The cozy studio was bathed in warm light, designed almost as if to feel like a welcoming living room. Two plush chairs faced each other, separated by a low coffee table adorned with a few carefully placed books and a small vase of fresh flowers. Everything about the space was crafted to exude intimacy and warmth, inviting open conversation.
Drew Starkey entered the room first, his usual calm confidence mingled with a tinge of nervous energy. He smoothed his shirt absentmindedly and scanned the setup, trying to ground himself in the moment. He was used to being in front of cameras, but this felt different. This wasnât just about promoting a project or answering rapid-fire questions on a press junket. This was you.
âHello,â Drew started, a smile gracing his features as he took in the fact that he was sitting right in front of his number one celebrity crush. His hand hovered awkwardly in a small wave, as if he couldnât believe this was real.
âHi,â you said back, a giggle falling past your lips when you noticed his sheepish look. âNice to meet you.â
âNice to meet you too,â he said, his voice just a little higher than usual. Drew cleared his throat, laughing at himself, which made you laugh too. âSorry, Iâm⊠a little nervous.â
âOh, donât be,â you reassured him with a warm smile. âI promise, I donât bite.â
âGood to know.â He chuckled, his shoulders relaxing slightly. âHow are you doing?â
âIâm great, thank you. What about you?â
âPretty good, canât complain.â A laugh bubbled out of him, and subsequently, you. The way he rubbed the back of his neck made you think he was still pinching himself that this was happening.
The cameras rolled, capturing the easy charm and immediate chemistry between the two of you.Â
Drewâs grin widened as he began. âFirst of all, let me just sayâIâm completely starstruck right now. I mean, the way you completely own every role you take on... itâs incredible.â
Your eyes widened in surprise, a bashful laugh escaping as you waved off the compliment. âOh, stop it. Youâre making me blush!â
âIâm serious,â he pressed, leaning forward slightly. âYouâre like⊠the blueprint. If I ever get even halfway to where you are, Iâll consider myself lucky.â
âWell, now youâre just flattering me,â you said, your voice teasing but your cheeks undeniably warm. âBut thank you, thatâs so sweet. And honestly, youâre being way too hard on yourself. Youâre incredible in Queer. Youâve got this natural charm that just lights up the screen.â
âNatural charm, huh?â He smirked, pretending to preen, which made you laugh again. âIâll take that.â
âGood,â you replied, smiling. âYou should, because itâs true.â
Drewâs gaze softened, the teasing giving way to something more earnest. âThat means a lot, really. Especially coming from you. Youâre like⊠Hollywood royalty to many.â
You tilted your head, a playful smirk tugging at your lips. âTo many, huh? And are you part of this many?â
Drewâs eyes widened, and he laughed, a little caught off guard. âOh, absolutely. Iâve got a lifetime membership to the fan club.â
âGood to know,â you teased, crossing your legs and leaning back in your chair with an air of mock superiority. âIâll have to start charging you membership fees.â
âTotally worth it,â he shot back, his grin widening.
âWell, thank you,â you said with a soft laugh, âSo, weâve both got some things in common, which I think is pretty cool.â
âLike working with Daniel Craig?â he asked.
âYes! Honestly, I still reminisce about our time on set⊠heâs genuinely incredible, isnât he?â
âHe is, yeah. I found myself just admiring him and sort of forgetting I had to act too. Heâs just⊠heâs on another level, for sure.â
âDanielâs a master of his craft⊠Most of my scenes as Paloma in No Time To Die were with him, and at first I was so nervous because, like, what if I messed up in front of the Daniel Craig?â Drew let out a laugh at your words, and you couldnât help but laugh too. âBut when he noticed I was nervous he reassured me that it was all good. Heâs just the best.â
âYouâve worked with so many high-profile actors.â You nod slightly at his words, as if it were the most common thing in the world. âAre you always nervous when meeting them, or was it just a Daniel thing?â
âIt wasnât just Daniel, no, but I think it depends. For example, when I did Oppenheimer with Cillian Murphy, for some reason I felt more relaxed⊠even though I had some nude scenes with him.â
âNude scenes just make you connect, donât they?â he joked, leaning back with a sly grin.
âThey do, actually,â you replied, leaning into the banter. âYouâd think theyâd be worse, but honestly, with the amount of seriousness and concentration they take, itâs like you donât have time to be nervous.â
âYou clearly pulled it off flawlessly,â Drew said with mock solemnity.Â
âYou did too in Queer.â You compliment him, âI watched it a few days ago, and the chemistry you had with Daniel was just off the charts.â
Drewâs face lit up, a mix of pride and bashfulness crossing his features. âDanielâs an amazing scene partner. He really made it easy for me to tap into everything.â
âWell, it shows,â you said. âIt was such a raw and beautiful performance. I mightâve shed a tear or two.â
âOkay, now youâre just trying to make me blush,â Drew teased, pointing at you with a playful squint. âBut seriously, that means a lot coming from you.â
âHey, give credit where itâs due,â you shot back with a grin. âYouâve got this way of making everything feel so real. Like when youâre in pain, weâre in pain. When youâre in love, weâre falling right alongside you.â
âWow,â he said, shaking his head as if to clear it. âI donât know what to do with all these compliments. This is the best therapy session Iâve ever had.â
You laughed, crossing your legs and leaning forward slightly. âWell, Iâm glad I could help. But now Iâm curiousâhow did you prepare for a role like that? I mean, itâs so emotionally intense, no?.â
âIt was a lot of journaling, a lot of talking with Luca about backstory and motivations,â Drew explained, his tone more thoughtful. âAnd honestly, I kind of drew from real-life experiences. Not the exact ones, obviously, but just feelings of vulnerability and⊠wanting to be understood.â
âThatâs beautiful,â you said softly, your smile turning tender. âItâs amazing how much of ourselves we pour into these characters.â
âExactly,â Drew agreed. âAnd sometimes itâs terrifying, but when it resonates with people, it feels worth it.â
âIt definitely resonated with me,â you assured him. âAnd Iâm sure with countless others too.â
âThatâs really nice to hear,â he said with a soft smile.
âHow was it for you to work with Luca? Because I remember it being one of the highlights of my career.â
Drewâs eyes lit up at the mention of Luca Guadagnino, and he leaned forward slightly, as if the memory itself was a magnet pulling him closer. âOh, working with Luca was⊠incredible,â he said, his voice laced with awe. âHeâs got this way of creating such a safe, open space on set. Itâs almost like heâs not just directingâheâs inviting you into this world heâs building in his head.â
You nodded eagerly, your own memories of working with Luca bringing a nostalgic smile to your face. âI know exactly what you mean. He makes it feel like youâre collaborating on this deeply personal piece of art, rather than just executing someone elseâs vision.â
âExactly!â Drew said, gesturing animatedly. âAnd he has this way of pulling things out of you that you didnât even know you had. Like, heâll ask you one simple question, and suddenly youâre diving into this emotional rabbit hole.â
You laughed, tilting your head in agreement. âHe asked me once, âWhat would this character, Maren in my case, dream about?â and it completely changed how I approached the next scene.â
Drewâs mouth dropped open in mock surprise. âHe asked me the exact same question!â
âNo way!â you exclaimed, your laughter spilling out in disbelief. âI love that! Itâs honestly such a deceptively simple question, but it opens up so many layers.â
âIt really does,â Drew said, chuckling. âAnd then youâre sitting there like, âOkay, now I have to rethink everything I thought I knew about this character.ââ
âItâs kind of genius, though,â you added. âHe makes you work harder, but not in a way that feels forced. Itâs like⊠he trusts you to figure it out, but he gives you these breadcrumbs to follow.â
âExactly,â Drew said again, his tone growing softer. âI think thatâs why his films feel so intimate, he gets the human part so right.â
You smiled, letting his words settle in the air for a moment. âI think thatâs what makes working with him feel like such a privilege. Itâs not just about telling a storyâitâs about feeling it.â
Drew nodded, his gaze thoughtful. âAnd those are the moments that stick with you, you know? The ones where you felt something real, even if it was just for a moment.â
âCompletely,â you agreed, your voice soft with sincerity. âThose moments are why we do this.â
For a moment, the two of you sat in companionable silence, the weight of the conversation settling in the cozy studio. Then, Drew broke the quiet with a grin. âOkay, but did Luca make you do those impromptu rehearsals at, like, the crack of dawn?â
âOh my God, yes!â you burst out, your eyes widening. âIâd just roll out of bed with zero coffee and somehow be expected to pour my soul into a scene.â
Drew laughed, his face lighting up. âRight? Itâs like, âGood morning, hereâs your emotional breakdown for the day.ââ
You laughed along with him, the shared experience adding another thread to the easy camaraderie forming between you. âBut honestly, Iâd do it all over again in a heartbeat.â
âSame,â Drew said, his expression softening again. âFor Luca? Anytime.â
âAbsolutely,â you agreed, your eyes locking with his for a moment before the warmth of the studio light reminded you both that the cameras were still rolling.
