Part 18
Summary: Dawn crosses over leaving the ghosts with more questions. And the ghosts discover what Mr Martin and Janet has been up too.
As Wally enters the classroom, you quickly wipe tears away from your eyes. “I’ll give you two a moment.” Tommy says as he leaves the room. “It’s nothing, Walls, I saw Lily’s date kiss another girl in front of her and felt bad I couldn’t her, Tommy saw that I was upset so he was just comforting me.” You reply no longer emotional, thanks resets. Wally lets out a sigh. “Shit, I’m sorry Y/N. I know it’s hard seeing her and not being able to do anything. Maybe we can talk to Maddie who can tell Simon that you can see her?” he suggested. “Thanks, but its ok. I don’t think Simon has told his Lily or any of his friends that he can see and speak to Maddie, plus they have bigger problems than mine.” You say. Wally gives you a hug.
You and Wally head back to the dance and see that Dawn isn’t in her spot. Suddenly all the lights flicker and you hear a humming sound. You look at Wally and he’s confused as Tommy, Rhonda and Charley appear out of the gym into the hall. “Did Dawn just cross over?” you ask. “Does anyone remember that happening when Janet crossed over?” Wally said. “Nope but come with me I have something to show you guys.” Rhonda says as she walks down the hall, ushering you to follow.
She leads you down to the boiler room and to another room hidden behind another bigger door. “Where are we? And why did you drag us down here?” You ask as you all pile into the room. “It’s called a fallout shelter; it was built in the school during the cold war. Look, I know I should have said something before, but I found this room and I found these.” She holds a notebook like the ones Mr Martin writes in during group. “He’s been writing about everything we have ever told him. All of our personal shit in these books.” She says as she moves another box revelling more notebooks. “Why would he do that?” Wally asks. “He’s been experimenting with us, talking about our trauma, studying us for his own benefit to cross over.” she says. “That doesn’t make any sense.” Tommy says. “It gets worse.” She says as she moves a barrel over. “I also found these. All the stuff we had on us when we died.” “My Walkman, I haven’t seen this since the accident.” You say as you pick it up noticing the other items in the barrel. “So, he’s’ been hiding all of this, studying us all for his benefit?” Charley asks. “Looks like it. I know I should have said something before when I suspected something, I just didn’t know what I would find out.” Rhonda says. Suddenly the door behind you slams shut. Wally and Tommy try to open the door but it wont budge. “What the fuck? Why is the door locked?” Wally yelled as he tried again to open the door. “Over here.” You say as you find another door out of the room. “Charley grab everything you can and let’s get out of here.”
You all head through the door and down a tunnel and then you are launched to the car park. Obviously, the hatch led to somewhere off campus. You gather yourself and run towards the school to find the others. You see Maddie running after Mr Martin and he’s gone before you can get any closer. The others arrive. “Maddie, what’s going on?” You ask. “I remember what happened to me. Mr Martin was there, and someone named Janet. She ran towards me and the next thing I know I’m here.” she says. “But Janet crossed over, that’s what Mr Martin said.” Tommy says. “What if he lied, we never felt what just happened when Janet crossed over.” Rhonda responds. “So, Janet stole Maddie’s body to get out of here? That’s what they have been studying us for to work out how it’s possible and Maddie just happened to be there when it happened.” You say confused and hurt about what they have done. You trusted them, you were friends with Janet, was that all fake.
You all head into the school as Maddie tells you all that she remembers from that night hanging back at end of the group Charley asks, “Did you tell him?” “No, I was too late. I saw him and Maddie kissing.” You whisper to him. “I’m sorry Y/N” he says as he grabs your arm to loop his. “Forget about me we have bigger issues to discuss.” You say. “Y/N your feelings are still valid even if there is other stuff going on” he says giving your arm a reassuring squeeze. Maddie leads everyone to the cafeteria to discuss what to do next.
“I don’t understand how he just vanished, where could he have gone?” Tommy asks as he paces back and forth. “I saw you and him running and I saw this red light and then he was gone.” You reply. “When I was holding my letter before, and walking passed the English room there was a red glow coming from under the door. What if that’s where he is” Rhonda says. “What are you saying?” you ask. “You said you saw a red glow and then he disappeared, what if he’s found a way into some twisted version of our hell. He was running past the marching band what of he figured out something we haven’t.” Rhonda says. Remembering that you told Charley to grab Mr Martins notebooks, “What if it’s in these notebooks? He must have kept a log of everything he was doing. If we read it, we might find out what he knows and how he disappeared.” You say. “Ok Wally, Charley and Y/N, you go get the notebooks and try to find out what he knows, and we will stay here to think of a plan.” Maddie says.
You, Charley, and Wally change back into your regular clothes head back to the fallout shelter to grab as many of Mr Martins notebooks as you can. You go down the stairs and try to open the door and it won’t move. “Why hasn’t this reset?” Wally says has he tries to open the door. “Charley, help me look around there could be another door around here.” You say as you fan out around the boiler room. Nothing. There is no other way into the shelter. You exit the boiler room and head outside. Wally runs over to the fence and gets annoyed when he sees the hatch that leads to the room on the other side of the boundary. Frustrated that he can’t get into the room he yells but you are distracted. Charley grabbed all our items when we were in the room before and you forgot that you had your Walkman on you. You are near the parking lot and see a red glow all around the ground. Like what you saw when Mr Martin disappeared.
“Hey, you guys” you yell to the guys who are still at the fence line. They turn their attention to you. “Everything ok, Darling” Wally asks as he and Charley make their way over to you. “I remembered I had my Walkman on me, and this red glow has appeared like when Maddie was chasing after Mr Martin. What if he’s in our traumas... scars whatever hiding because he knows we are getting close to whatever he and Janet have been hiding for so long.” You reply. “Um, Y/N there’s no red glow around.” Charley said confused. You take a moment to think and then you had a theory. “What if because it’s my scar. Where I died and I’m holding onto something I had that day. What if it’s like a key and when you have it near the place you die, it opens something that only I can step into. Like Rhonda said a glow appeared under the door where she died, and she was holding her letter. What if Mr Martin and Janet figured that out and he’s in hiding. He’s hiding in our scars and the only way we can find him is if we go into them”
“Not gonna happen.” Wally snaped as you suggested that you go into your scar. “Walls, it may be the only way we can find him. Who knows where he is? I at least have to try to go in to find him.” You say trying to reassure him. “But you can’t go in this thing and relive your death. It was traumatic, I was there, and it was awful. I don’t want that for you.” Wally sighed as he grabbed your hand and gave it a squeeze. “Witnessing your death Walls, was the hardest things I have ever experienced, if I can experience that I can experience mine.” You said and before Wally or Charley can say anything, you turn and walk into the parking lot into your scar.

Part 17
Summary: After discovering that Wally and Maddie are going to homecoming together you spent the whole night in the storage room, leaving Wally and the others worried about you. Maddie shares a theory about her death. And it’s the homecoming dance where someone else admits their feelings for you.
It was the next day and you were still in the storage room under the stage. You hadn’t planned to stay there the whole night, but it felt good to be by yourself for once and not have one of the others bothering you. You get off the couch and go up the stairs and lift the hatch and walk on the stage. Walking the halls of the school you knew eventually you will run into someone. “Hey Y/N where have you been? We were looking everywhere for you.” Charley asks as he catches up to you. “I just needed some space, I’m ok.” You reply not wanting to talk about the night before, but you knew he would ask anyways. “So, how did it go? Tell me everything.” He asks. “I didn’t tell him.” you say. “I saw my family. My sister, her husband and for the first time in decades my parents. I was so overwhelmed seeing them but knowing they can’t see me, hurt Charley. I went to find Wally to talk it all out when I overheard Maddie ask him to the dance as friends.” You say back softly. “Ok, I didn’t expect that. Seeing your family must have been hard since yesterday was also your death anniversary.” He said. “Yeah, Wally looked happy when Maddie asked so I’m happy if he’s happy even if it isn’t with me.” You say back fighting tears from falling down your face. “But you said it was just as friends, right? Maybe you still have a chance?” Charley asked. Looking around to make sure there was no one else around you say. “Yeah maybe. I’ll just hang out tonight and see how it goes.” You said to him as you head to the teachers’ lounge.
As you walk in you see Wally, Tommy, Rhonda, and Maddie on the lounges as you can hear Maddie share a theory that she thinks one of her teachers may have killed her. “Oh, shit a teacher did this to you?” you ask as you approach the couches. “Yeah, maybe it’s looking that way yeah.” Before you can ask why she thinks that Wally grabs your arm and pulls you away from the group out the room. “Wally, what are you doing? I’m trying to see if there is anything I can do to help her.” You say as you try to get away from his grip on your arm. “Darling, I was worried about you last night? Where did you go? You said you wanted to talk to me about something.” He rambles on with question after question. “I saw my family here and I got overwhelmed so I went to the theatre storage room to be by myself I didn’t mean to, but I feel asleep.” You said. “I’m really sorry I scared you.” “Hey, its ok, I know it would have been hard to see them after all these years.” Wally says as he hugs you. “I wish you came and found me, I don’t like that you had to handle that by yourself, I was so worried when I couldn’t find you or when the others said they didn’t know where you were. It was a hard day for us yesterday.” He adds with a shaky voice. “I know I should have found you, I’m sorry Walls. I just had to get away and I remembered there was a couch in the storage room, and I knew no one would know where I was. But your right I should have at least told you.” you say as you let go of his hug.
“What did you want to talk about?” he asks. You try to give him an excuse but all you could come up with was “You know what I forgot, after all the emotions it must have slipped my mind.” You respond. “Ok, but can you promise me something? Promise to never go anywhere where no one knows where you are, we were all worried.” He asks looking in your eyes. This closeness you hadn’t had that moment since the storage room on New Year’s Eve years ago. “I promise Walls. I will go find the others and tell them I’m sorry then we can get ready for the dance.” You say to him pretending you didn’t know that he was already going with Maddie. “I forgot, Maddie asked me to be her date as a friend since she doesn’t know anyone and I know we always hang out together, I just felt bad, but I can tell her I it’s off and take you instead.” He says fractally barely breathing between words. “Walls its ok. Take Maddie I will hang out with Charley and Rhonda.”
At the dance, everyone had taken advantage of the theatre storage room and luckily the drama kids just did the musical Hairspray so there were heaps of dresses to choose from Charley was right, I could still tell Wally I love him, Maddie and him are just here as friends it’s not like they are dating. You pick up a dress you knew Wally would love, a dark blue midi dress with florals at the bottom. You head to the girl’s bathroom and change into your dress and do your hair and makeup. You walk out the bathroom and Tommy is standing there as if he was waiting for you.
“Hey, Y/N you look nice.” “Thank you.” You replied nervously as you and him walk to the gym. “Look I’m just gonna come out and say it, I like you Y/N and I have for a really long time. I never said anything because I assumed you and Wally were in love but after observing for years, I learnt that’s not true, that you two are just best friends.” He says. Your mind goes blank. He likes me? This whole time he has. “Tommy, I think you are really nice and I’m glad you and Wally are good friends, but I don’t see us as that. I’m sorry I just see you as a friend.” You say. “Is this because of what happened between me and Rhonda? We talked about it since then and it was so long ago.” He questioned. “No, I know you resolved things between you and her. But I am actually in love with Wally, I have been for 41 years. I’m telling him tonight. I’m really am sorry but I’m just telling the truth.” You say as you feel another weight lift off your shoulders. Finally, someone else knows, now you just need to tell him. “41 years? Why have you kept it for so long?” he asks. “I was actually going to tell him at homecoming in ’83 but he died, and then so did I and I didn’t want my feelings to get in the way when we were going through the transition between life and death. I couldn’t have done this without him, and I couldn’t risk him not replicating my feelings, he means so much to me.” You respond.
“Is that why Rhonda calls you chickee?” he laughs. “Yeah, that’s why. I’m actually going to tell him at the dance, I even picked out a dress in his favourite colour.” You say with a smirk on your face thinking about Wally. “Well, I’m happy for you guys, really. And I’m happy you were honest with me.” Tommy adds and he gives you a hug. You walk into the gym, already filled with students and you see posters up for homecoming queen and in the middle a photo of Maddie her friends set up.
You see Charley, Rhonda, and Maddie at the drinks table while they watch Wally dance around to Steppin’ out by Joe Jackson, a favourite song of his. “Y/N you look amazing, thank goodness they just did Hairspray because that dress was made for you.” Charley gushes as he directs you to take a spin. “Thanks.” You respond. “So, are you doing it tonight Chickee?” Rhonda asks as she takes another sip of punch. “I’m nervous as hell, but yes I am.” You reply as you fix your dress up. “And I’m gathering that we are talking about it in front of him, I gather Tommy knows?” Charley asks. “Yeah, she just told me after she rejected my feelings, but I’m happy for her.” Tommy says. “Wait what? You like Y/N?” Charley gasps as he puts down his drink and crosses his arms. “Yeah, for a while actually, but she was honest with me and doesn’t see me that way and says she loves Wally. But I all I want is to see her happy.” Tommy admits as Wally approaches, and you notice that he isn’t with Maddie.
“Wow you all look great.” Wally says and he turns his attention to you. “Especially you, Y/N.” he says as he wraps his arm around you. You feel heat rise to your cheeks as you ask him. “Hey, where’s Maddie?” “Oh, her friends have hatched some plan about finding how who killed her.” Wally responds as he puts his hands in his pockets. Out the corner of your eye you see your niece and her date at the photobooth. “Lily looks beautiful, I wish I was there for her.” You say as the others direct their attention to the photobooth. When you turn back around you see Maddie and Wally are no longer there as he has dragged her to the dance floor. You stood back and watched them dance and can’t help getting jealous. This was looking way more than them just being friends you thought. But how can I be mad. That was Wally’s personality to make everyone feel included and fit in. putting your drink down you say to the group. “I’ll be back, just need to head to the bathroom.” And you leave before the others can respond.
In the hallway, you spot Dawn in her usual spot. “Didn’t feel like joining the dance again this year?” you ask as you look up at her. “No. Those kids are so mean I saw two guys bully a girl because her outfit was 70s inspired and I couldn’t do anything about it.” She says as she strokes her hair through her hands. “That’s awful, kids of this generation suck.” You reply. “Well anyways I was heading to the bathroom, bye Dawn.” You say as you look at her for a response. You make your way to the bathroom and out the corner of your eye you see Wally lying on the grass looking up at the night sky. You can tell he is sad, so you decide to head outside to meet with him. You head to the door and just about to approach him, you see Maddie and Wally kiss. Your heart shattered into a million pieces and tears stream down your face as you witness them kiss. I really fucked this up you thought as you head back inside.
You go to the gym to try to talk to anyone, but Charley and Rhonda are nowhere to be seen, just Tommy. Shit I can’t let him see me like this, not after he admitted feelings for me. But it was too late tommy sees you and rushes towards you. “Hey, what’s wrong?” he says in a low tone. “I... I waited too long. I just saw Maddie and Wally kissing.” You mumble as you wipe tears from your face. “Shit I’m sorry Y/N. Come on let’s get out of here.” He says as he wraps his arm around you and directs you out of the gym. He takes you out of the gym and takes you to an empty classroom and he just lets you cry. “Fuck, I’m sorry Tommy, you shouldn’t have to see me this way you just- “he cuts you off. “It’s ok. I’m still your friend, I’m still going to support you.” he says as he wraps his arms around you in a hug. Suddenly you hear the door open, and Wally is standing there. “What’s going on Darling?"

