i have an idea for my current multichapter fic, but i want to run it by everyone here to check opinions!! i'm honestly not sure about it.
the next chapter of my kataang fic "the teenager in the iceberg" takes place in the jet episode in s1, and i'm writing in a lot of jealous aang moments after a lovely ao3 commenter mentioned that it was something they'd love to see:)
my fic is intended to be a fairly slow-burn fic, and its mainly from katara's perspective. i'm still writing the jet episode fully from katara's POV, and just making it kinda clear that aang is jealous through things katara notices. i feel that it'll give away the slow burn too quickly if i switch to aangs POV at all.
i had the idea to write a little one chapter offshoot where i give a bit of aang's pov in those jealous moments katara notices. it wouldn't be in the "the teenager in the iceberg" ao3 fic, it would be its own fic and i'd just make it a series and add it there. would people want that, or would it subtract from the slow burn?
let me know:) i'm open to any suggestions!!

the kids that make up the cast of avatar really are just the best examples of character writing ever. no-one will ever do it better than them 😌

i honestly love how silly so many atla characters are when you boil them down. sokka literally is out here as one small untrained boy with the confidence of an entire trained legion. aang has the most insanely overpowered abilities ever and he gives them up so he can be with his girlfriend, who is literally just a booktok boyfriend reincarnated into a water tribe girl who also invented feminism.
the gaang really are just the best examples of character writing ever. no-one will ever do it better than them.

and sokka definitely went in for a fistbump instinctually then zuko tried to give him a handshake awkwardly and just.....

His ass does not pay attention enough to know all of their genders. Toph wears baggy clothes, he squinted at her and went “yeah that’s a boy. Or boy adjacent. Probably.” and moved on. Ally???
absolutely! its almost as though when he tells katara that she still is a kid during their penguin sledding, he's also reminding himself that. yes, both of them are heroes by the time that they've stopped the war and mastered their respective elements, but they're all still so young and i love that aang and katara are both able to help one another feel like the kids that they are by being playful and silly.
additionally, katara feels this need to behave motherly towards her friends & her brother because of their unconventional upbringing and because her love for her friends often manifests in concern and care, but she admits herself to toph that she wants to feel cool too, that she doesn't mean to be motherly all the time. she needs that reminder that she can let herself be a kid, both of them do, which is why i love the parallels between them in the ways they take on so much responsibility, and the way that they both let each other act their age <3

I actually read a few of their fics last night! I love the portrayal of kataang that they have, and I especially love any kataang being parents content. I also thought it was funny that they took the whole zvtara trope of Katara having to escape Aang (🤢) and then flipped it on its head bc yknow what? We as a ship fandom deserve it after all we deal with lmao.
I have yet to read the Teenage!Aang fic that’s multi chapter and I haven’t read their one shot titled I’m No Longer A Kid, but I will when I get the time! Maybe tonight 💛
There’s truly so many amazing kataang fics to be found on ao3 and fanfiction.net (that’s the site I wrote my first ever fanfics on and yes they WERE kataang fics). We have some truly amazing artists and writers for this pairing <3
If you’d like recs of my own for kataang, I read a couple last night in addition to the author’s you mentioned. Exchange of Wrath by ArmageddonGeneration was incredible (3 chapters) and a one shot From the Moon to the Ocean by the same author. I also recommend literally any kataang content from chocomd on ao3 and they have some zukaang fics too if you ship that. Highly rec Without Water, Midnight Meditations, and Drag You Down, all are kataang fics!
Hopefully I’ll have the time eventually to write a kataang fic myself! I haven’t gotten around to writing anything for them on my ao3 account, but one day I will 🫶🏻 only gotten to post my twilight fics on there and have tons of WIPs and working on original novel too so just gotta find the time to devote to kataang

i've always loved that this is the first thing he says to her because honestly?? katara needs to get to feel like a kid. she did not have any kind of normal childhood, she's felt this pressure to mature and adopt a more motherly role to help her brother and the village and feels like all the responsibility in the world needs to fall on her, and here is this boy who also has this immense amount of responsibility placed on him and he just wants to let her be carefree and kidlike and joyful the way she deserves and just ugh my heart 🤧🤍