Drew shifted in his seat slightly, his expression thoughtful. âYou know, itâs kind of wildâhearing you talk about all these incredible experiences. Youâve been doing this for so long, and yet itâs like youâre just getting started.â
You tilted your head with a small smile. âThatâs sweet of you to say. But yeah, I guess I have been in this industry for most of my life. Itâs all Iâve ever really known.â
Drewâs eyebrows lifted. âThatâs crazy to think about. I didnât even consider acting until after college. You mustâve been, what, ten? Eleven?â
âEight, actually,â you corrected with a chuckle. âMy first role was in this little indie film. I was basically just the kid who ran around in the background eating ice cream, but I thought it was the coolest thing ever.â
He laughed, clearly amused. âThatâs adorable. And now youâre the Hollywood It Girl. No big deal.â
You rolled your eyes playfully, your laughter light. âOh, stop it. But yeah, itâs been a journey. Growing up on sets definitely shaped me, for better or worse. Sometimes I wonder what it wouldâve been like to have a more ânormalâ childhood.â
Drewâs smile softened. âThat mustâve been such a whirlwind. I canât even imagine starting that young. I didnât even think about acting seriously until high school.â
âOh, Iâve read about that!â You said, your voice lighting up. âYou were all about sports growing up, right?â
âYeah,â Drew admitted with a chuckle. âI was your typical small-town kidâbaseball, basketball, you name it. I was convinced I was going to go pro in something, but clearly, that didnât pan out.â
âWell, I think acting suits you pretty well.âÂ
âThank you,â he says with a soft laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. âBut yeah, the real shift happened in high school when I joined a drama class. It was all Samuel Beckett and absurdist plays, which at the time I thought was the coolest thing ever.â
You leaned forward, intrigued. âSo thatâs what pulled you in? Drama class?â
âPretty much,â he said with a nod. âAnd then I went to Western Carolina for college. I double-majored in English and theater, thinking, âIf this acting thing doesnât work out, Iâll at least have a backup plan.ââ
âThatâs so realistic of you,â you said with a laugh. âMeanwhile, I was ten, telling anyone whoâd listen that I was going to win an Oscar one day.â
âAnd look at you now,â Drew said, gesturing to you with an almost reverent smile. âYou made it happen.â
You chuckled, a bit flustered by his admiration. âWell, not quite, just an Oscar nominee for now. But thank you. You know, I think your journeyâs pretty incredible too. A double major? Thatâs no joke. And starting later in the game like you did⊠it must have felt like a slow burn, but itâs clearly paid off.â
âYeah, I guess,â Drew said thoughtfully. âIt was definitely a slower burn for me. I didnât land my first real gig until Iâd been auditioning for what felt like forever.â
âI think that makes your journey even more special,â you said, your tone sincere. âYou came into it with all this life experience and maturity. It shows in your work, you know? Thereâs this depth to your performances thatâs just⊠rare.â
Drewâs ears turned a little pink, and he laughed softly, glancing down at his hands. âWow, youâre gonna make me blush over here.â
âGood,â you said with a teasing smile. âItâs only fair after all the compliments youâve been throwing my way.â
He looked up, his grin sheepish but warm. âTouchĂ©. But seriously, hearing that from someone like youâsomeone whoâs been at this for so long and is so insanely talentedâit means a lot.â
âWell,â you replied with a playful tilt of your head, âI think itâs safe to say weâre officially mutual fans.â
Drew laughed at that, the sound easy and genuine. âI can live with that.â
The conversation shifted into more comfortable territory as the two of you shared experiences, trading stories about acting and the film industry. Drew, now feeling at ease, leaned forward with renewed interest.
âYou know,â he began, a thoughtful expression crossing his face, âI've been thinking about how different TV shows and movies are, especially when it comes to the pacing and character development. Like, in a show, we have to maintain this ongoing energy for the characters over multiple seasons. But with movies, itâs a totally different vibe, right?â
You nodded, understanding immediately where he was going. âItâs definitely a huge shift. With TV, youâre given time to build on a character slowly. Every episode is another chapter, so you can explore new facets of them and keep the audience hooked for longer periods of time. But movies, theyâre this intense sprint. You have to get everything across in just two hours or so, but in a way that feels just as layered and satisfying.â
Drew's eyes lit up with excitement, clearly passionate about the topic. "Exactly! You have to balance the action and suspense while still giving the characters these moments of vulnerability. Over multiple seasons, you can really let them grow and change. It's like a slow burn. But when you're doing a movie, you donât have the luxury of that buildup. It has to be this concentrated emotional punch right from the start.â
âThatâs one of the biggest challenges of film, for sure," you agreed. "In a film, every second counts. You canât afford to waste a moment. But I think whatâs also interesting is how both mediums can explore a characterâs journey from different angles. TV shows can dive into their backstory in more detail, but movies... they really need to hit those emotional beats and leave an impact without dragging it out."
Drew smiled, clearly engaged in the discussion. âIn TV shows you need that perfect balance of suspense, character development, and personal growth. And then, at the end of the season, you drop a huge bombshell that leaves people wanting more.â
You laughed, raising an eyebrow playfully. âSounds like youâve been doing some serious thinking about it. Whatâs the secret to keeping the audience hooked without losing the depth of your character?â
He leaned back, his expression thoughtful. âWell, I think itâs about letting the characters evolve with the story. You need to make sure the audience sees the human side of your character, even when they're in these crazy situations. Itâs what keeps people invested in the long run.â
âYouâve really got the process figured out,â you said with a smile. âBut youâre rightâitâs a different rhythm for TV. With a movie, you get to go deep quickly, but with a show, you have to keep it dynamic and varied. And letâs not forget, you need that cliffhanger at the end to make people binge-watch the next season.â
Drewâs eyes twinkled with mischief. âYouâre giving away all the secrets! Next thing you know, people will be expecting a cliffhanger every time they watch a movie."
âWell, movies and TV are both art, but they demand different approaches,â you said, âand youâre doing an amazing job balancing both. Iâm honestly so excited to see where your career goes next. Both worlds are lucky to have you.â
He chuckled softly, clearly humbled. âThanks. I think Iâm just lucky to be a part of both. I mean, who wouldnât want to be in a show that gets people talking for days?â
âRight? Youâve got Outer Banks, which has such a dedicated fanbase, and then movies like Queer that touch people in such a different way. Itâs amazing to watch your versatility.â
He leaned in slightly, a playful glint in his eyes. âIâm just trying to keep up with you. Honestly, your transition from action to more emotional roles is inspiring. I hope I can pull off something even close to what youâve done with your career.â
Your smile softened, your voice sincere. âWell, youâre already doing it, Drew. Youâre already there. Itâs not just about the rolesâitâs about the heart you put into them. And youâve definitely got that.â
Drewâs smile faltered for a moment, the weight of your words sinking in. His gaze softened, as if he were truly reflecting on what youâd said. He leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms but keeping his eyes on you, his expression thoughtful.