Part 16:
Summary: Maddie’s death is all anyone could talk about and since she can talk to one of her living friend’s things have become complicated. It was homecoming and the anniversary of your death; you decide to finally tell Wally how you feel until someone does first.
The mystery behind Maddie’s death is all anyone could talk about, as you and your friends have agreed to help her solve her death. It was the homecoming game tonight, and it is also the 40-year anniversary of your and Wally’s death. You, Charley, and Rhonda are painting a banner for Wally to relive his glory days.
“I’m going to do it; I’m finally going to tell Wally how I feel tonight.” You say to Charley and Rhonda. “Finally, chickee about time.” Rhonda said. “Yeah, maybe now you can not call me chickee since I’m not chickening out anymore?” You ask Rhonda. “You will always still be chickee, chickee.” She says. “What made you decide it was finally time?” Charley asks. Charley found out about your feelings for Wally by accident when you were giving him his ‘afterlife ghost tour’. And since then, you and him have been close. All of you have become close I mean what else was there to do, you were dead. “I don’t know. I think it’s been 41 years and I know I have been annoying you guys for so long about it, it just feels right, and I thought it was fitting I tell him at the homecoming game like I planned too 40 years ago.” You say as nerves fill your body as you were about to tell Wally that you love him. “And then we could go to the homecoming dance together, but it will be different than all the time before because I will have told him how I feel.” You add.
“This is so exciting!” Charley exclaims as he puts his paint brush down and rushes to give you a hug. “Please tell me everything after- well maybe not everything I don’t need to know all the details about heterosexual sex.” Charley says. “Charley!” you can’t believe he just said that. “I’m just telling him I love him in not expecting it to lead to sex.” “Oh, come on chickee. You haven’t even thought about it leading to you too having sex?” Rhonda questions as she stands up to join you and Charley. “Well of course I have it’s been 41 years, but I don’t expect it to happen tonight.” You say as Charley and Rhonda look at each other then back to you. “Sure, whatever you say Hun.” Charley adds as he gets back to painting before Wally walks in to check in on your progress. “The banner looks great guys.” Wally says as he does his stretches. “Hey Walls, after you relieve your glory, can I talk to you after?” you ask him nervously. “This feels like de je vu doesn’t it.” He laughs “Of course you can Darling, I will find you after.” He says as he plants a quick kiss on your head and leaves the gym. “No backing out now chickee.” Rhonda says. “You got this Y/N and remember find me later I need details.” Charley adds.
The game has started and you nervously pace behind the bleachers. Homecoming games were always hard for you, it was the die you died after all, and the day Wally died. “Take your seats, the 2023 homecoming game is about to start.” You hear the announcer say over the loudspeakers. Crowds flock to the bleachers and you head to your seat as butterflies swarm your stomach. You can do this it’s been 41 years, it’s time to stop doubting yourself. You repeated over and over in your head. The living football players smash through their banner as Wally heads through the one you and the others were making earlier. He was running around the field and screaming with the crowd. He was such golden retriever. As you look around the stand, you see Rhonda sitting with Mr Martin and Charley a row back writing his letter to Emilio since Maddie promised she would help him since she can talk to her living friend, Simon, which you still don’t know how that is possible, but it helps Maddie trying to solve her own murder.
Still looking around waiting for Wally to finish reliving his glory days, in the crowd you spot your sister Mary and her husband Matthew. “I can’t believe our baby girl is on the cheer team. I wish Y/N was here to witness this.” Mary says to Matthew shovelling some popcorn in her mouth. “She is right here” Matthew says softly as he places his hand on Mary’s heart. “Are your parents still coming to see Lily?” Matthew adds. “I think so, you know how hard it’s been since Y/N died here. Ill text Mom to see how far away they are.” She says as reaching to get her phone. You had been so preoccupied with helping Maddie and trying to convince yourself its now a good time to tell Wally, you didn’t even notice Lily was on the field with the cheer team. Just then, you see your parents for the first time since Mary graduated in 1987. Tears instantly stream down your face, even though they look much older now you could tell who they were. They walked up the bleachers and sat with Mary and Matthew. You just stand there watching them. Your family was there right there in front of you, and you couldn’t even talk to them. Your heart swells hearing them talk about Lily and other stories of their lives since you died. You were overwhelmed with emotions. You felt joy because you are finally seeing your family but also sadden that you weren’t there with them. There was only one person that you can talk to and that was Wally.
You set off to find him since, since you couldn’t see him on the field anymore. You head to the canteen area, and you see him and Maddie. “Hey, Wally I was wondering if you would go to the dance with me as a friend? I just don’t know a lot of people yet.” Maddie asks. “Uh yeah sure.” Wally says as they walk in the other direction. You continue to stand there not moving and staring blankly in the space where they just were standing. Idiot, you waited too long and now he’s going out with Maddie you thought to yourself. Overcome with so many emotions you run with tears streaming down your face you run as far as your legs will take you without them feeling like they will collapse from beneath you.
You run to the girl’s toilets where no one else was as you sank to the floor and tucked your knees to your chest and just sob. Seeing your family and then seeing Wally ask Maddie to the dance when you always go together broke your heart. You don’t know how long you stayed there on the bathroom floor before you decided it was time to leave. Thank goodness for resets no one would able tell you were crying, and your makeup went back to how it was, how it always was. You exit the bathroom not wanting to see or talk to anyone, you head to theatre as you discovered a couch in the storage room. You lift the hatch door about to climb down and you hear Mina yell “What are you doing, you will disturb the play?” “It’s ok Mina I won’t touch anything.” You shout back as you head down the hatch knowing she won’t remember you down there since she was a looper. You turn the light on, find an old blanket and a book in one of the boxes as you sank down in the couch wanting to forget the day.

Part 15:
A/N I’m so happy you are still here reading my story; it means so much to me. This part and every part moving forward is a time jump, 39 years after the events of new years and after your kiss. I wanted to give Wally and Y/N a background story of them being new ghosts and what their friendship was like before their deaths, which is kind of the sub plot of my story. Now the year is 2023 in line with season 1 and then eventually season 2 of the show and I want to write a little bit of what happened before Maddie appears. And your character will learn that Wally really likes her, and you become jealous.
Summary: Its 39 years later and you reminisce over everything that has happened over the years. You and Wally are closer than ever, and you finally decide to tell him that you have loved him for 41 years, that is until a new ghost comes along and changes things between you.
39 years later…
You, Wally, Rhonda, and Tommy head to the gym to start your group therapy session for the day. Charley, who died in 1993 after suffering anaphylaxis, quickly became a part of your friend group. He was off trying to talk to the new girl who had been roaming the halls for three days confused. He was being a sort of guide for her like You and Wally were for him when he died. Since your death there had been 8 other deaths at school, all of them except for Charley were loopers. Also, Janet somehow found a way to cross over a year ago. You and her became quick friends and was sadden when Mr Martin she had crossed over. You were hurt that she crossed over without saying anything like all those years of sharing secrets and other details about yourself had meant nothing.
On the other hand, your friendship with Wally has become stronger than ever. You never talked about that night in the storage room again, but your love for him that hasn’t changed, it somehow became stronger. You finish setting out all the chairs as Mr Marin enters the gym, sitting his stuff down beside him. Just as he was about to start the gym doors open. You see Charley and the new girl, walk between the basketball team, even though they can’t hurt you or you can’t hurt them, you walk around them regardless. He takes a seat next to Rhonda and encourages the girl to take a seat. Looking at her closely, you could tell she was traumatized, whatever happened to her must have been bad. Despite the look of terror on her face you can’t help but notice how beautiful she looked. She had short blonde hair that framed her face, blue eyes. She was wearing a flannelette shirt over a tank top with black jeans and boots.
“Welcome everyone. I’m Mr Martin, since we have a new student with us, how about we go around the circle and introduce ourselves?” he asked to the group looking at Rhonda to his left. “Rhonda” she says as she takes the lollipop out of her mouth before putting it back in. “Well, you already know me but I’m Charley.” He said looking at her. “Hey, I’m Tommy.” Tommy said in her direction giving her a wave. “I’m Y/N nice to meet you.” You said giving her a friendly nod. “Hey, I’m Wally.” Wally said. “Now you know everyone here why you don’t introduce yourself?” Mr Martin asked looking at her. “I’m good” she says as she puts her elbows on her knees and looks to the floor. She looks over to Charley and he gives her a nod and smile saying you got this. She sighs again and says, “I’m Maddie and I don’t know why I’m here.” Before anyone can say anything, Rhonda says as she sticks her lollipop to the side of her mouth. “So, how did you die?” “Geez, Rhonda, way to be straight forward with it” you say as you look over to her and she shrugs her shoulders. “I don’t know. They haven’t found my body.” She replied. “Oh, shit you were murdered” Wally said as he leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. You give him a nudge with your elbow and whisper “Walls, she’s clearly upset just take it easy.” “Ok that maybe true but you are here now and coming here was a big step. Getting support even in death is hard.” Mr Martin says giving her a nod.
Suddenly group was over, and you were helping pack things away. Wally leaves with Tommy to go for a run. Charley went to find Maddie as she walked out of the gym in a rush after the group was over leaving You, Rhonda, and Mr Martin to pack up the chairs. As you finish and leave with Rhonda you ask, “Do you think Maddie will be ok? I haven’t seen anyone more traumatized.” “She’ll be fine chickee. With Charley being her little ghost guide he won’t let her get away from all this that easy.” She says as you exit the gym. “I’m heading to the library to chill, wanna come with?” she asks. You were about to answer when you see her, your niece. “No, I think I will look out for Lily for a bit.” You said looking at her. Rhonda nods her head understanding even though your niece can’t see you, you like to be around for her. Your sister Mary eventually came to Split River High after you were supposed to graduate. You watched her all through her time there even saw her fall in love with her now husband Matthew in her senior year. And now you watch Lily, the same way you did your sister.
After a while of watching your sister around the school, you learned that she will never see you or know you are there but, in some way, it was a comfort for you seeing and hearing her. Your parents eventually moved away from Split River after Mary graduated which you found out through Wally’s mom at the homecoming games. Wally’s parents still attended every single homecoming game after his death, but your parents couldn’t bear the thought. They would only come to the school briefly during Mary’s parent teacher conferences.
You watch as Lily opens her locker and something you’d never noticed before, taped in her locker was her friends. You recognised Simon and Nicole before but until now you just noticed that Maddie was there too. You wondered how you never noticed before. Lily knows Maddie. You couldn’t believe it. You go to find her and tell her that Lily is your niece that you never met. Eager to know more about her. You head to the library and see Wally, Tommy, Charley, Rhonda, and Maddie sitting on the couches. “Hey Darling I was just about to look for you, but Rhonda said you were with Lily.” Wally said as you approach them all on the couches. Before you can say anything, Maddie says. “Wait how do you know Lily?” “She’s, my niece. I died before I could even meet her.” You respond. “Wait how long have you been here?” she asks as you sit on the couch beside her. “Wally and I have been here for 40 years.” You say. “Holy shit 40 years? That’s-“ “I’ve been here for 60 years” Rhonda chimes in. “Wait you have all been here for that long? Can’t you just leave?” she asks. “Not that simple, pussy toes. We don’t know how but there has been this barrier that keeps us here and whenever you try to leave you just end up back to the same place you died.” Rhonda snares.
You can see Maddie is slowly trying to process the information she just received. “That’s why we attend the group therapy sessions, it may seem silly, but it helps knowing you aren’t alone.” Tommy says. Asking about Lily now, doesn’t seem like the right time you thought. “Wait so you all died here at this school, how has it not been shut down?” Maddie asks. “Bets us. Anyways I would love to stay and chat, but I want to do some training, care to join me, Y/N?” Wally asks as he extends his hand to you. “Sure Wally, but I’m reading my book on the bench not running around if I don’t need too.” You said taking his hand. “I wouldn’t expect anything less from you Darling” Wally responds as you and him leave the library. When out the room Maddie asks. “They seem close.” “Oh yeah they have been best friends since birth, even died on the same day- separate accidents though. But yeah over 40 years of friendship between them too, not even death separated them.” Charley replies.

