Bite-sized bots at Vanderbilt University, drumming bots at Georgia Tech, and touchy-feely bots at UCLA… it’s all about National Robotics Week at Science360 Radio this weekend. Download the Science360 Radio app to hear our featured podcasts about cutting edge robotics research.
Above: Founding director of the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology Gil Weinberg created a robotic drumming prosthesis with motors that power two drumsticks. The first stick is controlled physically by the musician’s arms and electronically by his muscles. The other stick on the prosthesis actually “listens” to the music and plays on its own. The team, led by mechanical engineer Veronica Santos, is constructing a language of touch that both a computer and a human can understand. good evening fellow people who are normal
meows
ive been meaning to make a robot character (or characters) for a long time so yayyy ^-^
i think the design is a bit basic so i might change it sometime soon. but its more about the concept than the physical appearance so i dont really mind!! i had this idea a few days ago and ive been thinking about it a lot. plus i love the color palette of some older macos computers
i dont know what to name either of them, though,,, suggestions are welcome! i couldnt come up with anything really. i almost went with Byte and Bit but i thought it was a little on the nose, i guess. maybe ill go with something to do with 1s and 0s. definitely names that go together in some way
Heroes: P.1.X.1 (Prototype 1 Xcablibur 1)
P1X1 was created as the assistant of Jackson Carlyle, being built as his helper and bodyguard. One night during the Carlyle Corporation Expo, Prankster attacked the Expo hall and attempted to assassinate Jackson when he was in his human form. Before he could do it, Prankster was attacked by P1X1, who fiercely fought him, and was nearly destroyed by one of Prankster’s laughing bombs. Seeing potential in her, Jackson rebuilt her with an upgraded Artificial Intelligence capable of feeling emotions, as well as a stronger body capable of flight, teleportation, laser blasts, and various other abilities. She then joined him in his crusade against crime. Their relationship was so much more than a partnership. Thanks to his reprogramming of her AI, she was able to feel emotions such as love. These feelings eventually became so great, she eventually proposed to him and the two were married in mere months. Unfortunately, the relationship would end tragically after P1X1 sacrificed herself in order to save Harking City from Prankster’s tyrannical rule. He managed to overload the powercore of Carlyle Tower, the headquarters of P.E.A.C.E., and threatened to blow up the city if the heroes didn’t back off, and she made the ultimate sacrifice by using her teleportation power to move the tower out of the city.

No matter how dangerous the machines were, they had one weak spot—their lack of stealth. They couldn't infiltrate human camps and strike from behind. The robots were quickly identified, no matter how humanoid Skynet tried to make them. But then the T-800 terminators appeared...
