It’s truly incredible!

happy anniversary to the story that has stolen my heart. two years ago i posted the introduction post for when twilight strikes. today, i am uploading part one of chapter nine, which features an additional 11,900 words added and a whole lot of chaos. you can find it here (!!).

to say this chapter has been difficult is an understatement, but i truly think it’s unlike anything i’ve written so far and will live up to your expectations. what i’m giving you today is only a small snippet, but i’m super excited to release it fully for you in the future. i appreciate all of your patience.

Imo the most important thing a writer (or any artist) can be is earnest. You can have no technical skill whatsoever and write a complete stinker and you'll still have a story some readers will fall in love with, so long as they can tell you really meant it and really gave it a shot. Everything else is artifice.

The Northern Passage has been updated!

01.10.23: The first part of chapter 2 is now available to play over on itch.io. This includes the Blackwater route only. To access the new content, ensure that you choose to stay in Blackwater rather than leave for Highfell. Saves should work - though I advise you to still keep a save at the end of chapter 1, since any later updates to chapter 2 will require you to play from the start of the chapter again.

Along with the new content, various edits include:

The companions will now introduce themselves with their pronouns, as well as various other characters - Branwen, Mal, Hawkell, etc.

Edited the input process for hunters that use no pronouns. This should help clean up any clunky sentences where the companions talk to/about the hunter as well as allow for the hunter to properly introduce themself with just their name.

A new codex entry on Magic.

Alchemists can now choose to have hand tattoos (though the continuity for this has yet to be fixed).

New content warnings include animal death. This is only in one path, and it is avoidable, relying entirely on the player choosing whether it happens or not.

hi hi!! i hope everyone has had a wonderful last couple of days of the year. i’ve seen so much growth and love for this project over the past couple of months so as a gift to all of you, i’ve written a new year’s eve special that will release publicly january 7, 2023 (before noon EST). it is already up for those on the midnight tier on patreon and will be released sometime on sunday for the twilight tier. only those in those tiers will have access to page until the story is released for the public.

OK, so I was messing around with chatGPT is an AI model that’s truly terrifying (try it here), and I made it write haikus for me. I’m not sure if this is amusing or scary, but it’s also ironic that in the process of registering an account with ChatGPT I was asked to identify photos with chimneys to prove that I’m not a bot, and failed 3 times.

CHAPTER 4: SYSBA'S ROUTE IS NOW AVAILABLE

I'm very pleased to announce that, after a brief bout of burnout, the demo has now been updated to include the first of the five routes!

This update includes:

Treating yourself to some new clothes, embracing nature (perhaps a bit too much), or getting in-tune with your artistic side.

Trying to figure out why terrible things keep happening (it's getting quite ridiculous)

Embracing the trials and tribulations of a fashion show

Dealing with an emotionally-unintelligent eldritch horror

Other house business:

Just the usual tidying up of code, bugs, and minor discrepancies!

The next route planned will be Operator; voting for the one after is available on patreon. The word-count now sits at 450, 647 with an additional 43k added in this route.

Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

I was walking through the toy aisle at Target when I found this thing and had a VIOLENT AND IMMEDIATE FLASHBACK to when JP first came out and they had a bunch of REALLY COOL T Rex toys that I would have sold one of my scrawny small-child limbs for but my mother wouldn’t get me one because they were “too violent and also ate people” :(