Part 14:
Summary: Its New Year’s Eve and the ghosts hold a celebration to bring in the new year. And you and Wally share an intimate moment together.
It was now new years eve, another holiday you loved and the first spending it without your family. As you look out over the snow-covered school grounds, you sit, and wonder is this how you are going to feel for every holiday? Miserable and sad that you are away from your family not even knowing if they are ok. “Why are you staring out the window for, while there’s a gathering in the library?” Wally asks as he joins you sitting on ledge in the hallway. “I just needed a moment, I’m missing home.” You say as you turn to face him. “Me too. We’d be at my house with my parents having Pizza while playing board games and then watching the countdown on tv.” He said with a smile. “Yeah, and we would make bets to see which of our parents will fall asleep before midnight and it was always my dad.” You laugh as you both reminisce over the memory. A soft sigh leaves your lips not wanting more tears to fall, you have done enough of that in the past. “Let’s go to the library to join the others, you know what they say, misery loves company.” Wally says as he stands up of the ledge and extends his hand towards you to take. You laugh as you take his hand and follow him to the library. “Hey, can I ask you something?” He asks. “You don’t even need to ask of course you can.” You responded a bit curious to what he wants to ask. “Do you know what’s going on between Rhonda and Tommy? They have been acting so weird lately and when I ask Tommy, he changes the subject.” He questioned as he stops in the halls waiting for you to respond before going into the library. “Yeah, I know, I’m not really meant to say anything. All I will say is he used her, and she really liked him.” You whispered to make sure no one else would hear. “Fuck, that’s worse than what I thought. I can talk to him.” He adds. “I think Rhonda has moved on from it after belting him with snowballs last week.” You say. “Oh, that’s what that was about. I thought she was really competitive.” He replies nonchalantly. “Oh, she is. I’m glad I wasn’t on the receiving end, some of those looked like they hurt.” You say giggling. “I’m really glad you are making new friends, Y/N. You have so much love to share, you deserve it.” He says and before you can say anything else he adds “But none of them will take my position of best friend, right?” “No Walls, I only have one best friend in life and in death and that will always be you, no contest” you say as you embrace in a hug. There’s that happy feeling in your chest again every time he hugs you that you never want to let go. I can’t risk losing him, even if I just remain his friend, I don’t want this feeling to ever go away.
In the library you see decorations around the room and a table filled with snacks and drinks from the various vending machines around. There was even a tv that had the new year’s countdown on that you would watch every year. “Ok everyone” Mr Martin says “Gather around its almost midnight. I know you would rather be with your families but let’s make the most of it has we ring in 1984.” He shouts to try to get the attention of the others on the other side of the room. You all crowd around the TV waiting for the ball to drop in Times Square. “Its starting!” Janet exclaims as she starts to countdown, you all join in “3, 2, 1... Happy New Year” you all say together as you hug as a group. As everyone else is happy and celebrating you feel a pang in your heart. Its 1984, the year you were supposed to graduate and go to college and start a new life you thought. Without anyone noticing you slip out of the library and walk the halls not knowing where you are going, just knowing you wanted to be far away.
Back in the library, everyone is celebrating all expect you. “Hey, as anyone seen Y/N?” Wally asks to the others. “I didn’t even realise she wasn’t here anymore.” Tommy says. “I can help you look for her if you want Wally?” Janet adds with Rhonda beside her nodding that she will help too. “No, it’s ok, I’ve got this.” Wally says as he puts his drink down and leaves the library.
It doesn’t take him long to find you as you left the door open to the storage room, where all the things are from your memorial. He finds you on the floor, looking through a box of your stuff. “Are you ok Darling?” he asks as he enters the room. A gasp leaves your mouth as you didn’t hear him come in. “Fuck! Wally, you scared me.” “Sorry, what are you doing in here? We are all worried about you.” He asks. “This was the year we were meant to graduate. To leave Split River and go off to college. We have been talking about going to collage since middle school and now we can’t because we are dead.” You say as you can’t help but tears to fall down your face. “We’ve dreamed about it for so long. We would get a place not far from campus and I was going to be a writer while you had your football scholarship working out what you wanted to do. And then this happened and now we are trapped here forever stuck in high school.” You sob as you are gasping for air to enter your lungs. “How are we just meant to sit back and watch all of our other classmates graduate and leave knowing that will never be us.” You say as Wally sits down beside you. “I don’t know what to say Darling. Do you want to talk to one of the others since they have been through it already?” he asks, and he puts his arm around your shoulder and using his thumb to wipe the tears away from your eyes. “Yeah maybe, but not yet. I just want to look through all this stuff, we never did after Christmas come back in here.” You respond back as you slump your head down onto his chest. “When is death meant to be easier? Because so far besides a couple of instances, it’s been hell.” You mumble into his chest.
“I don’t know Darling, maybe that’s what Mr Martin is trying to do with his group therapy sessions. For trying not to picture what we in as hell.” He says back softly. You lift your head up of his chest and look at his eyes. God, they were beautiful eyes, you always thought so. And in the heat of the moment, you lock eyes and lean into a kiss. Your body becomes hot as you feel him under your touch. The moment you have been dreaming about of years is finally happening with the boy love. Then reality hits, you are kissing Wally, your best friend who doesn’t know about your feelings. Realising what you are doing, you snap your head back and brush your fingers over your lips moments after they were on Wally’s soft lips. “Shit Wally. I’m so sorry. I got caught up in the moment I’m sorry.” You blurt out. “Darling, its ok. Don’t worry about it.” He says back softly. “I really hope this doesn’t change anything between us, I can’t lose our friendship especially in this place.” You ramble on not allowing Wally to interrupt you before you spiral.
“Y/N look at me.” He says as he places a finger under your chin and moves it, so you are eye level. “You will never lose me Darling; you’re stuck with me forever, literally. A kiss isn’t going to change anything between us, I will still be your friend through anything. I’m there for you no matter what.” You give him a hug and say, “God I’m so glad our moms are friends because I have the most sweetest person in my life.” You mumble into his shoulder.

Part 13:
A/N this part contains talks about sex (no smut just yet)
Summary: its Christmas and you try to find the perfect gifts for everyone including Wally, as you reminisce about Christmas of the past with your families. And you and Rhonda share secrets.
6 weeks later…
It’s been nearly 4 months since your deaths and its almost Christmas. Janet as informed you that they have a party and exchange gifts. You have spent the last couple of weeks getting everyone gifts trying not to think about that its your first Christmas since your death and also the first one without your family. The others were easy to get gifts for. You made Dawn a bracelet with things you found around the school with a 70s vibe you know she’d love. You found an old scientist book and worked to fix the broken pages to give to Janet. A kid dropped a new pair of Ray ban sunglasses that you thought Tommy would like. For Rhonda you were stumped for a while until you found a Walkman filled with songs from the 50s and 60s. The only person you were struggling to find a gift was for Wally. You’d actually already made his gift; you were working on it all year. It was a scrapbook filled with polaroids of you and him, on the holiday to Milwaukee, when he went to Minnesota for an away game and countless of other photos of you and him together. You worked so hard on it for so long that you are sad you will never be able to give it to him. You wanted to give him the perfect gift. Wondering around the school when you noticed a storage room door that was unlocked. Weird you thought this door is always locked, you open the door made sure no one was around, you went in, shut the door behind you and turned the light on, to only see the room filled with yours and Wally’s belongings. This is the stuff your parents brought for your memorial; they mustn’t have picked it up. You look around the room and peeking out of a box was your scrapbook. Excitement washes over you. You didn’t even realise it was at your memorial and now it’s here to give to him. You exit the room making sure no one was there; you crept out of the room and went to the art room to find some paper to wrap it. You can’t believe your luck that you found it; I can’t wait to give it to him. You thought as butterflies swirled around in your stomach the nervous and the excited kind.
A week later and it was Christmas, a day you are normally so excited about for, you are sad. It was the first Christmas without your family. Right about now, Mary would be waking you up excitedly and run downstairs to open your presents and then you would get organized for Christmas lunch. Since your extended family live all over the country, you would have a small family lunch with Wally’s family. Memories of past Christmas’ fill your head as tears stream down your face, you wish you could be with them. You hadn’t even noticed Wally was sitting beside you on the couch in the library. “Merry Christmas, Darling.” He says when you finally acknowledge he was there. “Merry Christmas Walls.” You say as you wipe your tears away. “I know I miss them too but we at least we have each other, the others don’t have their friends and family.” He says back softly. “Yeah, your right I’m sorry it’s just hard. I um actually wanted to give your gift to you without the others if that, ok?” you ask moving your body to the side and crossing your legs on the couch. “I actually was going to ask you the same thing.” He replied.
You hand him your gift as he unwraps it and a wide smile spreads over his face. “How did you do all of this?” he asked as he flipped through the pages. “I actually finished it the day before we died, and my parents must have brought it for the memorial. I found a storage room with the stuff from the memorial our parents mustn’t have picked it all up yet.” You reply as he continues to go through the scrapbook. “This might be the best gift I’ve ever gotten. Now we can see photos of our families whenever we want.” He says as he embraces you in a hug. “Thank you, Y/N, now open yours” he says as he hands over a small box. You open the box and see a beautiful gold pendant necklace, the same as his, engraved with Darling on the back of the pendant. “Walls, this is so beautiful. Where did you find this?” you ask as you put the necklace around your neck. “I found the storage room too and my mum must have brought this with her. I got this for you a while ago too.” He responded. “I love it, thank you.” You say as you give him another hug. “You know maybe we should go back in that storage room and get more of our stuff.” You said as you let go of the hug. “Oh, absolutely I mean when we pick things up its just a copy, the real stuff will still be there sour parents will know that no one has taken anything.” He says. “How about we check it out after the Christmas get together with the others?” you ask as he nods his head and walks to the library door and to the teachers’ lounge.
In the teachers’ lounge you all exchange gifts and eat food that Tommy took from the cafeteria. “What Christmas traditions you both have?” Janet asks as she bites down on a chocolate chip cookie. “Well since both our extended families live all over the country, our families normally get together and spend the whole day together.” Wally replied. “We would have lunch and then we would go out in the snow for the whole afternoon. My sister and I would team up against Wally in a snowball fight and of course we would win-““because its two against one and Mary has a mean throw” Wally says butting in as you and Janet laugh. “What if we do a snowball fight on the field? We can find some warmer clothes in the theatre.” Tommy adds. “I’m in. I can’t think of nothing more fun than throwing cold snow at you.” Rhonda says as she gives Tommy a mean look. You wondered what that was about, they were close at the Halloween dance.
Excitement fills your body. A day you thought would be so hard may turn into one of the best days you’ve had since you died. You all pile into the theatre storeroom and found some warm clothes and head to the football field. As you head out to the field you held back Rhonda, “Hey what was that going on between you and Tommy?” you asked knowing she will properly snap back and not say anything. She stops walking and says “I thought he liked me, but he was just using me for sex because he was horny. I should have never said yes when he asked.” She replied. “Shit that’s awful, I’m sorry he did that. Like what the fuck dude? Just jerk off to yourself if your horny like we all do.” You blurt out before you can even realise what you were saying. Before you can correct yourself, Rhonda says “And what’s got you all horny. It doesn’t have to do with a certain tall person with chocolate eyes does it.” “Shush” you say as everyone else isn’t that far ahead. “Ok, yes I like Wally. I’m actually in love with him.” You reply. “Yeah, I know it’s so fucking obvious, we all know it- well maybe expect Wally.” She says “And he’s not going to know, not yet anyways I don’t want to jeopardize our relationship when we are stuck here. What if I say I’m in love with him and he doesn’t back, I can’t lose him Rhonda I just can’t.” You say almost crying “Ok, chill Hun. It’s not a big deal” she says “It is to me. He means everything to me, and I can’t do whatever this ‘in between’ thing without him. Please don’t say anything, I’ll even throw all my snowballs at Tommy’s face for what he did” you respond. “I won’t but leave all the snowballs to me, I want to through them at his dumb face.” She says as you both laugh as you walk to the field. The game starts and the first one to throw a snowball was Rhonda in Tommy’s face, you both laugh as you continue throwing snowballs at each other even Mr Martin was joining in. for what seem like the first time in a really long time the other ghosts aren’t miserable on Christmas, they are having fun and you can’t help but feel joy seeing everyone enjoy themselves.
As the game finishes Janet comes up to you pointing towards your necklace. “That’s beautiful, Y/N where did you find it?” “Wally gave it to me for Christmas. We actually found a storage room filled with our things from our memorials that our parents haven’t picked up yet.” You reply. She reaches towards the necklace stopping before she touches it, waiting for your permission too, you nod, and she takes closer look at it. “It’s matching the one Wally has, right? And he engraved it too.” “Yeah, he has always called me Darling for as long as I can remember, and I have always liked his necklace, so he got me one to match.” You say while looking around you to make sure no one else was around. “I think that is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard.” She says as she lets the necklace go and hang back around your chest. “Have you given anymore thought about telling him how you feel?” she adds as she slips her arm around yours, linking you together. “Not yet, Rhonda thinks I should too but, I don’t know it’s hard” you say to her. “Oh, Rhonda knows too?” she questioned. “Yeah, I accidently blurted it out when I was comforting her about something.” You respond. “Anyways, she promised not to say anything. I want to really weigh the pros and cons of it all. Like yeah, we may be here forever and being with him for God knows how long, would be fucking incredible but also it could end in disaster, and I lose my best friend.” You add. Janet nods and embraces you in a hug. You were glad she was your friend, Rhonda too because you don’t have to bottle in your feelings anymore.

