TW: Christianity, Death
Adora smiles softly and Alice walks Marlo off to find his mother. Adora goes to her room to mull over everything they’ve gone through today. Marlo’s death has conflicted her more now. His friends and family are strong though and will make it through.
Adora decides to go to the living world to walk and hopefully get a better understanding of the living world. Maybe she’ll be able to talk things over with Xander. Flying down to an active city she walks around hidden to the public eye.
“Leave him the fuck alone how bout that!” a familiar voice yells out.
Adora looks over shocked and sees Xander, but he looks different. His wings are hidden and his third eye is gone. His fashion and hair have stayed the same. His eyes, pink as ever, have anger in them as they glare at the older lady he’s addressing. Adora steps closer to fully witness the situation.
“You’re insane! You’re all insane!” The lady says before huffing off.
Xander turns back to the young boy he was protecting and smiles. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, thank you, sir,” he says smiling hugging him.
“Xander?” Adora says softly. His eyes flicker up then back to the young boy.
“If you’re okay then I'd best go, I have errands to run. Stay safe, ok,’ Xander says before walking away. The boy nods watching Xander leave oblivious to the angel following the secret fallen cupid. Turning a corner with little people Xander hides, “Adora, what are you doing here?”
“I wanted to talk to you about a mission I just had… and failed,” she says softly looking down.
“Failed? How badly?” Xander says softly watching his friend.
“He died. But it’s confusing. He likes the afterlife, but we said goodbye to his family today and it wasn’t nice. He cried and he was sad and so were his friends and family. But when he was alive they were ignoring him, who he was. He was trans and he wasn’t able to really transition and… he feels free now I guess but,”
“Death is complicated Adora, even in ideal situations there’s mourning. There’s always gonna be someone sad, from family, from friends, from the deceased themselves. They may miss their old life, childhood, companions, or body. You just need to give the support you can,” Xander explains.
Adora nods tearing up again being reminded of all who she hurt.
“Don’t cry. It’ll be okay. You just need to learn and adapt,”
“How do I help someone who doesn’t want to live? Who wants to hurt? With only persuasion? I hurt him. I hurt him so much, he died because of me,” Adora cries hugging Xander.
Tensing at the sudden contact Xander hugs back patting her back. “There’s a few ways: therapy, journaling, walking. I’m sure your classes will go through them. But if they don’t I can show you afterwards.”
“You can? But don’t you help people by being there physically? Since you’ve fallen?”
“Yes, but I know a thing or two about humans, and how they cope from living down here for so long. Don’t worry. I’ll help you okay,”
“Thank you so much, Xander,” Adora says calming down smiling softly.
Xander smiles back nodding while Adora lets go. “If you ever need something, Adora, in the human world, I’ll tell you to reach me. In case you need advice or something, but don’t use it too much. I don’t want you to get in trouble,”
“Thank you so much, Xander. I’d appreciate that so much. I promise I won’t use it much, just in emergencies,”
Xander nods before taking a deep breath. “Hold your hands close to your heart, vision me clearly and call my name. You have to put a lot of focus into it,”
Nodding, Adora smiles softly waving. “Thank you. I’ll be off then. Goodbye,” As she flies off Xander watches curious as to what will happen with her.
Adora finishes the week by observing Marlo’s family and friends and making sure Marlo transitions well to the afterlife. A pamphlet arrives at her dorm telling her what classes she will be taking.
Adora’s Class Schedule
Humans Mental Health 1000 building 100
Dealing With Death 1200 building 333
Human Angel Safety 1400 building 210
3 months
If you fail these classes you will have to retake them
Only three classes for three months, it’s only her first mistake so it's natural they don’t overbook a new angel.
Adora smiles softly nodding to herself setting the pamphlet on her desk. These classes will help her with her future. After these classes are done she'll still be on leave for 9 months to continue studying on her own through books and visiting the human world.
TW: Christianity, Death, mentions of suicide
The next day Adora wakes up bright and early getting ready for class. She brushes her hair, fluffs her feathers out, and gets dressed before leaving and heading to building 100 where Humans Mental Health is kept.
