thinking about my other hogwarts dr (i have a lot of them. 🙂↕️) where i will spend the majority of my time in hogwarts and my 20s researching and experimenting different ways of time travel, simply to satiate my curiosities. i will be a historian for my own sake and i will not publish any of my findings (i probably would be put into azkaban, as time travel is against the law).
i want to be the person that figures out how to time travel with no additional accessories (e.g. a time turner). i want to know how the ancient egyptians/greeks/romans/chinese/turks did their magic. how did it tie into their religious beliefs? was there a muggle/witch separation (i assume the statue of secrecy is only for the UK)? what was the norm, did they categorize kinds of magic (light/dark etc.)? what was disallowed (like how blood magic is taboo in europe’s wizarding world)? did they strictly use wandless magic? did they have other means of channeling magic (artwork, dancing, singing, music, poetry/literature, etc.)? did they cast spells or was it less structured? did they have incantations or was it pure feeling?
i could script all of this just to have an idea, but i really want to just learn for myself idk. like there is learning from secondary sources and there is being the primary source yourself. idk the idea of being a time traveling witch . its so cool. I’M so cool. Wow

.
if you’re magic, you’re born into this world with a little bit of an itch, just a bothersome little crackle in your fingertips, a tingle in your brain, a need to do something, make something, break something — construction, destruction, transmutation — you were made to create .. but lacked the tool to channel that power
the wand is not only a piece of equipment. it’s a companion, a teacher, an extension of your mind — and the right wand finds you
mine found me after six different attempts, i was growing restless, my eleven year old attention span was wearing very thin and another false positive would have sent me into a spiral
but then i was handed this beauty :
9.5” inches of dark red sandalwood, the kind that is found deep in the forests of karnataka. it encases a mere four strands of mermaid hair, braided together and kept in place by the sturdy celestite crystal near the base of the wood. embedded with both a source of magic (the mermaid hair) and a source of mediation (the crystal), this wand has a power that revels in the extremes, whatever the spectrum, it enjoys testing its limits. and to combat this detrimentally curious nature, the oxidised silver handle allows for a form of equilibrium, balancing the scales of both the wand and the witch that wields it —
red sandalwood :
from a tree that thrives in tropically dry and arid soil, red sandalwood (or sandalwood in general) is deeply paradoxical in its nature, it’s multifaceted, it’s twin layered — on the one hand, it enjoys an environment without much moisture, but on the other hand, sandalwood will always be associated with the moon and water — protective symbols of light and darkness, chaos and consolation — wielders with wands of this nature may find their magic is stronger at night, more acute during a full moon, a little temperamental at a new moon, and ever so inclined to natural, elemental magic … [excels in charms, alchemy and ancient runes]
mermaid hair :
an unusual wand core, mermaid hair reverberates at a level of serene melancholy, it engages well with those that thrive in solidarity. very loyal in nature — it will not be easily swayed to another wielder if stolen or even won in battle. it seeks freedom and exploration and is inclined to wielders that are curious and experimental in their magic. when mastered, this core has a proclivity to enhance the mental stimulation of its wielder and empower some forms of wandless magic, opting to be subconsciously linked rather than practically used. because of this deeply personal connection between the wand core and its wielder, mermaid hair wands tend to be a novelty and passed down between generations of the same family, much like mermaids and their tightly knit bonds, so, if a wielder is randomly chosen by a mermaid hair wand, they might want to look into their family history … [excels in potions, herbology and alchemy]
celestite crystal :
highly vibrational in nature, celestite is both fragile yet powerful. when tethered to something sturdy and dependable, celestite has the ability to transmute and enhance the energy of its host and one needs to only touch it to feel the charge of its power. it is used by many seers and mages, adorned on their person as a beacon of psychic activation, giving clarity to clairvoyant messages, and when used right, it can revolutionise dreams to be more vivid and memorable. on the more practical side, both wizards and muggles alike use this crystal for its flammability — in fireworks and potions, to destroy cursed objects and burn bloodied runes — this crystal can start a flame with just a sliver of a shard, if left uncontrolled … [excels in potions, ancient runes and defence against the dark arts]
oxidised silver :
renowned for its safety and protective properties, silver has been used for millennia to ward off vampires, werewolves and malevolent spirits (though the accuracy of this belief is debatable), it explains the age of the wand itself — a wand encased in silver has lived a long life and has probably been used for many centuries. the element of change and the cycles of life and death pass by, but the power of silver doesn’t diminish, it only evolves — the oxidised nature of silver responds to the temperament of the wielder, the way they hold the wand, the placement of their hand, and it blackens around the grasp — light surrounded by darkness, the shadow beneath the flame, death preceding rebirth … [excels in transfiguration, alchemy, and ancient runes]

When I tell people they can simply shift with daydreaming and they hit me with "but I daydream all the time, why haven't I shifted?"