Part 12
Summary: You and Wally share a special moment as you watch the sunrise, you confess your feelings to Janet. And you and Wally decide to write your obituaries when Wally tells you something he has been hiding.
After opening to Wally about your death, both of you decide to write your obituaries. You and Wally walk the halls, looking in all the classrooms looking for Mr. Martin but coming up short. You sport Dawn in her usual spot. “Dawn, have you seen Mr. Martin?” you ask. She continues to stare blankly at the light and stroking her hair through her hands. “No haven’t seen him.” You and Wally continue to walk around going to all the classrooms and nothing. Where the hell is he? You thought. “How about we just wait for group tomorrow we can ask him then.” Wally said. You nod and decide to walk to the cafeteria for some food.
It was the next day and you have woken earlier than usual like before sun rise, so you take that opportunity and head to your spot on the roof with an apple and watch the sun rise. You try to leave quietly trying not to wake Wally up asleep on the couch beside you. It was going good until you accidently bang your knee on the coffee table. “Darling, are you ok?” Wally yawns and his gaze on you. “Sorry Walls I couldn’t get back to sleep so I was going to watch the sunrise. Go back to sleep.” You whisper back to him. “Darling, its November, we may be dead, but it will still be cold. You know what I’m coming with you. Grab some blankets” he says as he gets up from the couch. “You don’t have to I will be ok.” You respond. “Too late I’m coming. I want to watch the sunrise too.” He says grabbing some blankets and some pillows. You and Wally leave the library and make your way to the roof. It was still dark out when you got on the roof. Wally arranges the pillows and blankets for you too and you and him sit down, wrap yourselves in more blankets and cuddle up next to him for extra warmth. He’s right bringing blankets I would freeze if he didn’t come with me. Suddenly you can feel your heartbeat beat faster as you are in Wally’s arms and a warm feeling spreads all through your body. You feel calm, at peace. The sun rises and paints the sky in yellow, orange, and pink. You and him don’t say anything just enjoy the peaceful moment watching the sun rise over the horizon. As the sun fully rises you and wally pack up the blankets and pillows and head back downstairs to the library.
“Hey, you two, where were you?” Janet says as she sees the blankets and pillows in your arms. “I woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep so I decided to go on the roof and watch the sunrise. I accidently banged my knee on the coffee table and woke Wally up and he decided to join me. It was so peaceful. Exactly what I needed from all the emotions of yesterday.” You reply. Janet looks puzzled. “Are you ok, what happened yesterday?” she asked. “I told Wally about how I died yesterday.” You respond. “Oh, are you both ok? That must have been a lot” she said as she embraces you in a hug. “It was a lot but I’m glad you told me.” Wally says. “I’m going to go on my morning run if you want to join?” he asked. “No thanks I might just go have a shower.” You say. Wally nods and heads out to the field. You don’t realise you have a big smile on your face as he leaves the room and Janet notices too. “I see that smile Y/N you can’t deny it either. That’s a type of smile you have when you are in love. Oh, my goodness are you in love with Wally?” she says eagerly as this is the biggest thing to happen in forever. “I- I” you stutter not knowing what to say. “Ok, yes I do love him. I have loved him since last year. I was going to tell him at the homecoming game, but we all know how that went.” You say with a sigh of relief. It feels like a weight has been lifted you have finally admitted your feelings aloud even if it wasn’t to Wally. “But you can’t tell him I don’t want to ruin anything between us.” You add. “Eeek this is so exciting tell me everything! When did you first fall in love? How long as it been? Oo who else knows” Janet says rambling on with question after question. “I will tell you if you promise not to say anything.” You say. “Of course, I promise, now spill” she says after finally stops jumping around. Wow this really must be the most exciting thing to happen in a while. “It was our junior year, and we just came back from a family holiday Milwaukee, and I can’t actually pinpoint the exact moment I realized I had feelings for him, but it was on that trip. So, I eventually decided that I don’t want to tell him, he’s my only friend that I had since I always have my head in books always studying and never interacting with others. I didn’t want to lose him I can’t be alone.” You admit to Janet as more relief overwhelms you. “What’s stopping you from telling him now?” Janet asks. Not needing anytime to think of an answer you blurt out “Because whatever this thing is, whatever is trapping us here, I can’t face it alone. Wally has been supportive and so understanding that I can’t risk it admitting that I love him. If he doesn’t feel the same way and he can’t be around me anymore that- “tears well in your eyes “- that would break me.” “It’s ok Y/N come here.” She extends her arms giving you a hug. “Your secret is safe with me. How about you go have your shower and we can head to group when you’re finished.” Janet says. “Thank you for letting me talk, it helped get this off my chest.” You say. You head to the girls change rooms and no one is in there you make sure the door is locked and have a warm shower. You may not actually need a shower since you just reset but it felt good to be under running water to clear your mind. As you finish you dry off and put your clothes back on and head back to where Janet was to walk to group together.
You and Janet are the first ones there, so you decided to help Mr Martin with the chairs. “Um Mr Martin, is it ok if Wally and I talk to you after group today? It’s about our obituaries.” You ask. “Yes, of course I will go fetch the samples from my office.” He says as he leaves the gym. “He has his own office?” you ask Janet confused. “It’s just an old room no one uses that he uses and keeps his belongings. Though I don’t know where it is.” She said. You aren’t sure but you think she may be lying about that last part, the look on her face when you asked was weird, even weird for Janet. Who knows they might have been close since they died not far apart maybe he was her teacher in life? And they have been here just the two of them for a while before Rhonda died. You let it go but also keep a mental note just in case
“Y/N and Wally have decided it was time to write their obituaries today.” Mr Martin said to the group. “Its brutal. When I wrote mine, I cried for a week which is weird to admit.” Tommy said weirdly neither you or Wally knows how he died or even how Rhonda died. “If you don’t mind me asking, what happened to you?” You ask. “It’s ok it was during summer school, I flunked on maths and if I didn’t attend summer school, I would have had to repeat a year and not be with my friends. I was walking to school and just got on school grounds and suddenly collapsed. Then I ended up here. I didn’t find out until my memorial 5 days later I had a sudden brain bleed and died instantly” he said. “Holy shit that’s terrible” Wally says as you gasp in shock. “Yeah, it was scary but not as scary as Rhonda’s she- ““Shush blondie I haven’t told them yet.” Rhonda buts in. Yours and Wally’s eyes lad on hers as she snaps at Tommy. “I was murdered by my guidance counsellor and that’s all I want to say ok newbies.” She said as yours and Wally’s jaws flew open in shock. “Yes, but you have done some healing and that’s what I want from Y/N and Wally. Mr Martin says as he looks at Rhonda as she gives a sarcastic nod. “So, here’s some examples, no rush when you’re ready” he hands you the examples as group ends. You can see Wally is overwhelmed and you take his hand letting him know that you are there for him. “So, that was a lot. Do you want to do this together? It might help.” You said as you can feel his hand grip yours harder. “Actually, yeah that will be ok.” He says as you leave the gym and head to the library.
In the library you find a quiet corner away from the main door so no one will disturb you and luckily it was Sunday so there was no students or teachers as distraction. You look over the examples and even if they were old and no one you knew you felt emotional reading them. You gave Wally a reassuring nod and squeeze his hand as you grab a pencil and paper and begin writing. You finish before Wally; you actually didn’t notice he has barley written anything. “It’s ok Wally, you don’t have to finish today.” You whisper as you can tell he’s emotional. “No, I have to do it now otherwise I will properly never do it.” He responds fighting back tears. You take his hand again and give it another squeeze. “How about I give you some space, if you want you can read mine.” You say. “Um actually yeah but don’t leave the library.” He crocks still fighting back tears refusing to let them fall. “I will go find a book to read and be over there.” You say to him as he turns his attention back to the paper. You get up and leave Wally but not going too far away so you can keep a close eye on him. Writing your obituary was the hardest thing you have done but you know it will be harder on Wally as he doesn’t show his emotions. You find a book and sit at two tables away from him so you can keep an eye on him but also far enough that he can’t see you are watching him.
Two hours have passed, and you notice he’s finished. he breaks down in tears and you rush over to give him a hug. You don’t say anything, you don’t need to as tears stream down your face. You rarely saw him so emotional he always kept to himself which isn’t healthy. You on the other hand was always emotional. During high school and the levels of stress subjects put on you was overwhelming, but Wally knew exactly what to say to help. You hoped that he thought he had to be the strong, stable one between you too, maybe now in this afterlife he can let go and not be afraid to show those emotions. “That was the second hardest thing I’d ever had to do.” He said as he wipes his tears on his grey shirt. “What was the first one?” you ask curious. “Watching you die, and I couldn’t do anything to stop it.” He said softly. You sit back into your chair. “I didn’t even know you actually witnessed it; I was focusing on my mom that I didn’t even know where you came from.” You whisper as reality floods your brain; you had witnessed his death and he had witnessed yours. “Yeah, I guess that’s how you felt when I died but, you didn’t have enough time to react.” He replied. You sigh as you hug him again. “No human ever has had to witness each other’s deaths like we did Walls, how do we even recover from that? When that guy tackled you and you didn’t move it felt like the world stopped like all the air in my lungs was sucked out of me.” “That’s exactly what I felt when I saw you die, my best friend, my person getting flung over a car and I couldn’t even help you. I tried to actually push you out of the way, but nothing happened.” You and him sit in silence as the realization overwhelms you both. “I’m glad I have you to talk all this through I don’t think I could do this without you, as selfish as that sounds.” Wally says as he looks at you through tear-stricken lashes. “I feel the same.” You say as you embrace in each other’s arms. “that’s enough sadness for one day how about we go do something to take our minds of this and we can give the obituaries to Mr Martin tomorrow.” You say wiping tears away from your eyes as well as his. He nods and you and him walk out the library.
You find Mr Martin down the hall and hand him your obituaries in hope to never see them again. “Here’s our obituaries, I kind of understand why you made us write these, so we can move on and not hold on to our deaths.” You say as you and Wally hand them over. “Exactly right, when the others did it, they felt relief and you will do eventually. Now if you excuse me, I have to go” Mr Martin says he rushes of. “Was that just me or was he in a rush?” Wally asked. “No, he was, wonder what that was all about?” you replied. You wondered what he could be in a rush for, I mean he’s dead what could he be needing to do so urgently.