âIt's crazy, isn't it?â He began, his voice a little quieter now, âThe idea of giving so much of yourself to something that feels so... intimate. But when it works, when the audience feels it too, there's nothing like it.â
âExactly,â you agreed, your voice a little quieter now. âThat's the real magic, when the audience feels like they know the characters, like they're right there with them. Itâs not about the plot twists or the fancy setsâitâs about the emotions that we build and share with them.â
Drew nodded thoughtfully, his gaze drifting away for a moment before returning to you. âSpeaking of emotions, I just saw your new movie, We Live In Time,â he said, his voice taking on a softer tone. âItâs one of those films that stays with you, you know? Itâs raw in a way that makes you uncomfortable, but itâs also beautiful. How did you tap into that for Almut?â
Your expression softened as you thought back on the experience. We Live In Time had been a journeyâa raw, almost therapeutic one. âIt was an emotional rollercoaster, honestly,â you said, leaning back slightly, letting the memory settle in. âI think the hardest part was showing that moment where her whole world shifts. It was such a raw, profound type of emotion I had to channel in order to do justice to the character and her experiences.â
Drew sat back, letting the weight of the conversation settle. âI think that's what makes your career so incredible. You never just play a character. You become them. And you take us with you. Every heartbreak, every triumph, every moment of doubt... we feel it all with you. That's what makes your work so powerful.â
You met his gaze, feeling the depth of the conversation linger between you both. âItâs all about connection, right? Connecting with the character, with the audience, and with the emotions that we all share as humans. Because at the end of the day, weâre all just trying to make sense of time, love, and the moments we get.â
Drew smiled, his expression genuine and soft. âWell, youâve definitely made sense of it for me. We Live In Timeâitâs not just a movie. Itâs a reminder to cherish what we have. And that, in itself, is something special.â
You smiled back, your heart full as you let the words sink in. âThank you, Drew. Thatâs really sweet of you.â
You both shared a comfortable silence for a moment, before Drew broke it with a playful grin. âYou know, itâs clear youâve mastered the art of vulnerability on screen, but I canât help but wonderâdid you ever have moments on set where it was just... impossible to take things seriously?â
You laughed, the sound light and genuine. âOh, absolutely. In fact, as a kid, it was all impossible to be serious,â you admitted, shaking your head at the memory. âI remember this one time during a scene on set when I was probably around 9 or 10. We were supposed to be doing this emotional scene, and I had to cry on cue. But instead of crying, I couldnât stop giggling. It was a dramatic moment, and my co-star was all serious and trying to get through the scene, but I just... lost it.â
Drew raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. âGiggling during a dramatic scene? What happened?â
âWell, my director, bless her heart, kept trying to give me these 'serious actor' looks. She was this no-nonsense kind of woman, and she had this way of narrowing her eyes when things werenât going well. I tried my best to hold it together, but then my co-starâwho was way too good at being seriousâlooked at me and just gave this super intense stare, and that was it. I burst out laughing right in the middle of the take.â
Drew chuckled, shaking his head. âI can just picture that. You were probably trying to hold it together, but it must have been so hard with all that tension in the air.â
âI swear, the more I tried not to laugh, the harder it became,â you continued, grinning at the memory. âIt was one of those moments where youâre like, 'Why am I even here? I canât do this.' But somehow, I got through it. The director had to take a deep breath, and we did a few more takes. Eventually, we got it done, but I think we all were on the verge of cracking up the whole time.â
Drew let out a laugh, clearly imagining the scene. âI canât blame you. I feel like as a kid, you have no filter. Everything feels like a joke, and itâs so hard to be serious when everyone else is trying so hard.â
âYou have no idea,â you said, your voice still light. âThere were so many times Iâd be doing a serious scene, and Iâd start thinking about something random, like a certain meme or a funny sound someone made on setâand then, bam, it was game over. Iâd be holding in a laugh like my life depended on it.â
Drew smirked, leaning in a little. âI totally feel that. I mean, as an adult, I still have moments where I struggle to keep a straight face. I once had a scene where I was supposed to be super intense, but the prop guy was standing just out of frame, and he made this ridiculous face at meâcompletely threw me off. I couldnât stop laughing, and it ended up taking hours to finish the scene because we kept cracking up. Honestly, I think the crew started to get annoyed with us after a while.â
âSee?â you said with a grin. âIt never really changes. Truthfully, the older you get, the harder it becomes to hold it in. But then you look at the footage and realize how much fun you actually had, and that makes it all worth it.â
Drew nodded thoughtfully, a playful twinkle in his eyes. âYeah, thatâs the thing. Sometimes itâs the moments you didnât plan for that end up being the most memorable. Like when you have a laugh on set, and suddenly you feel closer to everyone, even though youâre supposed to be in character.â
âExactly,â you said, your smile widening. âThereâs something so beautiful about those unscripted moments. It reminds you that acting is, at its core, about connectingâwhether thatâs through laughter or the heavy stuff. And even though I had my fair share of giggling fits as a kid, I think those moments taught me just as much as the serious ones. Maybe more.â
Drew leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful look crossing his face. âIt's funny how those little momentsâlike a laugh in the middle of a serious sceneâcan end up being the ones you remember the most. I think those are the ones that make the work feel real, you know?â
You smiled, your gaze distant as you reflected on the years of working on sets. âI know exactly what you mean.â
âYeah, like those unscripted moments,â Drew added, his voice quieter now, as if the weight of the sentiment lingered in the air. âThey give the performance an authenticity that you canât get from just following the script to a tee.â
You nodded, the words hanging between you like a shared understanding. âExactly. And as a kid, I was so focused on getting it ârightââon being perfectâthat I missed the beauty of just being in the moment. But as Iâve gotten older, Iâve realized how important it is to let go of the idea of perfection. It's in those mistakes, the wrong takes, the bloopersâthat's where you find the truth.â
Drew's expression softened, his eyes meeting yours with a sincerity that made your chest tighten. âI think itâs key not to be afraid to show the mess, the imperfect parts of a character, because thatâs what makes them human.â
A small chuckle escaped you, the warmth of the moment filling the studio. âRight? Weâre all just a little bit of a mess, trying to figure it out, but thatâs what makes the journey worth it. Weâre constantly learning, constantly evolving, and we bring that to our work. The growth, the mistakesâit all shapes us.â
Drew nodded, his gaze shifting as if reflecting on those same ideas. âYeah, and the growth never stops, does it? Just when you think youâve figured it out, something new happens, and it challenges you again.â
âThat's the beauty of it,â you said, your voice quieter now, the bond between you both deepening. âThe challenge is what keeps it exciting, keeps you moving forward.â
Drew grinned, a playful spark lighting his eyes once more. âWell, I guess weâre both lifelong students of this thing called acting, huh?â
âAbsolutely,â you said with a laugh, the lightness returning. âAnd just like any good student, weâll always be learning. Who knows, maybe we'll even get better at not laughing in the middle of dramatic scenes.â
Drew let out a hearty laugh, nodding enthusiastically. âI think thatâs going to take years of practice, honestly.â
You both shared a moment of genuine laughter, the warmth of your conversation filling the space around you. You leaned back into the chairs, the laughter still lingering in the air, a sense of camaraderie that made the space between you feel comfortable and open. You continued sharing stories, moving seamlessly from one experience to the next.
The conversation began to slow, the easy flow of stories fading into a comfortable silence, as you both shared an unspoken understanding. The light laughter that had filled the room now felt like a warm, lingering hum between you.
Drew shifted slightly in his chair, his gaze turning toward you with a subtle, thoughtful expression. âYou know,â he began, his voice softer now, âI really hope we get to work together sometime. I think itâd be incredible. Itâs the kind of thing where I can already imagine what itâd be like. Just... easy, real. Like this.â
Your heart skipped a beat at his words, but you kept your composure, offering a smile that spoke volumes. âIâd love that. If you receive a call from your manager these days⊠maybe I had something to do with it, so be prepared.â
The air between you both was charged, the quiet intensity of the moment not lost on either of you. There was something unspoken, something deeper that neither of you addressed outright but that seemed to hang there all the same. The connection was undeniable, yet it lingered in the silence, unspoken, but clear.
Drew finally broke the spell with a playful grin, his eyes flicking back to yours. âOh, Iâll be ready. Canât wait to see what magic we create together.â
You returned his smile, your heart racing ever so slightly, though you kept it hidden behind the ease of your words. âIâm sure itâll be something incredible.â
As the interview wrapped up, there was a lingering sense of something unspoken between you both, an attraction that neither of you had to mention but was so clearly felt. The kind of connection that could only be hinted at, but would never truly fade. It was the kind of moment that would stay with both of you long after the cameras stopped rolling.
âThank you,â you said softly as the final moments of the interview started to loom, your voice carrying a depth that reflected everything unsaid between you. âThis has been amazing. Honestly, it feels like weâve been talking for hours, and yet it still doesnât feel like enough.â
He nodded, his expression soft but genuine. âI feel the same way. This has been one of the most honest and open conversations Iâve had in a long time.â
The crew began to pack up, signaling that the interview was at its end, but neither of you seemed in any hurry to break the moment. The usual chatter and movement around you felt distant, as if the two of you were in your own world for just a little longer.
âYou know,â Drew said, his voice quieter now, a hint of sincerity threading through, âI think we make a pretty good team even just sitting here talking. Imagine what we could do with a whole script.â
Your smile softened, and you nodded, the words feeling right, but the undertone of something moreâsomething unsaidâhung in the air. âYeah, I think weâd be unstoppable.â
The moment stretched between you both, filled with the kind of comfortable tension that comes when you realize youâve shared something real. Something that felt like it could turn into something more.
You both stood up, a final, lingering moment before the usual goodbye. Drew extended a hand, his gaze holding yours a beat longer than necessary.
âTake care, okay?â he said, his voice warm, like the words carried more than just a polite farewell.