“Good morning class. I will be your teacher for this class. I am Professor Mary but you can just call me Mary if you'd prefer. In this class, we'll focus on what mental health is in humans and how as guardian angels you can help with mental health,” Mary introduces setting up the class. Adora smiles sitting down and taking in the class.
The first day of class was spent on introductions. Introducing the students to the concepts, terms, and things that Adora and her classmates will encounter in the syllabus.
Afterwards, Adora heads off to her next class Dealing with Death. She knows this one will be a little heavier than the last class but it'll be alright. Adora has a ton of support: Xander, Ariel, and the other guardian angels. This class is to help her get through this as well.
“Welcome class. I am Professor Noah, and I will be helping you through death. We talk about why death happens, how it happens, what goes on within the living world, the afterlife, feelings, and the best ways to cope with any emotions that come up during death,” the Dealing with Death professor introduced. “How about we go around, if you want to share, raise your hand and tell us why you’re here. What’s your name? What happened?”
Adora’s eyes widened shocked. That feels so sensitive, why would anyone want to share that, is that normal?
A hand is raised quickly and a small girl stands. She’s short, looks like she died young, with bright blue eyes and blonde hair and a strong loud voice. “My name is Abigail. I work with children and recently had a child die from parental abuse. It was very hard and she was a very sweet girl,”
“Thank you Abigail for sharing, anyone else?”
There’s a silence in the room as everyone looks around. Another one stands up. A man, “My name is Addon. I’m a cupid but…My clients. They deal with partners dying and dying because of who they love and…I feel responsible sometimes,”
“Thank you, Addon, we understand, but know, it is not your fault,”
Adora takes a deep breath. It feels more normal to share her experience now. So she raises her hand before slowly standing. “H-hello. I am Adora, I was assigned this class because my patient committed suicide. And it’s been very conflicting to deal with,”
“That’s very hard to deal with Adora. Thank you for sharing,” Professor Noah responds. The rest of the class goes on with people going on about why they are in this class and it makes Adora feel a lot less alone. She smiles softly as she leaves the class.
It was the last class of the day. Human Angel Safety. So far, the classes and teachers have been nice. Adora enters the building and takes a seat looking around to her classmates. She sees the cupid from before and waves him over.
“Hi, I’m Adora, we share the Dealing with Death class,” she says smiling.
As he introduced in the last class, Addon the cupid, sat next to her. “Hey. I’m Addon. You’re a new angel, yeah?”
“Yeah, I’m still pretty new, only been dead a couple of centuries, guardian only a few years. What about you?”
“Oh me? I’m old. I died in Roman times, early Rome. I became a cupid in the Republican Rome era. It was a fun time to work,” he says.
“That's cool. Hm, Cupid, I've only run into you guys once. You seem a lot nicer than those guys were though. They were a bit,” Adora pauses. She doesn't want to insult Addon's coworkers
“Uptight?”
“Yeah, a bit,” she agrees
The professor for Human Angel Safety walks in stopping their conversation. She was a tall lady, with grey hair in a braid, glasses, and small wings.
“Welcome students to my class. I am Professor Adlay. My class will be the most important class you may ever have in your angelhood. I do not take jokes lightly. Our safety is of utmost importance as are humans. If you cannot handle that take the F now and get out,” the professor starts off. Her voice is sharp sounding like nails on a chalkboard.
It frightens Adora as she tenses in her seat. Addon smiles softly over to her. She tries to smile back ignoring the nerves wracking over her.
“We will start with the materials you will need for my class,” Professor Adlay started again. She began listing books along with how she expects everyone to have a fresh quill, ink, and paper every day.
Once class got out and Adora was out she took a deep breath. Addon held her hand softly looking into her eye.
“It'll be okay, we can help each other,” he assured her.
“Yeah, though I don't know how much help I can be to you,” she responds looking down.
“Tons Adora. You're a guardian angel, I don't know that stuff. Besides, sometimes us oldies forget stuff y'know,” Addon chuckles smiling.
