He had multiple chances to do the right thing but still KNOWINGLY chose cruelty, even when the people he cared about were harmed. Why? Because no one else mattered as long as he got what he wanted.
all the people sympathising with snow and saying they can't hate him anymore after watching tbosas... y'all let awful white men get away with ANYTHING as long as you find them attractive and it SHOWS
Wish we got to see Delly and Madge in the movies!
I know there a lot of things I would’ve liked to have seen on screen. But one I would put on there is Delly calling out Peeta anytime he’s rude to Katniss.
Delly to Peeta:
It’s also just a good parallel to Haymitch telling Katniss to try and be nice to Peeta.
Like Delly and Haymitch were fighting for their lives to save Everlark. Ultimate shippers

“Hello, how can I help you?” Peeta’s professional tone is quickly replaced with a genuine smile when he notices it’s you he’s talking to.
You hesitated for a moment, “I was hoping I could show you something…when you aren’t working?” It came out as a question because your mind is suddenly questioning every reason you decided to ask him.
Peeta takes a glance at the space behind him. You see that he catches his fathers eye and the older man comes up to the front.
Peeta whispers something to his father as you observe the bakery. The comforting space was familiar to you as you had been in here as a customer many times. You were silently glad that it was only you and the Mellarks in. But, more specifically you were glad that Peeta’s mother wasn’t in.
When the whispering stopped you turned your head towards Peeta to see him smiling while examining your face.
He drew his eyes away when he noticed he was caught, “Let me put my jacket on, okay?”
You nodded and sat at one of the tables in the bakery.
Peeta wasn’t long, rushing out from behind the counter with a white bag with some of the bakery’s goods.
“I know these are your favorite.” He held them out to you.
You took them in a bit of shock, flattered that he knew that they were your favorite, “Thank you.”
He nodded and then sent a glance at the door. Suddenly remembering why you came, you hopped up from your chair and made your way out the bakeries door. Glancing back a few times to make sure Peeta was following you.
———————————————
After a few minutes of walking with pleasant chatter between you and the blonde, you stopped at the wooden fence that surrounded your town.
“It’s beyond the fence?” Peeta’s tone was questioning.
“Yep.” You said, climbing over the fence slower than you normally would, nervous that he would decide to back out.
But Peeta only climbed over the fence and looked at you with eyes full of trust, letting you lead the way.
You suddenly realized how easy it would’ve been to take Peeta anywhere. You could’ve taken him to an active volcano and he would’ve followed you loyally, trusting you with his life.
Your gaze found the opening in the trees that you had discovered not too long ago, and turned towards Peeta, only to find he was looking at you already.
“It’s through the opening right there.” You pointed. Peeta followed your gaze and nodded.
He let you go first before following through. The blonde gazed around the sight of the abandoned train tracks in wonder.
“The forest practically covers every entrance and exit. I’ve yet to find another opening I can easily get through.” You commented.
Peeta grinned at you, “How did you find it?”
You shrugged, “Dumb luck, I suppose. I was spaced out while watching the trees when I caught a glimpse of the tracks.”
“How far does it go?”
“Miles. I haven’t found an end though.”
“Does anybody else know about it?”
“Just us.”
Peeta turned at you, his gaze questioning, “Why did you show it to me?”
You avoided his eyes, “I thought you’d like it.”
“I do like it.” Peeta confirmed, “Why not any of your other friends?”
You kicked a stone you found on the tracks, “I don’t have many friends.”
Peeta shook his head, “I don’t believe that.”
You caught sight of his smile and you couldn’t help but match it. You sat down on the edge of a track, it wasn’t the most comfortable but you preferred it to the ground, “Well it is.”
“How come? You're such an amazing person. I mean, you're smart, kind, thoughtful, and beautiful.” Peeta said
“You’re not too bad yourself.” You opened the bag of the bakery goodies and offered him a bit.
He shook his head and plopped down next to you.
“I showed you because…you’re just…I like your company.” You said.
Peeta nodded, “I like your company too.” After a beat of silence he added, “Also, because..I admire you. I mean, I never would’ve been able to find a place like this.” He motioned to the space around us.
You shook your head, “It was just dumb luck.”
“Maybe. But anyone else wouldn’t have cared for it the way you do. They wouldn’t have seen it the way you do.”
“How do I see it?” You asked quietly
“Peaceful, beautiful, a place that’s so special you’d only show it to a few people.” He gazed at you, speaking in a whisper, “It’s one of the reasons I like you.”
You examined his face to see if you were interpreting his sentence wrong, but when he moved closer to you, your heart fluttered with joy.