You shook his hand, the warmth of his touch lingering just a moment longer than expected. âYou too, Drew,â you replied, your voice soft yet carrying an undercurrent of meaning that mirrored his own.
As you turned to gather your things, you couldnât help but glance back over your shoulder. He was still standing there, watching you with that same thoughtful expression, his hands casually tucked into his pockets. The faintest smile curved his lips, as if he were replaying the conversation in his mind.
âSee you around,â he called out, the words simple but loaded with promise.
âYeah,â you said, meeting his gaze one last time. âSee you around.â
Walking away, you felt a peculiar lightness, as though something intangible had shifted, leaving you both exhilarated and curious. It wasnât every day you met someone who made you feel seen in such a profound way, and as you left the studio, you found yourself smiling, a quiet hope blooming in your chest.
And for a fleeting second, you allowed yourself to wonder what could come next.
Donât mind me just trying to find a way to inject these in my veins đ

This is the CUTEST thing ever!!! I love it so much
Hi!! I was wondering if you would do a request for your Eras Festival?? For paper rings with Kie where itâs them in poguelandia and they make each other little rings and think back to all the memories they have had?
Paper Rings - Kiara Carrera x Fem!Reader
KIARA CARRERA MASTERLIST | ERAS FESTIVAL MASTERLIST
SHIPPING: Kiara Carrera x Fem!Reader (WLW) REQUESTET?: Yes (and yes they are open) SUMMARY: While sitting making little rings out of gras, you talked about the past on outer banks, laughing and reminiscing about your adventures together.
WORDCOUNT: 1.810 Words (short for my standards, surprisingly) PROMPTS: None WARNINGS: Underage drinking, smoking weed, swearwords, A/N: after the ending of The Eras Tour, and not being able to sleep at night I finally got to write my requests a bit. As always, English is not my first language so if there are Grammar mistakes, I am so sorry, but I hope you like it and it was somewhat, what you imagined a bit! -
The Sun hits just right while you and Kiara were sitting up on the cliff near the already prepared Fireplace, for the moment you are going to see Help. You have no idea how long it has been since you and your friends landed on this deserted Island, probably a few weeks, maybe a month or two, who knows. All that matters right now are you, your friends and your girlfriend and the survival on this Island in the middle of the Ocean. You were looking down to your other friends when you heard your girlfriend speak up.
âGod, as much as I love it here, I would give everything right now to have a warm Shower.â, she said, a desperate look on her face while looking up from her making. âI know, you are probably not the only one here. Even though I feel like JJ enjoys it a bit too much living without basic stuff.â, you smirked at her, knowing the reaction of your friend when that topic was first brought up. âI know right? Just like the time when we had like no running water, because of a storm that had occurred prior.â, she remembered, looking at you in disbelief. âI know, it took literally weeks for the water to run again!â, you replied with an annoyed tone in your voice.
You two shared a laugh about the memory in your heads, the water completely stopping on the whole Outer Banks, probably was the worst. Well at least for you guys on the Cut, the Kooks had the water faster running again, than you could blink in a second.
âHey, do you remember the night that we first met?â, you suddenly asked after a few moments of silence.
âYeah, wasnât that like in seventh grade?â, she looked back at you. âYes! I believe it was a Keg Party at the Beach.â, you recalled. âShit, yes! Wasnât that like your first ever Keg Party?â, she laughed. âOh God yes, yes it was. Iâm so glad my Mom didnât separate my head from my Body when I came home the next day.â, you remembered embarrassed.
âI know! â, she started laughing. âHey, that's not funny! I probably like weed, alcohol and what not! Fuck JJ and John B were as High as the Moon that night!â, you said laughing.
-
*Flashback 2016*
First things first, you were nervous as shit. You told your parents that you were sleeping over at a friend's house, which is true in some way at least, what they donât know is that your friend had planned that you were going to the Keg happening at the beach. When you arrived you saw all of the People in your age group or higher at the beach, with a bunch of tourist teens having a great time. Your first impression of the drunk teens, the loud music blaring over Bluetooth speakers with the newest hits, all dancing and laughing was weird of some sort? Well, the smell of sweat, salt air, beer and a smell you couldnât yet sort in made your stomach turn a bitâ and your nerves didnât help a single bit. You followed your friend through the crowd of teens until you stopped, before you were four teens, briefly introduced as JJ, John B, Kie and Pope who seemed just as nervous to be here as you. The first thing in a truly classic JJ way was him holding the Joint out to you and asking if you wanted a hit, which your friend declined in your name. A few moments later, you were sitting with the Pogues and chatted away, barely sipping on your beer. You and Pope bonding over the fact that your parents probably will kill you when you get home tomorrow, you saw your friend chatting with the other three and you donât know when but at some point Kie came over to you annoyed over the fact how high JJ and John B are, best presented with JJ falling over laughing at something John B said.
That was the first time you and Kie met, starting to have conversations about the most random stuff, not knowing what the future will bring for you.
-
You were both laughing your asses off discussing that evening. âYou know, that night I never would have thought what would happen in the future.â, she said smiling. âWhat exactly? Us coming together or being stranded in the Caribbean?â, you asked her. âBoth somehow? I donât know, but looking back it was probably clear as day for everyone else.â, she explained with a look on her face, which explained to you that she was deep in her thoughts. âWell, looking back at us coming together was pretty much an accident. But probably my favorite one yet.â, you smiled at her while taking her hand in yours.
Which was true, you and Kie getting together was an accident, a happy one to be fair. It was during the whole Gold from the Royal Merchant thing that happened, JJ said as usual something stupid and you were 10 minutes away from punching him in the nose; luckily for JJ, Kie was there to stop your actions. Later at the same evening, while chilling in the Cats Ass, aka the Hottub, you were talking to Kie when your Attention was taken from her for a few seconds and she accidentally let it slip that she is in love with you. That statement not only took you but also her and your friends who were also sitting in the same Hottub off guard, she tried to leave fastly and pretended like nothing happened, yet you reacted faster and got her to calm down and take a walk with you. Long Story Short, you had your first Kiss that evening.
âI still find it embarrassing how it just slipped out of me.â, she said, hiding her face in her hands. âI think it was quite cute.â, you slightly mocked her with a smirk. âOh yeah, donât think I let you forget the Kiss we shared, where you accidentally kissed my chin instead of my Lips.â, she said looking at you defensively. âTo my defense, I had alcohol in my blood system and was tipsy.â, you grinned at her. âYeah sure, keep telling you that, miss perfect.â, she laughed.
You werenât Tipsy at all. You pretty sure sobered up when she let her love confession slip and were nervous as shit when she leaned into you for that kiss. Anyways, that was probably the best first Kiss you ever had, nothing in comparison with the other people you kissed.
âHey, do you remember when we watched that one TrashTV show? The one where the girl wanted the most expensive ring possible for her wedding?â, you asked. âOh yeah, I remember that. I still hate how materialistic she was, just because her fianceĂ© had money.â, Kie replied. âWell, even though I like shiny things I would also marry you with paper- or gras rings.â, you said. Kie couldnât do anything other than to smile at you and lean in for a Kiss you gladly accepted and reciprocated.
After you two separated you remember the day you told your parents that you were together, which you couldnât keep from bringing up. âHey, remember the day we told our parents when we were together.â, you looked at her curiously. âYeah, like it was yesterday.â, she said. âWell I don't like that sheâs a Pogue.â, you started mimicking her father. âBut at least she canât get you pregnant.â, you two finished and laughed at that. -
*flashback*
Well the day you decided to tell your parents was a hell of a ride. Even though you already knew, your parents donât have a problem with you liking girls, it was a whole other story for Kie and her parents.
The drive to her house wasnât that long, but that day especially it felt absolutely short. When you went in, you were already greeted with the face of her father who was all but pleased seeing someone from the Cut in his house. Her mother was the opposite, she knew your mom from school back in the day so she welcomed you with a warm smile. At least someone is somehow pleased with seeing you.
You sat her parents down in the living room, nerves finally striking you too now that you see them in front of you.âMom, Dad, I have something to tell you.â, Kie startet off.âWhat is it?â, asked her mom calmly, while her father just had an unfazed look on his face.âI-â, she stopped to take a deep breath.âMom, Dad, Iâm Bi and Y/N is my girlfriend.â, she said.To be fair none of you two could really read the face or thoughts from her parents.âWell, that is something new..â, her mom started off.âAnd..?â, Kie asked.âNo.â, her dad interrupted when her mom wanted to speak.âWhat No?â, Kie asked.âIâm not letting you date a Pogue, no matter the Sex.â, her dad continued.Short Story, that ended up into an argument, where you and Kie just left without a goodbye.
