If Your Parents Weren't Religious Do You Think You'd Still Have Strong Faith?

If your parents weren't religious do you think you'd still have strong faith?

Of course not. Where, I ask you, would I have met Jesus in the first place, if not for my parents? Who knows, maybe He would have arranged a meeting for me at some point in my life. I hope that parallel-universe me would be sensible enough to open up to Him. I often wonder what I'd be like if I didn't know Jesus. I speculate sometimes that I'd be rather more promiscuous, with significantly lower self-esteem. I would most likely be a lover of alcohol. Beyond that, I have trouble figuring out what parts of me are me and what parts are Jesus. Would I have the same love and compassion for people? Would I have black and white views or would I be all grey areas? I don't know the answers to those questions. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't know Jesus. But I do know that I'm grateful I never will. I'm exceedingly thankful that I got that early introduction, cause my life with Jesus is frickin awesome! HahahaThanks for the question :)Peace and love! -Katherine

Happy Easter!

Just a quick post to remind you the whole reason behind the Easter story. I told it to a bunch of three-year-olds today, and I figure I should tell you too.  It's the same thing I've been preaching since the very beginning. It's really the ONLY thing that mattes. It's the very character of God. It's love. God knew that the curse of mortality we brought upon ourselves separated us from Him, and that broke His heart. So He devised a plan to bridge the gap between us and Him. That was Jesus. Jesus, the incarnation of God in fleshly form, came to earth and lived our miserable, wretched, human life, and then died the most inhumane death possible. Why? Because He loves us.  Oh, you guys, He loves us so much. His love for us is so inclusive, so unconditional, so vast, so immeasurable, so outrageous, so scandalous, that our minds could never fathom its incomprehensible depth. He loves us deeply, intimately, and personally. So much so that if you were the only person who had ever existed in the whole history of the entire world, He would have gone to the cross just the same, to save you.

And when they pounded the nails into His palms, as He grit his teeth in agony, and as even His own lungs became instruments of torture, His thoughts were not on Himself, but on you. As sweat drops of blood dripped down His face, He saw your addictions, your hurt, your self-loathing, your fears, your mistakes, and your regrets. He took it all upon Himself. So that you could be free from all that.

Because His heart aches for His children. He can't bear to see us along and hurting, cut off from the warmth and comfort of His embrace. He's been drawing us steadily back to Himself, ever since the day we ran away. Because He loves us. So, so, so much.  Like Lilly loved Harry.  Except, way, waaaayyyy more.  Happy Easter, guys. Remember how much you're loved. :) -Katherine

I know that you're pentecostal but how do you feel about other christian faiths such as anglicans, catholics, united etc. Are you friends with these people? how do you feel about their faith? would you marry one of these people?

There are probably thousands upon thousands of variations of the Christian faith. The way I see it, if you truly love and fear God, and are a devout Christ-follower who believes and obeys the teaching of the bible, it doesn’t matter whether you’re pentecostal, baptist, catholic, anglican, salvation army, united or non-denominational. Because truly devout christians look the same no matter what specific label they wear. I am absolutely friends with these people. I’m friends with non-christians, too haha :P I’ll pretty much be friends with anybody, you know, providing they’re not psychopathic or anything :P

How do I feel about their faith? Here’s the truth: there are an awful lot of fakers in every single denomination. There are loads of people who call themselves pentecostal but couldn’t really care less about God. The same is true for every other denomination; it comes with the territory. A person’s faith is between them and God.

Would I marry them? Ennh….my only stipulation on that topic is that I would prefer to marry a charismatic Christian simply because I think it’d be pretty freaky and kind of a turn-off if your spouse suddenly started speaking what can only be described as gibberish, and you know nothing about it. And because I’m pentecostal, and we are very passionate about speaking in tongues, it’d probably be less scarring for everyone involved if I just married a pentecostal, or whatever the equivalent is in places that are not Newfoundland, Canada.

Thanks for the question! Peace and love! -Katherine

I’m not going to let this make me give up. It’s disheartening, and today I will wallow, probably tomorrow too

I will continue to do my part in my community to spread the activism and promote change for the world I want to live in. I want to change the world AND help with the dishes.