“Can I kiss you?” He asked
You nodded so subtle you weren’t sure he noticed until he did kiss you.
His lips were warm, soft, and comforting.
It was a quick but meaningful kiss. He grinned widely before pulling you in for a longer one, his hand coming up to caress your cheek.
“You like me?” You asked after it was over.
“I thought it was obvious.” He laughed, “Do you like me?”
“I thought it was obvious.” You repeated, before kissing him another time.
I just know the botanic garden in my town hates to see me coming because my main focus is plants tied to hunger games lore
Watching the hunger games and seeing Hughi kill Rue.🥲
thinking about how in the og triology katniss says her mother forbid her from singing "dangerous songs", thinking about how snow probally banned the songs of the covey to finally get rid of them, thinking about burdock singing them in his house to his daughters, thinking about katniss singing to prim, to rue, to the rebellion, thinking about how snow tried so hard to get rid of the songs only for them to survive everytime and with them the covey themselves, because as long as their songs get sung they can never be completly gone, can they?
catching fire, chapter three:
reading this like ohhhhhh don’t worry katniss you’ll get to go swimming soon enough
i just finished rereading the hunger games (book 1) and can feel the obsession coming back full strength. the last time i read these i was in middle school so it’s been at least 7 years which is crazy to consider. and let me tell you, the books are no less brilliant today than they were then. if anything, they’ve gained strength and meaning in the face of today’s political climate
literally me with everything i consume
The purpose of life is to get really into stories that drive you so crazy you sometimes feel the need to throw up from how much you love them
No because WHAT do you mean Johnny Sinclair and Haymitch Abernathy are going to be played by the same actor??
looking for content on a series you haven’t finished and accidentally getting spoiled:
I keep rereading this paragraph, and it keeps hurting my brain. So, who is supposed to be homophobic in this society, Suzanne?
We are definitely meant to read it as "peacekeepers will harass you, but the D12 citizens are fine with you being gay."
Why, though?
Peacekeepers come from Capitol (or D2 that aspires to be as similar to the Capitol as possible), and we know from MJ that in order to shock the Capitol citizens you need to engage in something really scandalous, like incest.
(Meanwhile, Finnick's "clients" (i.e., rapists) are never specified to be exclusively women. Even Katniss, who is somewhat prudish, is bothered by the quick turnover of his "partners", not their genders.)
Do the peacekeepers go through an insensitivity training of some sorts? Does President Snow personally come to the training centres and explain what kind of bigots they need to be? How are those peacekeepers supposed to act if they later return to the Capitol?
I'm pretty sure Collins just aimed for the "police & authoritative state are homophobic" narrative, but it makes no sense if the Capitol itself is a sex-positive environment. Like, ussr (which is usually a template for the secular YA dystopias) outlawed homosexuality, but they used the "male homosexuality is a sickness, female homosexuality doesn't exist" explanation. Is that something Capitol tells the districts?
Homophobia might have developed under the guise of "replenishing the population after the war", which would make a lot of sense in a post-war Panem, but despite the excessive talks about propaganda and posters we see nothimg about "needing more people" or "having more kids" (as kids would later potentially become tributes). Also, that would surely affect the districts more than the Capitol.
"Fired from jobs" is even weirder. I would understand if D12 was a small and traditional community that persecuted queer people, especially if queerness was something associated with the Capitol and its decadence. But no, we are apparently meant to think that the D12 folk are not homophobic at all, even though there is a pretty clear social divide between the merchants and the Seam miners. Also, who is supposed to do the said firing? Peacekeepers function like an army, so they answer to their higher-ups in the Capitol. I can believe that D12's coal mines are also under the total control of the Capitol, but who is going to fire the window-maker (especially since D12 is very small, so it's unlikely they have more window-makers)? The sellers from the black market? The "goat man"? Are the merchants not in control of the employees in their stores? What about the family-owned businesses, like the Mellarks or the Donners?
"Arrested" finishes me. So, say, you get arrested for being queer. Then what? Are you going to be executed? That was never mentioned as a motivation to shoot / whip / detain someone, even though in CF we see a lot of peacekeepers' crackdowns on D12. Are you going to stay in jail? That's gonna cost Capitol a lot of money. Does D12 even have a jail (Lenore Dove was kept on a "peacekeepers' base" in SOTR)? Are you going to continue working in the mines, but without salary, if we are continuing the ussr metaphor?
More importantly, are gay teenagers more likely to be reaped?