âWanna talk about what happened when we were at your place?â, you asked when you arrived at you home.âNo, Iâm Okay.â, she said, letting herself fall onto your bed.âStop telling me youâre Okay Kie, I know that you are not.â, you let yourself fall next to her. That night she slept over at your place, cuddling up in the bed.
The next day her parents called you both back to their place, where her father declared while he was not happy that you were a Pogue, at least she canât get pregnant by you.
-
You came out of your Bubble when you heard Sarah call for you two to come down, because the sun was setting and coloring in the most beautiful pinks and oranges you have ever seen. Luckily you two had finished the rings and gifted them to each other, while making your way back down to the Other.
âAh there they are, the two love birds.â, JJ called out. âCome shut up.â, you said grinning, while flipping him off. âYou know JJ, I start to think sometimes that I actually hate you.â, Kie said while sitting down next to you for the Bonfire. âI am going to pretend that I didnât hear that.â, he stated while getting the fish ready.
The rest of the evening was spent with stories and reminiscing about the time back on the Cut or Chleo telling you about the adventures she had lived.
And with the Pougelandia flag waving in the wind, your friends chatting away and your girlfriend in your arms living a somewhat life on a deserted Island, you felt like you could be like this forever.

Julie and the Phantoms
=
I sighed as I put my luggage down on my families driveway.
My body drifted towards the white shed, where my aunt used to sing and song write all the time.
I was startled as I heard the piano start to play.
I snuck over, leaving my luggage hidden so no one could steal it and peeked my head through the door.
Oh, it was just my favorite cousin Julie.
Wait.
It's my favorite cousin Julie.
I pulled the door open, making it rattle.
Julie stopped playing and looked up at me.
Her young face slacked into a shocked expression.
I grinned and ran towards her.
"Jules!! It's so good to see you."
She broke from our hug just to look up at me.
"I missed you so much."
She mumbled with teary eyes.
I pouted and wiped her tears away.
"Don't cry or I'll cry."
I said, my voice slightly shaking.
"Okay, okay, deep breath Yn."
I breathed in and out through my nose.
"You too, girly."
She did the same.
"I didn't know you were playing and singing again!"
I said, excited and beaming at her.
She grew shy and turned towards the corner of the room.
And... there are three guys in our shed. How did I not notice them.
They smiled at her and seemed to kind of ignore me, Julie not even mentioning them when she turned back to me.
"Um, Jules... why are there three men in our shed?"
I said, a little frightned.
They all whipped their heads at me, staring in shock.
"...what. Why are you staring at me like that? Jules, who are these guys?"
I said, stepping closer to my cousin and putting an arm around her shoulders.
Julie snapped out of her shock and turned to me.
"Um, well this is Luke, Reggie, and Alex."
Julie said, pointing to them as she went.
Reggie was the only one that caught my eye, he winked when he realized I was lingering on him.
My face went red and I looked away.
"Also known as Sunset Curve."
Luke said, a grin on his face.
"Tell your friends!"
Reggie added, smirking at me.
I licked my lips and turned towards Julie.
"How long were they standing there?"
I whispered, still freaked out.
"Not long at all, Yn."
Reggie answered, suddenly appearing from behind us.
"What the hell..."
I said under my breath, putting a hand over my racing heart.
"So, how come I haven't heard of these guys?"
"Because... their dead."
Julie said, playing with her braclets.
I gave her a 'WTF' smile.
"I meant from you... but that's not a funny joke."
Reggie stepped forwards and held out his hand.
"What..."
"Hold my hand."
My face turned a light pink as I looked up at his dark brown eyes.
I caustically put my hand down on Reggie's.
I gave him a 'really?' look when nothing happend.
He looked at Julie, Luke, and Alex.
"What the hell does that mean?"
"Play it off."
Luke loudly whispered.
Reggie turned and was now holding my hand properly.
"Sorry Yn. That was just an excuse to hold your hand."
I couldn't help but smile at his ridiculousness.
Is it controversial to say JATP deserved a season two more than Emily in Paris đ€
Never getting over it idc.
dw Iâm joking. (or am I?)
This is my first time writing for The Outsiders, so let me know if you would want anymore! I also would like to do this same idea for another fandom (maybe Harry Potter?).
Summary: A soc puts gum in Dottie's hair, which results in a haircut.
              Â
Dottie sat in her room feeling ashamed. She didnât want to face the boys and have them see the result of how she couldnât defend herself. Dottie was a beautiful girl. Her looks were just the beginning of the person she was. Her gentle nature made people question whether she was an actual greaser. Though she never participated in rumbles or scrapes that would happen, Dottie undoubtfully stood with the boys. She had gotten close with Ponyboy in school, having helped him catch up on schoolwork he missed and anything that he had trouble with. His brothers, especially Dally, viewed her as an angel for keeping their brother on track in school.
This earned her the privilege of meeting the main group. and them adopting her as a sister. Even Ponyboy couldnât help but to see her as a little sister, even though she was a couple months younger. As Dottie laid on her bed, she refused to go over and face them. Running her hand through her once long hair. As it once fell near her hips, the locks were below her jawline now. She squeezed her eyes shut not wanting the tears to fall as she remembered the terrible encounter. A group of socs had cornered her as she walked home two days ago, poking and joking to her how she was dirty and greasy. One had leaned over and remarked that her hair was probably drenched in grease that should be taken care of. He had pulled his gum from his mouth, stretching it out and wadding it into her hair. She had tried to fight him off, but she was useless against the grip of two others. Â
Her mother had gasped as she came home, hair wrecked and tears falling. The only solution was to cut it out, resulting in the short cut she sported now. The look wasnât awful, it made her look more mature and rugged, but Dottieâs hair had always been long. She was scared the boys would make fun of her, saying something that boys donât realize would hurt her feelings.
The time she had been away had worried the boys. Ponyboy had tried to call her house multiple times only getting her mom telling him that Dottie wasnât feeling well. The boys had thought about making a trip over, but Darry said it wouldnât be a smart idea barging over. They decided to just wait until you were feeling better to see them again.
After a couple days, and Dottieâs mother, she finally made the journey over. She took several deep breaths before knocking. Dottie knew she was allowed to just enter, but felt like she should knock after not being around her a bit. Standing there for a few seconds before the door swung open revealing Darry. His face lifting into a smile seeing the familiar girl before his eyes drifted towards her short hair. He didnât bring it up as he brought her into a comforting hub.
âDottie, weâve been missing you around here.â Darryâs soft voice alerted the others from the living room. They all got up from their lounging positions and went towards the door. Releasing Dottie, Darry led her in the house. She met with many arms wrapped around her. Her nerves slipped away momentarily. All the nerves leaving as she was surrounded by her friends. Ponyboy pulled away first catching a glimpse of her appearance.
âI love what youâve done with your hair!â He said making all the boys pull back to look. They all took turns sending compliments her way.
âIt looks real good, sweetheart.â- Sodapop
               âSO pretty.â- Steve
âYou look like one of âem rocker chicksâ- Twobit
               âLooks really nice.â â Johny
All the boys said something nice, before Dally came up and ruffled her hair, âWhat made you cut it? I thought you liked keepin it long?â Dottie bit her lip not wanting to tell. She didnât keep anything from them, but she knew that if she said anything that they would be livid. The boys would do something stupid to get payback, and Dottie didnât want that to happen. Her lack of words made the greasers suspicious.
âWhatâs wrong dots?â Soda grabbed her hand trying to get her to look at him. She held eye contact as she opened her mouth. No words finding their way out just yet, only tears welling up in her eyes. Soda gently pulled her over to the couch as the others followed. Giving her a bit of space as the found a spot to sit around the room. After a minute of silence Dottie finally confessed and told them what happened. They all stood up and begin to talk over each other. Shouts of âthey wonât get away with this!â and âThose dirty socs!â filling up the house. Dottie held her arms up and shook her head. As Dally quietly slipped from the house, Dottie caught their attention.             Â
âNo guys, I donât want you all to cause anymore fuss. Yeah, what they did was wrong, but itâs not worth going out there and getting into more trouble.â The boys exchanged looks before sitting back down. Dottie let out a breath feeling a but calmer now that the boys werenât about to barge out into the streets looking for a fight with ever soc they saw. The boys tried to sooth over the previous tension by talking to Dottie about how she looks just as great as before.              Â
âYeah, now we can actually see your face!â earning two bit a smack on the back of the head from Johny. They all started laughing falling back into their usual comfort now that Dittie was finally back.        Â
âHey whereâs Dally?â

Chapter Three: You Can See Us
Summary: After seeing Julie perform with the boys. Maddie has a lot to think about.