Adora smiles nodding, “Of course, we'll help each other”

TW: Suicide, christianity, self harm
The next day Adora looks over the guardian requests and she notices one for a trans man. Adora remembers trans being someone who was born as the wrong gender, they face a lot of harassment for finding their true selves. It seems like the paper has been waiting for someone for a while. Without a second thought, Adora grabs the page reading it through.
“Job Wanted Posted XxXx Female Trans Name(s): Macey, Marlo Suffers from body dysphoria, depression, suicidal ideation Upper level”
It’s an upper-level job but no one has taken it. There are plenty of upper-level angels, actually, there are not a lot of lower-level angels as it’s rare for someone to decide to become one and continue pass training. Adora is certain that she will be allowed the job since no other angels have taken it so far.
Walking up to Alice to have the role checked she skimmed it and denied her.
“What?!?” Adora said shocked.
“This job is for upper angels Adora, you can’t handle it,”
“I can I swear. And no one else is taking it! This person needs help.” Adora begs.
“You can’t jump into big projects before you’re ready. It will just lead to failure. If you want I can push her to priority but-” Alice continues dismissively but Adora cuts her off.
“Her? They go by him? Will the other angels even help if they don’t respect his decisions?” Adora scolds her eye glowing fiercely.
Alice looks up from the sheet, seemingly sizing Adora up. “If this mission fails?”
“It won’t fail, I promise,” Adora says.
“But if you do fail, you will take a year off, and have to write a report on why you don’t haggle jobs along with your jobs report,” Alice says writing down her approval.
“Yes ma’am,” Adora says smiling.
She’s given the job location and sets off. Adora was shocked to find a large home and her target person had long brown hair. He was wearing some pyjama pants and a tank top that flattened his mid-sized chest, a binder. His arms were covered with red scars, self-inflicted she’s sure.
Well, Adora can see the first solution, he has to cut his hair. Why is it so long? Adora looks around the room and sees a pair of scissors lying on the floor. His room is messy too, she could probably help him with that too. Adora has the scissors glint catch Marlo’s eye and he looks over from his crouch on the bed.
Grabbing the scissors he turns it back and forth in his hands. Listening close to outside his room Adora can tell he’s thinking hard. She smiles excited about his transformation but before she can think he begins cutting open the scars on his arm.
“NO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!” she yells out holding onto his arms.
He feels a slight warmth but nothing else continuing, letting the blood drip down his skin. Adora panics turning Marlo’s attention to the first aid kit underneath his bed. He sighs softly setting the scissors down before cleaning up the cuts.
“That wasn’t supposed to happen. You were supposed to cut your hair. Your hair!” she screams worried watching him intently.
Marlo lays back down on his bed covering his face. He huffs and pulls off his binder stretching his ribs and arms. “Shitty day, shitty body,” he mutters before lying down and falling asleep.
Asleep? How can he fall asleep at a time like this? He just sliced open his skin and he’s acting like nothing happened? Adora is so confused, but she decides to look at his past and relationships a bit more while he sleeps.
He has a dad. No mom, she died when he was young and was a church girl. His father is a church person too, high belief in Christianity. Marlo has yet to tell his dad about being trans, his name, or his pronouns but he uses them online. Marlo has a couple of friends online, they’re a bit unstable as well though and not always available. He’s in his final year of high school at least but Adora doesn’t think that will be the end of her mission this time.
How should she approach this case? It’s a lot harder than last time, naturally as it’s for upper-level angels. His haircut was supposed to help him but that didn’t work out. She took a peek inside his closet to see many blouses and dresses. More masculine clothes would help out too but how could he get them? Well either way Marlo was sleeping in filth and needed some serious help cleaning his room.
Angels can’t do much-moving things around, less humans will get suspicious, so she begins little by little. Things that would be hard to notice if you weren’t a master memoriser. Adora also brings in one of his dad’s shirts, lying on the closet floor among many other clothes.
In the morning Marlo gets up groaning and stretching. He looks down at the floor, barely less cluttered than before filling him with dread. Heading to the closet he grabs the first thing, a navy blue dress. Adora watches confused as Marlo changes into the blue dress rather than the shirt on the floor but she has no time to think as Marlo is already leaving the room.