Because you perceive it as a daydream and not a actually reality you are living and experiencing.
If you are daydreaming and you are so focused on the fact you are "not there yet" or the fact you wish to be "actually" experiencing that daydream right now is the reason why you didn't shift through the daydreaming.
Shifting doesn't take much, and telling yourself otherwise is sabotaging yourself. Realise your dr is real and take it in. Immerse yourself in your dr and simply be there and don't overthink it.

one thing about me and draco malfoy is that we hate each other. NOT in the enemies to lovers way. genuinely. i do NOT like this overgrown stuck-in-middle-school-maturity bully. and he doesn’t like me because… well i don’t know why. so it really does suck ass when we get picked as head girl and head boy in our final year in hogwarts. and that we now have to share a suite. for the whole ass year. at least we don’t have to share a bedroom. i always end up thinking.. will we end up genuinely enjoying each others presence? will the year end with us feeling an ever darker shade of hatred? will we simply tolerate each others existence ten months? what will happen when we bring some friends over to the suite? will he try to lay down some rules only for me to trample on them? or vice versa, since we’re both petty when it comes to each other?
its interesting to think about. draco is an interesting personality. i want to pick apart his brain. (also, i did script that he will end up as an unspeakable at some point in his life, so we will unfortunately (or fortunately!) have the same job until retirement, i suppose . haha.)

mango colt looks like she knows something that you don’t: which probably is true because she can see the future. she was always seen in her hometown as the ‘weird’ one . . . . not in a negative sense, but she had just certain tastes who were quite uncommon. her trinkets mean everything to her !! weird laps, dolls, mugs, pillows, rings, snow globes, clocks. everything in her room seems to have a piece of her soul (in a good way…) and she also reads a lot of books, muggle and wizardry. her personal favourites are frankenstein and the arthurian legends. she also writes a lot in her journals; now fourteen, she started writing something in her diaries everyday, she has now over 20 of them. she always carries her current one in her bag.

Shifting is guaranteed. I know you hear a lot of people say this, but it truly is. Nothing can stop you from shifting, not even death. The moment you found shifting and decided you want to do it, you already did. There's no hurry, no rush, you just have to wait for it to be reflected into the 3d. And it's 100% sure that it will, so sit back, get yourself a drink (coffee) and watch it come to you!
WHY THE FUCK THIS HAS TO HAPPEN TO ME RIGHT NOW?- but they say when you change your perspective that when the miracles happen
HOW TO TURN YOUR DISADVANTAGES INTO ADVANTAGES
Instead of trying to reprogram your mind to get rid of your disadvantages why not just turn them into a advantages. I truly don't think anything is a problem when it comes to shifting if you just shift your perspective.
1. ╰┈➤“I’m overthinking everything right now.”
Use it as a DR spiral.
Instead of shutting it down, channel it. Start overthinking your DR. Spiral into the details.
“What’s the smell of my DR room? How does my s/o handwriting look like? What the last thing I seen before I went to bed last night in my DR?
Let your overthinking become a insight of your Dr in small details. Small details = deep connection.
2╰┈➤“My brain won’t shut up / I keep getting random thoughts.”
Let them.
Even if those thoughts have nothing to do with your DR, let them pass without resistance.
When you stop fighting your mind, it relaxes. And once you’re relaxed, your method flows more easily. Your thoughts don’t block the shift—they soften the space around it.
(I'm also a firm believer you can get into a void state by just yapping your brain away)
3╰┈➤“I feel bored / I want to stop / This is taking too long.”
→ Reframe it as a sign of closeness.
Affirm in your mind:
“I’m bored because I’m already there. My reality just hasn’t caught up yet.”
