Plains Prince.
He's another demo gouache painting I did for Kali's illustration students. His silhouette's a little lacking, but I still had a lot of fun painting him and his buffalo-teeth cloak.
New one for the New York Times: Letters about the misleading nature of diet pills. Check out the article online here. Thanks to my art director Nathan Huang!
"Suzy, do you know anything about...witches?"
Suspiria, a masterpiece by Dario Argento. This trippy, amazingly surreal horror film is the subject of my newest tshirt design for Pizza Party Printing's upcoming movie night at the Ottobar. They'll be showing not only Suspiria, but the 1989 horror, The Church (paired with a fucking metal shirt by Jimmy Giegerich), so if you're in Baltimore at the end of the month, be there! Immerse yourself in blood and beer (and the music of the one, the only Goblin). It's gonna be spooky.
The Suspiria shirt is up for sale now at Pizza Party! Pick one up while you can!
The Vodyanoi is a sort of water demon from Russian folklore, sometimes called the Father of Mermaids, who, when angered, causes floods, breaks dams, and drowns people, dragging them underwater to serve him forever. Victims of drowning were not buried at Orthodox cemeteries, as by taking the souls of his victims away from him, the Vodyanoi would become angry, causing drought or hail in retribution.
I created my own interpretation of the Vodyanoi for Seventh Church Ministries, a small press publisher who is producing limited-edition prints of this in conjunction with their release of Jeanne D’Angelo’s upcoming zine “Unclean Spirits.” Prints will be available September 25th.

It's really sweet to see my Alphabirds in the little hands of little kids. I hope she likes her new bird letter friends! You can buy prints of my Alphabirds and other children's-themed artwork at The Littlest Mammoth.
Ava unwrapping her birthday present! Alphabirds by @andreakalfas (Taken with instagram)
Here's a painting I made for my grandmother on her 85th birthday this last Sunday. I chose calendula and white cosmos because those are October birth flowers, and a skylark for our Danish roots, which all come from her! She's a great lady with all the vigor of someone whose far from 85, and I always love seeing her. I think she liked the gift :)
dffect asked:
"So what is the news besides the blues?"
It's cold in my house. But I'm enjoying a new scarf. But I ate a dissatisfying brownie. Trade-offs.
Today's warm-up: this neon swamp grump 🐸
penta-pretzels! maybe be wary of eating these though…
