Julia was one of the strongest woman of Shin Makoku. And, if she, at the very least, shares even one trait with Yuuri- which she most obviously does, including a more valiant spirit than him- then I don't think sitting still would be in her list of options. And I think her death might've been orchestrated. I don't think she'd just let herself die like that even under pressure.

In essence, Shinou's a jerk and a tyrant. He should really mend his ways a bit.

Thoughts on Susannah Julia?

Here’s my thing with Julia: we only know about her through other people’s words. I would totally take a full novel with her story from her point of view any day.  (Would have been preferable over that ”the facade of the lady whatevs” )

Also, I feel like there are inconsistencies about her, especially when it comes to her death:

Would you really be ‘happy’ to die to let some rando become maou? What? She was gonna get married. She had trained a ton throughout her life (80+ years I calculated). She got a position in the military despite her blindness. She was a bad-ass. She fought bears. She had friends, a life, a future. She was one of the three great witches… Why couldn’t SHE be the new maou?

And here’s another inconsistency: Shinou told Conrad that Julia said she wanted him to carry her soul to earth, BUT…. according to Gunter in novel 1 ‘Yuuri’s soul’ was supposed to be reborn in Shin Makoku, but because ‘there were people who tried to take the soul , political issues, etc’ Shinou DECIDED 'after the fact’ that the new maou was going to be born on earth…. SO… how could Julia have known the future (Yuuri born on Earth) if, allegedly, not even Shinou knew?

Furthermore, considering the last novel, novel 17, where Shinou is pressuring Wolf (to allegedly practice to control his box) to keep a secret from Yuuri, “or else Yuuri and his family gets it”, I wonder if Shinou didn’t do the same to Julia and said: “Aight girl, either you die or Adalbert”, and that’s how she “happily gave her life” -> for Adalberts.

Who would be happy to die for someone who you know nothing about? What if Yuuri was an asshole? A tyrant? A piece of shit? How could she had known?! And she was young, in love, engaged! Loved by everyone, it seems.

I also have my serious doubts about Cherie, and how much she has been Shinou’s hand on land to get things happening .

Oops! She magically chose the 3 descendants of the 3 keys? And guess what? She befriended the 4th key… well well well. Isn’t that a nice little coincidence? And she also called in Conrad to get his opinion on the dress. Oopsie daisies, it must be all that air in her head. And then Julia died.

Seems pretty fishy to me.

So my opinion on Julia: She was probably cool af. She studied a lot to be one of the best, so that’s also pretty chill. I believe she was probably forced to kill herself through some sort of manipulation and wasn’t actually ‘happy’ about dying. And what I can say is that I don’t believe a word from Shinou’s mouth, even if I don’t know what really happened to her.

The part about Yuuri and Wolfram belonging to Greta before themselves is so true and so sweet♡

The daughter of Izura, the daughter of Svelera, the daughter of the demon king.. dear little Greta.

Much went wrong very early in her life. All she wanted was to belong to someone. But being the daughter of an entire country meant something very different- it did not mean love and comfort, but responsibility and an impossible task of proving oneself worthy of love. Thankfully, that painful journey led her back to her childhood. And it brought her two fathers closer together to create a family - before Yuuri and Wolfram belonged to each other, they belonged to Greta.

Down that road from outside the Bloodpledge castle where Huber left her to inside the heart of everyone that lived in it, Greta found where she belonged.

PS: this is what I think Greta looks like, all grown up. ❤

PPS: I'm not too good with drawing anime characters (or anything else, really) and I'm just too scared to even attempt for fear of messing them up. But I tried anyway. 😅🙈

Few things about Yuuri

This is just a small post about “Maybe author was hinting about Yuuri’s sexuality(and type?)” and here it goes.

I will start with the pillow, remember there was a story in which magical pillows were mentioned. You can select a pillow and if you have maryoku you will have a certain “themed” dream depending on the type of pillow. In that story Yuuri used the silver pillow and he did see something from his past life meaning the pillow worked!  

Then we have the Mise Ma Show where we saw that Yuuri  wanted to have a lewd dream with a girl but ends up having Wolf and Conrad in his dreams! I mean he wanted girls but sees guys with him! What if this was just a way of author slipping “Hey hey you see Yuuri might be into guys not girls!” We know that the other pillows did work and the others got their result. So the pillow working should be a hint? 

