hello people who follow me whose interests presumably align with my own, i would like to strongly recommend to you the serial web novel Katalepsis. there's a plot summary on that linked page if you want to take a peek, as well as content warnings, but you can also start blind here (unless you feel like you need to take a glance over the content warnings!)
very nice blend of cosmic horror/urban fantasy with a dash of lesbian romance (there are a lot of lesbians in this), generally a fun story and very worth a read. the pacing is probably the best part, i managed to carve through this one pretty quick despite its volume because it doesn't feel like a lot to read in practice. so very enthralling and with worldbuilding that has me very intrigued
Shoutout to the maned wolf, which is technically neither wolf nor fox but has its own genus called Chrysocyon! Why -
why are your legs so long?
I mean, intellectually, I understand that it’s because you live in grasslands and have evolved to be able to see over the grass, but emotionally… why? Are they?? Like that??? Surely there was a way to make your body more cohesive and proportional-looking?
so looking from the perspective of like, a random mid-level prt cape in brockton bay ~2011, right. you know marquis and heartbreaker were both villains active semi-locally in the 90s with powers related to manipulating human biology. heartbreaker is known to have a lot of kids and there's no way marquis wasn't sexually active. marquis has a royalty-themed name and dressing style. heartbreaker's power doesn't apply to himself.
and there are also these two teen capes in town, regent and panacea, both of mysterious origin (regent just showed up out of nowhere and panacea is an adoptee whose powers clearly didn't bud off the dallons'), both with powers related to manipulating human biology. regent has a royalty-themed name and dressing style. panacea's power famously doesn't work on herself.

there is a wasp called the "beewolf" that hunts bees
(theres over a hundred species of beewolf actually)
I remember reading beewolf epic poem in college and he did do all of that
if you think about it. it's really funny in a fucked up tragic way that aisha told taylor brian went to go live in a cabin. like she really lost everything. she really lost everything and just hit the Fuck It point in life. like sure, i'll tell taylor that, fuck it. she really looked taylor straight in the eye and straightfacedly went "Yes. My brother, Brian, is still alive. He went to live on a nice farm upstate. He has lots of fresh grass to run around in. They feed him every day. He has all the punching bags he could ever punch for when he's feeling angsty and emotionally repressed. He gets to fill out taxes and apply for mortgages on a regular basis as enrichment. They let him listen to his Linkin Park CDs as loud as he wants. He even has his sad rebound girlfriend with him. He's free and happy on the farm upstate." it's like taylor's pet hamster got ran over by a car but nobody wanted to tell taylor because if she found out she would go stand in front of a moving car herself except instead of a hamster it's brian. and instead of a moving car it's jesus. and taylor BOUGHT it. she BOUGHT it. she really thought her hamster didn't get squished. she thinks her hamster is off playing board games in a fucking cabin. taylor really sees aisha going [clenches fist] i hope this fucking sucks for scion. because of when my bro... (stops bc she realizes taylor is right there and doesn't know jesus threw the sun at brian) and taylor's still like. Ah yes, when he got Bonesawed :) I'm sure you're not bringing him up in response to seeing jesus for any particular reason! He's happy and free upstate :). it's SO fucking...😭 taylor brian and aisha man. Man.
Dungeon Meshi...AH! Dungeon Meshi!
despite it all worm is good and understands trauma like basically nothing else i've ever read
the funniest part of the endgame sequence of Worm is when the narrative completely forgets about the END OF THE WORLD for a hot second to describe in great detail how sexy and effeminate Marquis is. how even though she isn't usually interested in feminine men or older men Amy's dad is gnc af and just so incredibly fuckable. Taylor there's people that are dying
The thing that absolutely kills me about Ianthe being a main character is that nobody fucking invited her. She’s not involved in this shit beyond her forcing herself into it. Harrow is connected to the soul of a murdered goddess who she’s also in love with, and Gideon’s the daughter of the man who murdered a planet to become god, and Ianthe is…? Here? I guess???
Ianthe has no connection to this plot, she’s got nothing to do with any of it, she’s just so FUCKING desperate for the spotlight to finally be on her that she’ll do anything for it.
I think it’s because worm explores identity a lot: With masks and labels and cape names; choosing names and being given names. None of these are explicitly trans coded, but I feel they capture the feelings quite well.
does worm have some sort of transfem beam or something it seems like every transfem person i know has read worm (you don't count because I dont know you but you have read worm)
hmmm... wildbow writes some really good trans characters but not in worm lmao so it's not that. maybe its just because taylor is Like That? transfem wormblr followers chip in there's gotta be like dozens of you
