My personal issue with Mars's character isn't how pretentious he is... but how BORING he is! Like I'm not exaggerating here, I'm one of the folks who's trying to keep the Solarballs TvTropes page up to date and looking nice. So one time I updated the rocky planets character pages because before I fixed it up they each only had four tropes.
Mars... was the hardest to update! Like, I could barely find any tropes that pertain to his character! He's just so flat and uninteresting to me. I had an easier time with Mercury, and at the time I despised his character for that "stunt" comment.

My main issue with Mars is, yes, he's pretentious. He has a jokey and lax tone, yet whatever he says, has this double meaning. An example of this is in "Is Earth Special?" Mars is giving Earth the silent treatment after what Earth said about moons. That seemed to be a responsible response to Earth’s behavior, though listening closely to what Mars said has other implications. Mars rhetorically asks if Earth thinks he's better than the moons, but before Earth can respond, he asks if he thinks he is better than the rest of them. Mars had broadened the question to include the whole solar system when the ones who were hurt were specifically the moons in that scenario. Then, when Earth answered genuinely, Mars and Luna talked over each other, but it could be heard what Mars said. "... All you had to say was no. Is that so hard?" my thoughts on that was Earth wasn't going to lie about his success in sustaining life because it's probably the only thing he's been praised for, but also because Earth doesn't hide his feelings well. So yes it would be hard for Earth to say that he didn't think he was better than everyone because he doesn't have that filter. Mars, on the other hand, does.
When Mars asked Earth if he thought he was better than all of them, I thought Mars mistook the significance of Earth’s offensive comment. The moons are clearly supposed to represent the marginalized of the solar system, or else saying "moon should know the place" would have less of an impact. So Mars is saying, "... You probably think you're better than the rest of us?" he took Earth’s insult personally and, generalized himself in the problem. Turning the issue to somehow include him, which, in a way, makes him kinda selfish because he's not a moon. As a matter of fact, when he's addressed with the Moon's problems like Luna asking Mars to help him save Astrodude, he rejects him. He is also not a very attentive planet to his very tiny moons. He claims that he was willing to listen to Ganymede and Europa's problems. Then when they said their plans, instead of trying to talk them out of killing Earth like the reasonable character he tries to present himself, he became defensive. Mars was upset on behalf of the moons after what Earth said but he's no better than Earth. It's worse because Mars is hiding his superiority under this facade.
Overall, Mars is probably just as self-centered, egotistical, and arrogant as Earth. The difference is Mars is hiding this side of him with a self-righteous and know-it-all attitude.
Sorry for not responding sooner but writing about Mars bores me.
Holy crap I actually participated in an art event?!?
Alts under cut c:
OK so, the new episode came out today and all sorts of things were happening like the dwarf planets FINALLY getting some more screen time and Uranus / Caelus leaving the solarsystem but that's not what I'll be focusing on here. TO BE HONIST what I'm focusing on is very small and short compared to the rest of the episode (ligit it was only a sentence) but I believe it'll have big impacts for the future Theia and Gaia / Proto-earth arc.
In the new episode, while earth is leaving (to go ask Jupiter about Theia?? I think?) Venus says something along the lines of "You're still in there, Theia" Wich got me thinking. Now, I have two possible paths that I think the Solarballs writers could take with one being more likely than the other but the second I believe would be interesting / unexpected if they take that route. OK ENOUGH EXPLAINING LETS GET TO THE THEORIES.
In this theory, basically, Theia and Gaia/Proto-Earth's minds and personalities merged into one during the collision and Luna and DSOTM are completely new entities and Venus was a little surprised to see Theia's part of the mind fronting more (I say fronting but I don't really mean it in a separate personalities way...more like sertain aspects of her personality show more than Earths or Gaias/Proto-Earths unique personalities). While I think this one is boring I think this one is the one the team is more likely to go with / make something similar to.
Now this one is a bit of a stretch but what if Earth was actualy Theia? In that brief little flash back in the Jupiter is Back arc where Theia and Gaia / Proto-Earth are seen talking to eachother abt asteroids (if you want an exact quote I made art of this here) and Theia brought up the idea of carrying life. Originally, before the newest episode in the Jupiter is Back arc, I thought this could be the reason why Gaia/Proto-Earth, after loosing his memories, would want life because that was what Theia wanted but what if it was Theia fulfilling her own dream of getting life?? while the latter could still be possible I think it would be interesting if solarballs took it in that direction. Now you may be asking (but you probably aren't) "what about Gaia / Proto-Earth?" well what if he became DSOTM? in the same little flashback we can also hear Gaia / Proto-Earth talking to eachother and Idk if its just me but Gaia / Proto-Earth's voices sound very similar to DSOTM's voice? This could be a coinsidince of having the same or a similar sounding voice actor but to be honest I'd kind of be disappointed if it was just that.