There was also this in Dual at Ma Noon  “ There was no way that confessing my teenage preference in lewd dream !”. But I am not sure if he was talking about the “lewd dream” or the ”guys”.

Finally, there is also Because We’re Young the part they were talking about not seeing Rated-R dreams and Yuuri is/was always like “I like mature girls” and ends up seeing himself with a fierce person. Type much? I know the conversation sort of changes to where Yuuri is saying,”this and that is also my type?“ but you get my point. Also, he never gets to the main part with the girls in his dreams XD! I mean never ever according to this story.

The reason I listed the time line is because from Novel 9 I saw a considerable amount of change in how Yuuri was behaving or interacting  with Wolf. So maybe author was trying to slide such things or maybe it was just for comedy XD!  I know Maru Ma is an adventure story I highly doubt we will get a side where Yuuri will be like “I thought I only liked girls then I realised….” dun dun dun!!!!!! At this point we don’t need it but just think about it if we ever get it “…then he entered my life…” XD!

Ignore the lack of shading and colouring. I just outlined it. Someday, when I start digital art then I'll correct this. It didn't turn out that well, but it is decent- so it's fine.

Volume 15, Chapter 8:

He’s about to say something formal again so I pat his back hard without hesitation, and it gives me a feeling of reality, like “Ah—right here”. I’m here, and so is Wolfram.

“Because we’re already back.”

We’re all here, be it Conrad, Murata… or Josak.

“I can’t say for all of it, but I brought us back with my own strength.”

“Uh-huh.”

The sea breeze caresses Wolfram’s hair, and he nods his head firmly in reply, very naturally extending his hand to me, standing on the side of the port,

“Come home, everyone is waiting for you.”  

Nobody knows how things will turn out in the future, but this country will definitely change.

I follow the creaking staircase as I climb upwards, preparing to return home.

This is my attempt at illustrating Wolf extending his hand to Yuuri in this scene. I have wanted to do it for a long time, so I did. I'll get back to it and improve it someday, but for now this is it.

God, I swear there are so many goodies that we all just skim over without realizing!

Novel 11, chapter 7

“Your Majesty!”There isn’t a wall behind me, and the balcony railing I finally touch is round and thick, so my fingers, scalding hot with pain, can’t get a grip on them at all. In that second I could still wonder how many stories this is, but before I get an answer, my entire body is already flying mid-air. It won’t hurt anymore. All that’s left is to fall, just like that time.”

WHAT TIME!?  I can’t recall Yuuri falling a long distance before. (When he fell in the Colosseum, he was the maou and he wasn’t conscious; when he dropped with Josak it wasn’t like this). And we know that Julia died in battle, so not like this either.

So as Yuuri is approaching his death, he remembers ‘falling to his death’ just like that time.

So I’m thinking this is most likely how his original soul died. Oh, well, interesting nonetheless!

THIS is EXACTLY WHY I LOVE the LIGHT NOVEL!! Takabayashi-sensei's work is amazing!!

Also Wolfram always says he "loves and respects" Yuuri, which is not convincing enough as a confession because it basically refers to his love for him as a king.

I just love their interactions in the LN!!

There are no headcanons needed, as Yuuri has already confessed plenty in novels and manga.

Manga:

Chapter 108 where he tells Wolfram “I finally caught you” , using the same words Wolf used when he saved him. As Wolfram will say later on “the catching” is of course, falling in love.

Novels:

Novel 9, chapter 9

-He tells Wolfram “You’re cute” (Wolfram misunderstands and thinks Yuuri wants to turn him into a human sacrifice. Oh novels, I love you so~!) 

In Japanese culture: You don’t go around telling people they’re cute, unless you like them.

Novel 14, chapter 7-

-The bed scene because it’s a tree that keeps on giving is a confession too (1)“Thank goodness I still have you beside me.”(2)“You’re being so honest about your feelings, it’s sickening.”(3) “I don’t even have the strength to pretend anymore.”

Not only does Yuuri confess (1), but Wolfram acknowledges the confession and makes sure that Yuuri is saying what he thinks he’s saying (2); Yuuri confirms (3)

This scene is really spectacular in the drama cds (cd56, disc 1, track 11), first because there are some added words to it, second because you can hear the tone in their voices. Although the word ‘sickening’ might not intuitively feel like love in English, it works in the context in Japanese. Wolfram is pretty much saying “you’re being straightforward about your feelings” and Yuuri is saying, “yeah I am”.

