I just think it's wholesome
I thought I couldn’t be convinced, but I listened to the arguments.
Well, I’m not taking back a single word of mine; sometimes fans are really out of their minds. But one person helped me see Sunday from a different perspective, and that gave me something to think about. Through Zuko. The HoYoverse just really poorly executed what the Avatar writers managed to do, or maybe I just can’t stand the hype.

I want to say this upfront: as a character, Sunday works perfectly fine for me. But I absolutely can’t stand how the fandom obediently swallowed such a stupid retcon of his character. And I can’t stand fandom stripped him of all blame. Time and time again, I see posts like: “Oh, my precious little sunshine! Don’t cry... Oh no, he’s crying in his ultimate! He didn’t deserve this, poor thing!”
And I’m left wondering: what the hell?
What the hell was HoYoverse thinking when they gave us a dictator with a god complex (borderline chūnibyō syndrome) as an antagonist? A character who defended someone who sold children into slavery. Someone who mocked a slave for their origins. Someone who placed himself above the local police and even above the very creator of Penacony. All while chaos reigned under his (and Family’s) rule in Penacony. Within Penacony, everything’s a mess: banditry, alcoholism, shady financial dealings. Criminals hide from the hounds in the Dreamscape, and Sunday defends them, driving the hounds away. Many people work for pennies, losing any chance at a better future. And some have even been dragged back after death, turned into lifeless husks just to serve as local attractions.
Sunday knows how to act righteously, but he chooses to do things his own way instead. That’s his whole arc. He became a god (boss version) for the Dreamscape and felt zero guilt over the fact that Penacony under his rule remained a pit of sin and filth, far from any kind of paradise.
And then, we defeat him. He regrets... but only regrets losing. His remorse isn’t about what he did—it’s about being beaten. He’s ready to do it all over again, just with a different strategy.
So again, what the hell?
Why does HoYoverse give us a character like this (admittedly fascinating because he’s ridiculously stubborn, manipulative, selfish, and unhinged), only to suddenly turn him into a martyr, a lamb, and a tragic victim we’re supposed to feel sorry for? Poor Sunday, who only wanted the best but ended up dooming everyone to suffer. They’re so insistent about making us pity him that it’s disorienting. What’s the point? No one’s going to believe it. He locked his own sister in a cage, justified slavery, carried out vigilante justice, and controlled the fates of millions. No one’s going to believe he’s a victim...
Except they d i d. And that’s what pisses me off the most. People have forgotten that just a year ago, he was the thorn in everyone’s side, deliberately hurting those around him with glee. Now they call him “sunshine,” “poor thing,” “precious baby.” They wipe his tears during his ultimate move, saying he doesn’t deserve to be imprisoned, doesn’t deserve to face the consequences of his actions. Are you all out of your minds?
Why didn’t Kokolia get a chance? Why didn’t Tisok 2 get a chance? (Tisok 2 is from a side quest about a ruler whose memories were erased. In it, we’re shown that she was a tyrant before losing her memory. The NPCs ask us, “Does she deserve redemption?” And no matter what, the NPCs will yell, “No, absolutely not!” Funny. She doesn’t deserve it, but Sunday does?)
The idea that he isn’t to blame is also questionable. He and Robin grew up under the same person’s wing. Robin was constantly told her perspective was wrong, yet did she grow up as a submissive follower? No, she grew into a truly strong person capable of thinking for herself. But Sunday? He basked in the praise for his bad decisions. He’s just an overgrown brat who decided the world is his playground.
So no, I will never believe in his redemption. I will never believe he’s changed. HoYoverse can’t convince me that he’s repented or truly regrets his sins, because as long as he’s free and has done nothing for society, it’s all meaningless.
He will never have a place on my Express. The Express will never be his home. He will never stand among the people who’ve become my family.

