it was the perfect night to be at club divine. between the place being packed out and the guest dj this had been one of the best nights in a while. salem met up with a couple of people at the club in vip and did some mingling amongst the busy crowd once she got bored of that. moving her way through the dance floor to the bar was a mission in itself, one too many drinks starting to get the best of her. a sigh of relief fell from her lips when she finally made it through. as salem waited patiently for the bartender to get to her the stranger a couple feet away caught her attention. "rum and coke please?" she said loudly over the blaring music while moving closer to the other. god knows she didn't need another drink but she was determined to let loose tonight. the face wasn't a familiar one and salem wondered if he was new to the area. it was a hard for her to believe she'd been here as long as she had been. "pretty good actually, i met up with a bunch of people here and they ended up meeting with other people so i guess you can say they kinda ditched me in a sense. or maybe i ditched them." she paused for a moment upon realizing she was rambling to a complete stranger. "but what about yours? are you here alone?"

The entire plan of moving him early to Chile had been his father’s and for once in his entire life Gael could not have agreed more. The moment he found out how far from home he’s be hr jumped at the opportunity. Went as far as looking into hotels and car dealerships himself to get everything situated before making the move. He didn’t pack his own clothing, or move it himself but that’s what employees were for. After years and years of doing shit himself he was more than happy to pass the boring stuff off to someone else. He was doing them a favor if he really thought about it, it wasn’t like their pay wouldn’t show out a smile on their face in the end.
He had originally wanted to reserve the VIP room but figured perhaps if he met a group of interesting enough people to take back there then he’d go for it. For the time being he enjoyed all that the club had to offer from the bar. The night was still young, and he had heard of some great amenities about that particular place.
Gael found himself moving between the dance floor and the bar, having one of the best night’s he’s had in a long time. No work to stress over for months to come, no sister, and most important no father to ruin his mood. “Can I get an amaretto sour.” He called out to the bartender as he reached the bar then glanced to the side at the person sitting, “And whatever they’re having. On me.” Gael turned his body towards the crowd and rested his back against the bar. “How’s your night coming along?”
salem didn't intend on stealing rohan's cat, technically, but when she came across the cute orange creature she assumed it was a stray and had the bright idea to bring home a friend for stevie. her brain was buzzing with ideas for how the two cats could play and the matching outfits she'd already been plotting on putting them in. secretly she was hoping no one would come looking for it but after some back and forth in the group chat salem realized she did in fact already have a home. the owner in question though was unfortunately it was rohan.
"actually, it's me being a good cat mom and it's you being a horrible cat dad by letting her roam so far i was able to snatch her up. you couldn't pull yourself away from the ocean for two seconds to check on her? truthfully i think she’d be better off with me." salem replied sarcastically as the two sat on her couch observing the napping cats. "you know, if i didn't believe in karma i would have stayed silent in the groupchat but i'd be inconsolable if my cat, stevie which is her name by the way, went missing and i couldn't find her."

-ˋˏ ꒰ 🐚 ꒱ ── boat cat does look comfortable, curled up in the basket, sleeping next to the second cat, the black one, exactly like the picture. it's a fact rohan can't deny. he never worried that she was in the wrong hands, really the cat has always come and gone as she wanted, but he did have a lot of questions that were left unanswered : how'd she get here ? where did salem come across her ? did she know anything else about this little orange cats other alter egos ?
" so is this like. . . some kind of messed up cat psychological experiment thing ? " he asks her dubiously, " you just go out onto the street looking for other unsuspecting cats and then play matchmaker ? bring them home, set them up. . . " he gestures vaguely towards the napping cats with his hand. that's a weird hobby, he thinks, ever-curious to see just how the tabby ended up in this most recent situation. " hope they live happily ever after ? " he points to the second cat, the culprit in question, " can i least know their name or is that an impolite thing to ask ? "
salem shook her head in disagreement at mallory's statement. "you're the furthest from either of those things." she said with a smile as the other sat from across her. she was typically pretty understanding when it came to the people in her life being busy and knew if she really needed to speak to someone mallory would be there in a heartbeat. truthfully salem had just been closed off from everyone around her recently. "please don't apologize, seriously." placing her hand over mallory's for a second to reassure her everything was okay. "honestly? i've been in my own little bubble with stevie just writing music and reflecting the disaster that was my relationship." salem said with a chuckle at the last part. "but i really am okay. how are you doing? please catch me up on everything."
"I'm a shit person and an even shittier friend," Mallory said as she approached Salem. There were only a handful of people in Valparaíso she truly cared about, and Salem was definitely one of them, along with Esme, Al, Drew, and occasionally Enzo. Mallory felt a pang of guilt as she looked at Salem, realizing how much she had missed her friend's company. It weighed heavily on her conscience that she hadn't been there when Salem needed her, especially considering their long history together. "I'm sorry, Salem, baby," The blonde pouted as she pulled out the seat across from her and sat down. "I should have reached out sooner. I've been caught up in my own world and didn't even bother checking up on you." She paused, her expression softening with sincerity. "But I'm here now, how can I make it up to you?"
the last couple of hours between the two had been spent sharing laughter and chaotically figuring out hair and makeup options. salem hadn't been out partying since becoming newly single. going to club divine with leia was the perfect remedy for getting back into the swing of normalcy. after going through what seemed like every outfit in her closet she finally settled on a dress she'd come across at secondhand style. it was just short enough to make her feel good about herself without feeling like she was doing too much. she looked over at leia and have her a reassuring nod. "you look amazing! i don't think it's too much. plus blush tends to disappear after like an hour anyways." she said with an enthusiastic grin. "but you should do a little extra highlight." salem added a final touch of lipgloss and turned to the other. "we're definitely going to be the cutest duo. we need to take lots of pictures tonight too. we look to way too good to not be seen online."