Because remember our senses are last thing that shifts. Boredom means you’re there— your awareness is already there.
Boredom isn’t a block—It’s neutrality, It’s how your DR self feels—calm, natural, already there.
4╰┈➤ “I got distracted / I forgot I was even doing the method.”
→ Celebrate it.
That’s literally ideal. A lot of accidently shifts happen when you stop obsessing and let your subconscious take the wheel. It not you who shifts you but your subconscious. And if you can, use it because distractions can bring you to detachment and help you shift.
5╰┈➤ “I fell asleep mid-method!”
→ That was the method.
You didn’t fail—you succeeded. Not only you can turn this into a "method" now by just shifting while you sleep with no effort, but let me tell you something everytime you think of being in your Dr before sleep or you wake it extra confused or maybe you got a dream of your Dr? It because you were there while your drself was asleep so you just woke up here but you actually were in your Dr the whole night.
6╰┈➤“My affirmations feel fake / repetitive / I can’t do them for long.”
That’s because they’re already true. Your brain is just bored of repeating what it already knows as true. It’s not resistance—it’s recognition. You’re not convincing your mind of anything, you’re remembering what’s already real.
You already are the version of you that has it all.
7╰┈➤“My DR feels too good to be true.”
→ That’s your CR conditioning talking
It’s not too good to be true. It’s too good to be false. Your DR feels like a fantasy only because CR trained you to accept less. Flip the script: your DR is suited specific for you.
8╰┈➤ "I'm putting my Dr on a pedestal"
okay and so what? People put good stuff in their life on pedestal all the time? That doesn't make it unreachable or unreasonable because they already have it. Just the same way you are already in your Dr. Reminder yourself that it okay to romanticise your Dr life because it still your life.
i love thinking about the magical careers i will pursue after hogwarts. like a curse breaker turned unspeakable????? i finally get to investigate the secrets of the universe and whatnot with magic?????? and i’m cool and mysterious because the whole thing about unspeakables is that they literally can not talk about the work they do???? and its not even just that. Being a curse breaker is literally being a treasure hunting archeologist. That travels around the world to collect and restore magical artifacts that may even be archaic at times . its !!!! so !!!! cool !!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAA
i’m literally so done with this reality i am going to script a new dr where i literally relive life (from the very start) in an earth where discrimination (of any sort) capitalism the patriarchy misogyny colonialism and other shit stuff has never existed and never will and just chill tf out. Not like my better cr drs where i do a fix-it au with my life. No. A completely different live. I’m so done
ok bye

excuse me...terf shifters? terf shifters have COMMUNITY? WTF
if you're in shiftblr and a terf, block me now. I don't want to see you on my dash again.
hi hi hi!! because there is a distinct LACK of op shifters, could you tell us a little bit about your dr? i need something to geek out over i fear
hi hiii! i have more than one op dr, because the one piece world is very vast and also i have many ideas. the dr that i wrote about in my “zoro perspective” post is NOT going to be the dr i write about now because it is still very much bare bones and like.. i am very uncertain about it all the time lol. so i’ll go with the safer option.
⅋. ⑅ ₊ 𓂃 my pirate witch desired reality . . .ᐟ
in this op dr, everything important starts the day of gol d. roger’s execution (because of course it does). i, an 18 year old ex-celestial dragon, attend the execution, and when i’m going back to my dinghy boat (that i stole from marines because Fuck Them), a 16 year old Shanks—who for some reason found me interesting—is like. hey can you give me a lift. i need to get tf outta here. and he’s like. devastated. little guy sounds so fucking sad. so i’m like. yeah sure.
and so we set off sailing. and i am a funny funny woman who manages to cheer up this budding alcoholic, so he really takes a liking to me. we arrive at a lowkey island nearby loguetown to eat and the owner and staff of the restaurant we eat in can’t keep their mouths shut and keep insulting roger, so we leave without paying (because only pirates don’t pay) and run away to my little boat after the owner chases after us. giggling and shit. and on a sunny day, three days after we’ve met, shanks is like. i want to form my own pirate crew. wanna join? and i say HELL YES . boom the red hair pirates are born.