She hurries after him down the stairs and into the kitchen. It was nice and full, big and bright. He grabs a granola bar and his backpack leaving the house in a hurry. Balancing the granola bar in his mouth and the backpack on his shoulder Marlo pulls out a big black hoody pulling it on.
Adora smiles, this hides his figure a lot more than that dress, and it hides his arms. It must be a favourite if it’s in his backpack she guesses. Marlo waits down the street with some other students keeping his head down. They must be waiting for the bus, Adora scans the crowd of students and surrounding houses. The neighbourhood was good, full of nice houses and kids who mind their own business.
The bus arrives and at school, Adora notices that Marlo hasn’t told anyone he’s trans. He meets up with two friends once off the bus, a girl named Lynne and a boy named Olive. They’re twins.
“Macey, how are you? I can’t believe the amount of homework they saddled us with!” Lynne shouts over as he walks to the two.
“I’m fine, I’m just tired, I was up working it all night,” he hums out.
“I know right, I wanna get out and live my life! I’m a senior now I’m supposed to be going out and having fun not staying in all night with homework!” she responds ecstatic to have her friend now. Lynne is a standard pretty, she has long blonde hair she puts up in a high ponytail. She has bright green eyes that beam with her even brighter smile.
“You’re a senior in high school, not college, chill out. You still have plenty of time to have fun and party,” said her fraternal twin Olive. Olive’s hair, though blonde had a dirtier tint to it. His green eyes were bright but kind and not as intimidating.
Lynne rolls her eyes and sits down chatting with Marlo until the first bell rings. Marlo and Olive head to Science for their first class. Adora watches and listens closely towards the other students when Marlo takes his seat. There are no outward remarks that stand out to her right away.
Later on, after lunch with Lynne and Olive, Marlo goes to PE. He enters the ladies' locker room and Adora follows. After taking off the hoodie Adora notices snickering behind Marlo. He grits his teeth and finishes changing out as fast as he can.
“Why would she mutilate herself like that? Bless her heart,” one of the girls says from the locker room before Adora allows out Marlo.
“Stupid girls, stupid school, stupid life,” Marlo mutters under his breath starting the laps. He wraps his arms around his chest tightly trying to his the scars somewhat, though it was useless.
The rest of the school day went by with little to say: some snide remarks here and there but nothing like with Theo. Before going inside Marlo takes off his hoody shoving it back into his backpack.
Adora hasn’t given up, she’s certain she’ll be able to find a way to help Marlo. Some of the girls at his school have short hair, like really short hair, She wonders if it’s possible to give Marlo one of those. How to get him a short haircut was the problem though, he can’t cut his hair, and she can’t do it herself without repercussions.
Days pass as Adora follows Marlo around. She tries her best to help him out, lying around magazines with short haircuts. That caused him to get yelled at by his father. Having him reach out to his online friends, helped a bit but Marlo can’t rely on online friends only. Bringing out his binder more, bruised his ribs.
Adora was at her wit’s end trying to figure out what to do. Nearly every night Marlo is self-harming and Adora is struggling to keep him safe. At home, Marlo was often alone or being yelled at by his father. At school, Marlo is being teased by other girls. His school friends provide support too but Marlo has started distancing himself from them no matter how much Adora tries to guide him towards them.
“You okay Macey?” Lynne asks. “You’ve seemed far away lately,”
Marlo winces hearing that name. “Yeah I’m fine, I’ve just been thinking a lot recently,”
“Well, you can tell us anything! We’ll always be your friend,” Lynne responded gently grasping onto Marlo’s hand.
Adora smiles bright hoping Marlo tells them. She emits energy to help the twins feel Maro needs support.
“If you need help, we’ll be here too. You don’t have to suffer silently.” Oliver adds.
Marlo mulls over his thoughts as Adora encourages him to share. “You’d stay my friend no matter what?”
“Of course, I mean unless you’re a killer or something,” Lynne giggles.
“Even if it goes against your religion,” Marlo mutters.
“What do you mean? We go to church together! What are you talking about,” Lynne asks.