This part is back to the original format (so when you read “you” or “I’ it’s back to your character POV)
Summary:
It’s the day after the Halloween dance and you wake up in the teachers’ lounge, not in your costume with no recollection on how you got there, as you search for answers you confide in Wally about your death.
You wake up on the couch in the teachers’ lounge with no idea how you ended up there. You get up and see teachers around buy no ghosts. You look down and see you are no longer in your costume. What the fuck you thought to yourself. What happened. Eager for answers you get up and roam the halls until you find someone to hopefully refresh your memory. You spot Dawn sitting in her usual spot on the library book return cubby. “Dawn, what happened to me last night do you know?” you asked her frantic. She lets out a laugh. “Oh, you were hyped up on sugar, like I’ve never seen before. You ran around the gym until you crashed on some chairs.” “I did what? How was I so hyped up on sugar? I thought it would reset.” You say confused. “I have no clue, but it was funny. Wally was chasing after you to try to help but you kept out running him. Which is even more funny since he’s a jock.” She replied still laughing. “I- huh I don’t- “you stutter, stunned at her confession of the night before. Just as you were about to go find Wally, Rhonda turns around the corner and imminently laughs at you “Hi their Road Runner, you were hilarious last night.” “So, I have been told I still don’t. understand what the fuck happened. How did I get so hyped up on candy? I thought it resets. And how the hell did I end up in my clothes asleep in the teachers lounge?” you reply all hysterical and confused. “I don’t know about the hyper sugar thing, but I can tell you that after you crashed on the pile of chairs, Wally carried you out of the gym and he obviously changed you.” Rhonda reply’s still giggling about the thought of you last night. You shouldn’t be surprised that it was Wally that took care of you. He was always so kind and looking out for you ever since you were kids, that was one of the reasons why you love him so much. “Thanks. I’m going to go find him and I guess Mr Martin as to why I was so hyper last night.” You say. You leave and walk toward the cafeteria in search for Wally.
Once again you can’t find him. Where the hell are you, Wally? You thought to yourself. You head to your spot up on the school roof and there you spot him as he looks deep in his thoughts. “Hey, you” you say as you approach him as he lifts his head up. “Gosh, I didn’t think you were ever waking up today. Its nearly lunch.” He says. You thought to yourself, huh, he didn’t bring up last night first thing and laugh at you about it. You sat beside him, body facing his. “I wanted to say thank you. Dawn and Rhonda said you helped me last night when I was all hyper.” “Of course, I was going to look after you Darling, it’s what best friends are for. I have never seen you eat so much candy in ages not since you got that diabetes scare when you were 8.” He replies in a soft tone. “Yeah, it was weird I didn’t reset or something I don’t know. But I appreciate it Walls.” You utter. “I might need to go find Mr Martin to get some answers.” ‘Speaking of him” Wally says. “He asked me last night if we have given more thought of us writing our obituaries. He said it will help us heal.” Silence falls between you two until he says “You haven’t even told me about how it happened. I just now that you got hit by a car after seeing me die.” “It’s been hard, trying to come to terms with it, but I’m ready to tell you how it happened.” You say.
You give him every detail, how you felt when you saw his death, how heartbroken you were losing him, being so numb from the pain that even walking was hard. Tears stream down your face and you can see Wally is fighting back his tears but failing miserably. “My mom had to actually drag me away from your body because I refused to leave you.” You say choking on tears. “When she did and we left, she had to use the bathroom and I went to the car, I just put my Walkman on starting to listen to music when a car was speeding in the parking lot and hit me and that was it. Next thing I woke up on the ground, saw a crowd of people around and I can hear my mom screaming holding a body and then I realised it was me. And then I saw you.” You say as you wipe your tears with your sweater. Wally doesn’t know what to say all he does his wraps his arms around you and give you the warmest hug imaginable as you continued to sob into his chest. You and him just sit there, in each other’s arms until you notice the sun has started to set. “You know I actually feel lighter getting that all of my chest. Maybe Mr Martin is right, maybe we should start writing our obituaries?” You ask. “Yeah, if you’re sure Darling we can go find him.” Wally responds. You two get up and head down the stairs, off the roof to talk to him.

Season 2 episode 7 spoilers
I need to talk about this because no one else has. When we see Maddie and Wally have done the deed and we see his butt, the song that’s playing it’s called damn, look at that view as the camera pans over them. And I’m like damn that’s a really fitting song to play right now 😂🤭😏 thank you writers and the creators for that, forever blessed 😂😏
So I’m rewatching school spirits and I’m up to season 2 episode 7 and I didn’t realise the first time when I watched the episode (mostly because I was still reeling from seeing Wally’s butt while I almost chocked on my lunch 😅) how beautiful the scene was between Maddie and Wally. Like the song choices and the setting ugh so beautiful and Wally wanting Maddie to stay 😭😭😭 that time I cried.
I know he’s a fictional character but Wally has really set the bar high when it comes to boyfriend expectations.

Part 10:
This part will be in Wally’s POV (so when you read “you” or “I” its referring to Wally and not your character.)
Summary:
Wally reflects over the past couple of weeks. His death, his new afterlife, his best friend’s death, being stuck in the “in between”, other ghosts, homecoming, his own memorial, and the Halloween dance where he realizes he may have some feelings he didn’t know he had.
The last few weeks have been overwhelming. Not only did I die but also my best friend Y/N on the same day. We have been stuck in school the place I couldn’t wait to leave behind and begin a new chapter, because as soon as I try to leave, some force pushes me back to the place I died. And to find out there are others that have been here for 20 plus years, haunting the halls waiting for their chance to cross over. Then there was this overwhelming fear of being stuck here for entirety. If I didn’t have Y/N I think I would have lost my mind. Then there was the homecoming dance and as well as our joint memorial service and seeing our family and I still haven’t fully expressed how that felt. Seeing my mom and dad and not for them to hear me and hold me. Not only that I had to be there for Y/N. she is in the exact same spot as me. Eager to talk to her family and tell them she is ok. And, not knowing when you will see them again. I had to be strong for her to comfort her and hold on to my emotions because God, she was there for me when I crashed out before it was my turn to be the strong one.
3 weeks go past since our deaths, and I am getting more comfortable with the concept of being here. The other ghosts are great especially Tommy. He has become a quick friend someone who I can talk to since he has been here for a year. Then there were the group sessions run by Mr Martin. He is still wanting us to write our obituaries to help us cope with our death and help us move on and not hold on to the living world as much. The Halloween dance came, and Y/N and I still got to do our group costumes as Rocky Balboa and Adrian Pennino from. Rocky thanks to Janet and Dawn for being making our costumes. They tell you to try them out, so Y/N and I head to the bathrooms. I changed quickly and decided to check on Y/N. I opened the door and there she was, her shirt off with just her bra on. “Wally geez turn around” she says as she tries to find something to cover herself up with. “Sorry I… sorry” I mumble as I close the door. I can feel the heat rise to my cheeks. Am I blushing over seeing Y/N with her bra on? She did have amazing breasts- no. I can’t think like that. She is your best friend; I can’t think like that right? Thoughts fly around as she walks out of the bathroom, and we walk back to the girls to show them costumes. As soon as they see them, I ran out of there. I can’t be next to her not now when I just had that thought. After all these years, is my heart telling me something? No, it can’t be. I don’t want to jeopardize our friendship over feelings I don’t know are genuine. I need some time to think, and I know the perfect place we haven’t used in years so I know that will be the last place for her to look giving me some time to sort out my emotions.
I quickly changed and avoided any interaction with anyone and went to our old spot under some bleachers on the football field. I lay down and try to gather my thoughts. She is your friend; she will forgive you for what you did accidently. She will properly laugh it off because. That’s the type of person she is. Funny, caring, kind beautiful, sex- no I can’t finish that thought. Ugh when did things become so complicated. Maybe I do have some feelings for her I don’t know but I can’t tell her, not yet anyways she still trying to come to terms with her death, heck she hasn’t even talked about her death all I know is that she was hit by a car. I have to be there as a friend, she doesn’t need the confusion of my feelings to confuse her.
It wasn’t long until she found me, of course Darling would find me. I swear she knows me better than I know myself. “There you are, I have been looking for you for ages.” She says as she sits beside me. I don’t know what to say. “Come on Wally talk to me. Its ok I don’t care you saw me in my bra it’s not a big deal to me.” she says. “I’m sorry Darling, I freaked out, I thought you would be mad that I walked in on you. I just don’t want anything to change ever between us. You and me against whatever this thing is, keeping us trapped at school I don’t want anything to change because I accidently walked in on you.” I respond still laying on the ground. “Wally, nothing you say or do will never make me not want to me your friend. If I was mad, I wouldn’t have made that joke. It’s ok.” She spoke. I get up off the floor “You really are one in a million friend you know that right?” “Oh, I know I’m the best, you’re lucky to have me.” She sassed me back as you embraced in a hug. “Come on let’s go get something to eat, we may be dead, but we apparently still need to eat, which I still don’t get but whatever.” I can’t tell her; I need to be her friend she doesn’t need the added pressure of my confession.
Before I knew it, it was time for the dance. Already I can hear students in the gym and the best music blaring from the speakers. I quickly change and I don’t even think about waiting for the others because in the first time since death, I wanted to have fun. Mr Martin was already there and walks over. “Great costume Wally, who are you meant to be?” he asked, “Rocky Balboa from Rocky and Y/N is Adrian.” You respond. “Have you and Y/N thought about writing your obituaries? It will really help you with the healing progress.” He said. He really seems eager for us to write them it hasn’t even been a month since we died, and he wants us to talk about our deaths and move on from it when it is all still raw and emotional. “Not yet but I can talk to Y/N about it.” “Excellent, it will help you both heal, like it did for the others. I can get some samples for you to look over.” He said a little to eagerly. Then Y/N walks in with Rhonda, Tommy, Janet, and Dawn but I can’t help but look at her. Wait no stop those thoughts Wally. “Finally, you guys are here. It’s been me and Mr Martin for what feels like ages, and he’s just been staring at me.” I shout to try to talk over the music and the others. Y/N takes my hand and leads me to the dance floor with the others in tow. And other good thing about being dead is that we can eat all the candy we want because our stomachs just reset which is still so weird.
As the night continues Mr Martin announces that he has finished tallying the votes for best costume, which should obviously go to Y/N. she looks so – no. not finishing that thought. “I have finished going over the votes for best costume. The winner gets to pick the movie for the next movie night. And the winner is Wally for dressing as Rocky Balboa.” Mr Martin announces to the group. Oh shit, I won. Excitement fills my body. It was just a silly costume contest, but I won. And for the first time since my death, I felt happy.

