I don't think it would have worked with Luna because he's mentally stable
plus, he doesn't care about the cold, so he wouldn't have fallen into a semi-comatose state and seen the "predecessors"

Theia’s arc would make much more sense if Luna was in Earth’s place
I cannot be the only one who thought this as I watched today’s episode…

You won't believe how friggin happy I am that we got confirmation that Proto and Earth are indeed different characters and Earth was also created in the collision, thus I can argue this makes him and Luna canonical brothers.

Genuinely don't know what to call the Earth and Luna's relationship. Luna and Earth were formed from that collision between Theia and Proto but they're not Proto or Theia. However, the Earth is still considered Proto in a way. The reason Theia is never brought up in front of Earth is unknown but Venus said that there's still some of Theia inside of Earth. So, indications suggest that Theia is part of Earth as well. The collision had merged two planets into the Earth and moon, which has been repeated in various ways in the series and on Theia's Card. Theia and Proto are not parents based on the assertive "not at all" response when asked if a collision is like having babies. If a collision resulted in children of the previous planets, then that would make Pluto and Charon's relationship very awkward. I can confidently say that they do not have a parent or child relationship in any direction; well, Luna does kinda act like a mom sometimes but I digress. Earth isn't Luna's dad/mom and Theia and Proto aren't Earth and Luna's parents. That would be very weird because then Earth would be his own mom and dad, also his own child, but his brother is also his mom and dad- you see the problem. Whatever Earth and Luna's relationship is, it's ambiguous for a reason. I've been addressing Luna and Earth’s relationship in the way they interpret it, which is a friendship. But even that's a stretch due to the relationship's codependency making it look more like a messy partnership. Doesn't help that despite Luna being very close to Earth, Mars is considered Earth’s best friend. That whole situation just shows how much Earth values his friendship with the planets over his moon. Earth and Luna's dynamic is odd, especially in comparison to the other planets and moons, it's like the roles are flipped for them. As for my take on their relationship, it's still processing.
I figured back in October that if I could figure out how Earth and Luna's relationship got the way it did, it would answer how the solar system hierarchy was implemented. Everything seemed to draw back to them and I didn't know why. But all I got from them is Earth has abandonment issues and is extremely attached to Luna. While Luna feels like his existence doesn't matter to the planets and he is an Earth apologist. Their quarrel with each other stems from the fear and insecurity that the other one doesn't need or want them around. I am still not close to a reasonable answer about how they got this way. I would've said they got this way due to how they were raised but Earth said he's always wanted life and doesn't know why. The possibility that the Earth and Moon inherited these behaviors and goals from their past lives makes it difficult to pinpoint the origin of their dynamic. I've gone crazy over this. I have my suspicions, theories, and hypotheses but nothing solid. That is it for this rant, thought I'd share my frustrations.
Some fans: "Oh, we don't have any confirmation that Proto and Earth are different characters!"
What do y'all think Theia meant when she outright told Earth that the story is of his creation? Or whenever Theia and Proto talk about what happened they both use "our, us" pronouns, meaning they both shared the same fate?
Honestly, this has to be confirmation that Proto and Earth are indeed separate characters. For those not in the know, it's been a long running debate in parts of the fandom about whether or not Proto and Earth are the same or their own different characters.
But this new episode not only has both of them show up, but Theia outright tells our Earth that his "essence" (which I believe means his core) belonged to the both of them and the last line of the episode is literally, "This is the story of your creation," to Earth.
I always head canon Earth 🌎 to be a separate being from Proto and I am gonna assume I am right, since we got to see Proto.
I know their styles kinda makes them look the same but he really does look like his daddy which makes me hypothesis that Earth took more after Proto and Luna took more after Theia
I wanna wait to see what their personalities are going to be to see if this is true. Especially since I wanna see how Luna and Earths relationship parallels Theia and Proto’s
Was Theia more responsible of the two like Luna? Or did Earth get more of her personality and characteristics

My personal issue with Mars's character isn't how pretentious he is... but how BORING he is! Like I'm not exaggerating here, I'm one of the folks who's trying to keep the Solarballs TvTropes page up to date and looking nice. So one time I updated the rocky planets character pages because before I fixed it up they each only had four tropes.
Mars... was the hardest to update! Like, I could barely find any tropes that pertain to his character! He's just so flat and uninteresting to me. I had an easier time with Mercury, and at the time I despised his character for that "stunt" comment.

My main issue with Mars is, yes, he's pretentious. He has a jokey and lax tone, yet whatever he says, has this double meaning. An example of this is in "Is Earth Special?" Mars is giving Earth the silent treatment after what Earth said about moons. That seemed to be a responsible response to Earth’s behavior, though listening closely to what Mars said has other implications. Mars rhetorically asks if Earth thinks he's better than the moons, but before Earth can respond, he asks if he thinks he is better than the rest of them. Mars had broadened the question to include the whole solar system when the ones who were hurt were specifically the moons in that scenario. Then, when Earth answered genuinely, Mars and Luna talked over each other, but it could be heard what Mars said. "... All you had to say was no. Is that so hard?" my thoughts on that was Earth wasn't going to lie about his success in sustaining life because it's probably the only thing he's been praised for, but also because Earth doesn't hide his feelings well. So yes it would be hard for Earth to say that he didn't think he was better than everyone because he doesn't have that filter. Mars, on the other hand, does.
When Mars asked Earth if he thought he was better than all of them, I thought Mars mistook the significance of Earth’s offensive comment. The moons are clearly supposed to represent the marginalized of the solar system, or else saying "moon should know the place" would have less of an impact. So Mars is saying, "... You probably think you're better than the rest of us?" he took Earth’s insult personally and, generalized himself in the problem. Turning the issue to somehow include him, which, in a way, makes him kinda selfish because he's not a moon. As a matter of fact, when he's addressed with the Moon's problems like Luna asking Mars to help him save Astrodude, he rejects him. He is also not a very attentive planet to his very tiny moons. He claims that he was willing to listen to Ganymede and Europa's problems. Then when they said their plans, instead of trying to talk them out of killing Earth like the reasonable character he tries to present himself, he became defensive. Mars was upset on behalf of the moons after what Earth said but he's no better than Earth. It's worse because Mars is hiding his superiority under this facade.
Overall, Mars is probably just as self-centered, egotistical, and arrogant as Earth. The difference is Mars is hiding this side of him with a self-righteous and know-it-all attitude.
Sorry for not responding sooner but writing about Mars bores me.

Hot take (apparently) is you don't need the ship to be canon to enjoy them. I never want any of my ship to be canon, they'll butcher my beloved into grave. Shipping is a fandom thing to do, canon never matters.

This is roughly how I see the dynamics of Theia and Proto's relationship
Тейя? Theia?