Make it make sense///
Yes, it's a book for kids. But if my kid is old enough to read about war, rebelion, and teenagers killing each other with melee weapons, they are totally old enough to read about gay people.
The way Haymitch constantly had to reassure us that he "only liked Maysilee as a sister" was kinda annoying. Can you tell Suzanne doesn't want them to be shipped together?
Isttfg, it's like when Nina Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries, and Bonnie and Damon had to refer to each other as "my best friend" every fucking time they shared a frame.
The hunger games sketch
Great, now I can unsee that! 😭
for context: filipinos sometimes use their own ship names as their child's name, so "finnick" was the ship name in my little jokey joke.
Yeah, and I’d love to see it with her interacting with Mags since her games was I think just a year after Lucy Gray’s. Oh and I’d love to see her just audibly shading Snow in the arena, knowing he’s watching because she knows she’s most likely not gonna survive the quell and might as well throw a few more potshots before dying
Caesar Flickerman: Now, you were the victor of the 10th hunger games ladies and gentlemen! Tell us, Lucy Grey, how different were those games compared to now?
Lucy Grey at 80 something years old, zero fucks left to give and knowing that she was going to die within a minute of the quarter quell: well Caesar, I must say that being hosted in an apartment building instead of being put in a rat infested zoo cage with the 23 other tributes and given no food or water until the games started is definitely a big step up.
I personally choose to believe that the Hunger Games series is supposed to be Katniss's memoir/way of setting the record straight about her and her loved ones part in the Games/war. Meaning I think the entire country of New Panem was going into a FIT with every new chapter they read, let alone book. Just imagine the podcasts for a second.
"SO THE STAR-CROSSED LOVERS OF DISTRICT 12."
"YEAH."
"FATED SOULMATES."
"DESTINED TO BE TOGETHER."
"Role model for all of our relationships, I think it's safe to say."
"Mmhmm."
"It was a SURVIVAL STRAT????"
That baby reveal??? Had the country in SHAMBLES when they realized Peeta was lying. Her editors probably told her to just keep that out and she probably just said "why?? I have actual kids now, it's fine." The tabloids are blowing clear the fuck up all day every day. Peeta's hijacking??? People already knew but they didn't know EVERYTHING. God, those podcasts were LIT.

@countrymusiclover
What if Haymitch had a daughter after he won the games. What if he hides her true identity to keep her name from being called. What if she's best friends with Prim and is crushing on Gale Hawthorne.
Y/n L/n ( Abernathy ) lives in District 12 hiding from the Capital on her own while her father helps the new people chosen to be in the Hunger Games. Until her best friends name is drawn then she is asked to come to the Capital with Katniss and Peeta. Will she be discovered, will her and Gale get together, the biggest question is will the odds be in her favor?

The Capitol continues to torture it’s victors no matter how long ago they won through punishment, exploitation, and worst of all; their relationships.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of these works. All credits go to the rightful owners. Please remember that these have simply been my preferences throughout the year. Also, note that I have not watched the shows or played the games related to some of these fandoms so I cannot promise that my recommendations are true to character. This masterlist also acts as a physical depiction of my mental illness😃🙂😅

Here is the link to my fanfic rec list from 2023:
Finished reading Sunrise on the Reaping in the morning and it absolutely destroyed me and had me sobbing. I’m still pretty sad after reading and my eyes are hot and puffy even though it’s been hours.
I started reading it yesterday and I ended up crying myself to sleep after I finished reading chapter 18. Then I started chapter 19 this morning and finished the book at around 12:58 or at 1:00. Started sobbing violently, snot running down my nose as I finished it… heh.
No wonder my eyes are puffy I’ve been crying for a whole day straight
Peeta “if it weren’t for the baby” motherfuckin Mellark

Fuck Coriolanus Snow I hope you went out in agony and burn in hell ❤️
If Coriolanus went to a normal high school, he’d get his ass beat day one. Just saying.
Can you imagine Tigris finding out about what snow does to the victors? Like when Finnick went on the district 13 stream to show they were alive and he exposed snows wrinkly ass, did Tigris see that too? That’s probably another reason why she was so okay with Katniss killing him. In her eyes, this was her cousin going from this sweet little boy she’d do anything for, to this ruthless shell of a man who’d do anything for power. Selling and poisoning people like it was nothing. Her heart probably broke into little pieces bro 😭
Peeta and Katniss are what Coryo and Lucy could have been if Coryo wasn’t power hungry (and insane) and actually knew how to process love vs obsession
Tell me I’m wrong. I will die on this hill.
