This idea was too cool not to reblog, especially from my nerdy combinatorics perspective.
Had an idea for a conlang in which instead of pronouns having the standard person/number setup (basically the cartesian product of {1, 2, 3} and {SG, PL}), it uses only the persons of the referents, not caring about how many there are (basically the powerset of {1, 2, 3}).
For example with this you would get a second person pronoun I'll gloss as just 2, but all it means is that the referents are a subset of the audience, independent of whether there are one or many people in that audience. However you'd also get another “second person” pronoun 2.3 which just means the referents include the audience but also people elsewhere (this is definitionally plural).
You'd end up with one third person pronoun (3, can be either plural or singular), two second person pronouns (see above), and four first person pronouns (1 – just singular, 1.3 – exclusive plural, 1.2 – partially inclusive plural, and 1.2.3 – inclusive plural). Additionally you'd also get an empty pronoun ∅, which could be used as an indefinite or impersonal pronoun like “one” or the dummy “it” (perhaps adding an animacy distinction to the system could help here).
It's interesting that the only thing you lose in this system compared to English at least is equivalents to the non-epicene third person singular pronouns “he/she/it”; because both “you” and “they” can refer to singular and plural they map directly to equivalents here. In first and second person you're purely gaining distinctions.
Yeah, I for sure meant a little both to encourage reading your works but also I probably misread a little?
Like, I think what I said still mostly applies but in a different way than I meant it, for sure? (Well, maybe not my first sentence; looking back that reads completely unrelated honestly.)
sometimes i feel like a bigshot mass media company when i purposely exclude important details from “the advertising” to help hide spoilers lol
I was on a plane again today, so I wrote a bunch. If I didn't crack 30,000 today, I'll crack 30,000 tomorrow. Yay!
I finally got around to writing an introduction for this blog, which was long overdue. I'm definitely not only shouting off into the void of binary while I continue to write.
Neither Odapir nor Ipol are to a point where I would feel comfortable publishing a dictionary, but they're to a point where I can translate as I need to and derive words on the fly. If I ever get to a point where I have 1,500-2,000 words, I'll publish a dictionary, then. Probably online.
Sunslammer is just too badass! All of these are amazing, but sunslammer takes possession of my body and makes me feel uplifted whenever I think about it.

It only now occurs to me that I haven't properly introduced myself (or this blog!) Welcome. I'm happy to have y'all. I'm Lex (they/them) (18+), your local siren, programmer, writer, worldbuilder, conlanger, composer, and gardener. I speak with a bit of a Southern accent.
This is my main (and only, for now) blog, where I mostly post about my writing endeavors and worldbuilding "woes" (I make myself suffer for fun.) In the future, I may make blogs devoted to specific conlangs or concultures, but I will probably make a website for that, first. If that happens, I will post it here. I follow other blogs I like ad nauseam.
Additionally, I'm always taking translation suggestions for any of my conlangs in any of my WIPs. At the moment, I only have two WIPs, which I'll list below, but I'm really only working on one right now.
My WIPs are:
It Will Hurt: And There Will be no Fire - (On hold) A story about a vegan big-V Vampire, her sister, her cofee bar, and a lot of people who want her power for themselves.
Meiste - (Current) A story about several Heroes running around and trying to restore "magical balance" while also navigating political and economic strife.
Moreover, current conlangs I'm accepting translation ideas for:
Ipol (and Sinezo 'speer)
Odapir
Atepsi
Kwalinu and Kwaleynnũ
Ytos and Itaush
Katla-Khi
Bumpe Nende
Knál Bnú and Kanál Banáu
I'm normally down for connecting with writing buddies, so if you're interested, feel free to DM me! I am also willing to proofread/edit others' works, in addition to helping however I can. I can make websites, make languages, and make music lol.
I promise I wrote today, so there will also be an update following this. Take care, y'all.
The High Valyrian adjective jessie "joyful" was coined in honor of my fiancée, Jessie Sams, and the glyph was made thinking of her. I've known Jessie for ten years at this point, but our lives led winding paths that eventually led us to each other. We started working together in 2019 on Freeform's Motherland: Fort Salem, and I've wanted to work with no one else ever since. When I proposed to Jessie, I gave her a ring with a Valyrian inscription inside. That inscription featured her name glyph: Ao jessives ñuhys iksā, which means "You are my joy".
I'd never planned on getting a tattoo in my life, but we came up with an idea that meant a lot to both of us. I'd created a glyph for the word "joy" in High Valyrian and based the sound of that word on Jessie's name. She, in turn, had created a word based on my name in her language Zhwadi (it means "create"). Her writing system is also logographic, so there's a character associated with that. Consequently, we each decided to get each other's "names" tattooed on ourselves. Now a part of us will always be with the other. :)
Man, I don't care about learning NatLangs any more (Mandarin, Spanish), if given the choice, I want the ability to speak everyone's a priori Naturalistic ArtLangs. (IALs be damned.)
I am begging to see any corpus of the Sekaran that has been produced so far.
The Sekaran Tales:
Currently, the Sekaran tales are a loose collection of myths and folktales about the Sekaran people and the world they inhabit. The tag also includes the Sekaran conlang. I like to say I'm in my Silmarillion phase - just laying the groundwork for what I hope will be an epic story.
Oak, Ashe, and Thorn:
Oak, Ashe, and Thorn is a planned trilogy about found family, being Othered, and the power of supportive allies. Book one, Coffee and Curses, follows the adventures of the enby empath Quin Quercus, the lesbian werewolf Ashe Thompson, and the "not a prince" Bramble Brokenthorn as they discover a insidious Fae plot to steal people's Names.
Pataphysics 101:
A sci-fi anthology set in Keystone University, where a chaotic Fae-ish scientist named Dr. Kori Cyfrin¹ teaches classes on, you guessed it, pataphysics. The anthology includes/will include both lectures and short stories, and art if I can learn to draw better.
¹Yes, it's me. This is my source - well, part of it. -Kori
