Hadn’t seen this one before, very tense and creepy. Poor bunny.
In the 1990 movie Marked For Death, Steven Seagal must take down a Jamaican druglord named Screwface. In it, there are a lot of Jamaicans, and when they talk about Screwface, it is awesome. At the risk of seeming insensitive to the Hollywood portrayal of Jamaicans, I’ll tell you I have a phrase that I often say whenever I hear the word face, and that is “witch ya scroo feese mon.”
Anyway, I’m working on a face / avatar generator app for the iphone and ipad. I’m pretty pumped about it. Below is the loading screen, homepage and main face-making page. I like the style and am starting to crank out the assets. Hope you like it - coming soonish!
Bird 3: Double-crested Cormorant
Chugging along on birds. Here is a bit of beak detail for the big water bird. I’ve made all these birds pretty happy looking - this guy wins for that so far.
June - Turtie Needs Work.
Continuing the 2015 calendar project, June is Turtie from Steve Wolfhard’s Turtie Needs Work. We love this minicomic beyond reason and I can only pretend to make a strip as good as the originals. Here it is. That’s 6 months, half of 2015 down and printed. More coming, obvs.
I was working on some icons for a live music app today and somehow I got to messing around. What isn’t surprising is that skulls were the subject of my messing around.
Bird 2: Rock Pigeon
The indefatigable Rock Dove a.k.a Rock Pigeon a.k.a “Pigeon” a.k.a a lot of awful names. The quintessential New York City bird is up for today’s small part of the large Birds Of Brooklyn poster set I’m working on. I hope you’ll keep tagging along as I uncover more of the avian element of where I and so many nature lovers call home (even though we should be living somewhere a lot more natural if we’re honest with ourselves). Thank goodness for Prospect Park.
More art in a long line of art for DJ Lani Love. This mix was done for the nail art magazine Tipsyzine. They're both pretty excellent at what they do, so head over and check out the pretty wicked nail art and Lani's other mixes. Yeah, and don't forget to actually look at the album art!
Recently had several conversations with folks about the history and current state of the Bond franchise. I'm a pretty huge fan of the series as a whole, but could be a whole lot happier about the current choices being made about the (historically) suave and cunning spy in the suit.
Good good, Good bad, Bad bad: Daybreakers
I watch a fair amount of movies. Most of them are bad movies. This is just something I do. This segment is devoted to all the movies I view. Last night I watched Daybreakers in which Willem Dafoe is cured of vampirism after being launched from a wrecking car, catching on fire from the sun’s rays and being extinguished moments later in a dirty waterway… It does get pretty gruesome at the end. Overall, this qualifies as a “Good bad” movie. It was pretty easy making Ethan Hawke look freakish; the hard part was making Willem Dafoe look remotely human.
BEATLES UPDATE!
I redid the Beatles print because I wanted it to be a little more get-able for folks, and this one's 60% less money. Also, it looks real great in black and white (with some nice texture), especially given the subject matter. Perfect for any BeatleManiac in your life. Get it in the shop!
MOVIE POSTER
Big holiday gift for my girlfriend this year was my own rendition of a movie poster for Jacques Demy’s lovely Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Really pleased with how it came out and made me work really big - final was 27x40 inches. Also really forced me to come up with a script I liked and could duplicate across several signatures. Liked it so much I hope that jaggedy cursive can be my own.
