Just got into The Magnus Archives and is it just me or does The Distortion (Michael) have absofuckinglutely MASSIVE David Bowie vibes.

Ok but, brainstorming here, danny as an avatar of the end but also the spiral and/or the extinction ? Like the end yeah sure obviously, but the spiral in that he looks vaguely wrong in BOTH forms. He looks like walking corpse as a human, pale and cold and somewhat decaying. As a ghost he's got too much blush to his cheeks, you can feel his bones and see him bleed and he doesn't look quite as transparent/translucent as the others do, he's too human. The extinction idk if I'd include or not but idk something about being one of the only of your specific species kinda hits in that area I think.
The only other characters I have a clear fear tie to would be his parents, while yes you could argue their also the end I think they fit so much better with primarily the hunt, for again probably obvious reasons. The end could tie into that, IF they have to come to the realization that they are tied in with what they've seen as their prey all along, which could be fun to handle. Oh, like parent like child as well, you could say their extinction purely bc they gave the ghosts access to the living and created danny which creates dan who kinda ends humanity 😁 just brainstorming don't mind me.
been playing around with various Michael designs. I spent a ton of time on the coloring, and basically none on the line art, and it SHOWS. Overall I’m pleased with it. Expect more in the coming days and weeks.

A closeup on the main drawing. I’ve been playing around with different designs for him, and I think this one’s pretty cool:
His scarf morphs into what the corridors would look like from above, with the pale yellow carpet and black rug described by Helen Richardson.
We got Michael in his corridors, just vibing:)))
I spent too much time on these corridors to have them completely covered up by our boy (gender neutral)

That clay figure that The Worker In Clay made was probably originally intended to be point C for the distortion, as it’s a really good representation of the distortion in its “pure form”.

absolutely all for the idea that snow is spiral weather. snowstorms are where the vast and the spiral cross over. I’ve walked through many a snowstorm and can confirm you will feel incredibly small and also batshit insane afterwards
Distortion headcanons, you say….? :)
Fractals usually seem to have a pattern where the iterations get infinitely smaller.
However, the hallways and corridors and things within the distortion do not appear to shrink infinitely or anything.
This is only because the person is essentially inside of the distortion and therefore is basically also infinitely shrinking at the same rate as the place around them. To them, nothing appears to change, if that makes any sense-
Also, the “center” of the distortion is probably referring to “C” in the equation for the Mandelbrot set (Zn+1 = Zn^2 + C), which is the starting value for the set.

Y’know that cool effect that happens when you put two mirrors up facing each other? I think that’s why they’re in the distortion.
the shrinking fractal hypothesis is canon now btw. I just made it canon actually. that is the best explanation I’ve read for infinitely branching hallways that isn’t “it’s just like that”

anyway that unlocked a memory. as a young child I used to sit between two facing mirrors in my house and just stare while moving my arms so they looked all messed up and honestly I think that’s why I’m like This
I like to think all iterations of the distortion have simultaneously fantastic fashion sense yet horrible taste. Like a snazzy suit and tie but the colors physically hurt to look at