Marlo fidgets avoiding eye contact. The twins watch glancing at each other for a second. Adora has seen what amazing friends Lynne and Oliver are just throughout these past few days and lays her hand on Marlo’s shoulder for comfort. “I think…no, I know. I know I’m trans. I’m a boy,” he says quickly forming the words.
Lynne and Oliver stared at him for a second before uncomfortably shifting in their seats. “Are you sure, I mean, we’ve all had thoughts like that before. I think you’re just having a test from God.” Oliver says.
“Oh yeah, totally, it’s just a test! You’ll grow out of it soon with enough faith Macey don’t worry. We can do a prayer group together if you want.” Lynne adds smiling brightly.
Marlo stays silent before shaking his head. “Oh thanks, I’ll be fine,” he says before getting up and leaving the table.
Adora is shocked staring at the twins. How could they say it was a test, God does not make tests like these. She quickly follows Marlo going to his next class silently. She tries comforting him but it seems to be pointless.
The rest of the day Marlo can’t stop fidgeting. He’s picking at his hoodie, at his skin, his hair. He’s looking back and forth between people. Adora has a bad feeling but doesn’t know how to stop it. On the way home, Marlo is quick to leave the bus and run inside.
He doesn’t take his hoodie like usual before going to his room. Pulling out his phone he messages his online friends a small ‘i love you’ before tossing his phone down.
“God please forgive me for I have sinned,” Marlo begins speaking grabbing his scissors.
“No no no! You’ve done good! You’ve done good Marlo” Adora cries out grabbing his hand.
A sigh escaped his lips continuing his prayer, “if this is a test I’m sorry for failing. I’m sorry for sinning, I’m sorry for not believing,” Marlo begins cutting up his arm opening scars and losing blood.
“No! Marlo no, please! Don’t do this!”
Falling to his knees Marlo takes the scissors to his hair. He cuts it shakily right underneath his ear. Blood is smeared and stained on his skin and hair. Marlo smiles into the mirror slicing open his neck, crying, as he waits for his last breath.
“Marlo please,” Adora cries holding onto him, holding him close. “You’re such a nice boy. You don’t deserve this. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry I failed you. I’m sorry,” she sobs and gasps petting his new short hair as it becomes crusty.
Marlo’s spirit stands from his body as he looks down. "Who are you?"
AU: Before the heroes find out about Eri and her situation Shigaraki decides to intervene by kidnapping Eri to raise her in the league.
The leader of the League of Villains walks through the make of the Shie Hissaki base. They enter a conference room and him and Overhaul begin discussing collaboration possibilities.
"And you're making Quirk removal bullets?" he questions.
"Yes," Overhaul responds.
Shigaraki silently nods when the twos' attention is draw towards the small panting at the door.
A small girl is in the door holding her sides as she catches her breathe.
Overhaul raises from his chair glaring at the child for interrupting. "ERI!" he shouts.
She flinches looking up at him. Her red eyes remind the Leagues leader of himself when he was younger. They were wide and filled with fear. As though she believed she was the worst person in the world.
Shigaraki looks at the child examining her. Long silver hair, a large horn sprouting from her forehead, presumably her quirk. She was dressed in a long raggedy white dress and covered in bandages. He wonders what the bandages are covering.
"Why didn't you keep her in her room. You useless man!" Overhaul yells now turning his anger to the assistant in charge of watching the girl who quickly ran in after her. Overhaul removes his glove causing the small girl to flinch running away from the door as he kills the assistant with his quirk.
Shigaraki watches Overhaul silently before realizing the small red eyes watching him. He looks over to the girl watching him inching forward every now and then.
"Eri, what are you doing in here!" Overhaul snaps. She jumps turning to him silently. Eri refuses to answer him.
A couple weeks pass and Shigaraki can't get the fearful red eyes out of his mind.
"Kurogiri, we need to go to Shie Hissaki," He calls out.
"Why do we need to go back there?" Toga calls out pouting.
"Because we need to take that girl. She's in trouble," He explains getting up.
"There's a girl there?" Toga questions.
Shigaraki nods silently, "Dabi and Toga, you're coming with me, Kurogiri just bring us there and back"
"Why are we coming with?" Dabi asks glaring at his leader.