and shanks is chill. he’s in no rush, despite just losing his only damn father figure, and the crew that raised him, and all that tragic shit. so we just keep sailing around the east blue, dine and dashing, wearing stupid hawaiian shirts, getting drunk at bars, yada yada yada. one day i ask shanks what purpose i will serve in his pirate crew when he recruits more people and he tells me that most pirates are ugly as shit because they don’t take care of themselves but that he believes i could never be ugly and that i will be the pretty face to look at (OK ??????? OKAYYYYY????? WHATTT?????(acting like i didn’t script this).
jokes aside, i know navigation, i worked as a seamstress for over a decade, and i WILL be a witch (and the strongest pirate on the seas, but don’t tell people that or they’ll try to fight me to take the title). so like. i have a place, always. i am NOT the first mate, because i could never that away from benn beckman, so i’m . the jack of all trades. the ace card (haha ace).
now. about the witch stuff. this is very much NOT op canon, and i could not care less. its a dr. i can do whatever i want. Haki is NOT magic. Haki is a mysterious power that allows individuals to harness their own spiritual energy, right? So about 2-3 years into the crews formation, i realize that i uh. do not possess the ability to do haki stuff. my spiritual energy does not respond. and i’m like tf? i though this was for everyone? turns out i’m a freak of nature. you see, to do magic in this reality, one must give up their haki. its a whole process. the whole logic is that, magic is inherently overpowered. you think conquerors haki is dangerous? try facing a fucking witch in this reality. luckily for non-witch people, giving up your haki also means you’re gonna go fucking crazy in half a decade after. full on. no sanity left. unfortunately for witches, haki is the only healthy way in which a person can channel their spiritual energy. magic is more powerful, sure, but it erodes your insides, burns you up, eats your brain—it acts weirdly as a parasite. you are condemned to a life of insanity and suffering, and your whole body is working against you. still, these witches live. still, they could take on a couple supernova pirate crews at once and get out alive, but they are unstable and do more damage to themselves, really. its the one piece gods’ way of saying “don’t ask more than what you can handle”.
but i’m not like that. as i said, i am a freak of nature (and more on it later). i never got the chance to give up my haki. i was born without the ability. i don’t have a haki presence, aura, whatever tf, and it really freaks out people when they can’t pick me out with their observation haki lololol. the thing with magic is that, if you have supreme control over your body—every muscle, vein, pump of blood, every neuron in your brain, your genes, your inner organs, everything—you can get away with magic. it cannot corrupt you, because you are its superior. power of yourself is power over the world. and i, resident freak of nature, am capable of this (if you’ve read dune, or watched it, this is very much inspired by the bene gesserit). so i can use magic to channel my spiritual energy. and i’m powerful asf!!! yay!!!!! (did any of this bit make sense???? i really hope it did haha)
moving on from all of this. my s/o is shanks. if you didn’t see this coming, idk what to tell you. the man is gorgeous and lovely and i love him very much. i haven’t scripted when we’ll become a thing because i will literally shift to the day after he asks me to join the crew and i just want it to happen organically without spoiling myself. and when we eventually make it to foosha village, we will adopt tf outta luffy i swear to god. THAT BOYYYY IS MY SON!!!!. we will be a married couple with a kid we left in a village on the other side of the world (just realized how shit this sounds omg)
so far i’ve only thought of my dynamic with shanks so ig i’ll say more about that too. me and shanks are (not actually) dumb and dumber. i will enable this man so much its the reason why benn goes grey at age 40. idk i just like the idea of doing stupid shit with this man. especially when we’re young like… its chaos galore. also we will be THE power couple. we are so sexy. anyway
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟
i feel like i rambled a lot but didn’t actually say much. i didn’t exactly detail my backstory because that is territory i have not yet ventures into (i am too lazy to script), and there isn’t much “plot” for this dr because shanks literally is the chillest mf like . we visit a whole lotta places ig????? idk i’m just along for the ride in this dr ahha so not much to say there either.
hope this was still satisfactory though. if you took time out of your day to read this, thank you thank youuu!!

Hey Mason, what's your favorite method? 🙂
Hi! I don't really use methods, but I shift on command with something that has been named the ''zooming in'' method after I explained how it works for me!
I'll include a description I wrote for it a while ago for anyone who wants to give it a try :)
The method itself is extremely simple, and it can be used in basically any state; fully awake, before sleep or when just waking up, I reckon a lucid dream would work too! It should take around a few seconds, but it could be up to a few minutes to shift this way. Keep in mind to not overdo yourself, and take a break if you don't succeed after more than a few minutes, just try again later.
