IVE ꔫ 'EMPATHY!' Trailer
thoughts on estraven's death: the image of the grieving mother. Genly holding estraven is a callback to the Pietà and other similar works of women holding and weeping over a loved one. Amid all the other cultural references in LHOD, this one stands out to me. Genly is cast as a woman at the climax of the novel, a symbol of not only his changing attitudes but his changing gender identity as well.
ok so one of my Hungarian faves has released this new song today and their songs are always very spiritual and philosophical
so I was listening to it and I almost exploded because of this lyrics (translation mine and wonky)
Nothing is turning you
You are the wheel
And you are turning yourself
well. guess who came to mind
I recommend József Attila fr! he is controversial but interesting, sometimes a bit too overused but summarizes an era well and has that edgelord vibe imo (and I think Ján Smrek did a lot of pretty good translations of his works)
AND PRESSBURG! I need to watch it finally - my sister kept talking about it and how there are some inaccuracies and just unrealistic cringe stuff, but it's good that it exists and talks about things like these
Nebudem ťa volať "bráško", Nebudem ťa volať "kamoš", Oboch už v živote mám, Tak mi s tým trochu pomôž Ako voláš niekoho, S kým zdieľaš ťarchu zrady, S kým padal si vo vojnách, S kým staval si tie hrady S kým vymenil sis' slová, No komu viac nerozumieš ? Bol si tu celý ten čas, Tak povedz mi: čo o nás vieš? Ezer év együtt, Hogy történhetett ez meg? Különböző szavak, De ugyanaz a természet Próbáljunk meg nem határokat Húzni egymás közé Ne nézzünk egymásra, Nézzünk együtt előre! Még mindig ugyanazt a folyót ünnepeljük, Még mindig te vagy az én igazi északom, Igyunk hát mindkettőnkre, Nőjön a boldogságunk, Lássuk egymást napról napra többet, És ne féljünk többé attól, Ami közös bennünk
