one must imagine sisyphus locking in
was talking to my gf about my fear of dying young for being trans and my mom putting my deadname on my gravestone, and she said "i hope that never happens, but if it does, i will carve your name into your grave myself if i have to." and i think theres something extremely raw about that sentiment and trans community in general. you can kill only our bodies, but you cant kill transsexuality
"Morticia and Gomez are T4T" "Jessica and Roger Rabbit are T4T" sure sure whatever but I GENUINELY cannot see Seymour and Audrey as anything other than T4T. What cis man is named Seymour????
I was bored in class
something harrowing and ironic about the fact that people are misinterpreting this post and yelling at her about how STEM is important.
please learn to read.
things that happened to me when i was a woman in STEM:
an advisor humiliated me in front of an entire lab group because of a call I made in his place when he wouldn't reply to my e-mails for months
he later delegated part of my master's thesis work to a 19-year old male undergrad without my approval
a male scientist at a NASA conference looked me up and down and asked when i was graduating and if i was open to a job at his company. right before inquiring what my ethnicity was because i "looked exotic"
a random male member of the public began talking over me and my female advisor, an oceanographer with a pHD and decades of experience, saying he knew more about oceanography than us
things that have happened to me since becoming a man in STEM:
being asked consistently for advice on projects despite being completely new to a position
male colleagues approaching me to drop candid information regarding our partners / higher ups that I was not privy to before
lenience toward my work in a way I haven't experienced before. incredible understanding when I need to take time off to care for my family.
conference rooms go silent when I start talking. no side chatter. I get a baseline level of attention and focus from people that's very unfamiliar and genuinely difficult for me to wrap my head around.
like. yes some PI's will still be assholes regardless of the gender of their subordinates but, I've lived this transition. misogyny in STEM is killing women's careers, and trans men can and do experience male privilege.
*nonbinary person calls themself lesbian* "only women can be lesbian!"
*nonbinary person calls themself gay* "you're not attracted to the same gender though!"
*nonbinary person calls themself straight* "that doesn't make any sense!"
*nonbinary person calls themself trixic* "made up label!"
*nonbinary person calls themself toric* "unnecessary label!"
*nonbinary person calls themself gynosexual/romantic/etc.* "you're equating women with vaginas!"
*nonbinary person calls themself androsexual/romantic/etc.* "you're reducing men to penises!*
*nonbinary person calls themself skoliosexual/romantic/etc.* "nonbinary doesn't have a look! you can't be attracted to nonbinary people!"
*nonbinary person calls themself bi* "you're reinforcing the gender binary!"
*nonbinary person calls themself pan* "you're othering transgender people!"
*nonbinary person calls themself poly* "you're just trying to be special!"
*nonbinary person calls themself omni* "that's not a real thing!"
*nonbinary person calls themself ace/aro* "you're just a cisgender heterosexual invading the community!"
*nonbinary person calls themself queer* "that's too vague!"
*binary person uses a label to explicitly express attraction to nonbinary people* "you're fetishising nonbinary people!"
the thread that ties them all together isn't that our labels are wrong or don't make sense, it's that you don't want us to exist and hate on us no matter what we do.
Thoughts on Sinners (2025):
I would like to thank god and Wunmi Mosaku's titties
Me when I saw Bo Chow:
This is probably Ryan Coogler's horniest film to date, and I love that
Holy shit, the sound mixing 🙌🏻
After hating on the White Americans, the French and the Spaniards in the Black Panther films, Ryan Coogler really turned to the Irish and said, "don't worry, I didn't forget about yall too!!"
3 words - Choctaw. Vampire. Hunters. Ryan Coogler, I demand a prequel
No but the Choctaw Vampire Hunters were hilarious. They can't be bothered to put in the labour to help the kkk couple. They really went, "you invited it, you deal with it. Godspeed." And peaced the fuck out ✌🏻 good for them
And the scene of the kkk couple inviting the Remmick the Irish vampire into their home while holding guns to the Choctaw pple even tho the Choctaw pple were trying to warn them? Perfect symbolism for how White pple would rather shoot themselves in the foot than listen to people of colour
Jayme Lawson's married ass getting her pussy eaten out by the male ingenue character, I support women's rights and women's wrongs 🫡
Me when the White music kinda slapped:
When Cornbread started going on about love and unity when he returned from peeing in the trees, I nearly yelled, "oh my god he's in the sunken place!!"
When the Irish vampire started river dancing during a tense moment:
The contrast between Sammie's music bringing pple/spirits of different times and cultures together while Remmick's is front and center in his ghoulish dance scene
Also the vampires only singing Remmick's songs but not songs from their respective communities even tho he preached about love and unity. Remmick speaking Cantonese only to threaten the Chinese shop owner.