For the method you are going to close your eyes, and imagine the place you're shifting to. You DO NOT have to visualise!! but you can if you think it would help you. Imagine the place you're shifting to in front of you, as if you're looking directly at it, but from a zoomed out view. Personally I cannot visualise, so this is all based on feeling, not on actually seeing anything! For me it helps to imagine the energy of that place. And moreso 'remembering' it. Then all you do is zoom in, imagine said place rushing towards you, it's getting closer to you until you merge with it, and in the same thought your current surroundings get kind of pushed back or are ignored.
That's literally all there is to it! If I don't shift, I often notice myself feeling very dizzy and disoriented for a little bit, and for me it's the easiest way to just quickly get out of any place I'm at. Another way of describing it would for it to be like teleporting (although I don't think any of you here knows what it feels like). It's like you feel a bit of a rush, like you travelled for the slightest second, and then you're somewhere else.
It's the best way I can describe how I shift, and it works well for me. Other people have also had success with it based on comments I have received, but it's in no way the key to shifting. Remember that you can shift any way, anytime, anywhere. You can change or adjust anything you want, always💚
i missed my man so i wrote this. enjoy.
⅋ . R.Z.: a perspective ⸝⸝ one piece desired reality . . .ᐟ
“In a rare moment aboard the Thousand Sunny in which Roronoa Zoro thinks of the past, he can’t help but focus on the first time he had met his captain…
He remembers how she had looked at him with her eerily blank and intensely all-seeing eyes all the way up from the wall she had climbed. He remembers how see-through he had felt, as if his not-yet-captain had seen all he had to offer her (three swords and a dream) with one, long look. And he is sure she had seen, as she has always been like that. Always understanding people with a glance, or a few throwaway words, maybe a conversation if the subject is particularly difficult (see: Nico Robin). Always seeing through the bullshit people spew because she is above it━being the type of person that values honesty and bravery ’n all.
He laughs as he thinks of the sentence “What makes you think I’d wanna play pirates with you?”. He hadn’t fooled anyone that day. He might’ve meant it at that moment, but his resolve had broken down at the words she had uttered back to him, full of the confidence that nowadays makes him weak in the knees and his chest hurt with pride and love love love and loyalty, “Oh, we won’t be playing.” that mischievous/kind/silly smile, “We’ll be the real deal!”, and “If you’re the Demon of the East, you must be strong. The future King of the Pirates needs a strong swordsman at her side, no?” and goddamn him if he ever says and lies that the flattery hadn’t made him flush a bit, and widen the cracks in his resolve. There his captain was, sweet and young in a way she hasn’t been since Marineford, convincing the infamous pirate hunter of the East Blue to join her non-existent pirate crew with nothing but her words, her big deep brown eyes, and her devastating grin, and a bit of blackmail (though she always denies that small part). He remembers telling himself that he would leave her behind after she tells him the location of his swords instead of following her into an adventure that would probably make his hair grey before reaching twenty (and he was nineteen!), and he laughs and laughs at his past self. He had (miraculously) found his way around that foul marine base and found his swords, but the bright and unforgettable presence of the girl with the straw hat and big smile was too magnetic to leave behind. He had squared up for a future of watching the back of the girl that had the sun shining out her ass and joined her in the fight against the douchebag with the axe-hand and metal jaw, called her captain, and followed her to her stolen dinghy boat to sail off on an adventure and new life he would never, ever find himself regretting.
He remembers, and he stops thinking of the past. He thinks of now. He thinks of who they are, fours years after the fact. He thinks of how there hasn’t been a single thing he wasn’t willing to do for that girl/this woman ever since that very first day. He is her determined, ambitious, dangerous, loyal first mate and her dedicated, kind, shy, soft, loving husband. She is his captain and his one love, his desires and his lust, the reason for his ambition. He has dedicated his dream of being the greatest swordsman to her, to be the worlds greatest at the right hand of the freest person in the world━the King of the Pirates, to be the protective blade for his wife to wield. And she has given him her endless love, her small and big smiles, her soft chuckles, her delighted cackles, her protection, her promises, her warmth, and a glimpse of the bright and dark side of the sun he though he could never see.”

