It's also the inspiration for the title of one of my all-time favorite youtube miniseries, The Guards Themselves!
It's a fun little "the superheroes are being used by the rich to further their agendas and the anarchist supervillains have a point actually, though they're not exactly the most skilled supers ever tbh" type adventure with lots of fun memorable characters. It was basically the creator's film school senior project and I think it's pretty well done as low-budget youtube movies go.
But yeah, in this case, the guards are variously the superheroes, the private security force employed by Meyer (the primary rich guy in question), and the anarchists, and there's plenty of exploration of the guarding of the guards themselves!
Also Kyle (the main creator)'s best friend Ian actually teaches Latin--he plays Big Fist in this--and I'm pretty sure he had a hand in the title.

(General warning for some pretty gratuitous gun violence, but not too much in the way of blood)
"Who will guard the guards themselves?" / "Who will watch the watchmen ?"
It was found in Juvenal's Satires but it may have been added by someone else
Nowadays, it's sually used in relation to tyrannic governments or corrupted law enforcers but it was originally about the moral behavior of wives and eunuchs.
"Who watches the Watchmen ?" is a phrase used several times in Watchmen
In Terry Pratchett's Watch series (Discworld universe), it's super important and is an acab phrase of sorts used by Commander Vimes, the cop main character to keep himself in check in a pre-acab world when these books were published
*Note : the Discworld propaganda isn't mine. I had actually cut parts of my original list of phrases before letting you make picks and this one hadn't made the cut. However, one of you had asked about this specific phrase and I elected to add it to the form
If you want to submit a new form to vote for it, go for it. Same thing if you've changed your mind about other phrases, but please try to remember which ones you have already voted for
Halloween 🎃
You’re never too old to get cuddles from Momcat, no matter how much bigger than her you get! :)
fandom is so weird you never know how old anyone is but you just kinda assume most of them are around your age until proven otherwise and then one day someone is talking about their 9 year old kid on your dash and another person is saying they just finished 10th grade. wild.
I just remembered that I submitted things to this page years ago, long before I had a tumblr, and a couple of them got published. Now that I do have a tumblr I thought I might as well share a thing to which I contributed :)
I should note that I did write this one back before I saw the 50th anniversary special, though that was still not quite aaaall the epic Time War drama I was hoping for. Also, someone in the notes has pointed out that the Big Finish audios go more into it, and I have really been wanting to get into those more for a while. I should put them on my Christmas list.
Actually, now I’d say it’s not specifically that I want more about the Time War anymore. I just want more Gallifrey in general. Like, I know the Doctor left because he found it stuffy and boring and whatnot (or because he was afraid, according to 12, but I imagine it was some combination thereof), but I want more backstory on his childhood and his school days, and more emotional drama with his family (who are apparently no longer disapparated from existence, so he should have to deal with them) and old friends (especially the Master, but other ones, too). There’s just so much emotional tension for the Doctor to deal with on Gallifrey!
I should really go back to those Doctor’s childhood fics I was writing. I even came up with my own longform version of the Doctor’s original Gallifreyan name--his real one, not his school nickname. Remind me to tell you about it some time; I was starting to write it here but then I realized this post was long enough and my naming of the Doctor is going to take a whole long post of its own to explain.
Hm, interesting... Wasn’t there an interview where Robin said that as soon as Gotham was done filming, he’d shave all his dyed-black hair off so it could grow back out blond? Well... this is after filming finished, right?
Maybe he just hasn’t had time yet, or maybe they asked him to keep the hair for a while in case they need to film pickup shots still. Or, maybe he’s changed his mind and decided to keep it black for a while. It does look quite nice, after all :)
Or maybe, just maybe... could there be more? *insert hopeful smile*

Happy belated black hole day because I have a bad habit of forgetting things in my drafts!
Also both the black hole picture and Treasure Planet are still awesome.
Happy black hole day!!
They are truly fascinating
Anyways, here’s a rather more heartwarming Mother’s Day fanart piece of young Loki learning magic from his mom :)
“You [Thor] and your father cast large shadows. I had hoped by sharing my gifts with Loki that he could find some sun for himself.”
OMG MOM UR SO COOL HOW DO YOU DO THAT WOWOWWOW
And again, on the eve of opening night for A Year with Frog and Toad, I find a second Frog and Toad related post, which, yet again, corresponds directly with a song from this show I’m in.
Either the number of Frog and Toad things I’m running across on tumblr tonight is a sign, or this is some kind of Baader-Meinhof phenomenon specific to being in a certain show... Is there a theatrical version of that? Or maybe Baader-Meinhof isn’t the right term because I didn’t just learn about Frog and Toad, but it’s like that thing where one suddenly sees a thing everywhere just when it’s relevant. Is it a different type of cognitive bias, perhaps? Does anyone know the correct term for being in a play and then seeing things relevant to that play just before the show opens?
Like, I haven’t noticed any Frog and Toad-related content since I joined tumblr in November and the night before we open, I see two things. It’s crazy. Well, I guess I’ll call it good luck?
But yeah, this one’s Frog’s solo. A very sweet little song.
i just think this is so important and i think this is the greatest life lesson you could learn in your childhood, or at any age (from Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel)
Now *that* is the sword I want :)

Welcome, dear traveller, to our fantastical lande shrouded in swirling violet mists. Here we study how stories shape our lives, how words weave wonders before our eyes. Here we are enamoured of love and the connections betwixt people. Here we seek daring adventures in our wild lande, delving into the unknown at every turn. But mostly, here you'll find my obsession with any number of things, like Doctor Who, the Vampire Diaries, or any number of others from the ever-shifting tide of obsessions through which I cycle.