⠀⠀⠀⠀it was finally the weekend , and leia and salem had agreed to head over to club divine to enjoy a much - needed night to let loose . she had made her way over to salem's about two hours ago and they were still getting ready , as leia was not one to be satisfied with her outfit until it was perfect . the girls were yapping about anything and everything that came to mind , salem's spotify playing on shuffle in the background for the perfect getting ready vibe . ❝ does this look okay ? not too much ? ❞ she asked , as if she wasn't still blending more blush on her face . ❝ maybe it'll look okay in the low - light indoors . . . ❞ she muttered , finally putting the brush down . her eyes moved over to the other , her gaze admiring how pretty salem looked . ❝ i think we're gonna be the cutest duo there tonight . ❞
a smile stretched across salems lips as luna sat down. it had seemed like forever since the two last saw one another. she quickly moved her coffee and journal aside to give the other space at the table. before even having a moment to respond luna was yanking their boots off and all salem could do was laugh and glance around the small cafe to see if anyone else had noticed. she loved that luna was random like that. "okay there's not way you haven't broken those boots in yet?" she said with a grin before closing the journal in front of her to give luna her undivided attention. "nope it's fine! plus even if you did i'd just dedicate the page to you and turn it into a happy little memory or something." she sipped on her coffee while leaning back in her chair. "i'm actually gald i ran into you, i think the universe knew that i needed to see someone that i loved. not to be dramatic but i just realized how much i've missed you." salem let out a small chuckle. it was probably a bit dramatic but it was genuine.
naturally more of a recluse, luna hated the days she designated for being outside. she was someone who much preferred the comfort of their tarantulas, their cat, their candles, their books, and ( most importantly ) their bed. they usually tried to knock everything out in one day which meant that day had already been piled high with multiple things: office hours with at least two of her professors ( but with the way luna yapped it ended up being four ), a studio session, grocery shopping ( for their apartment but also for drew and rafas ), a library date to check in all their old books and check out new ones, and a trip to casablanca to interview more locals on the folklore they needed for their thesis. she nearly fell into blooms & coffee, looking a little worse for wear, when salem appeared like a beacon of light. they flopped down in the chair across from her, their backpack too heavy, arms nearly falling off from the weight of the books they carried, and her boots untied and numbing their feet the longer she stood. the relief was enough to make them laugh. " do you think anyone would judge me too much if i take my boots off right now ? ⸻ fuck it. " they sighed, yanking the platform boots off her feet. " i dress like i'm not dependent on my feet to get me everywhere, this is ridiculous. i didn’t mess up your journal did i ? " the worry struck quick as she pulled her books toward her side of the table.

"it sounds good in theory but..." pausing for a moment she took a bite of her fourth churro of the day (so far). "lets say hypothetically we do break into the isidora facility tonight...are you even sure it's haunted? if i'm gonna potentially get a breaking and entering charge in a completely different country it's gotta be worth it." salem said to matty. she wasn't opposed to ghost hunting but she was a bit skeptical about the whole process. "also, wouldn't streaming it kind of incriminate us?"
"well if it's through a rescue then i think it'll be okay! maybe i can make a donation somewhere?" salem said as she gently rubbed behind the ears of a smaller black cat that resembled stevie. she wondered if there was a local animal shelter she could bring supplies to or donate some money to. "see, when i got stevie i adopted her from a shelter as a kitten. i almost ended up taking her and all her siblings but i knew it would be too much." which if you asked salem was probably the best day of her life (hopefully) winning a grammy one day would come second to that though. "so i'd much rather adopt or pick up a stray kinda like boat cat." pausing for a moment, "even though i technically stole her too, but we have a custody thing worked out. wait--how many cats do you think is too many cats? would three make me seem a little crazy?" chuckling at the last part before focusing her attention on an older grey cat wylie pointed out. "he does seem chill. i wouldn't mind an older cat actually they're usually more relaxed. stevie is still so active so maybe he could mellow her out a bit."
"i think so?" wylie never had a pet before jinxx meowsoon - certainly not during their childhood; they took up too much time, according to their mom. and while dogs seemed like - a lot to handle - wylie could do a cat. jinxx mostly just knocked shit over, played with stray feathers, and slept in a sprawled position. he knelt against the ground, scratching behind the ear of an older, scraggily black cat with patches of sparse fur, "like, i think it's like, um - like through a rescue, maybe? so the cats like, get awareness brought to them and then, like - patrons can adopt a cat if they're like - vibing with it? they do it in the states in some places, don't they? i mean, it'd be nice, i think, too - to like, adopt a cat cafe cat. strays are cool, though! my cat's a stray, but like - going through a rescue is good, too. as long as you're like, not paying a buncha money for like - a purebred cat, because i don't know if that's like - the most ethical? i don't know, i know for dogs it's like, really iffy. and i feel bad for the cats with the like, pushed in noses -" they paused - acutely aware of their tendency to ramble on, and the fact that he'd been doing exactly that. "- sorry. anyways - yeah. i think you can - you like this one? he looks, like - cool. chill. epic, maybe."

"so like, every time i play can i keep being these cute ethereal elf characters? or do i have to switch out every once in a while? i saw in a reddit thread that using the same character in different campaigns is obnoxious ." salem was virtually clueless when it came to d&d. she'd been dabbling in it only for a short while but she was already having a hard time keeping up with everything, luckily for her that's where drew and birdie came in to help. "you and birdie are like my guru's when it comes to this. i'm trusting you not to make me look like a complete idiot when i'm officially ready to do my first campaign." she said with a laugh.