THIS MAN LOOOOOOOOVES ME HAHAHAHAH it makes me so so so happy. i would make a proper introduction for this dr, but i genuinely don't know how i could do it better than this━by writing an outside POV drabble of the person who knows me best thinking about the day we met and how awesome-ly in love we are. if its not obvious, i have taken the place of monkey d. luffy, because i wanted zoro as my s/o but i also couldn't out-do the crazy soulmate-ish bond he and luffy have, so ta-da! I AM LUFFY (though my name, personality, backstory, yada yada yada are all altered to my liking). the dr also does not follow canon one piece because i don't want it to. it is self preservation. anyway,,,, that is enough info dumping . i'll stop here for now .
silently taking notes of everything in this post ..
omg i loved your “shifting to Italy” post and was wondering if you could do one for ancient egypt? xx (you don’t have to ofc just a suggestion!!)
ancient egypt was a cradle of civilization concentrated along the lower reaches of the nile river in northeast africa.
act i. when are you?
based on your time period, you will have very much different experiences. i’d suggest you to research which one you are more interested in shifting.
predynastic ( c. 6000-3150 BCE ) preceding recorded history, saw the development of early settlements and the emergence of distinct cultures in the nile valley.
early dynastic period ( c. 3100-2686 BCE ) marked by the unification of upper and lower Egypt, the first and second dynasties ruled during this time, establishing the foundations of the egyptian state.
old kingdom ( c. 2686-2181 BCE ) a period of great power and prosperity, characterized by the construction of the pyramids and the establishment of the pharaoh as a divine ruler.
first intermediate period ( c. 2181-2040 BCE ) period of political instability and fragmentation following the decline of old kingdom.
middle kingdom ( c. 2040-1640 BCE ) period of reunification and renewed prosperity, with advancements in art, architecture, and literature.
second intermediate period ( c. 1640-1550 BCE ) another period of instability, marked by the rise of the hyksos and the fragmentation of egyptian rule.
new kingdom ( c. 1550-1070 BCE) a period of great expansion and military power, with powerful pharaohs like hatshepsut, akhenaten, and ramses ii.
third intermediate period ( c. 1070-664 BCE ) period of decline and fragmentation, with various dynasties vying for power.
late period ( c. 664-332 BCE ) period of foreign rule, with egypt ruled by the assyrians, egyptians, and persians.
roman period ( 30 BCE - 641 CE ) egypt became a province of the roman empire, marked by roman administration and culture.
act ii. who are you?
you are in the middle of a society who has a strict social structure, and where your status will shape your daily life and power. you are born with it, and only scribes, soldiers and artisans could rise. from the most protected to the least one:
pharaoh. used as a title for absolute monarch since under the new kingdom, often called horus on earth. had control over laws, military, religion, and land. lived in luxurious palaces with servants, and wore a double crown ( pschent ) to symbolise his status as ruler. the most well-known are tutankhamun, ramesses ii, and akhenaten.
pharaoh’s family. wives, children and sibilings had high-ranking positions in the government and religion.
nobles. were high-ranking government officials, including the vizier ( the pharaoh's chief advisor a.k.a prime minister, who oversaw taxes, justice, and administration ) and nomarchs ( governors, controlled egypt’s provinces and managed local social ).
priests. they played a crucial role in religious ceremonies and rituals, and they held significant influence in society.
high priest: appointed by the pharaoh, held the highest authority within the priesthood, performing the most important rituals and managing the temple's affairs.
wab priests: carried out essential but mundane tasks, such as preparing for festivals and maintaining the temple complex.
other priests: who read funeral liturgies ( hery-heb ) who read incantatory formulas from the book of the dead ( khereb priests ) and those involved in mummification ( paraschists, taricheutes, and colchytes ).
priestesses: women could also be priests, with their roles varying depending on the specific cult or deity.
scribes. highly respected, literate individuals who held important administrative and clerical positions, responsible for recording and documenting everything from daily activities to royal decrees. part of the elite 1% of the population that could read and write. they used reed pens, black ink made from soot and gum, adding red oxide to make red ink, and palettes.
artisans. they lived in special workers villages ( deir el-medina ) and included stonecutters, painters, carpenters, sculptors, jewelers, and metalworkers. they created tombs, statues, temples, furniture and luxury goods.
