because it was easier than making human friends (I had one already - and Robin likes crows as much as I do). Pretty soon, they figured out where I lived and would alight upon my dorm windowsill and watch me. I offered them only healthy things, like leftover fish, hard boiled eggs, nuts, suet, and dog food. They were already habituated to humans and had no fear of us, and I figured it was better to feed them real food instead of the french fries they’d get tossed.
It only got weird when people began to notice that crows would follow me to class. Two in particular would fly alongside me as I walked across campus, landing and cawing for treats and keeping pace with me. Sometimes people would try to scare them off and I’d have to explain that Heinrich and Fatima weren’t bad omens signaling my doom, just spoiled little brats.

Power Move is stepping from the back of the elevator, past everyone else, and pushing that <||> button to let that last person on
Hm a lot of you don't seem to know the difference between a "power move" and just being mean for no reason