Maddie knew that Julie was in something way better than she could have ever imagined. Maybe this could be the day. What if she could finally find a way to reconnect with Julie. Maddie knew she needed a lot of strength to bring herself in front of Julie after nearly a year of nothing between them. This brought to the position Maddie was in now.    Â
In the hall near the gym, Maddie paced back and forth. After the performance, she blended in with the crowd to get out. Maddie was trying to wrap her head around the whole situation. How was she supposed to just walk up to Julie. What would she even say? âOh, hey Julie! Sorry for disappearing, how did you end up with a ghost band?â No, there was no way to just come out and say that. Julie never even knew that Maddie could see spirits, and she wasnât sure how to explain it all now. Closing her eyes and deciding to just hold off for the moment, Maddie shook her head. Nope, not today. So, she began to make her way back to class.
Turning around the corner, Maddie came face to face with the three boys who were just on stage. Freezing in her place, Maddie held her breath. Their back was to her as they cheered together. Their excitement from playing moments ago showing through the way they jumped around. Luke, Alex, and Reggie too in their own World couldnât see the girl standing a few feet away. Maddie got control of her feet again and started to back away slowly. Her shoes squeaked causing the boys to whip around. Three sets of eyes fell upon her mortified face.
âYou! You can see us!â Alex threw his finger up pointing at her. Maddie shook her head quickly as Luke and Reggie stepped closer. âI told you guys that she looked at us.â Alex quickly looked at the boys before turning back towards Maddie. They couldnât believe that someone could finally see them outside of Julie, and a few moments ago when they were on stage.
âNo! I canât,â Maddie screwed her eyes shut, knowing that responding confirmed it completely to the boys. They all scrambled trying to get closer as she threw her arms up stopping them. âIâm sorry, please just stay there.â Maddie let out a stressed sigh. She couldnât so this right now. With all the Julie stuff, she wasnât ready to jump into trying to figure out how to deal with three new ghosts who knew she could see them. Oh boy, she needed to talk to Willie.
âHow can you see us?â Luke jumped in first. He was still riding the high from earlier and couldnât help but feel this day just kept getting better and better. So many questions flowing through his head that he couldnât keep in. âHow are you able to that? Do you see other ghosts? Did you see us perform? How is this possible.â
See, this is why Maddie avoided letting other spirits know she could see them. All the questions and hope that they got always got trashed. She had no answers, and it always bad her feel worse. She knew nothing that could help them. So, it was better to steer clear. Maddie looked at the boys seeing the exasperation in their eyes.               Â
âI donât know how Iâm sorry.â Maddie looked down. The trio shared a look feeling confused. âLook I really need to get to class. I wish I knew more.â She quickly walked around them heading for class. Just as she was able to turn the corner, Julie walked into the hallway in front of the boys. They pushed it away for the moment to congratulate Julie. They would table the new information for now.
____________________________________________________________
After school had finally ended Maddie hastily made her way to where she knew Willie hung out often. Looking around for the long-haired boy she couldnât see him.
âWoah! Look out Mads!â Willie road up beside her on his skateboard. His smile contagious as she smiled back. He took his helmet off and sat on the nearby bench. âHow was school?â
Maddie began to pace in front of him, âWillie, I saw these three boys and they know I can see them now! What am I supposed to do?? Theyâre friends with Julie, what am I going to do now. It was hard enough skating around her before, but of she finds out that I can see them then Iâm going to be in trouble!â Maddie threw her arms up as she rambled on. Willie stood up putting a hand on her shoulder to stop her wild movements.      Â
âCalm down!â He moved her to sit. âOkay first off, I might have actually met one of the boys I think.â His words causing Maddie to throw her head back. She let out a groan.   Â
âWhat do you mean you mightâve met one of them?â This whole situation giving her a headache. People who walked by giving her a strange look not knowing she wasnât talking to herself. Her bad day not letting her care as she gives them a glare that kept them walking. Today was just not her day.
âWell, while you were in school, I ran into a guy, quite literally, and he might have mentioned that he played with Julie. Donât worry! I played it cool. I havenât met Julie so itâs not like I was completely lying to him.â Willie had heard you talk about the girl who used to be close to him, but never saw her himself. He just knew what you had confided in him about. Alex seemed like a cool person so he was sure that Maddie wouldnât be too bad off having him see her. Willie hadnât mentioned her at all during their conversation, but the stories lined up enough for him to know it was Alex and his friends Maddie saw.
âWillie itâs just a lot all at once, I havenât even been able to bring myself to face Julie. What if sheâs mad at me, and now since I can see her bandmates, what if this causes a bigger problem?â Maddie looked at Willie. He could see the worry written on her face. He pulled her into a hug.
âHey, Iâm sure that Julie would just be happy to have you back in her life.â He said as he rubbed her back. âMaybe, this could be the thing to bring you guys back together.â Willie tried to reason. Maddie knew that he could be right. She just needed to finally talk to Julie.
âSoâŠâŠ.you thought he was cute huh.â Maddie didnât even have to see Willieâs face to know he was smiling. He laughed and shoved her shoulder away. âAll Iâm saying is that thereâs worse ghosts to spend time with.â Her words were true, not too many of the ghosts around here were their age or had a cute smile like Alex.
âI just met the guy, Mads! Heâs still figuring it all out.â Willie knew that Maddie could read him like a book.
âYeah, and maybe, he could use a little help from a not so bad looking skater guy I know.â Maddie sent him a wink, feeling her mood already lifting. These boys could maybe be good for both of them. Willie shook his head standing back up.
âYouâre trouble.â He placed board down mounting it. Maddie waved him off and stood up as well. Grabbing her backpack from the ground, giving him a smile as she flung it over her shoulder.
âI keep you feeling alive,â She gave him a funny look. As Maddie began to walk away, Willie shot her a look back, seeing the humor in her words. They said goodbye as Maddie felt a bit lighter having gotten a better outlook on the situation. All she knew was that many conversations needed to happen between her, Julie, and those boys.
Author's Note: This chapter is setting up a lot for the next one, so it'll be long one. Maybe we'll see some good moments of Maddie talking to Alex about a certain crush he has.
I never needed a season 2 so bad of a show the way I need season 2 of Julie and The Phantoms
Summary: What if 'Unsaid Emily' wasn't about his mother...
Author's Note: This is a bit of a long and sad one.
Warning: death of sibling
âLuke! You donât have to leave!â the girl yelled, tears streaming down her face. Her heart pounding in her ears as she watched him throw things in his bag.
âYou donât understand, Mom and Dad will never let me be in the band. You know I canât live without music.â Luke turned around. His face showing the distress. He hated being the reason for her tears, but else was he supposed to do. He wasnât giving up his dreams, no way. Not when they had all worked so hard and could almost taste their stardom. He finished packing and took a deep breath. âYou know I wouldnât be doing this if things were different. Thereâs no other way.â
The younger girl shook her head, âNo, youâre choosing the easy way out. Youâre leaving and you donât care about how Iâll be left behind.â Her voice heavy with betrayal. âYou donât know what youâre doing.â
âYouâre just like them! You donât believe in the band! You donât believe in meâŠâ his voice trailed off in hurt. He knows that you supported him from the very start, but in the moment, he felt as though you turned on him.
âThat is bull! I have supported you from the jump, no matter what you did. I canât believe you would even say that.â Luke stared at the bewildered look on her face. âYou know what! Go, leave and donât even think about how youâre leaving me behind. You obviously have better things to do.â The girl threw a shirt at him. Luke looked down and saw it was a Sunset Curve shirt. The one the whole band signed for her after she went to their first gig, screaming louder than anyone else.
Luke grabbed his bag and guitar, slinging them on his back. He turned to the door and without looking back said the last thing she would ever hear from him, âI always thought you were my biggest fan.â His hurt was evident through his words even if she couldnât see his face. Without knowing, they would never speak again.
______________________________________________________________
âWhoâs Emily?â Julie asked looking at Lukeâs songwriting book. Reggie and Alex shared a glance while Lukeâs eyes widened.Â
âThat one wasnât dog eared!â He tried to grab the book back, but Julie pulled it close to her. Her eyes scanned the lyrics quickly, seeing the emotional words written on paper. She felt bad reading it, feeling as though she was invading his space. She tried to play it off as a joke to lessen the feeling.       Â
âWow Luke, I didnât know you were such a romantic.â A grin spreading across her face. Julie could see Luke swallow harshly, looking like he was about to break into a sweat. Alex jumped up.
