Even without the cathedral, this woman has a gorgeous voice, but the effect of the cathedral is really quite lovely.
Kind of gives you chills .
So beautiful and surreal. I love it :)

I love this episode so, so much... I’m not certain whether I can call it my absolute favorite because there are so many great Doctor Who episodes, but the interactions of the two Masters, both with one another and with the Doctor--and the way that they illustrate how much the Master and their relationship with the Doctor has changed and grown--it’s just so beautifully done. From the banter to the Doctor’s epic moral speech, I just love all of it.
Anyways this isn’t specifically relevant to this particular gifset, but it just showed up on my dash and I was like OMIGOSH THAT EPISOOODDEEE and I had to ramble about how much I love it. I need me that Doctor/Master interaction, and that multi-Master interaction, and just... all of it. Yes.
I’m so articulate tonight, haha.
I figured I’d go ahead and reblog the updated version, because it is rather relieving to see the inside looking recognizable, though damaged.
(Also, I ramble about guilt regarding what I do & don’t reblog after the cut.)
Of course, people are also posting now about other important fires in culturally significant buildings that have happened recently and asking why this one is getting all the attention; and, of course, as bad things happening in the world right now go, there are doubtless a great many of them doing more immediate harm to people. Obviously, humans are more important than buildings. In short, it’s making me feel guilty that this is basically the first news story I’ve shared on my tumblr, and there are probably more significant things I should’ve reblogged in the past. I mean, I’m pretty sure I still have things about the recent floods not far from us in the midwest sitting in my drafts somewhere. The fact is that typically I take a long time to process a post, because I am the sort of person who takes a long time to think through what I want to say--and then I probably say too much, but I still always feel like I’m never saying everything I mean to or would like to.
In short, I am not the blog to follow for timely commentary on things, because I take weeks to process the average post. The first Notre Dame post I shared just struck an ideal storm of coincidences for me to have the time and motivation to post it in a timely manner. When there are other terrible things going on in the world that it seems I should be posting about, know that if I have heard about them, then I likely care about them and am praying about them. There are just always so many things. This is why my prayers so often escalate to “bless everyone, God, because everyone is dealing with something or another that is troubling them in some way, and everyone needs you”. I know I really should be more specific in my prayers, but it’s also true that everyone needs God, and the more I hear about the problems of the world, the more people I feel the need to pray for, and so that’s where I wind up.
Since my first ‘in short’ didn’t work, I’ll try one again: in short, I see these things and I care about them, and I’m sorry if my reblogging isn’t always balanced towards the most important human disasters. This is foremost a multi-fandom blog, and maybe I shouldn’t have dabbled in news at all, but this one just struck me for a moment.
Sorry this post devolved more into my guilt about all the things I don’t reblog rather than an update on Notre Dam.
notre dame is burning.
this is ok.
it has happened before. it will happen again. it has been lost before. it will be lost again. and again. and again. and again. art and architecture are transient, and temporary, and 850 years may seem like a lot to the individual, who will live maybe 100 if they are very lucky and very healthy, but even the pyramids at saqqara have only existed for about 6000 years and that’s still not all that much, if you consider the grand scheme of things.
yes, this is terrible. as someone who is deeply religious and literally a professional historian with a focus on art and architecture, this is terrible. im mourning. im gutted. im horrified and upset and miserable. but.
it’s not over.
victor hugo wrote hunchback because notre dame du paris was in the process of collapsing and falling apart, and revitalized the entire world’s focus and love for this church, and that was not even 200 years ago. it led to it being renovated.
the roof has fallen in. the scars of fires are on its buttresses. the rose window has fallen out. the beams and piers have collapsed. the spire has toppled. the stones have suffered, and will suffer again, but it is not gone.
renovation work is essential. sometimes things collapse and burn and break and have to come back. it’s not a terrorist attack, it’s renovation, an accident, but we have so much evidence, history, carefully documented everything on one of the most studied places in the world.
it’s not the end.
Twinsies! ;)
I spent the weekend in the UK and it was fantastic. Thanks to @mjkeysz, Seth, Faith and the whole #wbukcrew. Until next time!
My mom and I are always debating what color things are, like I’ll say something is blue and she’ll say it’s green, so I took this quiz and then had her take it in the hopes that it would finally settle which of us is right about colors. Unfortunately, we both got 0... But I guess it’s a quiz on how well you can distinguish colors from one another, not what you call them.
How well do you see color?
I’m cry I scored 60, I feel blind
This is so mysterious and spooky and I love it. I do kind of wish we got to see a little bit more of Ed’s interactions with the Court of Owls after he finally got to meet them, i.e., got captured by them.
That whole mystery illustrated him as a Ravenclaw villain so beautifully. While I love Oswald dearly, his villainous motivations are very much classic Slytherin ones--he’s ambitious, and his cunning and manipulation serve his ambition. And of course, there’s nothing wrong with a classic Slytherin villain, but I suppose as a Ravenclaw I love to see villains from my own house. Unlike Oswald, Ed doesn’t care about ruling Gotham. He wants people to know how smart he is and to be recognized for that, but also, he’s a genuinely curious person. He wants to know all the secrets the city keeps. The Court of Owls was a perfect trap for him, really--curiosity is one of his greatest downfalls (arrogance is another, of course, but that’s for another time).
Anyways, I just love how creepy and eerie this is, and I think it’s a fitting and illuminating picture of that moment when Ed finally got his answers. Or, well, just more questions, really.
I love how Ed was really just starting to think of himself as a big, scary supervillain, starting to have that power and feel it, and at that very moment, he stumbled into something much bigger and scarier than himself. This picture really gives off that feeling in a lovely way that makes one shiver a little.
This is another one of those pieces of art I’ve simply stared at for an inordinately long period of time.
Welcome to your new home.
This is still one of the most heartwarming Martin edits I’ve ever seen. The trouble is that I saw it before I saw season 4, so it actually set my expectations for Oswald’s skill as a dad unrealistically high. Not that I’m saying he’s not a good dad (nor am I saying he’s not not a good dad in canon... I mean... it’s complicated), it’s just that I didn’t actually realize this was an incorrect quote the first time I saw it (despite how clearly labeled I now see it is) and I was really hoping this was actually going to be canon. It’s just so perfect, the misfit mobster comforting his misfit son, and it really fits with the emotion in their eyes, the passion and the sadness and the hurt. And after all, Oswald already compared himself to a Roman ruler in Augustus Caesar; it’s not that much of stretch for him to compare himself (and Martin) to a Greek philosopher.
Also, this is yet another reason purple is the best color ;)