"Because we may need your quirks. Now let's do this quickly," Shigaraki says.
Groaning annoyed Dabi and Toga follow Shigaraki as Kurogiri transports them to Overhaul's headquarters.
"Stay in the shadows as much you can," Shigaraki says as they begin walking.
It didn't take long before they heard quiet sobs behind a door. Shigaraki slowly opens it to see the child crying in her bed shaking.
Hearing the door open Eri looks up gasping scared.
Toga gasps softly smiling, "she's so cute!" she squeals.
"Shhh!" Dabi scolds as Shigaraki slowly walks forward to the girl.
"Calm down, we won't hurt you. We want to get you out of here. Okay?" he says, voice soft to try and ease the girl's mind.
Eri pauses before looking past Shigaraki to his two companions before hearing a shot.
"The league of villains are in Eri's room!" Shouts someone.
"Shit," Shigaraki mumbles before scooping up the small kid and calling Kurogiri in to get them.
As Kurogiri appears Shigaraki and Toga goes through. Dabi lights up the doorway to Eri's room before following the two through.
Eri shakes gasping softly as she's gently set down on the LOV's floor. "W-where am I?" she questions.
"We're going to take care of you now so that you don't get hurt," Shigaraki responds grabbing a bag of essentials in case the Shie Hissaki goes to their base.
A week later Eri is calming down again and more comfortable around all of the League. Especially Shigaraki.
Shigaraki does his best to make Eri both happy and healing. After moving to a new hideout Shigaraki gently takes of Eri's bandages. The villains surrounding watching Eri get her bandages taken off gasp softly.
"What did he do to you?" Shigaraki says darkly. Seeing so many scars on this little girl fills him with rage.
"You poor girl," Dabi mutters looking down at her.
Eri tears up staring at the scars and her arms and legs.
"Don't cry, it's not your fault," Shigaraki says softly.
Through the days' everyone from the League of Villians finds ways to bond with Eri, doing their best to give her a better childhood than them.
Spinner plays card games and checkers mostly with Eri.
Dabi does whatever Eri wants. He wants to make sure she is as happy as possible. Usually, they end up playing dress-up and having Tea parties.
Toga always joins them in but she also gives Eri makeovers and draws with her.
Kurogiri is less of a kid person. Eri usually ends up helping him cook.
Twice does his best to play with Eri but he struggles to be around the child as he's scared of either hurting or scaring her.
Mr. Compress and Eri make many plays and musicals to show off to the rest of the league.
Finally, Shigaraki does everything with Eri. He plays dress-up, does her hair, cook and bak with her, even includes her in his plans and let's her help.
I cosplayed Eri again. I love her pre rescue look
Trigger warnings: Christianity, queer harassment
Xander used to be Alexander, but he’s a disgrace. He’s a fallen angel, a fallen cupid. But he’s not bad. He just didn’t agree. Xander spends his days roaming the human world, watching it evolve. He’s been here watching them evolve for centuries now, he hasn’t kept count. He watched them evolve before though too, when he worked for God. When he was a Cupid, an angel of love.
Xander kept up with the human trends, he kept a lustful outfit with reds and black. A shaggy wolf cut ending around his shoulder of black hair and pink strands framing his face. When he was hidden in his angel form his wings were out, large and white with rainbow hearts on the tip of the feathers. They were worn and rough from his fall. His eyes are a soft pink like aphrodisiacs, and a third eye is placed on top of his forehead, scarred, that sees relationships and futures. A special power only a few have when born, and it cannot be taken away. Xander often spends nights among humans in nightclubs with his wings hidden and his third eye closed in order to keep an eye on his community and to keep them safe.
All other powers were stripped from him when he fell. When he disgraced God. When he asked too many questions. But what else was he supposed to do when he continued to see the mistreatment of people they made? The people they made, the people who are harmed because of the people they love in the name of God. In the name of sin. Is it fair to let these people continue this abuse against queers because they believe it’s wrong? Because they believe they should pass the judgment of God?