âThat ones actually about-â Luke smacking him cutting him off. Even though he had grown close to Julie, this isnât something he was ready to share. This song wasnât for everyone to hear, it was personal. One written over nights when he couldnât stop his mind from wondering back to the night he left. There was so much guilt and hurt poured into it. All the words he wished she could have heard from him.
Julie sensed the mood shift and tried to change the subject by turning the page to look at the next song. She knew this song was something close to Lukeâs heart, but didnât want to open that box yet. Maybe he would share it with her when he was ready.
Though, within weeks of knowing him, he still never brought it up. Alex and Reggie had taken her to his parentâs house to see how Luke was being town apart from leaving behind his parents. Julie connected the dots to the song, and it all made sense to her. Emily was his mom.
âJulie, it tore look apart to leave behind his parents.â Reggie told her, distraught over his face. They had all run away from their families while trying to pursue their dreams. Both the boys knew it was harder for Luke, he had left more behind.
âSo, Emily is his momâŠ.â Julie spoke softly looking at the two boys. Reggie and Alex shared a look. One full of remorse and heartache. Neither wanting to speak but felt they should.
âNo,â Alexâs voice broke, âEmily is Lukeâs sister.â Julieâs eyebrows furrowed.
âHis sister?â Luke hadnât brought up his sister before, though to be far he had never mentioned his parents much either. Both boys nodding their heads.
âIt killed him to leave his parents, but what broke him was never seeing his sister again,â Reggie felt the weight in his chest, âEmily was always by his side, supported him in chasing his music, but when he wanted to leave to travel, they got into an argument.â Alex looked down; he had always appreciated how much support she gave them. Always there front row, knowing all their songs. Even after his parents looked down upon him after coming out, Emily was there, telling him that who he loved didnât matter, if it was someone who loved him just as much.
Julie let their words settle in her mind. Luke never got to see you again before he died. That song was his apology to you, no wonder he didnât want her to read it. She wouldnât have wanted him to read hers if the roles were reversed. After they had left Lukeâs Julie couldnât stop thinking about the song, or Luke. She felt as though the band had given her so much, bringing her love for music back. Maybe she could give Luke something back in return.
After a couple of days, Julie had found it. She had found Emilyâs house. As she walked up to the porch Luke appeared at the same time. His eyes pouring into hers with surprise.     Â
âJulie? Whatâre you doing here?â He sounded stressed. She wasnât supposed to be here. Julie gave him a sad smile.
âAlex and Reggie told me about Emily after I saw you at your parents.â She confessed, eyes looking towards the ground.
âYou followed me? After your speech about boundaries?â Luke couldnât help the frustration in his voice. Julie was one of the closest people to him, but this was a lot to expose to her.
âYou visit her?â Julie asked softly, trying to get him to open up to her. Julie didnât want to overstep. Luke closed his eyes not wanting Julie to see the tears gathering there.
âI havenât been able to make it past the door,â He spoke barely above a whisper. âAfter leaving, I donât know if I can face her again. So, I just stand here, hoping maybe, she will walk out.â Luke shared; he couldnât hold it in anymore. His guilt eating him from inside. Julie stepped a bit closer to him making him look up at her slowly. He let out a breath.
âI donât even know what I would say to her if she could hear me.â His voice broken as his vison clouded.
âTrust me.â Julie looked in his eyes with s softness that made Luke nod. He stepped over and rang the doorbell while keeping his eyes on hers. A promise in their eyes.
The door opened a second later, revealing a woman with a confused look. She looked every bit like look. The same brown hair and wide, brown eyes. Lukeâs breath hitched as he looked at her for the first time in 25 years. Though to him it was only an hour he was away, but she had grown up. His younger sister now older.
âHello, can I help you?â Emily asked Julie confused on why a young girl would be stopping by. Julie gave a soft smile.
âDid you have a brother named Luke?â Julie watched as the confusion turned into sadness. Emilyâs eyes casting down as her mouth opened slightly. Luke wanted to say, âEmily Iâm right here, Iâm sorry for leaving you.â But the words wouldnât have been heard. So instead, he let his eyes watch her, holding his breath.
âI did,â Emily said looking back up at Julie. A sad smile forming on her face. Julie felt the piece of paper become heavier in her hands. The weight of what she was about to do becoming clear. âWhy do you ask?â
âHe used to play in my garage, and I found something that I think belongs to you.â Julie lifted the paper up; Emilyâs eyes fell on it. She gave a small nod and opened the door wider.
âWould you like to come in?â Emily stepped back and allowed Julie, and unknowingly to her, Luke to enter. Julie nodded back and entered. As she walked in her eyes caught a picture frame sitting on a side table. She picked it up and looked at it closely.
âIs this Luke? And the band?â Julieâs gaze sweeping over the boys she had started to call family. The picture was of a younger version of Emily throwing her arms around the boys after what looked like a show. Emily stepped over and looked as well.
âYeah, thatâs the boys after one of their gigs. They were so happy with how many people came to see them.â
Luke wanted to say âWe were happy you showed up tooâ
Emily smiled as she remembered the day well. âIâve never seen a band play like them before. I was their biggest fan.â Luke closed his eyes wishing that he could go back to that day. Back to before everything got bad. âIâm sorry what was your name?â
âOh, um, Iâm Julie.â Julie could feel Lukeâs sadness, making her heartbreak. âI was looking through all of the old boxes and came across a song.â She held up the paper, âItâs for Emily.â
Emily felt her chest clench as she looked down at the paper Julie started to hand to her. It took everything in her not to turn away and refuse to look at it. Luke has been gone for so long, but the wound still felt fresh. The love would never fade. Emily looked at Julie uncertain, but Julie gave her a small encouraging nod. With that, Emily took the old paper, feeling as though it weighed 100 pounds. She took a deep breath before letting her eye fall onto the words scribbled across. Â Luke knew the words all too well. He spent hours hunched over it, pouring everything he had into it.
As Emily read over it, it was like she could hear Lukeâs voice singing it to her. All the guilt and pain. But, also, all the love that he had for her. Tears began to fall as she felt so much closer to her brother than she said felt in years. The words bringing back the fight that she had wished had gone differently. All the memories of her and Luke. When she finished, Lukeâs voice fading away, she looked back up at Julie. She could feel that somehow Julie heard it too. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
âThank you, you donât know how much this means to me,â Emily took a deep breath, âLuke was my best friend. I only wanted him to get all he wanted from life.â Julie felt Luke behind her as he struggled with wanting to reach out to Emily. His face covered in his own now fallen tears.
âI write music in the same place he did. I can tell you that the place is filled with so much light and happiness. Luke found the one thing he wanted to live for, and I donât think a lot of people get to do that.â Julie too had begun to cry. All the love around the room affecting her.
Emily pulled Julie into a soft hug and closed her eyes, âThank you so much Julie. I know that Luke would be so happy that youâre there writing.â Julie knew that she couldnât have been more right. Luke gave one last look towards his sister before vanishing. If only she knew that Luke had been right outside her door all along.
Julie made it back home to see Luke sitting on her porch. She walked up as he looked up from the ground towards her. Â Â Â Â
âIâm sorry for overstepping.â Julie stood next to him as he shook his head.
âNo, Julie, thank you. I just wish she knew how much I love her and miss her. I never meant to walk out and never be able to see her again.â Luke said guiltily.
âI think she knows, Luke.â Julie said making Luke feel a bit lighter. Emily was his biggest regret, but now he felt a bit of closure knowing she had heard his song for her.

Chapter two: Maddie Makes Eye Contact
*Author's Note: Chapter two!! I hope this chapter isn't too much exposition, I promise more character interaction is coming up.
A year ago, Maddie had a different air around her. She felt as though life could get better. Most days dragged on and were filled with long school days and homework. Those were balanced out with the ones she could find solitude. Maddie had gotten a babysitting job on the occasion her neighbors needed a date night, and their aunt wasnât available.  The Molinaâs were her saving grace. When the had first moved in with a new baby and toddler, Maddie could listen to the sound of piano through her window.
One day after a trip to her latest psychologist, Maddie finally decided to go over and find the source to the music. She found a kind lady sitting in their garage lost in her melody. Rose Molina had a certain light about her that drew Maddie in. That day led to countless hours of Maddie sitting in the garage listening to anything Rose would play. She never knew music could have such a hold on her and her emotions. Rose could see how the young girl needed music in her life just as much as she did. From then on, she would teach Maddie whenever the girl stopped by. Even though Maddie loved her parents, Rose just understood her on a deeper level. Maddieâs parents stopped sending her to a doctor and instead bought her a piano.
