Reading A Candle

Reading A Candle

Reading A Candle

Watch your candles closely and learn to read them to help you with your practice.

The Flame

A strong flame: It means that your energies are raised. There is a lot of power behind your spell and little to no resistance. Indicates that all your power and energy is focused on your manifestation. This is a good sign. If a candle shaped into a figure is used and has a strong flame it means that whoever it represents is either angry, winning, or using authority over another. When their are two figures the candle with the higher flame has authority over the other person.

A weak flame: Indicates that the magick you cast is facing a heavy opposition and is a sign that you may need to recast your spell in order to overcome the opposing force. On a figure candle this may indicate that the representative may be loosing a battle or an argument.

A jumping flame: This indicates strong emotions. There may also be some sort of resistance against you. Maybe close your circle and bring your mind back to focus before continuing. It may also mean an explosion of energy. When two figure candles are being used it often means that an energetic or a heated argument is taking place between them.

A noisy candle: Indicates a conversation. It may may that a spirit is trying to send you a message or get in contact with you. The louder the noises get the more urgent communication must be.

The flame catches something on fire: Someone one may be using malicious magick against you.

A clean even burning candle: Means your spell and manifestations are likely to come true.

Fast Burn: The results of your spell will happen quickly.

Flickering Flame: If there is no breeze then it means a spirit is near by. If it is a devotional flame it means you were able to get in contact with your deity.

Cannot blow the flame out: A spirit may not be finished its conversation with you or you did not complete a spell. The spirit needs to complete its work, something may be may in the works that you do not want to interrupt.

A flame goes out while burning: This means the spirits cannot help you and the answer you seek is already determined.

The Smoke

Black smoke/soot: Your energy and magick is being blocked. Negative energy is being sent your way, whether as a curse or hex. You may soon be faced with tough challenges and a hard road ahead of you.

Smoke wafts towards you: It means your call will likely be answered or your spell has been cast successfully. You will get results quickly.

Smoke wafts away from you: You must work harder in order for your calls to be answered.

Watch the direction the smoke wafts: East - Something powerful is assisting you, North - You are ready to begin your ritual and get results, South - The spell will be successful, West - A powerful interference from an outside force.

Smoking Candle: Negative energy is being burned away.

The Wax

When a candle leaves wax residue: Your spell may need to be repeated.

Look for symbols in the candle wax, like reading tea leaves.

Nonverbal Witchcraft

image

For my witches who cannot speak, struggle to speak, or choose to remain quiet.

This post is a compilation of ideas and personal methods from fellow nonverbal witches. Not everything may fit for you, but hopefully it will give you a starting point!

Spells:

Write the words and focus your energy on bringing them into being. You could burn the piece of paper to finish off the spell. One contributor also mentions burying the paper.

Our thoughts are powerful. Focus, and say the words in your mind.

You can also mouth the words without speaking them, if that helps you.

Whispering is also great if that works for you!

Find power in silence, use it as its own tool.

Use instruments to create certain rhythms for different spells, instead of chanting.

If sound is helpful, play music that you feel relates/connects you to the spell.

Cast circles and finalize spells by snapping.

Sigils are concentrated intention–use that to your advantage. They can absolutely be a base for spellwork.

Use a power source; the elements (candles, soil, the air around you, a bowl of water, etc.), crystals, burning herbs, etc.

To feel energy without using words to confirm: use tools that have stronger energy that you can physically feel.

Make spell candles, jars or sachets.

Use sign language! I’m of the opinion that everyone should at least learn the basics, and there are plenty of free resources out there!

Specific spells:

Casting a circle: “You can cast a circle by walking in a circle and visualizing your footsteps imprinting on the earth below, creating a barrier of light (color chosen to correspond to intention at the time), walk the circle 3 times and see the barrier in your mind forming a perfect sphere around your work space, becoming brighter and stronger each step you take.”*

To banish: write the things you wish to banish on a piece of paper, light them on fire with a black candle and place in a burn bowl.

To release and invite: use two pieces of paper. On one, write down everything you’d like to release from your life. On the other, write down everything you’d like to invite into your life. Burn the release paper and dispose of the ashes, keep the invite paper. (Optional: I like to do this on the new moon, and have a black candle above the release paper and a white candle above the invite paper).

Protective charm: (click here)

To raise you out of a dark place: (click here)

Spell of destruction: (click here)

Energy work:

Use a cajon, bells, singing bowl, steel tongue drum/moondrum, or other instruments to raise energy!

