Never thought about how much of a dick move that is

he made his wife dress up as his coworker. he wrote a script and then directed it where his actual, real-life wife put on a wig to look like the co-worker the world was expecting him to date. and he got. away with it.

Triangle is so important to me cuz what the fuck do you mean they’re platonic work partners but they find each other in every universe? You thought sad boy Mulder from abduction arc was unhinged? You are not prepared for Scully when Mulder hasn’t called her in 12 hours. SHE PULLS A GUN ON SPENDER IIRC or at least threatens to, we get to see gillian anderson dressed to the 9s in 1940s fashion and then the fact that Scully canonically kisses skinner before Mulder and the poor man is just flabbergasted. And then the end, when Scully is convinced Mulder is delusional and so on drugs that he doesn’t know what he saying/doesnt mean it. OH BROTHER?!?!?

What do you think their relationship was like the few days after that episode, did Mulder remember saying that? Did Scully remember him saying that everytime she walked into his hospital room and when he walked through the door at work for their shitty season 6 background checks?

Mulder knew he was in love with Scully by S2 and he stopped trying to deny it (to himself at least) by S4. And THAT, my friends, is why S4 hits different.

I wish i could magically know if i like girls or not

So my parents used to watch the show way back when it was airing and they were married and all that and a few weeks ago my mom asked if i wanted to watch and episode with her. I said sure and put on home; And while i’m sitting there like “aw i love the scene where scully tells mulder he’d lapse into catatonic shock with out his cell phone” my mom is literally hiding under her blanket

I know a lot of people have X-Files episodes that scared them or freaked them out, and I probably would feel the same way if I saw those scenes in a movie.

My brain refuses to get scared watching this show. My tolerance for scary/gory/creepy is pretty much infinite. It’s all just background for whatever the world’s most adorable FBI Agents are doing.

If Mulder and Scully are on screen, I’m just focusing on how cute they are. If they’re not on screen, I’m thinking about how cute they were in the previous scene.

I’m watching, I follow the plot, but I am filtering everything through my love of the characters.

Scully constantly gets her left and right confused. Not when shes autopsying, thats the only time she actually knows it, but shes terrible at giving and taking directions. She’ll look at a map and tell Mulder to turn right only to realize three miles later that they were supposed to go left. Mulder will tell her the paper she’s looking for is in the pile on her left and she only looks in the right stack 1 in 3 times

In 2002 I went through Gossamer and saved a bunch of my favorite XF fanfics. Some I saved years before, before they were pulled from the archives. If I were going to introduce someone to the world of XF fanfiction - one of the most insanely prolific fandoms ever (not everything - not even a tiny percentage of the good stuff - is posted at ff.net or ao3) -  these are some of the ones I’d choose. This list is by no means exhaustive; some stories were lost to time, some were pulled and I will respect the author’s wishes and won’t repost them even if I have the saved files.  I’m including links to the ones still archived at Gossamer and titles/authors of the others so you can hunt them down if you so choose via wayback machine.

New Chapter of my canon divergent Emily fic is UP

(Basically what if they’d fucked up and Scully was pregnant with Emily after being returned to dc after her abduction in season 2)

That gif of GA going around talking about how she lied about her age when auditioning for scully bc they don't let 24 yos be doctor-fbi agents made me think about an au of TXF where you lean into the total babyface thing and have Scully be this wunderkind prodigy doctor who maybe even made the news and skipped grades and went to college at 15 and med school at 18/19 and really did finish her residency at 24/25.... It would add a whole new dimension to her choice to switch to pathology over cardio thoracic surgery and also to leave private practice for the FBI. Like, a whole magnitude bigger of the 'you're a g-d gifted prodigy and you choose to do this? Not save living patients? Throw away all your hard work to be a field agent?' and then to compound the issue, she chooses to flame out into fringe obscurity with that slacker alien nut Mulder.

Really lean into the Jodie Foster character parallels (Clarice Starling and Ellie Arroway).