When Roseâs daughter Julie got old enough to want to learn, they became a trio. Maddie could see how Julie was naturally gifted and would sit and watch as the mother and daughter wrote and played together. Julie felt as though she had a sister, one who she could share music with. Rose was thankful that she could pull these two girls together and loved their connection through musical notes and lyrics. Something so rare to see. But sadly, all good things come to an end.
Rose had passed, and this was felt through everyone around her. Julie couldnât bare singing or playing anymore without her mother. Maddie had felt as though she had lost a mother and friend with Rose. It seemed easy for the two girls to drift apart. Both had gained an emptiness with the passing and couldnât find the joy they once did. Maddie fell back into the cycle of long school days and homework. Her piano sat covered in dust and guitar stranded in the garage that she would never get the courage to go over and retrieve. Both felt lifeless now as had she. The stickers gifted by Rose still decorated the case, leaving a reminder to anyone who looked at it how loved the instrument used to be.
Unknown to Maddie, Julie had unleashed something that sparked her love for music again. Three boys who had died 25 years prior had taken up space in the garage and Julieâs life. The boys had asked Julie who the guitar belonged to since they didnât recognize it as theirs. Julie gave it a long look before mentioning that it was an old friend's from long ago. The boys didnât press further, even though they wanted to. They could feel the emotional pull Julie had with it.
______________________________________________________________
Maddie had a feeling today was going to be different. After her run in with the man in the street yesterday she didnât stop by to see Willie this morning. Something felt off about the situation. Maybe he was a ghost and didnât feel the need to deal with âlifersâ as Willie called them. As she crowded in to the school assembly, she just hoped it would be over soon. Carrie was performing, and even though the girl was talented, she focused way too much into the theatrics in Maddieâs opinion. There wasnât any depth to her music and Maddie believed that was the key to any good performer. Music just didnât feel the same since she last saw Rose or spoke to Julie. Her bonds with music were broken and she didnât feel the need to mend it. Sher forfeited her place in the music program to focus on school and trying to keep her parents at bay. They could see the emotional turmoil that was going on and tried to convince her that pushing away music isnât what was good for her. That Rose wouldnât want her to stop, but what did they know? Maddie said she knew what she was doing, or so she thought.
Just as she believed, Carrieâs performance was over the top. âWhat else did I expect?â She muttered to herself. Out of the corner of her eye, Maddie spotted Julie near the door. She felt her breathing stop for a second. Besides in quick passing, Maddie couldnât bring herself to face Julie. The girl was like a sister to her, and it didnât sit right that Julie had lost her mother while Maddie simply lost her friend. Julie had it worse and Maddie felt ashamed of herself for taking it so deep.          Â
Maddie looked over to Julie once more and saw she wasnât alone. She was with a group of boys. They seemed to be deep in conversation as the crowd had been sent back to class. She took another quick glance towards the group while still on the stands. Her eyes connected with the blonde boy. His eyes widened as he smacked the chest of the shorter brown-haired guy in the beanie. She quickly looked away and got up wanted to leave before Julie saw her.
âDude! That girl was 100% making eye contact with me!â Alex exclaimed pulling the groups attention. They all turned around to find Maddie hastily making her way off the bleachers. Julie furrowed her eyebrows at her.      Â
âWhat? Thereâs no way that she saw you.â Julie couldnât look away. She hasnât been able to talk to Maddie as much as she wanted to. Julie had lost a sister as much as a mother. Maddie pulling away from her broke her. She knew that Maddie felt the loss too and understood why she didnât want to play anymore.              Â
âNo, Iâm telling you, she was definitely looking at us.â Alex knew it wasnât like when people normally look towards them and accidentally meets their eyes.
âOkay whatever! That doesn't matter right now. Julie, you need to go up their and show it to the man! That piano up here is calling your name.â Luke tried to redirect the attention towards the main goal. Julie needed to be back in the program and find her love for music again. He wanted her to know how talented she was. Maybe then their music could be heard. Julie let out a nervous breath of air and headed up towards the stage. The boys cheering her on. As the crowd realized she was singing they all gathered at the stage.              Â
Maddie felt her heart pound in her chest as she watched the girl begin. She stood in the back and her eyes began to water. Little Julie was amazing. She knew that though, but to see her finally sing again struck a chord in her heart. She could feel Rose through every note. Maddie felt as though it was the first time that she sat in the garage with them again. But what shook her even more was when suddenly it wasnât just Julie on stage. The boys from before appeared and began to play. The crowd went wild as they all sang and played the song with passion. Maddie had never seen a band more in sync with each other. It looked like they had known each other for years and were in tune with not just the music, but each other. Her heart swelled with pride. Julie had found her way back.
As the band finished up taking their bow, they disappeared as if it had just been Julie by herself the whole time. Maddieâs eyes widened and she spotted the boys on the side of the crowd. No one knew what to say as Julie laughed nervously.
âWas that a hologram?â one of Carrieâs crew voiced out making everyone get hyped up once again. Maddie shook her head. She had no idea what just happened, but she knew that it wasnât a hologram. She could still see the boys from the side when it all hit her. They were ghosts.  Â

Chapter one: Ghosts Lead To Therapy
Hello! So, this story will be a multi-part series featuring an OC Maddie. Please give me feedback, I would greatly appreciate it <3
Maddie has always been able to see ghosts. What happens when she gets introduced to three boys that form a band with a girl she knows from her past?
To be completely honest, Maddie doesnât even know how she does it. When she was four, she had met a kind man in the store after losing her mom isles away. Maddie had tugged on his sleeve with tears falling down her cheeks and asked if he could help. To the gentlemenâs surprise he felt a touch for the first time in three weeks. Maddieâs mother had run over and grabbed her up before he could even begin to understand.
Since then, Maddie would have multiple talks with her parents about the people she would talk to that they couldnât see. A shrink here and there would help Maddie realize that no matter what she would say, they would tell her the same thing. âMaddie itâs all your imaginationâ, âMaddie do you really believe what youâre sayingâ, or her personal favorite, âMaybe you just need more attention at homeâ. All of this led to a simple conclusion for young Maddie, no more talking to ghosts. Or, in front of her parents at least.  Â
So thatâs where Maddie is now. A senior at Los Feliz High School, trying to keep her head down. No more music program and the less friends the better. No matter how hard she tried, no one would be permanent in her life. So, she decided it would be best to be on her own, for now at least. Maddie knew that she shouldn't waste her time on those who she felt didn't deserve it. The dead nor the living seemed to fit perfectly into her life. All she could count on was herself. Though, there was rarely an occasion Maddie would find herself an actual friend. There just so happened to be one ghost who she could call a friend. One who she would stop by to see on her walk to school. In all honesty, Maddie would take a detour to see him, forfeiting a couple minutes of her morning by taking the longer way.
"What up Madds!â the skateboarding ghoul rode up, bringing his board up to stand.
âWillie! How are you this fine morning? Sneaking into anymore museums?â  Maddie had a soft spot for the kid who died so recently. She doesnât remember ever hearing about it on the news, but Willie filled her in on the details one day when he rode right into her on his skateboard. He was more astonished that they could touch rather than actually talk. Willie had been sworn secrecy about it. Maddie would rather not have to speak to 200 ghosts asking her to reach out to their families. One episode of The Ghost Whisperer had made her want to stay away from that field.
âNot yet, but hey, the day is still youngâ Willie sent a wink her way. He was the closest person to her. They would spend countless hours after school hanging around. With him either showing off tricks or her ranting about school and her parents. He understood how sheâd rather be by herself rather than seek out others, he respected that. Willie himself was a free spirit (kind of). Maddie was aware how he was tied to the Hollywood Ghost Club. She felt bad that his soul belonged to Caleb, never wanting to catch a glimpse of him or have him see her, so she tried to stay as far away to the place as she could. The stories of Caleb Covington sent chills down her spine.
âWell, I would love to hear about it after I get back from school. Donât miss me too much skater boy!â Maddie started to walk backwards only stopping to do their handshake. Willie gave her a sarcastic salute as she turned around. Maddie continued her walk as she bumped into someone. âOh gosh Iâm so sorry!â She apologized to the man before continuing. The man stood still before turning towards her.
âMy apologizes Maâam.â The dark tone not registering to Maddie as she kept walking. Willie froze as he watched the exchange. The man turned and straightened himself out before looking Willie in the eyes. âWell well well, looks like youâve made an interesting friend.â
âMr. Covington, um sir, I was just talking. I promise I didn't say anything,â Willie casted his eyes towards to ground. He was not one that had the courage to face the man himself. He wouldn't put Maddie in jeopardy willingly.
âOh no Willie, I think youâve stumbled upon something very interesting. Please do tell me more.â