Another thing I wish could’ve happened in Gotham: Oswald’s family interacting. It seems like we’ve met most members of his family, but pretty much all of them one at a time. It works for the plot, but we don’t get much family fluff because of it. So, these are exactly the sort of character interactions I’m so glad to find in fandom. Gertrude would’ve made a great grandma, and I bet Martin would loved going to visit her <3 All of this is just so adorable and cute and I love it. Whatever happens in the show, Oswald will always have a happy family in fandom :)
spending time with grandma!!!
I lowkey want one of those "live laugh love" type house signs that says "come freely, go safely, and leave something of the happiness you bring" for the entryway of my house someday. I think it'd be hilarious, but it's also lowkey a nice greeting in its own way, if perhaps mildly ominous... What a nice way to set a welcoming vibe! ;)
jkflsajkf SO PRETTY!!
I love the art in this fandom <3

Welcome, dear traveller, to our fantastical lande shrouded in swirling violet mists. Here we study how stories shape our lives, how words weave wonders before our eyes. Here we are enamoured of love and the connections betwixt people. Here we seek daring adventures in our wild lande, delving into the unknown at every turn. But mostly, here you'll find my obsession with any number of things, like Doctor Who, the Vampire Diaries, or any number of others from the ever-shifting tide of obsessions through which I cycle.