“I have a specific snapping rhythm that is ‘magic time’. When I snap the rhythm once or three times it’s go time and I fall into the zone.”*

“For energy work and to raise energy I dance and as my heartbeat gets louder in my ears I mentally chant with it, focusing on a short phrase, intention, or incantation with the energy I physically raised and the meditative repetition of my mind.”*

Use a power source; the elements, crystals, burning herbs, etc.

Most energy work involves movement, rather than words (click here for energy work with restricted movement).

Other ideas:

Worship: write letters, devote your actions, decorate an altar. Prayers don’t need to be spoken! Or write your prayers and place them on an altar, burn them, or keep them. (Bedridden worship)

Divination doesn’t require spoken word, especially once you have a bond with your tools. You can always use writing, sigils, or your thoughts to channel your intent/question. (Bedridden divination)

Charge crystals with your intent and wear them/carry them in a pouch.

Kitchen witchcraft, garden magic, tea magic, etc. etc.

Utilize the correspondences of the items in your life.

)O( WITCH TIP )O(

Hello my fellow witchlings! I just wanted to shout a reminder about mortars and pestles and spell work! Note: mortar and pestles are usually made of stone or wood. WOOD IS ONLY FOR HERBS. Stone ones–soap stone or otherwise–is use for crushing resins and even fresh garlic! I would recommend having one stone one for your kitchen for kitchen magic, and one stone one exclusively for resins. You’ll see why in a moment. If you’re a witch who likes grinding things into powder (oh hi!) please remember the following: - Use 2 separate mortars and pestles, one for resins and one for herbs. - Resins get gummy the more you pulverize them and it’s been my experience that myrrh in particular is sticky/gummy and WILL leave a bit of a sticky residue in the mortar. There will always be a bit of resin stuck in the rougher mortars. It’s life. But it’s also why you should keep it separate from herbs. Too sticky. - Use wooden mortars and pestles for crushing and mixing herbs and oils. Always crush herbs before adding oil (or essential oils). Wood is used because oil doesn’t soak into it like it will in stone. - Remember that churning your pestle in a clockwise direction stirs IN magic and positivity. Counter clock wise banishes negative energy. A mortar and pestle is a great way to practice focusing and raising your energy if you’re new to spell work! Find an incense recipe you want to make, ground and center, then get comfy in your magic kitchen or in a space you’ve deemed magical (or sacred). put on music that’s calming or upbeat (but no words), whatever your preference! I usually listen to Gaelic or even Hawaiian music when I do this!  Take each plant and hold it for a moment. Feel it’s energy. What does it feel like? Thank the herb and put it in your mortar and begin to crush it, focusing on putting your energy into each crush and turn, on the reason why you’re making this incense (protection? Luck? Love? Happy home?). Do the same for each herb (and then oil) you use. Feel the energy raising and flowing from your hand to the plants, from the plants to your hand, building energy in the mortar.  When you feel its done/ready say “so mot it be”. Your incense is ready to use!

Connecting With Your Spirit Guides ❁ཻུ۪۪ ━

Connecting With Your Spirit Guides ❁ཻུ۪۪ ━

‧₊˚.  : · •.  * • ˚   . · * ✶   : · •  *   ˚ ✵

In this discussion, we will explore various methods for establishing a connection with your spirit guides. It's important to note that this is not a definitive guide dictating what you should or shouldn't do, but rather a collection of different approaches that can help you discover what works best for you.

However, I will say this, and it's nothing bad. When establishing a connection with your spirit guides or receiving their signs, it's important to release the belief that it will be an extraordinary encounter where they manifest in front of you with physical forms, complete with wings or even a motorbike. By letting go of expectations regarding their appearance, status, and more, you can better open yourself up to recognizing the subtle signs that you might otherwise miss if you cling to such unrealistic expectations.

Connecting With Your Spirit Guides ❁ཻུ۪۪ ━

𖤣𖥧˚ Set Your Intention

Start by clarifying your intention to connect with your spirit guides. Clearly state your desire to establish a connection and seek their guidance and support.

𖤣𖥧˚ Ask For a Sign

If you're seeking guidance on a specific issue, ask your spirit guides for a clear sign to confirm their presence or provide direction. Be open to receiving the sign in unexpected ways, such as through conversations, songs, or encounters with specific animals or numbers.

𖤣𖥧˚ Pay Attention to Signs and Synchronicities

This goes back to the second part of this list. Throughout your day, be mindful of any signs, symbols, or synchronicities that catch your attention. Spirit guides often communicate through subtle messages in the form of numbers, animals, repeated patterns, or meaningful coincidences. My spirit guides would catch my attention by using feathers and placing them in unordinary spots.