farmers. made up the majority of population and they walked in fields, growing wheat, barley, flax and vegetables. during flood seasons they usually worked with artisans.
slaves. prisoners of war, debtors and criminals. they worked in nobles households ( cooking, cleaning, taking care of children ), temples, mines and quarries; some could earn freedom and better positions over time.
act iii. where are you?
where you live will shape your experience drastically. normal houses were built of mud-bricks with floors made from earth, and they had living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms, and many of the large objects that we can move around ( like seats and ovens ) were built into the house. there was no gas or electricity, meaning that food was cooked in stone ovens, using a fire for heat. to keep food, pits were dug and food was stored below ground level.
cities, they were the heart of the civilisation. center of political activity, religion, and economic powers. in the cities lived pharaohs and nobles ( pharaohs lived in the ‘great house’ or “per ‘aa. palaces were lavish, with evidence suggesting sprawling complexes with large dining rooms, and other amenities reflecting the pharaoh's status ) priests and scribes ( temple complexes, government departments, and even private households, depending on their specific duties and employers ) artisans and merchants ( often lived in distinct workmen's villages like deir el-medina, located near the valley of the kings ) slaves ( lived in simple dwellings, possibly separate from their owners' homes, or within the same household as servants ) but…… what cities? here some examples.
memphis. the capital of the old kingdom. full of loud markets, stone temples, and busy workshops. the most notorious thing are the white walls, the great temple of ptah, statues, palaces ( huge monuments of pharaohs ) craftsmen’s quarters ( people making gold jewelry, statues, and linen ) the nile docks ( ships unloading grain, wine, and goods from nubia and the levant ) …. one of the official religious centers as it was the worship center for the holy triad of the creator god of ptah, his wife sekhmet and nefertem.
thebes. the city of the gods. religious and cultural powerhouse, full of priests, scribes, tomb builders, and travelers. you’d see karnak and luxor temples ( giant temples with sphinx-lined roads ) street performers, food vendors, and boat festivals on the nile. markets full of incense, perfume, and imported goods from the red sea trade.
deir-el medina. there were around 68 houses, made of mud-brick built on stone foundations. letters, legal documents, statues and tombs tell us about family and working life. many of the men and women could read. women baked bread and brewed beer. the village had a court of law and everyone had a right to a trial. there was a local police, the medjay, to keep order. the people of deir-el medina also had medical treatment. they could get prescriptions of ingredients, prayers and spells from the physicians.
act iv. how is your social life?

marriage. frequently arranged by parents, they were a primarily a social and economic arrangement, not a religious or legal ceremony, where couples were considered married once they started living together, often after a party or celebration. while divorce was possible, it was difficult, and women were often protected from divorce by marriage contracts that placed financial burdens on men.
friendship. was significant aspect of life in ancient egypt, strong bonds and social obligations between individuals, including the idea of ‘friends’ being part of a broader social circle beyond immediate family.
banquets. they were lavish celebrations featuring large gatherings of family and friends, music, dance, and copious amounts of food and drink, frequently held near tombs to facilitate communication with the deceased. they were hosted by wealthy families and nobles. entertainment consisted in harpists, flutists, dancers, acrobats. the food ?? roast duck, fish, bread, figs, wine and beer. the banquets were often held in tents or colonnaded spaces, which were sometimes depicted in tomb. fun fact : particularly during banquets and celebrations, people wore scented wax cones on their heads, which melted and released a pleasant fragrance.
public festivals and religious celebrations. the most well-known festivals were: opet festival ( in thebes ) was a celebration of amun and mut’s marriage, statues was paraded through the streets. hathor festival is a wild party with drinking, music, and dance. wepet renpet ( new year’s ) is a huge nile-side festival with feasts and fireworks, celebrated mid-july. beautiful festival of the valley is a state festival, initiated by mentuhotep ii, and celebrated the bonds between the living and the dead, with citizens strengthening their bonds with the deceased. wag festival involved making paper boats containing shrines to souls and setting them out on the river nile to float towards the west, commemorating the death and rebirth of osiris.
markets. like today, bustling marketplaces were a social hotspot. the steet vendors sold jewelry, makeup ( kohl eyeliner and scented oils ) fine linen clothes, sandals, spices, perfumes, and exotic imports.