Xander brought these concerns to God, wanting to help the people he truly feels his work is devoted to. God ignored his concerns though, he gave humans free will and they shall do as they please with it. They will have their judgement come soon enough. He couldn’t let it go though. Xander took all the queer jobs and worked hard, bending rules, to keep them safe and happy.
Word got around and Xander lost his bow. God offered retraining to keep his job but he broke. Xander broke and yelled.
“How can you allow them to do this? It’s disgusting, and to sit back and allow people to harm someone else just because of free will makes you a lousy ruler. Their judgement day may come but someone needs to protect the queers, you made them how they are. What happened to love thy neighbour? Don’t you love all your children the same? How can you let them die, how can you let them be abused and assaulted and murdered because of how you made them!” Xander yelled shaking with rage.
God did not take that well and banished Xander taking his powers and throwing him to Earth. He didn’t mind though, he spent his time wandering and watching his people. Watching the lovers. Helping them when he could such as protests and keeping gay bars safe.
Xander was in his hidden form on a bench watching people walk by smiling softly. The fight is still going but in America, the place where he mostly resides, gay marriage is legalized. There’s much more to do still but it’s better than before.
Out of the corner of his eye, Xander sees some wings. He hasn’t talked with another angel since he was banished. Xander looked over and recognized her as one of the new guardian angels, he couldn’t remember her name and never bothered to pay attention to God’s workers now. He has no respect for God anymore but many of their workers have no idea what they do and believe.
“Hello, uhm I don’t think I’ve met you before?” she says.
“Probably not, I don’t work for God. I’m fallen.” Xander says watching her curiously.
“Fallen? You used to be an angel?”
“Yes, I used to be a cupid. Not anymore. They didn’t like how I saw things. How I did things”
“You did things differently?”, Adora crinkles her brows. Of course, she had heard of fallen angels and how they were cursed because they did things differently. It was a lesson in her schooling. It was rare though, the main one being Satan whose name was not allowed to be spoken. It’s taboo to talk about any fallen angel.
“Of course, I want to protect people. They didn’t care about the effects their followers had on others. ‘Oh they’ll get their punishment when their time comes’ they said. I think it’s bullshit,” Xander rants.
“What effects I’ve been having some trouble with the other angels. They won’t explain some things to me. I’ve noticed how tensions here have been high, because of the gays. I was wondering if you knew what that was about. No one else will tell me,” Adora explains softly, hoping to finally understand all the hostility going around,
“Some Christians,” he responds drawing out the word as though it was poison in his mouth, “believe that people in the LGBT community are against God. And they decide to take it into their own hands by killing and torturing them,”
Adora’s wings puff in surprise at that statement. Her eyes well up with tears, only her left eye visible. A bright golden colour left her distressed as she silently cried thinking about all the people lost to hatred.
“Well, we have to do something, right? Surely-”
“They won’t do anything” he cuts her off. “You shouldn’t try, you’ll fall too,”
“But that’s not right! They’re being hurt, they’re being killed!”
“I know. But God won’t do anything and if you get in their way, and break their rules you’ll pay for it,” Xander responds sternly. He looks at the new angel and his gaze softens. She truly wants to help it seems, but he can’t trust her until she proves herself.
Adora huffs wiping the dried tears off her face and flies back to her dorm. Her head hurts with conflict. Everything he has said matches up. And everything she has read and known shows that fallen angels are bad, and they say and do bad things against God, but is that the case?
Adora scrambles to the bookcase grabbing everything she can find that might give her answers. She spends hours reading them, looking for any clue on what to believe, what’s right or wrong in this situation. How to help. Anything!
Adora falls asleep in her pile of books leaving her roommates to find her, curious and concerned. They recognised one of the books on fallen angels and hoped she had not begun talking to him. When somebody asks too many questions only bad things can happen, that is the lesson many angels have learned. They hope Adora will learn it soon too.
CW: Christianity, Death,
As the weeks go by Adora gets used to the new routine of her classes and gets closer with her classmates. By far, her favourite teacher is Mr. Noah but, she still wants to talk to Professor Adlay about retiring. After learning about her past she’s been mixed up, Adora’s been scared to tell anyone what she knows. She doesn’t want to get pushed to retire when she’s just begun.