𖤣𖥧˚ Practice Active Listening

Be patient and receptive during your connection attempts. Practice active listening by quieting your mind and being open to receiving messages or guidance from your guides. Pay attention to any thoughts, ideas, or insights that arise.

𖤣𖥧˚ Create a Sacred Space

Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can relax and focus without distractions. This can be a corner in your room, a meditation area, or anywhere you feel at ease.

𖤣𖥧˚ Call upon your guides

Silently or verbally call upon your spirit guides. You can address them by name if you already know it or simply ask for their presence and guidance. Be sincere and open-hearted in your communication.

𖤣𖥧˚ Dreamwork

Before sleep, set the intention to connect with your spirit guides in your dreams. Keep a dream journal beside your bed and record any dreams or messages you receive upon waking. Your guides may use dreams as a way to communicate with you.

𖤣𖥧˚ Keep a journal

Maintain a journal or notebook dedicated to your spiritual journey. Write down your experiences, any insights or messages you receive, and any signs or synchronicities you notice. This helps you track your progress and gain clarity over time.

𖤣𖥧˚ Nature connection

Spend time in nature, whether it's going for a walk in the woods, sitting by the ocean, or simply being in your backyard. Nature can provide a serene and harmonious environment to connect with your spirit guides and receive their guidance.

𖤣𖥧˚ Meditation

Meditation can quiet your mind and create a receptive space for communication with your spirit guides. Additionally, listening to music or following a guided meditation centred around connecting with your guides can be beneficial. In my personal opinion, the duration of your meditation session is not as important as the intention behind it. Whether it's a brief 30-minute session or a shorter period, the ultimate aim remains the same: establishing a connection with your guides.

Hey I was wondering if you had any advice/resources on beginning/using osteomancy?

sure!resources:

- this site gives a pretty good overview of bone throwing and even gives some ideas on bone types

- this site is also good for info on how to interact with your bone set

- this video is also a good source of information

- this book was my go to when starting out in bone throwing. it has a lot of information and ideas and can really give you a good idea of where to start

tips:

- this type of divination is very personal and super intuitive. there’s no right or wrong way to read the bones. you assign each bone their meaning and so the interpretations are always solely on you.

-anything can be used in osteomancy, but it’ll still generally be called a “bone.” for example, i used a bullet shell, and a bottle cap and various other oddities. i still call them bones

-this may not be up your alley, but i’ve found that talking to my bones and “feeding” them has only made my intuition with them stronger. don’t worry about looking silly, it’s fairly traditional to do.

that’s really all i can think of. you can find more articles and such by googling “bone throwing” instead of osteomancy. if you have any more questions about it, feel free to ask me. good luck!!

Grimoire Challenge - Week 8: Thursday

Law Of Attraction Spell to attract a stronger bond between two lovers:

**I’m gonna go ahead and put a warning on this one. Please don’t use this on a random person who you want to fall for you, that’s your job. Don’t try to make magic do it for you. This is more for couples who just want to be closer, and feel bonded to each other**

Tools needed:

a poppet of yourself and your love.

Red string

any objects to represent what you want to bring into your love life.

Take the two poppets, and place them in a comfortable area of your home, surrounded by small objects that represent things you want to attract in your relationship. Even if you just surround them with small paper hearts or rose petals to represent love, that is fine! Next, take your red string, and tie it first to the hand of your poppet, and begin saying,

“This doll and I, we are one,

I bring love to one, and to mine, the same.”

Then tie the other end of the string to the other poppet. Finish by saying:

“With this knot I do bond,

our love is true, our feelings fond.

May now our hearts beat as one,

a deeper connection, through this thread is spun.”

You can then leave these poppets out as sort of a ‘love altar’ and add or move items around on it as a way of attracting them to you, and into your relationship!

Rune Activity:

Group 3: Change

Thurisaz - Conflicts, breakthrough, either a change for good or a change due to a failure, possibly.

Jera - Life cycles, and cyclic change. The idea of a fruitful season, peace, happiness.

Dagaz - Breakthrough, awakening, and awareness. A time of clarity.

These runes can be used as carvings or in spells to inspire needed change, the solving of conflicts, or for awareness in ones’ endeavors.

Beginning Tips for a Witchy Notebook

I get a lot of asks about how I started my notebook whenever I post pictures of it! I do have a background in scrapbooking/collage/art, which is reflected in my witchy notebook. I’ve been a self-identified practicing witch for about a year now, but many of the practices in my craft have been in my life for years.