He’s looking out at the destruction Agni has caused with tears in his eyes ready to give up saying it was pointless and other self doubt stuff(artist can pick)A spirit come from behind him, gently touching his shoulder. It’s Lu Ten. Gently smiling he crouches down and cups Zuko’s face and starts singing.
“I know a boy from island. He stands apart from the crowd. He loves the world and his people. He makes his true family proud(show images of the gaang and iroh, maybe Hakoda,Mai and Ty Lee as well) Sometimes the world seems against you(image of zuko’s struggle) The journey may leave a scar(Lu gently brushes his hand against zuko’s scar smile turning sad and tears well up) But scars can heal and reveal just where you are(Lu stand up and gestures to the spirit world and an image of the fire nation healing) The people you love will change you(zuko smiling and laughing with his real family at Iroh’s tea shop) The things you have learned will guide you(show his transformation from ponytail to fire lord) And nothing in this world can silence the quiet voice still inside you(zuko is standing at this point,Lu puts his hand on zuko’s shoulder and a faint outline of pre scar zuko appears behind zuko) And when that voice starts to whisper Oh zuko, you’ve come so far. Dear Zu listen, do you know who you are.(Lu is standing in front of him and is placing both hands on zukos shoulders).”
Zuko looks down and bites his lip (faint outline of zuko alone starts appearing)and he says “Who am I? I am a the boy who loves my nation and the boy who love the world. It calls me. I am the son of fire lord. We are descended from warriors(image of the sun warriors)(Zuko walks away from Lu and to the front of his ship,looking the world)who found their way across the world. They call me.( spirits of his ancestors start to appear in the background either riding dragons or sailing)”
He turns around and face Lu, hand clenched in a fist. “I’ve delivered us to where we are(pointing the place the artist decides to draw) I have journeyed farther(side by side image of zuko where he is and his 3 year sea journey) I am everything I’ve learned and more still it calls me( he runs up the deck up to wher he caught the helmsman’s in the storm. He reaches out to the sky) And the call isn’t out their all it’s inside me. It’s like the tide(or sun artist can pick) always falling and rising(zuko closes is eyes bright smile, suddenly he jumps down and runs to Lu who’s watching him with a proud smile) I will carry you head in my heart you’ll remind me(he hugs Lu as he sings this;both smiling while crying. Zuko pulls back and goes to the front again) Come what may, I know the way! I am Zuko!!
The ancestors appear fully in ships or dragons. Roku leading them all. Their all dressed in various fire nation clothes ranging from sun warriors to Zuko’s era. All smiling or having looks of pride for their descendant. Roku nods to zuko and holds out his hand for Lu to get in the dragon. He does and they salute zuko and salutes back. Fang roars and let’s loose rainbow flames and zuko,still grinning,shoots his own to join the dragons.
End.

Animatic idea
It’s zuko singing you know who you are from Moana to the corrupt spirit of Agni. It can start out with aang battling Agni with the help of the ocean spirit or something as Agni is causing chaos and destroying everything. Zuko realizes its Agni and tells aang to let him try and talk to Agni. He sings the song walking up to the spirit(during the lyric “they have stolen the heart from inside you” change they to we as zuko feels like he was a part of agnis corruptions and show the horrors the firenation did like the colonization, genicide,dragon hunts)(then during “this does not define you”show not only zukos growth but how the firenation has healed) Zuko calms Agni with presenting his dragon fire like how Moana did with the heart. Finally Agni returns to their normal form, I’m thinking a similar appearance to zuko and his family but with dragon features like wings,horns,teeth,etc(maybe even dragon scales over where zuko’s scar is,mimicking it) smiling at zuko clutching the small dragon fire, like their hope has been restored.

Hi! So uh like 5 years ago I read this fic on Wattpad and I'm trying to find it again. It was about Zutara and the premise was that Zuko kidnapped Katara and took her to his ship and some stuff happens and the story ends with them at some tournament at a city or something. The fanfic was incomplete and the author was planning to rewrite. I no longer have access to my old Wattpad account but I want to reread the nostalgic stories i read when I was younger. ig I can’t call this to all the boys lol since in this au they’re comphet and it’s not only boys. Anyways, Katara is a 16 year old sophomore and Toph is a 15 year old sophomore. They’re friends, were closer in middle school though. I’m
Yue is in Josh’s place. She’s sokka’s ex, Katara has a crush on her. Haru is the one she danced with at that school prom thing and he’s like this is awkward bc I’m gay lol and she’s like yeah me too sorry😫Jet is the guy from camp, Aang is John Ambrose, and Toph is Peter but 100% better.
Chris is Suki. Jen is Azula, and Toph’s crush. She’s dating Ty Lee and Toph wants her attention (she has a crush) that’s why she agrees to fake date Katara.
Katara mostly hangs out with Suki and Sokka (who just started dating) and Zuko, who’s pretty much dating Mai but they’re like what no we’re not🙄
sokka sends the letters ig or maybe Aang does. you can interpret this however
She sees Aang from time to time and he knows that she’s over the crush so when he gets a letter, he teases her a little over the phone but they’re fine.
She sees Yue walking over to her in the hallway when she’s about to talk to Toph about the letter and then she and Toph kiss until Yue walks away.
Toph is kinda confused but says she doesn’t really want to date bc she has feelings for someone and Katara’s like nonono me too! that’s why it’s called fake dating.
So they start fake dating and whatever and Katara is like can you write me notes :) and Toph is like,,, I’m blind.
But Toph texts her a lil note everyday and it’s really sweet. She also brings her tea from the Jasmine Dragon bc she lives with zuko and Iroh.
The party where gen (Jen? Idk) takes Lara jeans scrunchie happens but it’s not as dramatic Toph says she likes running her hands through Katara’s hair and that she misses that from middle school do Katara’s like k bet lol and takes her hair out of the braid. The hair tie has no value and azula is like hey can I have a hair tie? And Toph’s like sure
The ski trip is happening soon and Katara’s nervous she’s actually falling for Toph. Toph’s already 100% certain of her feelings, has tried to subtly show them through quality time and acts of service.
When the ski trip happens, Katara sits with Haru across from tyzula and she’s like. Huh they’re actually pretty nice. So she gets along with them and all so that’s great :)
Toph is annoyed they didn’t sit together but doesn’t brood the way Peter did, she isn’t mad per se just a little let down. She’s dipping her feet in the hot tub or is barely in it idk and Katara comes and talks to her bc she has worked up the courage to confess.
I can’t write confessions of love so you imagine whatever your heart desires and that’s how it goes down. They kiss and then someone takes a picture of them and then when they get back to school they get a ton of homophobic comments and stuff. Apparently people didn’t care until they started being more public(I hate homophobia as a plot point but I hated how it was in the og so I’m making it this.)
Azula didn’t take the pic in this au bc I’m not going to demonize her end of story she’s not nice per se but she’s not down right despicable like some people write her as
Toph finds katara and apologizes, they make up and try to ignore all the hate. It’s hard and Katara’s not as used to it, but eventually it dies down and they’re good again.
That might be boring so reimagine this to your will. I’ll probably make more content about this, stay tuned!!!

