Bird 3: Double-crested Cormorant

Chugging along on birds. Here is a bit of beak detail for the big water bird. I’ve made all these birds pretty happy looking - this guy wins for that so far.

FEBRUARY - Lord Akira.

Continuing the 2015 calendar I'm making of comic book characters my girlfriend admires. All building designs taken from the insanely talented Katsuhiro Otomo. It was nearly impossible to follow his level of detail and organization of thousands of lines. To counteract the pain I felt rendering those buildings, I went a bit looser on Akira. Tried some screentone, ended up not applying it heavily enough, but was pretty pleased with the final result. You can track the months here.

A New Mix For The Season. The Previous Soul Mix Was Pretty Great, But This One Folks, Phew. I Also Got

A new mix for the season. The previous soul mix was pretty great, but this one folks, phew. I also got pretty obsessive (shocker) about sweetening these old vinyl rips, seeing as though they were flat as all get out. Nothing fancy other than that, just ten excellent soul songs from the 60s & 70s. Please enjoy.

Bird 8: American Crow

Bird 8: American Crow

Many birds very common to New York fall into the recognized nuisance category. These birds, like the pigeon, the sparrow and the gull, are at times nearly invisible to the average person. Many of us only notice these common birds when they are actively in our way or bothering us in some way. Studying and drawing these birds in great detail has given me a greater respect for them - probably the feeling I had when I was younger and didn’t have any bird-stories yet; about how this one did this yucky thing, or wouldn’t move because it’s superdumb. They really are pretty incredible, even the American Crow, the dogged black sheep of the bird world. This marks the half way point for the Common Birds of Brooklyn poster. Phew, more to come.

This Is An Alternate Look For The Upcoming Art For DJ Lani Love's New Summer Mixtape. In This Version,

This is an alternate look for the upcoming art for DJ Lani Love's new summer mixtape. In this version, the text for Lani Love is large and interacts with the front row of trees. I really liked this treatment but also have to admit that Ms Love was right in requesting a smaller, more cohesive nametag down at the bottom. Final version coming soon.

I Have Begun The Super Trip, Wherein Myself And Two Friends Travel From Seattle To Los Angeles Via Car

I have begun the Super Trip, wherein myself and two friends travel from Seattle to Los Angeles via car and bicycle. The first day wasn’t so exciting because it involved getting to JFK, sitting in an aeroplane for 6 hours then settling in at the friend’s apartment in Seattle. There is so much to come on this trip, and I plan to post some drawings.

Continuing the 2015 calendar project, this month is Akira! Again. Just a very important comic (to me and recipient of all these cal pages!). Did lots and lots of texture on this bad boy and bloomy light effects (new to my work stuff). Different styling and very pleased with the outcome. More comin’.

I Was Working On Some Icons For A Live Music App Today And Somehow I Got To Messing Around.  What Isn’t

I was working on some icons for a live music app today and somehow I got to messing around.  What isn’t surprising is that skulls were the subject of my messing around.

Bird 11: Yellow-rumped Warbler

Bird 11: Yellow-rumped Warbler

This is a fun bird that you see pretty often. The "yellow-rumped warbler" category is often used to generally classify a group of four different warbler varieties, if you needed to know that. This is one of the cute ones. I have the Birds of Brooklyn poster nearly all laid out with type and everything. Should be rolling it out real soon.