Also the whole triumph of free will or rebellion against the Obligations Of Genius. Also somewhat of a Mulder parallel except he had a lot of outside forces moving him away from the things that he was gifted at but were destructive for him, so idk

I feel like someone mentioned this idea already actually, @unremarkablehouse maybe? But just seconding that yes aus digging into prodigy Scully would be really interesting! 👀

Okay so after kind of a long break cuz i felt like i burned through most of season 8 waiting for Mulder to get back i just started watching s08e19 Alone. Here are my thoughts

Aaaaahhhhh i love Dogget he’s grown on me so much. He and Scully actually care about each other as friends

Mulder taking an active role in Scully’s pregnancy after being justifiably distant since he’d been returned makes me melt

“Agent doggets a big boy, he can tale care of himself. You have to worry about the little boy. Little girl? Little boy? Or little girl?” AH BARK BARK

No dogget’s spent too much time with Scully he’s touching unidentified goup with his bare hands

Dad!skinner telling Scully she’s not aloud into the office. Skinner acting like Mulder and Scully are the two children he never wanted but begrudgingly loves anyway is my everything

The season one dynamic is so important to me because you watch the first episode and you’re like “they’re gonna bone” even though they don’t really trust each other and its just this first time field agent who knows exactly what shes doing in theory but has never actually experienced any if this and this vetted agent who was renown for his profiles with violent crimes who every just thinks is crazy but the take each other so seriously from the get go and why the fuck are they standing that close to each other and then at the end of the season (which i estimate to be about a years worth of time) scully, who holds her job and success over everything else, is ready to lose her job to protect Mulder and he is mostly ready to give up the xfiles (in name atleast, you cant really have mulder without the xfiles) for the same reason.

They’re not friends, they’re not coworkers, they’re not romantically or sexual invoved they are a secret fifth thing

Okay so people did see it:

BASICALLY red-green color blind means you either see red as green or green as red, which we all know right? (I had to learn extensively about this in my biology class, because what is biology class if not a way to help me understand the x-files) obviously, this never changes, it cant just flip one day, and yet fox mulder is continuously shown to be able to tell the difference between red human blood and green “alien blood” this is shown in the erlenmeyer flask, colony, and nisei just to name a few examples. So clearly Mulder is not red-green color blind, right, the writers messed up, so the real question is what is the canon explanation.

I have two: either mulder was so out of his mind with worry for scully that he needed to ask the gunmen about that theory and just says that cuz its the first thing that pops into his head

He fell asleep while he was supposed to be watching the tapes and didn’t want them to know ig

Anyway I wrote a wetwired fanfic if Mulder wasn’t “colorblind” because i feel very passionately about it

Personally I’m angst lover and I love the moments where angst forces emotion from characters. They couldn’t have killed Scully and we all knew that, but there was something about watching Mulder not know that is so txf. It’s so “he wants to believe” that she will get better while while still not knowing how exactly that is possible and her being completely convinced (after Momento Mori) that she will be dying and, “no Mulder don’t fight me in this, it’s a fact” that is just so in line with the entirety of the show. And while I’ve also not seen a lot of fics where Scully doesn’t get cancer I also think that a lot of caner arc fics dont get a lot of love. I understand people sometimes just want to read something feel-good and cute but don’t knock the emotional catharsis of watching two people who are madly in comfort each other through the fact that they are about to be ripped apart until you try it.

Y’all should go read “I Never Got Over Those Blue Eyes (I See Them Everywhere)” by HeavyOnTheTragedy on AO3 because shameless self promotion

no no you guys don't get it. the x files cancer arc was, excuse the pun, a fucking white whale of a tv plotline that would not have worked nearly as well on literally any other show. it was a complete hail mary. the writers' room nearly didn't make it happen because they were worried it would fall too deeply into soap opera territory. and on any other show, it would! but the x files is about four key things: mistrust in the government, faith in both science and the otherworldly, building a life around trauma, and the fine line between love and codependency. it is the only show where the entirety of this situation- a government experiment on an unwilling young catholic leads to a terminal illness that is counteracted by a literal scientific miracle in the eleventh hour due to her partner's refusal to accept her impending death- could both happen at all and happen well. none of the themes in the cancer arc were new to txf at all. they'd all been lurking, to some extent, in the background since the pilot. the cancer arc wasn't merely milking a left-field catastrophe for the drama, it shoved the overarching themes of the show to the front and said look. look what these people are to each other. look how impossible it is to face the darkness alone. regardless of when the plotline was conceived, it was always going to happen. it was the only way the story could have ever gone. they were always doomed from the beginning
