Today has been mad but fun. My lovely biology teacher lent me her old uni textbook because she knows I’m a massive genetics nerd. I can’t wait to get stuck in!
I’m making good progress with maths and am hoping to get some more pure done this evening, as well as lots of stats and mechanics. I started A2 stats and mechanics yesterday, which wasn’t awful. Everyone in classes moan they hate moments, but I find them okay!
I had my weekly Doppeldeutsch lesson with my favourite teacher and we had a lot of fun all round finishing watching The Reader.
Sorry I forgot to post! I fell asleep haha
I did loads of maths in my free, so I dedicated at least an hour to each subject. I’m very happy with my progress so far!
Kinetics took me forever to understand but it is an aesthetic
Life is mean. It builds your hopes up and then lets them crash and burn in the most brutal way. But pick yourself up, soldier. You are stronger than the harshest disappointment and more resilient than your grief.
TIL!
Nickname - “An. Eke. Name”
Nickname is one of those words created by people talking too fast. The original phrase was “an eke name” from “eke” meaning “also” i.e. “Aristocles is my real name but Plato is an eke name” Said fast “an eke name” sounded like “a nickname”, and the phonological word evolved.
I can’t believe September just disappeared! Anyway, I had the morning off school so I analysed chapters 2 and 3 of the first part of Der Vorleser in preparation for tomorrow’s lesson, and I also finished some chemistry graphs. Then I read some L’invitée (nope, still not done with that 😂) and am currently binge watching documentaries about genetics, epigenetics and genetic disorders. Also, Khan Academy videos about the lac and trp operons. Highly awesome.
Can you tell I love genetics?
Also: have a tiny potato. It’s not mine and I don’t know who created it but I feel like I want to share this because it makes me smile.
Have a great week!
Thanks for the tag, @a-maze-h :)
Three facts about me:
- My favourite film is Dead Poets Society (and I will ship Neil and Todd until the day I die). There aren’t many films that make me emotional, but with this one I cry every time.
- While I was in primary school, I was adamant that I wanted to be a cryptanalyst when I grew up. I spent my days solving various puzzles and ciphers, and today I can solve a “hard” sudoku in a couple of minutes!
- My maternal grandparents were both Ukrainian and I spent every day of my childhood around them, so I could have been raised truly bilingual. But my family all thought I would get confused with English. So, they instead refused to speak a word in their mother tongue around me. There is therefore a cruel irony in my love of languages - I speak 2 others aside from English proficiently, but not a word of Ukrainian! (Yes I regret this, and will one day rectify it)

thank you so much for the tag @sleepy-night-child!
rules: post three random facts about yourself (or your book/ocs) and tag the seven last blogs in your notifications.
1. i’m finishing school this friday! that’s not a particularly interesting fact, just something i’m both excited and terrified about.
2. seventh sunfall is my oldest wip (at least, that i’m still working on). i started it at the start of high school, when i was about 11/12, and it’s still going, even if it’s barely recognisable as the story it was to begin with!
3. the first language i tried to learn was greek, when i was about five (emphasis on tried). it was a complete failure, but i’m still holding out hope that i might pick it back up some day.

Hello all! Just been to Waterstones with my best friend reading, writing German essays and doing some mechanics.
Exciting news this week: I booked flights and a hotel for the 13th-15th January so she and I can stay in Berlin for my 18th birthday on the 14th! I’m so anxious but excited about it :)
I cannot wait to go back to school, but I am very nervous about my Cambridge NatSci pre-interview assessment on Wednesday (as if Halloween wasn’t scary enough without this!).
So this week I’ve been into watching MIT open lectures on YouTube and reading the fabulous book you see pictured: Endless Forms Most Beautiful by Sean B. Carroll. It’s about Evo Devo and I highly recommend this book to everyone remotely interested in the genetics/evolution side of biology.
It is Wednesday, my dudes!
I am right in the middle of mocks right now and I have biology and chemistry tomorrow. I am revising the heart because I’ve not done it in a while! (I also quite enjoy drawing it - can you tell?)
How has your week been so far?
Mindmaps make everything look so much more manageable
Today has been really productive. I went to school for two hours for some biology revision and then went to meet a friend for lunch. It was such a lovely day that I chose to walk the hour back home rather than catch a bus so I could listen to the audiobook version of Nineteen Eighty Four. However, as punishment for being healthy, I now have blisters on the soles of both feet :(

So I have the flu and am sofa-bound but not even an uncomfortable illness can keep me away from Les Liaisons Dangereuses. It’s all written in letter form so I can read small chunks at a time.
So if you’re not familiar: this is an 18th century scandal among the Parisian aristocracy. The two main characters basically plot to exploit a young, newly-engaged, fresh-out-a-convent virgin girl and her fiancé to bring shame upon their names all because said fiancé rejected the salty antagonist. That is MAJORLY oversimplified but the gossip in here is very juicy haha
Have a great weekend!