The vampire hivemind being a metaphor for how White supremacy erases the uniqueness of different cultures to create the singular culture of whiteness
Remmick the victim of forced anglicisation of Ireland, Remmick the settler on Indigenous American land, Remmick who violently attempts to exploit a Black man's music to hear his (white) Irish kin again. Ryan Coogler, your mind
Sammie's music 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼 Annie's hoodoo religion being a bridge to the ancestors and the homeland. But while Sammie's music invites danger becos it can be exploited, Annie's spiritual beliefs helps them in contrast to how hoodoo has been demonised and dismissed
When the credits started rolling:
sinners (2025) teaches us two very important lessons:
1) true liberation cannot be achieved through assimilation. while remmick’s character is sympathetic due to the pain he feels as the result of his own people’s experience with colonialism, his goal to use sammy’s music for his own purposes would have been just as violent and oppressive. he (justifiably) hated the english for forcing their way of life onto his people, and yet here he is trying to do the same to sammy and everyone else at the juke joint. to flatten their individuality, erase their history, and force them to enact that same violence against others. his idea of liberation literally turned their bodies into prisons for their souls.
2) eat pussy!!!!
if sinners (2025) taught me anything, it's that it IS actually always about race.
you can be oppressed, and still promote and maintain the very same systems of oppression onto other marginalized people. being oppressed in one dimension doesn't allow you to be exempt from oppressing in other dimensions. the "villain" of the movie, remmick, being from the time period of the english colonization of ireland, all the while wanting to take a piece of sammie's own culture from him, use him for it. and this plot point coming after remmick witnesses the significance of sammie's playing within his culture, for his ancestors and how it would shape Black culture in the future.
even in today's society, ive noticed that people treat Black people like a commodity. our worth is only as much as other people decide it to be, and that's usually dependent on how much the oppressor can take from us. for example, the controversy of"internet slang" and how it is blatantly just AAVE with a bad disguise on
do you listen to Black musicians? do you watch Black movies? do you engage with Black creators? do you defend the racist tendencies you notice in your friends, in your family, or do you stay silent? do you listen when Black people tell you you've said or done something racist? do you actually care about not being racist, or do you just not want to look like you're racist?
i just think people have a very specific take on what racism is, and that if they're not committing KKK-levels of violence on people, then they're not racist. or if you've experienced oppression in one form, you cannot possibly be engaging with oppression in another form. but the ways in which we interact with other people and the world will always be through the lens of race, because that is simply what it means for oppression to be systemic, especially in the US and our current political climate
anyway 10/10 movie. highly recommend
some days you cannot help but pity some people
How is calling someone “attention seeking” an insult quite literally the majority of social interactions are seeking attention. Gossiping about someone else by calling them “attention seeking” is attention seeking. Im seeking attention by even making this post
> sees complaints that a female character looks "too masculine" or "like an ugly lesbian"
> ask if we got an actual butch character or if shes just a normal looking woman that isnt wearing make up and a dress
> person is visibly confused, i start explaining the difference between actual butch presentation and dress and a woman simply dressing comfortably to avoid indecent exposure
> person laughs and says "she straight up looks like a guy, i can barely tell her apart from the actual men"
> google the character
> shes just a normal looking woman that isnt wearing make up and a dress
"ohh 00s diet culture isn't back because of ozempic, you're overreacting"
idk i keep seeing previously size-inclusive brands remove plus-sized versions of their clothes from their catalogues entirely, even lines specifically aimed at bigger sizes are cutting their size range down and chopping the bigger ones. i keep seeing mean skinny tiktokers get famous because they said something rude about fat people. when i ask my doctor about weight loss (which my country's gender treatment clinic requires before i can access even preliminary talks about hrt), i'm immediately offered drugs about it - drugs which, according to the doctor, we don't know the long-term effects of. but surely! surely it can't be worse than being fat!
like why are people acting surprised? we've made being extremely wealthy the aspirational aesthetic to strive for, made 'being skinny and having a lot of time and money to stay beautiful' a not only viable but lucrative carreer for people, and then released a drug that is wildly expensive and will make people thin.
of course people are gonna make being thin the ultimate status symbol again - it more than ever before signals wealth and leisure-time.
like, do you think it's a coincidence that people are back to constantly spouting 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels' again? and pretending being fat is a matter of lacking self-control around cake or whatever? as if people haven't spent decades trying to get these fucks to understand that actually healthy produce and the time to maintain your body are extreme luxuries in our society?
anyway my broke fat ass can't find pants i like and can afford because the size-inclusive lines i'd have shopped at previously have axed anything over a size xl
and like. i'm not even that fat. what the fuck do people bigger than me do. it's really heinous right now for fat peeps.
idk where all of this weed-smoke discourse erupted from, but “weed is fine and you shouldn’t be a snitch about it” and “don’t burn plant matter in public spaces where someone you don’t know might have, like, a lung condition” are two sentiments that can and do coexist. i have asthma and i hang out with stoners pretty much constantly. i’ve never felt the urge to snitch and no one has ever blatantly disrespected my avoidance of smoke. they’re always eager to help keep it away from me when needed, which isn’t difficult to do. i hate to say this, but my only takeaway from a hypothetical scenario in which a stoner is blasting weed smoke in public like a dragon and an asthmatic feels the need to involve the cops is that both individuals are unpleasant and i don’t want to be around either of them lmao
“Normal” test results are not the relief people think they are. When you wake up in pain and continue to be in pain for hours every day and your tests come back normal you don’t stop being in pain.
joel miller character of all time. he pays for his therapy sessions with weed. he wears reading glasses. he body checked a senior citizen for calling his not-daughter a slur. who is doing it like him.