-Novel 15, chapter 5Yuuri asks Wolfram :“What’s the meaning of that punch to my stomach? Do you want a divorce? To remarry another person?”

I think we’re a bit past “confessions” once Yuuri starts assuming that they’re married.

- End of Seisakoku arc (nv.15, chapter 8)Marriage talk continues: Yuuri accuses Wolfram of domestic violence…. If you’re not family, it’s not domestic violence, it’s just violence. Once again, Wolfram misunderstands the whole thing. In novel 15.5 he’ll talk about Domestic violence again, this time feeling bad himself for having stabbed Wolfram back then.

And for those of you who haven’t read my past analyses:Japanese people don’t say I love you (aishiteiru is never used in rl). They rarely say “I like you”. A vast majority of MARRIED couples have never said “I love/like you” (suki da). 

In Japanese there are all sorts of euphemisms to say you like someone, without having to use the words.

And if saying that “The moon looks beautiful tonight” is a love confession, I think that asking someone if they are trying to divorce you, has a very “we’re a married ” tone to it, no? 

AND, if the ‘Love Letter’ story in the last doujinshi, where they write things they like about each other, aren’t 26 damn love confessions then I don’t know what is!

Finally, Wolfram

It’s lovely how yuuram fans (not just you, lovely batkray) all want a confession from Yuuri …. but no one wants one from Wolf? Why not? 

Is it because he tells Yuuri he’s beautiful? Well, guess what? Yuuri always replies with a “you’re more beautiful than I am” to Wolf.

Is it because he sneaks into Yuuri’s bed? Well, guess what? Yuuri is the one who lets him come into his room, sleep, and stay with him. There IS a lock in the door. (novel 4)Is it because Wolfram pretty much jumped Yuuri to have sex with him in the second novel? Well, guess what? Yuuri didn’t say no. He panicked a bit and jumped into the ofuro saying “You don’t want to do it with a smelly guy, right?” He was buying himself time, not knowing he was returning to earth, and his mouth intuitively said yes to Wolf. “Yes, lemme take a bath”For those of you who don’t know this: Japanese people ALWAYS take a bath before sex. Yuuri didn’t run back outside to the corridor to get help (pretty sure there are soldiers guarding him around the clock), he went to the ofuro TO TAKE A BATH! He even said the words” You don’t want to do it with a smelly guy”.

So what’s up with that?

Didn’t Yuuri go above and beyond confessing? Don’t Yuuri’s words and actions count, too? Didn’t he choose Wolf to go with him on an “adventure”, knowing it would just be the two of them in Seisa arc? Didn’t he call Wolfram cute? Didn’t he almost loose himself when he thought Wolf was dead? Doesn’t he constantly think about Wolfram’s beauty and braveness, and is terrified of that time when Wolf almost died? Didn’t he tell Wolfram he’s happy to have him in the bed scene? Didn’t he get in bed with Wolfram to get comforted by him, telling him he couldn’t pretend anymore? Didn’t Yuuri ask Wolfram if his punch meant ‘divorce’? Doesn’t he talk about Wolfram and himself as having “domestic violence” issues? Didn’t he COMPLAIN that Wolfram isn’t sleeping with him since Seisa? Doesn’t he refer to Wolfram as Greta’s father!? Doesn’t he say that Wolfram is the only one who can understand him when it comes to parenting Greta? Didn’t he tell Wolfram in misepan 2 that he would give him anything Wolfram wanted? Wolfram didn’t say that… Yuuri said that! Didn’t he sit down to write wonderful things about Wolf in ‘Love Letter’? The doujinshi is called Love Letter! And how about Crossheart? The story where he asks Wolfram if he would cry if Yuuri wasn’t there anymore? Yuuri plainly said he WOULD cry, and Wolfram said he wouldn’t because he didn’t want Yuuri to be sad…. Not to mention that before Wolfram explained himself, Yuuri immediately felt hurt because he thought a fiance should cry.

Conversely: Has he ever done any of these things, thought any of these things towards anyone else? Is anyone else Greta’s father? Did he tell anyone else he would give them anything they want? Did he ask anyone else if they wanted a divorce!? 

In my opinion, anyone refusing to accept that Yuuri has confessed to Wolfram, has professed his love with words and actions has simply not read the novels; or is negating half the canon to fit some other ship.
