Well, howdy! I just wanted to take a moment to introduce my new podcast Dead West! It is a horror audio fiction series that blends folk horror and weird western themes in a re-imagined American Gilded age. A time when everything was stolen, blood was let, and society grappled with modernity.
Our show follows Conrad, a self proclaimed Sin Eater, as he travels around Western America and deals with the horrors of humanity and the things that stalk them in the dark.
This audio drama will be faithful adaptation of the true American West, including voices that were normally silenced due to the racists, sexist, and xenophobic nature of the American People. The Show features a full cast to guide you through this valley of death and sound design to let the monsters into your ears. Content warnings will be present in the show notes, where needed. Transcriptions coming soon.

A timely quote.
Dutch was many things, but at the end of the day he was a Dreamer.
RDR2 informs a lot for the show and if you ever want a peak into the creative process of the podcast know that most episodes of DW come with a few hours of riding around in RDR2.
Alive and thriving! Some recommendations but know there are dozens if not hundreds of amazing shows being produced TODAY. It is a great time to dive in and find a new favorite and follow along. Hi Nay: Supernatural horror fiction podcast with a Filipina protagonist and Filipino supernatural elements. It has multiple BIPOC LGBTQ+ characters, and primarily takes place in Toronto
The Grotto: a liminal horror podcast with original music and a full cast that explores the thin line between grief, pain, mourning, and loss. Follow Matt who turns to spelunking for solace. As Matt battles grief, he questions if the caves are playing tricks or if something else lurks within Re:Dracula: takes the famous horror tale, breaks it up chronologically (every entry of this epistolary novel has a date), and sends the story directly to your podcatcher as it happens. Every time something happens to the characters, Re: Dracula will publish an episode, in real time. Some entries will be brief, and others will be long and intense.
Silt Verses: In this horror/fantasy serial drama, Carpenter and Faulkner, two worshippers of an outlawed god, travel up the length of their deity’s great black river, searching for holy revelations. Dead West (self promo): a horror fiction podcast that blends folk horror and weird western themes told in a re-imagined American Wild West. Follow Conrad as he sheds light on the creatures that lurk in the shadows.
Malevolent: Arkham Private Investigator Arthur Lester wakes up with no memory of who he is or what has happened, only a nameless, eerie voice guiding him through the darkness.
Are audio drama podcasts, horror podcasts, etc still in vogue?
I remember them being everywhere in college, TBT, Tannis, Limetown, White Vault, King Falls, Bright Sessions etc but i feel like, at least in my friend group, there's been no discussion of anything new in years.
DOOOOO IT! If you need help, resources, VO/VA, whatever feel free to reach out. The creator community is lovely and super supportive.
I want to create an audio drama so badly. It would be a dream come true. Either create one or at least help in creating one in some way. It's honestly hilarious how often the "Audio drama fan to audio drama creator" pipeline occurs. I wish I could join
Dead West Visual Trailer
So, I make little trailers like this for projects I do as sort of a moving mood board. Something about them scratches an itch in my brain. So here is the one I did for DW the moment I heard the final version of the Theme Music from Sage. I still get chills when I get to drop that glorious piece of art into each episode of the show. You know what? I should do some of these for funsies for other shows too! Hmmmm. Who to unabashedly show some love to first?
Please put some eyes on this and spread it as wide as you can.
Our composer for Re: Dracula, Travis Reeves, is currently fighting aggressive brain cancer. If you have some spare funds to send his way for treatment, please do.
From his aunt: "It appears Travis' best option is to explore cutting edge treatments in specialty facilities for which healthcare coverage doesn't apply. We're racing to raise as much funds as possible to ensure all option doors can be opened."
I just wanted to tell you I started your podcast and I’m nervous to review but I wanted to tell you I absolutely adore your intro and outro it’s literally so catchy! Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us! I’m hoping to catch up tonight (and I can do that because my college semester is done today) also hello to a fellow historian! : ) (I myself am studying World History particularly Middle Eastern history with an interest in Sumerian culture and History) okay enough of my rambling now keep up the amazing work! You are all so talented!
I appreciate your kind words! I hope the semester treated you well and that you have a great break! Fun fact, the Sumerian cuneform was actually the language I was going to reference in the show before going with Rongo Rongo. But they are a fascinating folk to be studying, I hope you love it. The intro/outro is by the AMAZING Sage G.C btw! They run some of their own podcasts as well, more TTRPG Actual Plays but the team is great and Sage is a GOD when it comes to sound design. You should check them out if that is your vibe, 20SidedStories.
Wait I'm so sorry I hope this doesnt come off as insensitive or intrusive or anything but why is ur podcast getting review bombed?? And how can we help other than rating it higher
Hey hey no worries, I appreciate you asking. To boil it down, there is preexisting drama in the AD space between some folks that I was unaware of and caught strays from. I had a guest spot on Person A's podcast and Person B reaaaaaallly doesn't like Person A. To the point that they are making burner accounts and rating bombing anyone attached to Person A's podcasts (any of them). I guess it is a common practice by Person B and it has heavily impacted more than a dozen shows at this point. All I can assume is that is has nothing to do with the art or execution of my show itself as response to my show so far outside of this has been good and allowed me to improve the show as it has gone on. If there was a legit concern with my show then it is considered and changes are implemented as needed. The best thing folks can do is to listen to the show, give honest feedback via comments/reviews, and to rate the show where they feel it deserves. If that is 3 stars, so be it. At least follow it up with actual feedback.