Howl’s Moving Castle: I’ve always interpreted it as a maiko movie. Sophie’s conflict with herself and how reserved she is at the start feel very Mai to me and my whole family agrees that Zuko is a like. Flamboyant Howl. (that scene where Howl starts to ooze reminded me of when Zuko got sick from making a good decision)
Ponyo: Yuetara. Katara as Sosuke? She would take such good care of Yue/Ponyo I just KNOW it. Koichi as Hakoda...it just makes sense. Yue as Ponyo would be cool because her dad keeping her trapped kind of makes sense from what we know about Yue’s life. (I actually made some Yue as ponyo art but I will never post it)
My Neighbor Totoro: this one is 100% Sokka and Katara. Kya being sick, Hakodate taking them to visit? Appa as the cat bus and Aang as...idk? That doesn’t make as much sense but um. Anyways I just think this one is really sweet 🥺
Princess Mononoke: I’m not the first person to say this, but suki n sokka. Wolf lady Suki? Yes. And the whole ‘I’ll cut your throat! That’ll shut you up!’ Scene...I would pay to see them as San and Ashitaka. Katara as Ashitaka’s little sister would be so cute 😫
Spirited Away: This one was harder- i can see it as katoph, tyzula, or azutara, but I decided on Tyzula because I’ve used Katara so much already. Azula as Haku??? Ty Lee and no face (mai)? but anyways this au would be everything. Lin would definitely be suki, and the cleaning ladies would be like the kyoshi warriors.
When Marnie Was There: going to be honest I thought this movie was about lesbians til Marnie left the silo with the guy. when I learned they were related I immediately was horrified i thought it was sapphic 😫anyways, it would be cool to see this as Katara and Ikki, or Toph and Opal. I’d go with katara and Ikki though because Marnie is much softer than Toph. Ig the guy katara left the silo with would be Aang, or zuko, or whoever you ship her with. anyways I think that would be sweet :)

I got to meet Dante Basco on Friday. I was the first in line so he greeted me and shook my hand. He was super nice as he chatted with me for a little bit as stuff was set up.
Hell, technically I also got a photo with Greg Baldwin, he’s just over my shoulder.
The one that is the most striking is Zuko, yes his scar is the biggest difference, but what I’m getting at here is well the difference in lightning and the expression, the first image is bright and warm shining above, he’s smiling and happy, the second image, it’s dark and dreary as fire light illuminates his features from below, highlighting his scowl and wroth.
U know when avatar does that thing where it flashes back to a childhood memory of a character and then focuses on their face and fades back in on them at the same angle but older and changed....... gets me every time
So does anyone know of any one shots where someone says that Zuko is an accomplished firebender, but Zuko renounces that and at first the Gaang think he’s just being modest, but then they come to the realization that; “Oh shit, he actually believes that.”

I’ve seen the people freaking out about Lee from the tea shop is actually Fire Lord Zuko, and the one of transfer student Kuzon is Avatar Aang, memes. But I propose, people finding out that Mushi from the tea shop is not only the Fire Lords uncle, but also is the famed Dragon of The West, who laid a 600 day siege and broke through the walls of Ba Sing Se.