Some people call them Book of Shadows, grimoire, or simply just a “witchy notebook.” Here are some tips that helped me when I was beginning my notebook. Lengthy post with pictures!

image

Notebook? Binder? E-grimoire?

There are lots of ways to keep all your witchy information together. You can keep your grimoire on the notes of your phone, documents on your laptop, Canva/other graphic design website, loose leaf papers or in a binder, or a regular bound notebook. Don’t place too much pressure on yourself! Whatever feels right is right.

Start with what you like (but stay open to what you don’t know!)

Your notebook won’t have the same authentic magic if you fill it with things that you don’t actually care about! While my first notebook contains some aspects of witchcraft that I don’t practice now, they were still important to me at the time. Your notebook is a visual representation of your journey, so don’t be afraid to fill it with your current obsession with crystals or a one specific tarot card.

These are some really great tags for exploring topics when you don’t know where to start!

witch tips

baby witch

witchy 101

And some simple ideas for your first entries:

your birth chart

what you want to use magic for

a collage page of your witch aesthetic (or ideal aesthetic)

a wish list

your favorite crystals

a simple moon calendar (full/new moons of the year, month, or just information about the phases)

your favorite colors, seasons, places in nature etc

record information about the chakras/energy points in the body

list of your favorite witchy movies and tv shows

draw teacups and fill them with drawings of your favorite blends

drawings of your ideal familiars (animal companions)

A couple witchy things that you may not have heard about but are super cool to incorporate into your craft:

sigils (visual symbols charged with an intent)

incantations (short spells that sometimes rhyme)

Don’t knock Pinterest.

I personally like to have very organized and planned out pages. I’ve resorted to Pinterest *many* times to get graphic ideas for lunar calendars, zodiac wheels and other witchy things that require a lot of information in a condensed graphic. Pinterest has great inspiration for those special, planed out spreads.

Separate or keep it altogether.

Some people like to keep everything in one notebook/binder, others like to separate their topics or layouts into different notebooks. I started a bullet journal for more planned out pages, but my general notebook is a leuchtturm1917 with dotted grids where I have reference pages and personal entries.

Here are some pages of my notebook that I’m especially proud of.

Ultimately, your notebook is a reflection of YOU. It doesn’t have to be super witchy, covered in cobwebs with etched pentagrams. It can be a simple composition notebook or a super frilly lace journal. Be true to yourself and your notebook will never lead you astray. Best of luck and feel free to message me!

The Seven Stings Hex

The Seven Stings Hex

This is a hex intended to provide long term irritation and discomfort to the target until they’ve learned a specific lesson.

Materials

- 7 white tealights

- 7 thorns (I use bougainvillia or rose but any will do)

- Vinegar

- Sea salt

- Small bottle

- Needle

- Target’s name on paper

Steps

1. Soak your thorns in vinegar for whatever amount of time you feel you need. I usually leave mine for a few hours

2. Line your seven candles up so that they are next to each other, you can have them in either a row or a circle, whichever you like!

3. Light all your candles and place a thorn in front of each. Picture the energies of each thorn and candle linking to one another.

4. Fold the piece of paper with your targets name so that it has three layers.

5. Needle in one hand and paper in the other, recite the following chant (I like to do another chant more specific to the situation before this one as well). As you speak it, pierce the paper with your needle.

“Mind, body, soul - my hex will take its toll.”

Place the paper and the needle in your bottle for later.

6. Next, repeat the following words. As you say each line, extinguish on of your candles and place its respective thorn into your bottle.

“Seven days of slight unease

Seven nights of restless sleep

Seven dawns of nagging guilt

Seven dusks of bad luck built

Seven days of karma coming

Seven days of endless running

Seven days of all you’ve earned

Until your lesson you have learned

But should the lesson stay unheeded

These seven days shall be repeated”

7. Throw a pinch of salt in the bottle. Meditate with the open bottle for awhile and focus on your intent, allow your energy to flow into it. When you’re ready, seal the bottle. You may use wax for this if you wish.

8. Leave the bottle in a cold, dark place to add to the discomfort. I left mine outside during a storm. Don’t forget to cleanse your space and yourself after performing a hex! Once you feel the bottle has done its work, burn its flammable contents and cleanse everything else.

I like to perform this hex at night on the evening of a new moon, and of course for any hexes or curses a stormy night is always best, however as always your intent is the main ingredient!

(My photo, please don’t use without permission.)