Sighing Adora enters the Human Angel Safety classroom and takes her seat. Professor Adlay was already at her desk organising the days' lesson. Adora glances over the board before tensing. They’re learning about retirement today. How does that connect to Human Angel Safety? Why are they learning about retirement? Adora clenches her hands together and looks down at her lap scared. What if they know what she knows and want her to retire? What if they think she’s not strong enough?
“Hey Adora, hm we’re learning about retiring today huh? You seem a little tense? Everything okay?” Addon says sitting beside her like every day.
“Yeah, I’m okay. I’m just, I don’t know what to think of todays lesson plan. Isn’t retirement like a big thing? Why is it in this class?”
“Well, I guess we’ll find out won’t we?” Addon laughs half heartedly pulling out his notes.
“Welcome class, today we will be learning about retirement in angels. Now I’ve noticed some rumours going around that I’m retire. And I am so you all can stop the whispers. Retirement happens when a worker is no longer able to complete their duties as a worker for a variety of reasons. The most common reason for retirement is because people get bored of the routine now a days, to those people I say disgrace. You choose this route you stay by it til the end,”
The whole class is shocked watching Professor Adlay. Everyone hangs onto her words silently. Adora stays silent with her head down, but she clings to every word just like the others.
“Other reasons are minor infractions that are not corrected through classes. These include falling in love with humans, interfering with the human world too much, starting fights, and ignoring jobs,” Professor Adlay continues.
Adora looks up quickly. She didn’t mention graves, or past lives. Why didn’t she mention them? Addon glances at Adora confused, who smiles softly back. The lesson continues on talking in depth about infractions and how retirement happens and the effects of it. The Human Angel Safety class always goes by so quickly with how much Professor Adlay talks. Soon enough everyone else is packing up the notes whilst Adora brews in her seat.
“You coming Adora?” Addon asked, looking at her with concern.
“I’m gonna stay back and talk to Professor Adlay for a bit. Don’t wait up for me, it’s alright,” Adora says smiling bright to hide the fear she’s feeling.
Addon furrows his brows but nods before saying his goodbyes and leaving. Once the class has dispersed Adora gathers her courage in a breathe and walks up to her Professor.
“Hello, Professor Adlay,” Adora says softly. Even though Adora was about a head taller than the teacher the aura she gave off made her feel meek and terrified.
“Hello,” Professor Adlay says before standing to meet with Adora, “you’re Adora, right? What can I help you with. Did you struggle with today’s lesson?”
Adora was taken aback by her soft nature. In every lesson she seems so cold and rigid but right now she seems attentive and caring. “Not exactly. In your lesson plan. You said there were only five ways to retire: getting bored, falling in love with a human, too much interference, fights, and not taking jobs?”
“That’s correct, what about it?”
“What about remembering your past?” Adora asked softly.
Professor Adlay looked at Adora quizzically. “Knowing your past? Workers don’t know their past, they don’t have a past,” she says sternly.
“Don’t you remember your past when you find your grave though? I’ve been told that at least. And I was told that most angels don’t keep working afterwords. So I was just curious if that was true and why you would skip that?” Adora continued softly holding onto her dress tightly.
“Who’s telling you such things? Why are they telling you such things?” she asks, her voice turning sour and accusatory.
“Well, I don’t know, I heard it around. Because of the rumours. I was just wondering if it was true Professor,”
“You’re not a good liar Adora. Most angels retire after finding out about their past, but it’s not something you should seek out. That’s why it’s not in the lesson plan. So how did you find out?”
“I was taking a walk when I found my grave. I was just worried that I would be pushed to do something. But I still want to be a guardian angel, I still want to help people. I just want to figure some stuff out. I’m sorry Professor,’ Adora undertones.
“Don’t worry, I see potential in you. Not every angel that remembers retires. Sometimes it helps them grow as an angel. And you will grow to become a great angel. You have a strong dedication and seriousness in class. I see it,” Professor Adlay says setting a hand ontop of Adoras’.
“Thank you, Professor,” Adora says nodding her goodbyes before leaving.
