Pink as a Tragedy
SPOILERS!
I just saw the latest Steven Universe special (so many awesome moments) but by far the best one was finally getting to see Pink Diamond!
I’m sure everyone caught on to how much of a brat the little diamond was (though given her privileged status as diamond, it’s not that surprising). I’d venture to say that she was pretty young (by gem standards) and thus fairly immature.
Which is probably one of the reasons her death was such an incredible tragedy and blow to the other diamonds.
She was young.
Probably still a child in their eyes. And it would seem that even for gems, the idea of a child being killed, and in this case, brutally murdered (as far as we know), is an incredibly horrific act. It’s no wonder why Blue and Yellow are still deeply affected by Pink’s death; she was just a kid. She hadn’t even begun to live out her destiny.
Given Yellow’s exchange with Pink in this episode and previous reactions to mentions of the incident, I’d like to think that Yellow blames herself (in part) for Pink’s demise. Pink was too young, inexperienced, and not mature enough to handle a colony. She was given too much power too soon; she wasn’t ready for such an incredible responsibility and probably wasn’t able to run the colonization as efficiently as her fellow diamonds could have. No doubt if Yellow had been in charge of invading Earth, none of the things in the series would have happened.
But they did.
Pink was killed, the colony failed, and it’s been haunting the diamonds ever since. All because they indulged a spoiled child and failed to protect her when it mattered most.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Side of Dimensions Movie Reaction!
My nostalgic heart is all a flutter from seeing Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions!!!
Whenever I look back on the original series, I can’t help but laugh at how cheesy (and so easy to make fun of) it was. Everything was so dramatized, despite the fact that all the fights were centered around and settled by playing a children’s card game.
But watching YGO DSD brought back those excited and heart pounding feelings I got when I first watched the series and began collecting the trading cards.
It rekindled my admiration and awe of animation, the childlike glee from obvious but still humorous lines, and most importantly, the ups and downs of watching an epic story unfold and holding your breath with the characters as fights get down to the last wire.
In the back of your mind you know it has to turn out but you don’t know exactly how and you’re at the edge of your seat waiting for it to come but at the same time never wanting it to end.
But the story does end (in a way), though I wasn’t left feeling disappointed. I don’t know what it is about Japanese stories but somehow whenever a favorite series of mine ends, I’m not angry or sad. I simply feel...content. And that is the mark of a truly great story to me. A story that you enjoyed experiencing to its fullest and even when it ends, you are left with a sense of satisfaction, because you know the memories of experiencing the story are more important than it coming to an end.
So when I left the theater after seeing YGO DSD, I felt light again, like the carefree kid I was when I first discovered YGO. If it wasn’t for the YGO franchise, I never would have gotten into writing or drawing. So thank you, Takahashi-sama, for creating a series that sparked my imagination and continues to inspire me!
And now onto total silliness to lighten up the mood!
SPOILER ALERT!
While I was pretty happy to see that Kaiba finally got his chance to face the Pharaoh again, I can’t help but think Atem isn’t going to be wearing that smirk for very long...
Several weeks after Kaiba’s first visit...
Kaiba: *bursting into the throne room* PHARAOH! FACE ME IN A DUEL!
Atem: *groaning* Oh, dear gods, not you again! Haven’t you had enough yet?
Kaiba: No! I will not leave until I defeat you once and for all!
Atem: *sighing* Fine. Let’s get this over with.
Approximately thirty minutes later...
*Kaiba in the lead with 8000 life points while Atem only has 100*
Kaiba: *thinking to himself* Something isn’t right here. This whole time the pharaoh has done nothing to defend his life points or make a move on mine. What’s his game? Is this part of some ultimate strategy that involves letting his life points almost reach zero and thus enabling him to wipe me out in one move? Does he have a card that can do that?! Is there a card that can do that?!?!?
Atem: Kaiba, would you just hurry up and destroy the rest of my life points already? If we don’t end this soon I’m going to be late for my weekly council meeting.
