Happy February! New month, new me? I’m going to do the productivity challenge again.
My mum visited me at uni today so I spent the afternoon with her in Birmingham. I decided to condense 3 handouts from my lecture course on carbonyl chemistry onto one summary page this morning before I met her, and I finished it off after she left to get the train home.
I decided to write up the mechanism for Swern oxidation even though it’s beyond the scope of the first year course; it helps me remember the conditions if I actually know what each reagent does!
These diagrams make me happy

Ever finish a book and get lost in all the choice of where to go next? I have no idea! So come on Tumblr, help me out :)
For anyone who sees this in the same boat, if you haven’t met Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell or All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, I urge you to give them a try!
Say it louder for the people at the back!
Just a reminder, but you do not need to “earn” being tired.
You’re allowed to be tired, even if you haven’t “done” anything and you’re allowed to be tired even if you did less than someone else.
Being tired is a normal thing your body does for a whole plethora of reasons, and is a basic bodily function. You don’t need to “earn” basic bodily functions, no matter what anyone else tells you.
Rant of the day: science communication within academia is far more pretentious than it is effective. Within the first sentence of a 42 page article, I have counted *14* prepositions. What’s more, not a single comma (or any other punctuation, actually) is present to break up 7 lines of text. That sentence is more like a paragraph in itself.
I don’t care about esoteric buzzwords thrown in to show what big bollocks your brain cells have, I care about the content. But if I have to wade through dense thickets of unpunctuated text, I will stop caring pretty quickly. I don’t have time to decipher the product of your falsely inflated ego!
TL;DR if you want people to read and understand your shit, make it readable and understandable!
~fin~
You know when you *should* work but you are having such a bad day you can’t? That’s me right now. And I’m cool with that
16/08/18 So studying languages is amazing but I also love sciences and there is an introductory lecture tomorrow about pharmacokinetics that I unfortunately am not attending. However, it looked like fun so I’m reading up on it myself and making some notes for something to do because it’s 22:14 right now. I’m not a person to specialise in just one thing 😫

Sorry, I’m moaning. I did get to finish the first chapter of A2 maths so I’m on par with the rest of my year ready for the 10th!
Notes aren’t the prettiest but they’re functional and ok to look at. Also thanks for the love my little account has been getting as of late!
Hey! Love your page. I love all your notes and it reminds me of mine! I love to spend each day learning the subjects (chemistry, physics and maths) especially maths and physics because they offer huge new challenges. I’m intrigued to know what your favourite topic in chemistry is though?
Thank you so much! I am a sucker for anything organic - particularly when you’re dealing with aromatic compounds as well as aliphatic and alicyclic ones :)