Part 9:
Summary: You and Wally talk about the bathroom incident and get ready for the Halloween dance while you notice something going on between Rhonda and Tommy.
You don’t know how long you have searched the halls for Wally after he abruptly left when you joked about him walking in on you changing. The only place you haven’t searched was yours and his spot under the bleachers. You head outside towards the bleachers when you spot Rhonda kicking the vending machine. “The stupid thing didn’t drop the soda; this one is the only decent one around.” She yells still kicking the machine. You walk over to her and use your elbow and wacked it and the soda fell. “Wally found out a spot that if you hit it, the soda will fall.” “Thank you. I saw Wally before he looked distant, is everything ok?” Rhonda asks with concern. “I think he’s ok. Dawn and Janet made us Halloween costumes and we were trying them out when he walked in and saw me still changing with only my bra on.” You say “Wait aren’t you guys best friends; you haven’t walked in on each other before?” Rhonda responds with a sassy tone. “Nope that was the first. I have been looking for him for ages to talk about it.” “Well good luck with that I haven’t seen him in a while.” Rhonda says as she walks away.
Now back on track you head under the bleachers and there he was laying on his back looking up at the rows of bleachers from above. “There you are, I have been looking for you for ages.” You say as you sit beside him. Wally doesn’t say anything. “Come on Wally talk to me. Its ok I don’t care you saw me in my bra it’s not a big deal to me.” You say eager for him to say something. “I’m sorry Darling, I freaked out, I thought you would be mad that I walked in on you. I just don’t want anything to change ever between us. You and me against whatever this thing is, keeping us trapped at school I don’t want anything to change because I accidently walked in on you.” He finally responds still laying on the ground. “Wally, nothing you say or do will never make me not want to me your friend. If I was mad, I wouldn’t have made that joke. It’s ok.” You said. He gets up off the floor “You really are one in a million friend you know that right?” “Oh, I know I’m the best, you’re lucky to have me.” You sassed him back as you embraced in a hug. “Come on let’s go get something to eat, we may be dead, but we apparently still need to eat, which I still don’t get but whatever.”
The next day was the big dance. Teachers and students were busy decorating the gym with spiders, pumpkins, skeletons, ghosts (rude) and everything remotely spooky. You Wally, Janet, Rhonda, and Tommy were hanging out discussing who in the living world will have the best costumes. “How many girls do you reckon will dress up as Alex Owens from Flashdance? After that movie came out it was all the girls could talk about for weeks?” you ask to the group. “Oh yeah I remember that. It was all the living girls would talk about.” Tommy added. “It was a good movie. Wasn’t it Wally?” you asked as you nudged his shoulder. “I only saw it because I made you watch Strocker Ace. I only agreed because it was a bad movie. Wally said. “Shush you loved it. Its ok you don’t want to admit liking it, but I know you did. You wouldn’t stop doing the dance on the way back to your truck.” You giggled as you mimicked Wally doing the dance. “Do the dance right now Moose, I have got to see that!” Rhonda chimed in laughing. “Ha ha very funny.” Wally says as he rolls his eyes and gives you a look saying “That was meant to stay between us Y/N” “oops” you laugh as well as the others.
Later it was time to get ready. The gym was already getting full of students and music blaring through the speakers. You get dressed this time making sure that the bathroom door was locked, you changed into your costume that Janet and Dawn made. As you exit the bathroom you spot Rhonda and Tommy and if you’re not mistaken, they seem close. “Wow you guys look great! Who are you dressed as?” You ask them. Clearly frazzled that you were their Tommy says, “Oh hey didn’t see you there.” As he looks over to you blushing a bit. Whatever is going on between those two must be recent, you thought to yourself. “I’m Michael Carrington from Grease 2 and- ““I’m Patsy from class of 1984.” Rhonda butts in also looking flustered and she is also blushing. Just as you were about to ask them about it, Dawn and Janet exit the bathroom. “Dawn, I love your Annie costume and Janet your scientist costume looks great.” “Thank you we have been working on these all day.” Janet responds not noticing the weird tension between Tommy and Rhonda.
You all walk into the dance and of course Wally is already there dancing along to the music. “Finally, you guys are here. It’s been me and Mr Martin for what feels like ages, and he’s just been staring at me.” Wally shouts to try to talk over the music. As the others laugh you notice Janet ging a weird look to Mr Martin. As the night continues, You, Wally, and the others all dance and eat as so much candy. The great thing about being dead, you never get full because it just resets. Something you are still trying to get used too. Meanwhile everyone has been looking around at the living students and trying to figure out who they are meant to be dressed as. “Told you there will be a lot of girls dressed as Alex from Flashdance” you say cheerfully. As you guessed before around 80% of the girls are in Flashdance costumes. “I have finished going over the votes for best costume. The winner gets to pick the movie for the next movie night. And the winner is Wally for dressing as Rocky Balboa.” Mr Martin announces to the group. And for the first time since your death, Wally is happy and excited even if it was just a silly costume contest, he was happy. And seeing him so happy made you feel butterflies swarm around in your stomach. It was in that moment you realised your feelings for Wally were stronger than ever. You thought to yourself maybe you can tell him how you feel after all.

Part 8:
Summary: It’s been three weeks since your death as Halloween rolls around, the ghosts are busy planning for the big Halloween school dance and Wally walks in on you…
It’s been 3 weeks since you and Wally have been dead, and it also happens to be Halloween tomorrow. Normally you and Wally would do movie characters, we picked it out already and anything. You and him were meant to dress up as Rocky Balboa and Adrian Pennino from one of Wally’s favourite movies, Rocky. Ever since you were kids, your moms would dress you in couple’s costumes because they thought it was cute and it became a tradition for us every Halloween. And of course, you will get to see everyone else have fun at the Halloween dance while you will most likely be eating all the Halloween candy waiting for the night to be over. over the last couple of weeks, the other ghosts have been really nice to you and Wally even Rhonda was making more of an effort to be your friend though most of the time you spent in the library since you were dead you now have an excuse to read every single book.
Wally walks into the library, your nose so buried in your book that you didn’t even notice him walk in. “I thought I would find you in here, come on its time for group. You had been so focuses on your book you didn’t realise how late it had gotten. “Fuck I’m sorry I was really into this book. Let’s go don’t want Rhonda to find a reason not to like us because we are late.” You say all frazzled. You place the book down and You and Wally head to the gym. You both sit down as Mr Martin has already started. “Great to see you two have finally joined us. We are discussing the Halloween dance and who we should go as.” Janet chimes in. “I’m dressing up as Rosalind Franklin a British chemist.” You nod at her like you know who she’s talking about but, you have no clue who she was. As the others share their ideas Mr. Martin looks at you and Wally. “This will be your first of many afterlife Halloween parties, what do you two normally do for Halloween?” he asks. “When we were younger our moms would dress us in matching character costumes like Mickey and Minnie Mouse because they thought it was cute but Y/N and I still- used to carry on the tradition. We were going to be Rocky Balboa and Adrian Pennino from Rocky.” Wally said with a little emotion in his tone realising that the two of you won’t be able to carry on with tradition. “That’s a great movie, I loved Rocky.” Tommy chimed in. “Maybe Janet and Dawn could help you make some costumes?” he added. “Really? You guys will help? Thank you.” Now you respond a bit more excited, maybe the Halloween dance wont suck after all.
As group ends, You and Wally meet Janet and Dawn in the home economics room and with your help and what supplies you found they made pretty accurate costumes. “Wow you guys these look great!” you say as Dawn finishes up on your top. “Go try it on see how it fits.” Janet says excitedly. You and Wally leave to head to the bathrooms to change. Wally finished putting on his costume and came to check in on you when he walks in on you changing. “Wally geez turn around” you say as you try to find something to cover yourself since all you had on was your bra. “Sorry I... sorry” he quickly stumbles out of the bathroom. You quickly finish putting your costume on and meet Wally out in the hall. “Well, it was only time that one of us would walk in when we are changing.” You giggle as you see Wally’s cheeks turn pink. “We should go back and let the girls see our costume’s” He mumbles avoiding the conversation. Did he just blush? You wonder what it could mean. You and Wally walk back into the home economics room and Janet says “Those costumes turned out great. You two might even win the costume challenge.” “Wait you guys do a costume challenge too?” Wally says. “Yep, whoever has the best costume gets to pick the next movie for movie night.” Dawn chimes in also giggling with pins in her mouth which is not at all disturbing. “Cool I’m going to change.” Wally says and before any of you can respond he’s already left. “What was that about?” Janet says with concern. “I think he’s a bit freaked out because he walked in on me when I was changing, and he saw me in my bra.” You respond back. Both Janet and Dawn look at each other sensing something going on with you and him and before they can respond, you interrupt them “Thanks again girls I owe you, see you later.” And you leave quickly not wanting for them to make any more comment about the situation. You changed back into your clothes and went to try to find Wally.

Part 7
Wally Clark x fem reader Y/N
Summary: It’s the day of yours and Wally’s joint memorial service at school and you see your family for what maybe the last time.
The next few days go in a blur. Mr. Martin is trying to get you to open up about yourself, to share things about yourself and how you are coping. You’re not really. After the dance when the principal mentioned a memorial reality hit like a train. I’m dead. It’s not a dream I’m dead and so is Wally. You are not the only one struggling to talk about yourself in group, Wally is too. He’s shared with you some things, but you can tell he’s holding back maybe the same reason why I am too.
Wednesday arrives it’s the day of your joint memorial service. Teachers and students have been all over the gym setting y up chairs and bringing in flowers. And before you know it, it’s time to start. The other ghosts are already sitting down with you and Wally. The doors open and students and staff pile into the room and then you notice your parents and your sister Mary. They look like they haven’t slept at all, even from a distance you can tell. Mary is quiet which is not like her she’s normally the loud 14-year-old girl who loved horses and music you’ve never seen her sad until now. You don’t even realise but you have been crying ever since your family walked into the gym. Wally sitting beside you puts him arm around you to comfort you. Wally’s parents are next to arrive, and they look just as devastated as your parents. The gym was filled with all your favourite things. Your favourite flowers, books you love, things with your favourite colour and endless photos of you and Wally around. There were footballs and other sports Wally loves, posters of his favourite music groups. All the special things of you and his life around the gym.
The room goes quiet as Mr Smith heads to the stage. “Good morning, everyone, today is going to be tough as we mourn and celebrate the lives of Y/N and Wally Clark. If you could turn your attention to the projection screen, we have made a photo montage of them.” Photos of you and Wally are shared on the screen along with music. Photos of when you two were young all the way up until your last photo together which happened to be 2 days before your deaths. Tears fill your eyes as you run out the room not being able to handle it. it’s your own memorial, you’re not meant to see it but because you are stuck in this ‘in between’ you must witness not only your own pain, but also your family’s and even Wally’s. You leave tears still streaming down your face and air struggling to get to your lungs you just walk as for as your legs will take you before you can’t walk anymore and you drop to the floor, put your head between your hands and bring your knees close to your chest as you sob.
“Hey Darling.” Wally says as he finds you. He crouches down next to you and puts his arm around you. “Well, I guess it’s my turn to be the mess and be embarrassing. I knew it was going to be hard but that-“ you can’t even finish what you are saying as you choke on your words. You feel a lump at the back on your throat. “It’s ok darling, we can get through this. No one besides the other ghosts the sat through their own memorial before” He whispers. Wally has always called you Darling for as long as you remember but now something makes you feel different. Not in a bad way but maybe in a good way. Before you know it, your memorial is over, and you can see your family in the hall as they make their way to the parking lot. This may be the last time you see your family that is until Mary starts high school, so you follow them, just to be near them. You try to speak to talk to them to let them know you are ok… well okish but they can’t hear you. They get to their car and leave. Overwhelmed with emotions you drop to your knees sobbing uncontrollably. Maybe it was time to try to share and talk about my emotions with group.
You take minute to stop crying, you and Wally head back inside. “Wally is it ok if I just have some alone time?” you ask as you make your way down to the teachers’ lounge seemingly where all the other ghosts like to hang out. “I don’t like the idea of you being by yourself when you have been in such a state. He replies. “I will be ok, nothing bad is going to happen, I’m already dead. You silently laugh. “At least tell me where you will be so if I need to, I can check on you. Wally responds. You can tell he’s emotional too. “I’ll be in our spot on the roof, I will be ok I just need a minute to myself. You know how I get when I get overwhelmed. Wally nods as he walks to the teachers’ lounge, and you head in the opposite direction. You get to the roof, and you expect yourself to burst into more tears but to your surprise you don’t. you just sit there quietly watch the world go by, something you need to get used to since you don’t know how long you will be trapped here.