Kaiba: Wait a minute...you’ve been letting me win on purpose! You haven’t been trying at all!
Atem: Look, would you just take the win and leave me alone, already? I’ve got a country to run and your constant visits are disrupting my schedule.
Kaiba: This is unacceptable, Pharaoh! I will not leave until I beat you in a duel!
Atem: Now see here; the first few duels were enjoyable, I admit. But now it’s just gotten tedious and it’s only because I’m a good guy that I haven’t Mind Crushed you already (and because Yugi wold probably come after me in a righteous fury for resorting to my YGO Zero days). Look, why not travel further back in time to when I was a kid? You should have no trouble defeating me then.
Kaiba: Because that’s not the same thing! Now duel me properly!
Atem: Gods, I hope Bakura attacks the palace soon...
I’ve been re-watching Steven Universe (from start to finish) the past couple of days, and all the new little nuances of the foreshadowing, references, and Gem culture are starting to stand out more the second time around. And it’s really sparked some ideas and theories that I hadn’t considered before the most recent seasons came out.
One of the more significant ones is the “My Diamond” phrase, or rather, Rose’s “My Pearl” line that she says in episode 45: Rose’s Scabbard.
Before the introduction of the Diamonds, that line didn’t really have any deeper meaning than the usual term of endearment. But with the Homeworld Gems referring to the significant leaders as ‘Their Diamonds’ (and when they don’t: such as Jasper referring to Yellow Diamond by her name, which we find out why later - because her TRUE Diamond is Pink Diamond), the phrasing Rose uses in that instance could have a far deeper meaning.
To call Pearl “My Pearl”, could not only be a term of endearment, but also that of high respect and loyalty. For Rose to say that to Pearl, who basically was made to be a pretty walking/talking purse, I think it was incredible and overwhelming. It’s no wonder that Pearl was so dedicated to Rose.
I think this is further proved in the episode ‘Sworn to the Sword’. When Connie asks Pearl “Did Rose make you feel like you were nothing?” and when Pearl answers: “Rose made me feel like I was everything.”
That statement makes so much more sense to me if my theory about the “My (Gem)” phrase is correct. When a Gem says “My Diamond”, I think it’s like they are reaffirming their devotion to the Diamond. They are saying “I am loyal to you. I live to serve you. You are the source of my existence.” (or something like that).
So when Rose goes and falls in love with Greg, I can see how terribly hurt Pearl would be by it. The Gem she thought was loyal to her - valued her more than anyone, decides to suddenly chose someone else, after all Pearl has done for Rose, and after thinking that she had Rose’s highest esteem…
It must have been truly devastating.
Now I wonder if Sapphire and Ruby go around saying that to each other ;)

Bit of both~
He’s an incubus. Being hot is literally his JOB. So his design is a lot of what I personally find appealing/attractive in a character, aka faceless masked figures, but I never expected him to be so popular with everyone else (I’m so glad though haha!)
Cashier Irritations
Just a random list of things that annoy me to no end when it comes to cashiering at a grocery store.
1. When customers get mad at the cashier for an item being priced ‘incorrectly’.
Really, people. It’s not our fault. We’re not the ones setting the prices, and not even the people stocking the items are. That is something that is set by the company. Plus all the cashier is doing is scanning the item; 9/10 times, even we don’t know what the price is going to be. So please don’t go around getting angry with us when something doesn’t come up right (or what you think is supposed to be right), because most of the time, there’s really nothing we can do about it, and we don’t deserve your bad attitude making our day harder.
2. When people get into a lane that doesn’t have its light on (indicating that they are NOT open).
Why don’t people pay attention? Did it ever occur to the customer to look up and make sure that the lane they are getting into is still open? Just because we’re helping someone at the moment, doesn’t mean that we are still open and customers are welcome to just start setting a large order of stuff onto the conveyor belt. Because most of the time, we’re rather desperate at that point to have a break, get something to eat, or just go home (having already been waiting to leave for quite some time since said break/clocking out time was due).
