Nickname - “An. Eke. Name”
Nickname is one of those words created by people talking too fast. The original phrase was “an eke name” from “eke” meaning “also” i.e. “Aristocles is my real name but Plato is an eke name” Said fast “an eke name” sounded like “a nickname”, and the phonological word evolved.
This is why I love chemistry. It’s messy yet highly predictable, and all molecules are intrinsically related to one another - even if it’s hard to get from one to the other in a single step.
I mentioned nucleophilic acyl substitution on my personal statement, and I’m just reminding myself of it - just in case Cambridge decide to grill me on it. In fact, as much as I HATE my personal statement, I’m going through it all. But my grey mildliner is healing my heart :)
Ahhh Le petit prince is the cutest book ever! It’s the most philosophical thing I’ve ever read and it’s for children 😂 love it 💕

How do you guys define productivity? (I actually wanted to write something deep).
(10/100)
Happy Wednesday guys! I had a full day of lessons today. The routine is pretty much the same as Tuesday (and, as you’ll find out, Thursdays and Fridays too). Anyway, this is what my Wednesday looked like :)
06:45-07:20 Up, washed, dressed and out the house
07:35-08:00 Commute to school
08:00 German quizlets in the sixth form work room
08:30-08:50 Form time with my lovely bio teacher! Fun times
08:50-09:50 Chemistry ft a fun rant from my teacher (not really it scared me even though it wasn’t aimed at me!) about how we are all deluded if we think we are going to succeed by putting such little effort into things
09:55-12:25 Double German! (With a half an hour break in between, don’t panic). Half was spent studying Der Vorleser, the other half on grammar
12:30-13:30 French with my favourite teacher. I did a listening assessment and... not much else to be fair 😂
13:30-14:00 Lunch/ form competitions. I represented my form in skittle sorting with one hand. I won my heat but came in third overall so far. The rest of the forms play tomorrow. We are out of the running for the form prize but I did get the bag of skittles haha
14:00-15:00 Biology - the topic was regulating gene expression on the transcriptional level and I LOVED IT. What an amazing way to end the day!
15:40 Arrived home to chill out. Honestly I feel awful so I decided to take a break.
17:00 Tea time :)
17:30-20:00 Maths revision before I move on to A2 stats (ew)
20:00-21:00 A cup of tea for me... plus some Vick’s Vapour rub and paracetamol haha
Night all! I might do another of these when I’m not ill so you can really see my life - this is nothing compared to how I normally work. Yes it’s a lot but I have to plough through.
I haven’t been that active on here recently, but I feel it is important to do what I can to support the BLM movement.
Saying this is probably futile, but I don’t want to stay in the shadows. I have a voice of privilege and I need to use it somehow.
I will start by saying this. As a white person, I do not claim as my brethren those who think that discriminating against another person for the colour of their skin is acceptable. I don’t associate myself with hateful people. If those people were family members or friends, they aren’t anymore, as far as I’m concerned. I am ashamed of those who carry out, condone and defend racially-motivated attacks and police brutality.
I am doing all I can, as one single, unimportant individual, to support the cause, including speaking up to racist comments - but I could always be more educated. If anyone could recommend any books, podcasts, documentaries, films etc that explore racism, I’d love to hear about them.
I moved into the University of Birmingham yesterday and met my lovely flatmates! I’m very excited to finally have a proper desk to work at - I have graduated from an almost-three-legged coffee table and an old pouffe :)
It’s a bit of an adjustment but it’s a lot of fun so far and I think things will turn out just fine. I love love love my campus; it’s so pretty!
Hello all! I’ve been getting a lot of questions based on how I balance school and home life, so I’ve decided I’m going to break down my days, hour by hour, over the course of the week beginning Monday 24th September 2018.
I’m mainly doing this because I love finding out how people use their days - and because I would personally benefit from really analysing how I use my own. Is this something you’d like to see?
please reblog this if you’re a new or smaller studyblr (preferably with your own content) so i can follow and reblog from you!! xx
Thanks for the tag, @a-maze-h :)
Three facts about me:
- My favourite film is Dead Poets Society (and I will ship Neil and Todd until the day I die). There aren’t many films that make me emotional, but with this one I cry every time.
- While I was in primary school, I was adamant that I wanted to be a cryptanalyst when I grew up. I spent my days solving various puzzles and ciphers, and today I can solve a “hard” sudoku in a couple of minutes!
- My maternal grandparents were both Ukrainian and I spent every day of my childhood around them, so I could have been raised truly bilingual. But my family all thought I would get confused with English. So, they instead refused to speak a word in their mother tongue around me. There is therefore a cruel irony in my love of languages - I speak 2 others aside from English proficiently, but not a word of Ukrainian! (Yes I regret this, and will one day rectify it)
I’m tagging @allo-hello-hola @lastnxvember @univers-of-biology @himynameisirina @caffelattestudies @studydiaryofanhistorian - absolutely no pressure!
thank you so much for the tag @sleepy-night-child!
rules: post three random facts about yourself (or your book/ocs) and tag the seven last blogs in your notifications.
1. i’m finishing school this friday! that’s not a particularly interesting fact, just something i’m both excited and terrified about.
2. seventh sunfall is my oldest wip (at least, that i’m still working on). i started it at the start of high school, when i was about 11/12, and it’s still going, even if it’s barely recognisable as the story it was to begin with!
3. the first language i tried to learn was greek, when i was about five (emphasis on tried). it was a complete failure, but i’m still holding out hope that i might pick it back up some day.
i’m tagging (no pressure! feel free to ignore this if you don’t do tag games, or if you just don’t want to) @writing-with-l @lend-your-lungs-to-me @generalblizzarddreamer @magnoliaash @writing-is-a-martial-art @47crayons @wannabeauthorzofija
