Turns out writing a spy story is hard 🤣 I have spent half the morning and a few hours last night trying to figure out getting something to work in “Low Lays the Devil in Me.” This one is a bit harder to make up as I go. I was worried I had boxed myself into a corner, but I have a plan now!

In the few hours since I’ve posted the last chapter of “Low Lays the Devil in Me” and thus wrapping up that series, a few people have asked in the comments if I’ll do any one shots or anything like that in the AU.

While I love and appreciate that people really like my version the Arcane/LoL world and characters, I do not see myself doing anything else in this AU. I almost never say never, but it’s highly unlikely.

I am very happy and satisfied with where this story has ended and I’ve never been one milk a story just cuz I like the world/characters. To me, Caitlyn and Vi’s story in this world is complete and I don’t have any desire to further it.

“Tell me, Officer Kiramman, do you find fulfillment in your occupation?” “Fulfillment, ma’am?” Caitlyn asked as Corina weaved through rows of colorful plants. “Yes, personally, I mean. Do you wake up every day with a sense of purpose and go to sleep every night with the knowledge that you are making your mark on this world?” Caitlyn thought about her answer carefully and decided to play it safe. “Would you even believe me if I told you that I do?” she replied with a sardonic smirk. Corina stopped and pulled out a few weeds from a beautiful batch of yellow bulb plants that Caitlyn recognized as tulips. When she was finished, she looked at Caitlyn. Her dark eyes, Caitlyn realized, were speckled with beautiful gold flakes that anyone could get lost in, should she choose to weaponize them. “If you were an ordinary citizen, perhaps I would believe you,” she finally answered. “But to go from the pinnacle of Piltover political power to the banality of chasing down petty criminals in the Undercity? Then no, I don’t believe that someone like you would find that fulfilling.”

When Vi and Caitlyn are caught up in an explosion from an Arcane stone after Vi broke into some rich Piltie’s apartment, a magical bond is formed between them and won’t let them be further than 15 feet apart from one another, physically—and dangerously—wrenching them back together if they try. With the study of magic banned in Piltover, learning how to undo it will not be an easy task and they must remain close to each other until the bond is dissolved. Vi is angry that she is forced to be tethered to some privileged Piltie and, while Caitlyn is excited to finally meet someone from Zaun, she is quickly disillusioned by how unfairly Vi treats her for something that wasn’t her fault. Can the two teenagers learn to get along until their tether can be broken? Or will this magical bond only cause a bigger rift to divide two people from opposite sides of the city?

Caitlyn felt her breath hitch ever so slightly at how handsome this burglar was and prayed that the other woman hadn’t heard it. “Thanks for potentially saving my dissertation,” she replied. There was an awkward pause and Caitlyn got the bizarre feeling that the woman didn’t actually want to leave. Caitlyn was surprised that she didn’t want her to leave, either. It lasted only a moment before the stranger lowered herself down partially. She looked up at Caitlyn one more time with a more serious expression. “You should lock your balcony. The next burglar may not be as nice.”

Inspired by this post. I'll get back to writing "Low Lays the Devil in Me" soon, but I think someone needs to take my keyboard away from me because I have a problem. And bring me an ice pack for my poor hands.