Yo The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was crazy
Seeing into Snow’s mind that way and how he thinks was wild. I had like five crisis’ while reading it and I still need to prOCESS MY THOUGHTS
Fr tho such a good book and def recommend if you’re ready for a mind fuck of sorts. I can’t wait to see the movie
Scott Pilgrim, The Hunger Games, Undertale, and Overwatch all trending what fucking timeline is this
Hunger Games fanfic blurb:
I sipped the last of my water, slow as I could, hoping it would tide me awhile through the heat of the Hobb. Business was slow today. Not that we make much on other days, selling trinkets and scraps of metal and cloth in a district where most people could barely buy bread. But we scrape by.
But today, I hadn't a single body come by to look at the wares. Although, I s'pose, when you've got a Reaping tomorrow, you're probably not in a buying sorta mood. Even Greasy Sae is selling her stew for half price today for the youngins that usually come around to her corner.
Speaking of the youngins, one of them walks my way. The one with stern eyes who brings fresh game from the woods. The butcher's wife says she hunts 'em with a bow and her arrows never miss the mark. Must be nice to have a useful trade like that. Sometimes, she trades me berries for balls of yarn. That's probably what she's making her way over for.
Never got her name. I call her "Stern Eyes" and word around the Seam is she sings like a songbird. My Gammy Maude would've liked that. She gives me berries wrapped in cloth, and I give her the yarn. But she doesn't walk away.
She reaches her hand into one of the boxes, the one with old pins for hair and clothes that might've been pretty once but had gotten rusty and dusty since. Then she pulls out that pin. Gammy Maude's pin that used to belong to her friend. The friend with bad luck in love and even worse in life. Some say she ran away, and some say got shot in the woods by her lover. Gammy said her friend used to sing too. Like a songbird.
Gammy never liked that pin much. Said it never brought nothing but bad luck. I think it just reminded her too much of her friend and the lover who might've shot her. But she still kept the pin till she died. Guess reminders are still reminders.
It's a mockingjay pin. Might be gold, but it's too old and grimy to tell. Could've sold it for scrap metal, but after hearing Gammy's stories, I could never bring myself to melt the damn thing down. And it's not like I could just walk up to the fancy parts of town with a mockingjay pin to sell. The peacekeepers would have cuffed me before I could quote a price. Probably really is bad luck anyway.
Stern Eyes is holding the pin and askin how much. I think of asking for a couple of coins, and then I remember the Reaping. She's probably young enough to have her name in the bowl. More than a couple of times, like every Seam kid. I wonder if it'd bring bad luck to her too. Or maybe it'd bring her good luck. If I'm being honest, I just want the pin gone. Can't keep holding on to a thing like that.
I tell her she can take it. No charge. Can't ask people to pay you for what could be bad luck. Don't know why she picked that one, but I wonder if she knows anything about the last songbird who had it.
I really hope it brings her better luck than Gammy's friend.
Writer's note: I know this isn't accurate to the books where Katniss gets the pin from Madge and the pin isn't really mentioned in TBOSAS. But I remember she gets it in the Hobb in the movie and it does make an appearance in the prequel movie as well. Soooo, that's where this idea came from!
You know what's really ironic when it comes to Coriolanus Snow? It's the fact that according to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, he garners attention and approval and finally mentorship under Dr. Gaul by pushing the idea of balancing humanity and spectacle in the hunger games. Make the tributes human enough to get attention and get people invested in the games. But make them spectacle enough that people don't look deep enough to question the games themselves. Make the competition human enough that people will pick sides and pour money. But make it spectacle enough that they don't protest their side losing.
It's the idea that paves his rise to power. But it's also the same thing that brings about his downfall. The spectacle of the hunger games gave a front and center platform to a naive but defiant girl from District Twelve to become the face of a revolution and the ultimate weapon against him. The measured humanity that he urged into the games got people to trust her word, trust her very image in ways that Snow had never anticipated. The balanced wielding of humanity and spectacle that Lucy Gray used to win her games is what Katniss used to end them, both enabled by Snow.
And here's the final kicker- the reason his brutally brilliant plan failed him in the end was because of the one thing Snow never took seriously enough to consider. The Districts. Snow had keen insight into how the people of the Capitol worked and thought. It allowed him to manipulate many of them. But he dismissed the role of the districts as inconsequential in the larger play of things. As long as they were kept suppressed, it didn't matter. And that's where his oversight cost him. He didn't consider the effects of the same humanity and spectacle when perceived by the districts. He didn't see how he was giving them the spark they were always looking for until the match had already been lit. The girl was already on fire. The Capitol was already burning. The snow was already melting.