3. When someone puts far more than the amounted items at an Express Lane.
Once again, PAY ATTENTION! The whole point of an Express Lane is so people can get in and out of the store as quickly as possible. If the number of items is only a few over, that’s okay. But having someone come over and say, drop over $500 dollars worth of stuff onto the belt kind of ruins the flow, and thus no longer makes it an Express Lane for the people behind them. So please, have some consideration for someone other than yourself. Especially when said self absorbed attitude causes the people behind you to glare at us cashiers like we’re the ones that let you be so inconsiderate (even though our bosses tell us to check them out anyway).
4. When people go around pushing all the buttons on the Self-Checkouts and think the machine is breaking because they’ve confused it.
Self-Checkout is my favorite area, to be quite honest. I love just being able to stand to the side and help people figure out how to use the machines when needed. But when the customers go around not paying attention to how things need to go for the experience to run smoothly....it gets pretty bothersome. The machines are designed for items to be scanned and then placed on the bagging area ONE AT AT TIME. When you try to scan something else before putting the previous item down, it messes things up; ESPECIALLY when you press the ‘Don’t Want to Bag’ button and then place said item that you ‘didn’t want to bag’ down in the bagging area, thus causing the machine to get suspicious of the extra weight and ask you to remove the item that you ‘haven’t scanned yet’. One at at time, people, ONE AT A TIME.
5. When customers bring a whole cart full of stuff to the Self-checkouts.
Kind of similar to the whole ‘Express Lane’ thing. To me, self-checkouts are there to make the shopping experience quicker. It takes more than twice as long for someone to bag their own stuff than it would have taken a cashier to bag their stuff while the customer was putting things on the conveyor belt, when it comes to large orders. Plus, when you bring a cart to the self-checkout area, it severely clogs up the space, for EVERYONE. Trying to get around a cart to just get to the next available machine can be a challenge, unless you resort to being rude, which is not something anyone should do.
6. When people hover way too close to another customer while waiting for their turn.
Personal space. Look it up. Whether it’s at a regular lane or at the self-checkouts, give people some room to breath. It will be your turn eventually. Do your fellow human being a favor and just wait a polite distance away. Hovering over them isn’t going to make them leave any faster, and it’s just plain rude to silently imply that they need to hurry up because clearly it’s your turn and they need to get moving.
7. When someone doesn’t move after getting their receipt.
And now for the other side; let’s not loiter, people. Once you get your stuff, it would be quite nice if you at least stepped away if you feel the need to check your receipt. While it doesn’t hurt to check and make sure you weren’t charged twice or anything, it would help if you didn’t stay in a place someone else needs to be in order to complete their purchase. Especially at the self-checkouts! If you don’t want to have your space rudely invaded, than be polite and step out of the way.
So anyway, that’s my rant. Just needed to get it out of my system :)

Marinette #2 (the one on the left - the non time traveler), is giving off a look of “oh my gosh, seriously? What incredibly inappropriate thing he is thinking of now?”
While Marinette #1 (the one of the right - the one that traveled in time), has a sort of bored “Ah, there he is with the jokes again. But at least he’s alive, so I guess I can let it go this time.” Because she’s the one that witnessed him sacrifice his life for her. She’s bound to be less annoyed with him as #2 (who has no knowledge of what he did - or what he’s capable of doing).
Or at least those are my thoughts ;3

Once upon a time rambling
Just saw the season finale of Once upon a time. I had a feeling Emma's kiss would work on Henry. Was not expecting it to give back everyone's memories. I was sooooooo happy that Rumple and Belle found each other again!!! Didn't like that look he had on his face at the end though. That really worries me. I was hoping he would finally be a good guy. And just how is bringing magic to our world going to help him reunite with his son? (Latest suspicion: Baelfire wrote the fairy tales book)
Ah, Steve. How are you doing without your favorite second in command right now? Especially considering Dreadwing doesn't have as nearly nice legs as Starscream does ;)