Summary:
It’s time for the homecoming dance and you meet a new ghost named Tommy. And reality of your death hits you both as the school is organizing a memorial.
You and Wally reach the teachers’ lounge and you spot Janet, Rhonda and the other ghost who hasn’t said anything except stare at you which you find unsettling, but it could be just his way to cope with new ghosts. “Hi, uh we have some more questions, and we are hoping you can help us?” You ask the group. Janet gets up from her seat “I can try to help but like Mr Martin said we don’t know what causes us to be in this “In between” phase we just are.” She adds. “The more you dwell on your past and how you are stuck here the harder it will be on you. We want to figure our way out of here, to cross over but a big part of that is letting go of your past and embrace that you are here.” Not knowing how to respond to that You and Wally just stare blankly at her and each other. “Right so we just have to accept we are stuck here for how knows how long so we can eventually figure out how to cross over?” Wally says. The other ghost who has blonde hair and a tan who honestly looks like a model straight out of a magazine, is still staring blankly. “Ok blondie, you are starting to creep me out. Why are you just staring?” You ask him. He finally responds. “Sorry, this is all new to me too. I died not that long ago. I was a Junior when you were freshman you properly don’t remember. I’m Thomas but you can call me Tommy.”
You and Wally continue to ask questions to the others until you can hear loud music. The dance has started. “Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I wanted to check out the dance and get some delicious punch they have every year.” Janet says as she gets up and starts to walk to the door. “Y/N and Wally if you want to join, go to the theatre there’s a room under the stage they have a bunch of old clothes if you want to dress up. Tommy and Rhonda follow seemingly also going to the dance. “Well, what do you say Y/N you want to go to the dance with me?” Wally asks as it’s just the two of you left in the room. “We’ve got nothing else to do so why not.” You respond. “But I want to look cute if I’m going.” “They can’t see- you know what never mind let’s go.”
You and Wally leave and walk to the theatre and find the hatch that leads to the room under the stage. Dozens of kids from your year start to pile through the doors all dressed up. You get to the drama room and find a bunch of clothes to wear. You spot a blue frilly dress your size and shove it on as Wally finds an old suit that looks like it’s been here since Janet was here. You exit the room and head to the gym. Entering the gym, you immediately see a photo of You and Wally together with a banner underneath that reads “Gone too soon” Seeing that you and Wally both look at each other as the situation of it all sinks in. you and him are well and truly dead.
“Ugh, I can’t believe the hot jock died. I was going to ask him out.” Amy said to her friends as they enter the gym and see the photo of You and Wally. “That nerdy friend of his had to die the same day as him to steal his moment because those two have to share everything together.” Karen one of Amy’s bitch pack laughs as they enter the dance. “Ignore them, come on lets at least try to have some fun.” Wally says trying to lighten your mood seeing how hurt you were at their comments. You take his hand and walk further in the gym. Wally drags you on the dance floor. You were hesitant at first but then he reminds you they can’t see you. So, you do and dance like literary no one was watching. Just as the dance is about to end, Principal Smith takes the stage. “Can I have everyone’s attention? I want to say that for those who were close to Wally, and Y/N I know it must be hard to be here. This dance is our way to honour both which is why they are both this year’s Homecoming King and Queen.” You both take the stage as if they can see you and you and Wally place the crowns on your heads. Principal Smith gets a photo of you and Wally up on the stage and places the crowns on top of the photo. “Don’t forget students that the school will be closed until Wednesday, and we will be having a memorial service for both of them and as far as I know their parents haven’t set a date for their funerals.” Mr Smith said as the dance dies down and reality hits you. Your family. They must be devastated. You just want to see them, but you can’t. Sadness washes over you as Wally turns and gives you a hug for support. You think to yourself this may be greedy, but you are glad you are here with Wally. Because you can’t imagine doing this alone.

Summary:
You and Wally experience your first group with the other ghosts and get some answers to some questions you have until you are interrupted by people setting up for the homecoming dance.
“Ah you found us. Welcome to the Split River High afterlife support group. Have a seat and let’s get started.” Mr Martin said eagerly. You and Wally sit in the middle of the circle, Rhonda on one side, Janet the next side. “Ok so who would like to start- “Yeah I do” Wally says interrupting Mr Martin. “So, we are all dead, but we can still do things that we used to be able to do but people can’t see or hear us, and we can’t leave this place?”
“Yes. We don’t exactly know why we are stuck here let’s just call it the “in between” but we are. I have been here for 25 years and still haven’t worked it out I’m afraid.” Mr Martin explains as you and Wally sit and stare blankly at him neither of you not knowing how to respond to that. You are about to ask another question when Janet chimes in “I’ve been here for 23 years, I fell down a flight of stairs and broke my neck. Mr Martin was already here.” Stunned is all you can think about. These people or should I say ghosts have been trapped in this school for 25 years not knowing why you can’t leave is crazy. “How did you die?” Rhonda asks looking directly at you. Before you can say anything another ghosts’ chimes in. “are you guys dating? You have the same jacket on and died the same day makes sense if you were together when you died.” The ghost next to Janet not revealing his name but you could tell he died during the drug phase of the 70s just by looking at him.
“Actually, Wally and I are best friends. Our moms are also best friends, and we were born five days apart. Wally gave me his old varsity jacket when the team upgraded in sophomore year, and I wear it to all of his games.” You say trying not to share too much about you and Wally’s friendship. “As for how we died, Wally got tackled really badly by the other team and his neck snapped and I got hit by a car that was speeding in the parking lot.” You share with the group. “Wait that’s how it happened? It happened so fast I didn’t even feel it. That must have been scary to watch.” Wally says to you softly trying not to show his emotions to the group. Just as you were about to respond you are interrupted again but this time not from another ghost it was a bunch of people entering the gym getting decorations hung and placed around. “What is happening?” you ask turning around and seeing more people file into the gym. “It was your homecoming yesterday, right? Well today is the dance.” Janet answers. “No fucking way they are still having the dance after we died. Did we mean nothing to people at this school?” Wally yells before walking off and starts yelling at everyone in the gym. “I’ll talk to him and try to get him to come- ““No need Y/N group will finish early; they might not be able to see us, but they will get in our way.” Mr Martin says as he interrupts you.
Wally is pissed. He’s still trying to get someone, anyone’s attention but nothing. “Wally, hey its ok let’s go talk somewhere.” You say ever so gently trying not to anger him anymore. Without saying another word, you see tears stream down his face as you embrace in a hug. You and Wally walk down the halls away from the others to talk. “It might have been too late to cancel the dance, Wally. It cost a lot of money for the school, and it could have been just easier to continue on.” You say to Wally as he has finally calmed down. “Yeah, I guess so. Man, I’ve been such an emotion wreak lately, haven’t I? Talk about embarrassing.” Wally admits looking away. “Hey, look at me Wally.” You say touching his chin to lift his gaze from of the floor and on to you. “Don’t be sorry. We are going through a lot right now it’s understandable you will be emotional. I am too but we are not in this alone. We have the others who will help us. To answer the questions, we have. You aren’t alone Wally. You will never be.” You say as you embrace in a tight hug. As you do you feel the butterflies again in your stomach that are only there when he embraces you. This crush is going to get more complicated now, but you still can’t tell him yet. You don’t want to risk your friendship and he needs a friend now more than a new relationship. Besides you wonder, he might not love me back in that way. “You really know what to say when I’m like this don’t you Y/N I love you. What did I deserve to have a best friend like you?” He responds after you release from your hug. “I love you too Wally. I’m lucky to call you my best friend. Now come on let’s go find one of the other ghosts and we can ask as many questions you have.” You say as you take Wally’s hand and walk down the hall into the teachers’ lounge since that’s where you figured they like to hang out.

Summary:
Its your first full day in the spirit world or as Mr Martin calls it, the “in between” and Wally isn’t coping with your new life. And you attend your first Split River High afterlife support group wanting answers to the endless questions you have.
The sun beamed through the library waking you up even though you didn’t sleep much as the events of yesterday replayed in your mind over and over again. You sit up and notice Wally wasn’t in the library. Concern washes over you not knowing where he went. You get up and do a quick scan of the library making sure he really wasn’t in the library. You exit and you can hear voices. Other ghosts.? You noticed walking passed the art room was a guy sitting at the pottery wheel never looking up once. “He’s a looper. Stuck in the same routine you did the day he died.” Rhonda said behind you causing you to jump. “Could you not do that? You scared me half to death.” You puff holding on to your chest. “You are already dead. Do I have to explain myself to you again? I thought you were the smart one.” Rhonda sasses back as she once again has a lollipop with her. “What’s a looper? Wait never mind have you seen Wally?” you say. “The meathead jock that died the same time as you? Yeah, I saw him on the field. He clearly not understanding he can’t leave this place.” Rhonda responds. Before you can say anything, she left. Clearly, she’s going to be a handful.
Heading towards the field once more you see Wally scream as he’s clearly frustrated you see him run to leave and then just before your eyes crash right back on the field where he died. You walk over to him calmy and he lays on the ground still full of anger. You lay down next to him to try to calm him down. “Wally, I know this sucks but it’s going to be ok.” You say softly. He doesn’t respond just yells and then cries. Something you’ve only seen a handful of times. He was the type of guy not to share his emotions. “Shush its ok I’ve got you.” You say as you roll over to give him a hug. You and him just lay there not saying a word as emotions build up. You are patient and wait for him to be ready to talk about it. “I can’t believe this Y/N.” he finally speaks after laying there sobbing in your arms. “I know. We can get through this it will be ok.” You say back not actually believing in your own words. You have been this close to Wally before but this time it feels different. Butterflies swirl around on your stomach as you hold him. “Whatever this is Wally, we can figure it out together like we always do.” “Yeah, I guess you’re right. Thanks for always calming me down and always saying the right things, you are a great friend.” Wally says softly. There’s that word friend again I know that’s what you and him where, but you can’t help but feel a pang in your heart. Maybe he truly only sees you as a friend and nothing more. You and Wally remain on the grass of the field still holding each other not wanting to let go anytime soon. Well, that was true until you feel rain droplets fall on your soft skin. You both get up and make a run for it. You look at wally and he think it too. If you are well and truly dead, how can we feel things like rain? still hold objects like we did before? How are we hungry and tired too? None of it makes sense. But you know who the answers might have you are looking for. Mr Martin. You and Wally don’t say anything as you walk back to school. Both of you confused and wanting no needing answers. “The only one that can give us answers is that Mr Martin guy. He said something last night about group. Maybe we go there and try to figure out what the hell is going on.” You say as you notice that you and Wally are suddenly dry. You and Wally continue to walk around not seeing anyone you decide to go to the gym since you can’t think of anywhere else there would be a ghost meeting. And as soon as Wally opens the doors to the gym in the corner you see Mr Martin, Janet, Rhonda, and a bunch of other ghosts you haven’t seen before all sitting in a cir

