Please Give me your attention đ
Please read this as if i were a member of your family. Maybe your sister, your daughter or your friend. As if my family who is going through difficult circumstances is your family.
Hello, I'm Ola, a graduate student from the faculty of science - Al-Azhar University in G@za P@lestine. I truly appreciate you taking a moment to read my story. As you reading my message, myself and my family, âmy mother, father, three sisters, and my little brother,â are trying to survive under all kinds of suffering including but not limited to fear, instability, and starvation, thirst, and poverty in northern G@za.
After 508 days of suffering, I am writing to you today with a heavy heart, in desperate need of your help. I can't describe how harsh the situation we are living in is. My family is suffering from the biting cold of winter, and we are facing a severe shortage of food and clothing. Every day feels like a lifetime, and every moment makes me feel helpless and hopeless. đ
After the prices went up so crazy, I created this campaign to help my family provide food, water and essential needs. I know for sure that you can't help all families that want your help but at least you can help those who come across your life.
Every simple thing makes a difference in changing the situation we are in. So please don't hesitate to help us đđ
Thank you for taking a minute to read this.âĽď¸

Knights are growing on me, I think its the pageantry of it all
Not that I think we will. But itâs something I feel the need to say out loud to ensure myself of it.
Woke up this morning to finding out that Swedish statistician, public speaker, doctor and academic Hans Rosling had died. It hit me harder than I thought it would, the more I thought about it.
Of course, my thoughts go out to his family and friends first and foremost. But I just had to take a few moments to think of how many things he made me think differently of and how I still refer to him to this day.
You might not recognize the name, but perhaps youâve seen his videos?
Hans Rosling was a professor of international health. He took his knowledge and created incredible computer programs and graphics because what he wanted was to educate, and he realized that one of the best ways of educating was through visual entertainment. He was incredibly pedagogic. He knew how to teach.Â
This was a man who spoke about global health, global warming, economy, development, immigration and world population and he constantly kept his positive outlook on the world and truly believed that we could become better.
(He was also involved in starting the Swedish branch of MSF.)
Somehow, it feels like an extra huge tragedy to lose someone who was so dedicated to fact-based science and the importance of educating right now of all times. No, people never die at the right time. But for me, it felt like his death highlighted why we have to keep speaking up, why we have to keep being more vigilant than ever when it comes to our sources and to guard science and statistics so that they donât become twisted by political agendas.Â
As he said himself, when talking about Swedenâs own populist right-wing party:Â âWe must not let the Swedish Democrats get monopoly on the truth, it is very dangerous to do so.â And I think that rings true for a lot of people today.
He was an amazing man. He made numbers and statistics fun for many, you know? With his somewhat broken english and colorful dots he made people enjoy it. And even though he was talking about world hunger or poverty he truly made people believe that we are on our way to a better world.Â
So if you havenât, Iâd really recommend to check some of his stuff out. We need to ensure what he dedicated so much of his life to lives on, because it is so important right now.Â

Waaay back in the olden days (2012) Pixar storyboard artist Emma Coats gave some amazing writing tips. I love these and have read them dozens of times.
#1: You admire a character for trying more than for their successes.
#2: You gotta keep in mind whatâs interesting to you as an audience, not whatâs fun to do as a writer. They can be v. different.
#3: Trying for theme is important, but you wonât see what the story is actually about til youâre at the end of it. Now rewrite.
#4: Once upon a time there was ___. Every day, ___. One day ___. Because of that, ___. Because of that, ___. Until finally ___.
#5: Simplify. Focus. Combine characters. Hop over detours. Youâll feel like youâre losing valuable stuff but it sets you free.
#6: What is your character good at, comfortable with? Throw the polar opposite at them. Challenge them. How do they deal?
#7: Come up with your ending before you figure out your middle. Seriously. Endings are hard, get yours working up front.
#8: Finish your story, let go even if itâs not perfect. In an ideal world you have both, but move on. Do better next time.
#9: When youâre stuck, make a list of what WOULDNâT happen next. Lots of times the material to get you unstuck will show up.
#10: Pull apart the stories you like. What you like in them is a part of you; youâve got to recognize it before you can use it.
#11: Putting it on paper lets you start fixing it. If it stays in your head, a perfect idea, youâll never share it with anyone.
#12: Discount the 1st thing that comes to mind. And the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th â get the obvious out of the way. Surprise yourself.
#13: Give your characters opinions. Passive/malleable might seem likable to you as you write, but itâs poison to the audience.
#14: Why must you tell THIS story? Whatâs the belief burning within you that your story feeds off of? Thatâs the heart of it.
#15: If you were your character, in this situation, how would you feel? Honesty lends credibility to unbelievable situations.
#16: What are the stakes? Give us reason to root for the character. What happens if they donât succeed? Stack the odds against.
#17: No work is ever wasted. If itâs not working, let go and move on - itâll come back around to be useful later.
#18: You have to know yourself: the difference between doing your best & fussing. Story is testing, not refining.
#19: Coincidences to get characters into trouble are great; coincidences to get them out of it are cheating.
#20: Exercise: take the building blocks of a movie you dislike. How d'you rearrange them into what you DO like?
#21: You gotta identify with your situation/characters, canât just write âcoolâ. What would make YOU act that way?
#22: Whatâs the essence of your story? Most economical telling of it? If you know that, you can build out from there.
â
Hope you liked these!