But unfortunately there is a problem with this, How would Venus know that Theia was Earth instead of Gaia / Proto-earth since he was much bigger than Theia. Maybe he can just tell by personality but that seems kind of weird?
Idk. If you want you can reblog or comment what you think! this is my first solarballs theory post I think (IK I REBLOGGED ANOTHER THEORY W/ MY OWN THEORY BUT THAT DON"T COUNT) and I hope y'all enjoyed n sorry for my poor spelling lmao :)
live footage of me opening the solarballs ao3 tag for the five hundredth time in one day despite knowing there won't be anything i havent already read
Тейя? Theia?
Earth thinks to ask the sun about theia and after studdorn pushing he explains that she was the planet who collided with proto, another planet, which made earth and moon.
same energy🤩
Probably my last post on this acct
Enjoy SB fandom <3

The Moon Revolution was Petty, but had a reason.; Analysis Remake. A remake
Point 1 The life on Earth Is conscious and intelligent, but.. Although the life on Earth Is consicious and Intelligent, I don't think the moons understood that fully. They understood genocide, yes, but they don't understand just how important and sentient Earth's life Is. In their eyes, humans on Earth Is the same as bacteria. The moons didn't realize the weight of their actions, because their vision Is incredibely flawed regarding life itself. This could be because they don't see the true value of humans and don't understand it. This Is 100% because they've never SEEN a human before(expect Titan, and even then, he doesn't understand all that much.) and so, they don't get that humans have the same level of sentience that they have. Let's put it this way. You are being constanstly disrespected by someone that you can't take any action against. So, you decide to take it out on beings smaller than you. This is basically what the Moon Revolution Is. For them, killing humans Is the same as stepping on an ant. ''It's just another bug, It won't make a difference'', this is the way they think of humans. Now, let's say that In your mind, destroying an ant infestation will help you gain the respect of someone. That's what they thought. By getting rid of the ''ant infestation''(humans), they would get the respect of the 'owner of the house'(planets) because they would be seen as 'strong'. The moons were basically thinking this way. For them, killing 'ants'(humans) would be the only way to gain respect, because it would show that they are strong and not inferior. This way of thinking Is extremely flawed, especially since the 'ants' are completely harmless and doing nothing to them. But.. Point 2
Can you really blame them? I do not blame the moons for thinking this way. As I stated In my previous point, they've never seen a human, interacted with a human, and never have they had life themselves. In the end, they were just trying to gain respect. They were just trying to be seen as equal. This was a wrong way to do it, though. But It's not like they don't see that. Ganymede has admitted multiple times before that he thinks that the MR was wrong, but he's seeing it In what Is only ONE of the reasons. He's seeing it as 'wrong' because It affected the Solar System, which Is not necessarily a bad thing, just that It's WAY more than that. It didn't just affect the Solar System, If the plan had gone through, the effects and consequences would have been WAY, WAY, more. Ganymede Is trying to own it up for his mistakes, but he's seeing it as wrong for only one reason; not the many it has. The moons are thinking the MR was wrong In both the right and the wrong way. If they see it as only the consequences that HAPPEND, and not the consequences that COULD have happend, then It's a 50/50 on both right and wrong.
Point 3
Logic and reasons. The idea itself did not make sense, but we have to consider that it was an act of pure desperation coming from the moons. They were most likely being disrespected for years now, and although It wasn't logical, It was a rushed plan because they've had enough. In the end, the moons were just trying to make a difference. Even if the planets did not mean to kill their moons, It doesn't undermine the amount of disrespect that the moons have suffered. Even if it wasn't on purpose, it still made them feel undermined, disrespected, and forgotten. The moons were simply trying to try and change things. It was not a choice to make, especially since Earth's line was basically the last straw. For the moons, It truly showed how much the planets 'disliked' them and how much of an 'afterthought' they are. Uranus' ''joke'' sealed It even more. The moons simply wanted atleast a little of respect coming from their parent planets. In the end, the moons weren't trying to be evil on purpose. In their eyes, it was right.