Summary:
After you witness Wally’s death you are confused, overwhelmed, and lost. And then tragedy strikes again. Then everything in your life as well as Wally’s changes and you met some new faces…
Part 3:
As you leave the field everything around you is a blur still in shock. Your mind is going a million miles a minute trying to come to terms of what just happened. You just want to go home and rot away listening to yours and Wally’s favourite song on your Walkman.
“Sweetie, could you go start the car? I need to head to the bathroom before we go home.” Mom says ever so softly knowing how fragile you are. Without saying anything you nod and grab mom’s keys, put on your Walkman and walk to the car park. You begin walking to the car music blaring through your headphones as you look down to adjust your Walkman in your pocket. Unbeknownst to you a car is speeding in the car park. A senior showing of his new car speeds in the parking lot and then BANG instantly collecting you. You get fling over the car and land directly on your head.
You slowly open your eyes and things are all a blur. All you see is the dark night sky and red and blue lights. You slowly get up; you see a big crowd in the parking lot all huddled in the middle and looking down at the ground almost as if they were looking for something.
“Y/N? Y/N” you hear your name being called in the distance. For a moment you thought it was Wally. You get up and walk over to the crowd of people and you try to make your way through. You squeeze past people, but they pretend you’re not even there. You make your way to the centre and see your mom screaming and crying and she’s holding something. You look closer and realise it you. Confusion instantly washes over you. How are you on the floor there when you were standing right here. “Mom, Mom I’m right here can’t you see me?” you say frantically. All the sudden the voice you heard before is right behind you. It was Wally. “Wally, what the fuck I just saw you die, how are you here?” “I don’t know. All I know is that I was playing the game then I woke up and I saw you and everyone over me in a circle. Then I saw 3 other people that I have never seen before talk to me and said I was dead.” Wally said still confused and worried. “Wait if your dead and my body’s over there and I’m here does that make me- “
“A ghost like me. Yeah.” Wally said as he cut you off. The world around you becomes a haze as you revel with the news that you are dead. That you now are a ghost and so is Wally and a bunch of other ghosts? “Huh what? I was just there listening to our song how could I be dead?” Another man with two girls walk to you and he extends his arms. “I know you two must have a lot of questions, come with us and we will talk about it.” The man in the suit that looked something your Uncle Henry would wear. “I know you guys must be scared; I was too when I first found out I died. Trust me it gets better.” The girl with red hair said as the other girl next to her with the paper boy hat didn’t say a word as she directs you and Wally back into the school.
You and Wally and the others walk into school as the man introduces himself. “Hello, Mr Martin. I like to formally welcome you both to your new life or should I say afterlife” Both stunned to what Mr Martin just said. “Hi, I’m Janet and this is Rhonda.” The girl with the red hair says as she holds her hand out to shake which both you and Wally do. “I suppose we don’t need to give you a tour since you went to this school” Mr Martin laughs clearly trying to break the silence. Neither you nor Wally laugh.
“Um yeah hi, nice to meet you all but what are we doing here? If we are dead, aren’t we I, don’t I know supposed to be you know in heaven?” You snap back at Mr Martin as Wally just stands there quietly. “That’s the thing with this school we have no idea why we are trapped here, we just are. If you try to leave the school grounds you get, put back to where you died.” Mr Martin explained ignoring your snappiness. “No, that ridiculous what do you mean we are stuck here?” Wally expressed as he pushes his hair back with one hand and the other on his hip. “It means quarterback if you try to leave school some force, we don’t know about pushes you back to the place you died” Rhonda snarled already bored of the conversation. She walks off down the hall towards the teachers’ lounge. “Ignore her, she gets a bit cranky when she has to explain what has happened to us to new people.” Janet says as she turns to you. “Wait others? There’s more ghosts?” you express. “Yeah, I know it’s a lot, but you will be ok.” Janet says as she starts to walk down the all the same direction Rhonda went.
You and Wally are confused as you look at each other in shock. This is really happening, you and he are dead, there are other ghosts that haunt your school, and you can’t leave the school grounds because some force will send you back to the spot you died. “Well, I’ll let you get settled, its already late and I have to prepare for our group session tomorrow” Mr Martin says and walks away before either of you could respond.
“This is bullshit, they can’t tell us what to do. I’m leaving this place. Are you with me?” Wally raises is voice with furry. “Wally, I think they were telling the truth that we can’t leave.” You respond calmly not wanting to start a fight between you too. “We need to figure that out ourselves. I don’t trust them, not just yet. Please Y/N, come with me.” He looks at you eager for you to respond. You not knowing what to do you agree with him. He’s right who’s to say they are telling the truth about all of this. You had to make sure of it yourselves. “Ok Wally, I’m with you. But maybe you should change into something else besides your football uniform” “I think I have some sweats and my varsity jacket in the boy’s locker room.” Wally says and you and he start walking in the direction of the boys’ lockers. You wait outside and wait for him to change. Once he’s finished you both decide to head to the main entrance of the school and try to leave whatever nightmare you both woke up in., he takes your hand as you reach the end of the school property. You both at the same time walk across and… bam you are by yourself starting up at the sky in the school parking lot. Great just great you thought they were telling the truth that means Wally is on the football field you get up and run towards the field and you see Wally was already running towards you. “Well, I guess they were right, we can’t leave. This is so fucked” Wally expressed as you finally met. “It’s ok Wally, I’m scared too but I think we have to learn to trust those guys. By the way they are dressed they look like they have been here for a while.” You respond back and worry washes over you still in shock and in disbelief that this is happening. “Ok your right. Let’s go back inside and find somewhere to rest because I sure as hell I’ve got a lot of questions for them.” Wally says in a calmer tone then before.
You both head back inside and then Wally remembers something. “Hey Y/N, you said before the homecoming game you wanted to tell me something, what was it?” “Oh, umm it doesn’t matter I was just going to ask if you wanted to go to the diner after the game for some ice-cream before we went back to your place.” You respond back. That was the quickest you’ve ever come up with a lie before because now is not the right time to tell him your feelings when you both are so vulnerable right now. He nods not saying anything as you continue to walk around the school trying to find somewhere to rest… wait do we even need to rest if we are dead? You keep that thought to yourself as you and wally head to the library remembering there’s couches there.

Summary:
It was finally the big homecoming game, and you were about to tell your best friend that you are in love that is until tragedy strikes leaving you heartbroken
Part 2:
It was finally Saturday which means tonight’s the homecoming game and the day you tell wally you are in love with him. The day went by like a blur and you were getting ready for the big game but not before a phone call from Wally.
“Hey, Y/N you ready for the best homecoming game of your life!” Wally expressed basically screaming through the phone. “Geez Wally that was loud, and yeah it’s going to be a great game” you said shyly hoping Wally wouldn’t notice that your voice is begging to shake. “Sorry Darling, I just hope I will do my mom proud” he expressed as his tone changed. “Of course, she will be Wally. After the game I want to talk to you I have something kind of important I want to talk about” You replied. “Yeah, sure thing, meet in your spot?” Wally said a little curious to what you want to talk about. “Sure, Wally, I’ll see you there.” You responded as you hang up to phone stomach full of butterflies so nervous but knew you were ready to admit your feelings to him. You get dressed in black jeans, a blue sweater and one of Wally’s old lettermen jackets he gave to you and went downstairs to meet your mom and Sister to leave for the game.
You arrive at school and head to the football field and get your seats. You see Wally on the filed stretching, and you lock eyes. You feel the butterflies in your stomach ease as soon as you see him. You held up a thumbs up and mouth ‘You got this” and just like that the game starts. Yelling and screams surround you normally making you uncomfortable but you didn’t care you were there for Wally and that’s all that matters.
The first half of the game went quickly and its already half time the Devils are winning, and you can’t help but feel this overwhelming sense of happiness as you see Wally score a touchdown. The crowd is full loud and screaming with joy of such a great game, and you can’t help but to also join in too -something you never do but this time felt different-. As the cheerleaders finish their cheers the players head back on to the field.
“Clark has the ball and he’s running fast looks like he’s wanting to get his first touchdown of the game. He’s almost there and BAM down goes Clark, that tackle looked bad” The game announcer yells over the PA system as the crowd goes quiet. You start to immediately feel dread wash over you and you feel numb. “This isn’t looking good for Clark he’s not moving” The announcer continues but all you feel is worry as his team and coach surround him and you see the coach hold up the time out signal. More worry washes over you. You jump out of your seat and bolt onto the field not caring if you will get yelled at. You run like you’ve never run before until you reach him lying on the ground lifeless. “We need a medic stat” Coach yelled as the team all gasp and are in shock. You get on the ground, hands on his chest wanting to feel he’s breath. Nothing. “Wally, Wally can you hear me? I need you to wake up please wake up” You cry as tears stream down your face struggling to breath. You feel the medic lift you up to check on him. The medic looks him over and says “I’m sorry but he’s gone. His neck is snapped it would have been instant” Numb all you feel is numb as you watch Wally, your best friend maybe even the love of your life on the floor dead. You fall next to him again and scream out in pain. Sobbing and barely even breathing properly “I… I was going to tell him. Why did this have to happen why” You can’t keep it together his team and more people crowd around you. You feel your mom hug you from behind. “Oh, my sweetheart I’m so sorry.” You turn and give her a full hug and you look around wondering where his mom is. “Where is Wally’s mom?” you say confused as you thought she would be with you crying over him. “She’s over there talking to the medics and waiting for the cornier to come.” Mom replies softly. You look over and you see his mom in tears as she talks to the medics. Mom though hesitant tries to get you off the field “No mom, I don’t want to leave him please, let me stay with him until the cornier gets here.” You tremble as you take his hand still warm. Without saying anther word your mom gets up and leaves you there with him. You don’t even notice that the team is gone already. The game is over, and everyone is already making their way home. Still in shock over what happen in your head you tell yourself. “I can’t believe I never told you how I felt, I should have a lot sooner. The pain of losing you is consuming me. I don’t know how I will carry on my life without you by my side. I love you, Wally Clark.” More tears stream down your face and don’t even notice the cornier has arrived to take Wally. “Goodbye Wally” you say as you choke on your words never thought would have to those words ever. You walk to your mom still crying and numb.

Story Summary:
You and Wally, best friends since birth, you decide to confess your love at the 1983's homecoming game. After a tragic accident, you remain with Wally and other ghosts for eternity. 40 years later, you decide it’s time to finally admit your feelings until someone else asks him out.
Part 1 Summary:
You and Wally have been best friends since birth thanks to your moms also being best friends. You and Wally are experiencing senor year together talking about your future at collage and talking about the big upcoming homecoming game. After keeping a secret from him since Junior year, you decide to tell him after the game.
Part 1:
You and Wally have been best friends since birth. His mom and my mom are best friends, and we are even born 5 days apart. Wally had always been there for you even though he was sometimes annoying, but you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Fast forward a couple of years and we are in our senior year of High school and absolutely dreading collage. Not that you weren’t a good student or anything you were always top of the class. You knew what you wanted to do and that was to become the next best-selling Author. You had a passion for literature and been dreaming of becoming the next Angela Carter. You just dread change always have and always will. Wally on the other hand already had a scholarship for football his mom is so proud, but you could tell deep down that he was holding something back. Something he hasn’t even admitted to himself.
You were sitting on the bleachers reading your book and watching Wally and the football team practice for the big homecoming game on Saturday.
“Y/N did you see what I just did? That was gnarly!” Wally yelled as he came running over to you, all sweaty and gorgeous. Unbeknownst to Wally you have had feelings for him since Junior year of school, but you were too scared to tell him. “No Wally, sorry I was reading, but I’m sure it was good” you said as butterflies exploded in your stomach. You have no idea how you’ve kept yourself together around him for so long.
Wally sat in front of you in the bleachers to have a drink from your water bottle because you always carry one knowing he always forgets his. “Good? Y/N that was the best play the coach as seen! You have to take a break from reading and watch me, please?” He gave you that look, the same look that he’s always used to get you to do whatever he wants. “Ok fine. I can’t stay much longer it’s getting late; you know how my parents get when I’m late for dinner” you say putting your book in your bag. “CLARK! Get your butt back on the field” The football coach yelled at Wally landing all eyes on you. “I’ll see you later, ok” Wally said as he got back onto the field.
You sit back and begin reading again until you are distracted once again. “He’s never going to love you Y/N. The quarterback and a nerd that’s tragic. He will eventually drop you and want to hang out with me instead” Amy snares as her and her bitchy friends laugh clearly trying to hurt your feelings. “You know what Amy; I don’t need him to love me like that I know he does.” You reply back confidently. “Besides Wally doesn’t like girls with a big ego like yours.” As you get up to walk away you can hear Amy and her friends gasp at you and you can’t help but to let out a little giggle.
As you leave the bleachers you can see Wally at a distance and hold up your hand into a phone near your ear singling you will call him later. You see him nod and walk to your car. As soon as you get home you are interrupted by your little sister, Mary. “Did you finally tell Wally you are in love with him already? You guys will be like the ultimate power couple of all of Split River High!” You sigh “Mary geez can you talk quieter? I don’t want Mom and Dad to hear” You sling your bag on the bottom step of the staircase. “Oh sweetheart, we already know how you feel for him.” Your mom chimed in from the kitchen. “I the only one who doesn’t know is Wally himself” She added. Lovely just lovely, somehow everyone knows about my crush. “Wait. How do you know? Did you say something Mary?” You said annoyed at your sister. “Sweetie, it’s so obvious how you feel. Its cute. Two best friends since birth developing feelings and falling in love. Now that’s a romance story I would read!” Mom said giggling with Mary. “Ok cool I’m going to wash up and we won’t talk about this more” you slurred leaving the kitchen to head up to your room.
You thought as you entered your room. Maybe it was time to admit your feelings to Wally. He could feel the same was as you did. Or worse he doesn’t, and you ruin your only friendship you’ve ever had. The thing about yourself you liked to keep to yourself. Got all your schoolwork done and wouldn’t dare be seen at a party unless it was one that Wally through. You and him are the complete opposite in the social scene but you somehow worked not because you were desisted to be friends by our parents by because you and him got on so well. Screw it, I’m telling him after the homecoming game. You thought to yourself as you walked back downstairs for dinner.
