Haven't made any post on this so far, but I have to now.
Since the news of the latest two allegations has come out, there's a sudden surge of fandom posts on this tag in order to drown out the real news. I'm sure the crisis management team has been working real hard, but let's not let them succeed.
Also, no judgement on your media consumption, but if you STILL keep associating your fandom posts with his name and this tag, after FIVE (probably seven) victims have come forward, I have only one thing to ask you:
Are you able to meet your own eyes when you look in the mirror?
back in 2019 and before, neil gaiman was a fucking creep on here. even into 2020 and possibly beyond (i blocked him in 2019 and left the good omens fandom in 2020, abandoning the blog i had at that time to get away from the toxic atmosphere he created and continued to fuel, so i have no specific examples past that year), he wasn't doing anything to alter or denounce the disturbing atmosphere he'd fostered among newer fans. but fans from before good omens really blew him up always knew he was a creep, and we knew he was an overbearing, manipulative monster for a long time.
he would follow fans and send them messages trying to act like he was our friend, or, if he didn't think you were some kind of prospect, he would reblog your posts and spell out to you all the ways he thought you were an idiot, many of which were homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, and racist. it was disgusting, and i and a lot of people blocked him so that he couldn't do that to us anymore, and we would try to warn incoming fans.
but, by the time good omens became what it is now thanks to the series, he had changed his trajectory and, i guess, finally took his pr team's advice and eased up, only answering asks in as neutral or positive a manner as he could and reblogging posts in a more "appropriate" manner. he deleted a lot of old content and became more of the "resident tumblr cryptid author" rather than Anne Rice Lite™. old fans still knew he was trash, but newer fans thought of him as one of the tumblrinas, who just happened to be a "super cool" famous author, and anyone who spoke of him in any way but positively was told we were just jealous or that we were being unduly hateful.
on top of preying on and bullying fans, he is a zionist, he is anti-library (he believes online libraries like the internet archive are bad because they prevent authors from making money), and he is just generally being a massive bigot and a terrible person. he abandoned his wife and child during the pandemic to fly across the globe to be with a younger woman, and his now-ex-wife is a terf, and he is a barely-closeted transphobe himself. neil gaiman has never been our friend.
i'm glad people are finally recognizing him for the disgusting human being he is, and at the same time my heart goes out to the people who have come forward with their stories about the physical, psychological, and emotional harm this man did to them.
A third woman came forward a couple of days ago.
None of the problems people had with the other podcast (and to be honest, I think those arguments mostly just represent the denial and bargaining phases of grief) apply to this one. This woman says she only came forward because the Tortoise podcast made her aware she wasn't alone. Until then she'd believed him when he told her it was just her. Good Omens fans, I'm sorry if you're hearing this from me (although unfortunately it does matter that you hear it from someone). If you had heard but tried to look the other way -- listen, I know this is shocking and heartbreaking. It is of course up to you how you participate in fandom from here. But please stop tagging your fandom posts "Neil Gaiman". You are ensuring that anyone searching for information is going be swamped with Good Omens fanart and S3 countdown posts and pictures of socks(?) and photos of actors who have nothing to do with this. They might then conclude that there's nothing to these allegations. And that mattes: at present, aside from Rolling Stone and the two podcasts, this story hasn't received much press attention. The latest survivor says that she tried reaching out to reporters and was told her story "wasn't enough." So at least for now, social media sites do matter as a record on this. When you drown out this story with your fandom feelings, you are helping, whether or not you realise it, to cover it up. And considering that he seems to have targeted fans who trusted him... I don't even want to finish that thought. So please, stop. Do what you want in the other, more relevant tags. But you're likely to have a better experience if you start trying to separate it from him, anyway.
In these times, I think some of the fandom rules from the 90s still sound good:
-Never get a fandom tattoo
-Don’t engage with the creators, you’re going to be disappointed at best. At best.
So I saw this post about the victims of gaiman and it was..... not very well thought out ngl.
It was basically one of those 'lets not jump to conclusions' type posts and OP listed some known facts and 'facts' about what was up at the time.
Their reblogs were a mess. People weren't happy at all with what they had to say. I think they made another post with more correct info, but that didn't help, because the 'lets not jump to conclusions' vibe was still there.
I think OP was leftist and sorry, not sorry, the American left (online at least) is very immature and hypocritical. This backfires on you in cases like this, because if it were anyone else being accused, most of you would have jumped to crucifying them.
People have been frustrated with the way you've been tiptoeing around gaiman, especially with what he admitted to doing. Even if it's proven that rape wasn't committed, he still slept with young women young enough to be his daughters. That's gross! What business does an old man have sniffing around brand new young adults?
I know you all looked up to him and admired his work, but coming online and making 'lets not jump to conclusions' type posts is not the way to deal with these revelations!
I made an earlier post that said something along the lines of 'waiting patiently to see more posts about this situation' but I take it back if the posts you're making are taking the focus off the victims and potentially excusing horrendous crimes.
One thing OP said that I agree with is that y'all should get off the internet and touch some grass. And probably put down your Good Omens and Coraline for a bit.
And probably delete any iffy posts you made about this situation before it comes back to haunt you in the future.

Just in case this attracts the wrong people: I don't argue on the internet. I'm not a debate- type person and I don't enjoy the act of going back and forth with people that don't want to hear you. If you want to argue, do it with the wall.
Patiently waiting for the neil gaiman tag to be flooded with the current happenings, specifically the top posts section.
I saw a post from July 9th, so apparently this has been a thing for most of this month.
It's not good that I had to find out through a random video on YouTube.
Take your time, but don't delay.
I'm honestly surprised that Gaiman isn't being talked about as much on here.
No, actually I'm not. He's on here isn't he? So he probably has a fan mob here as well.
I'm not on Twitter, so I have no idea what's happening there. I found out through a random video popping up on my YouTube.
I'm not surprised tbh. Wasn't he a male feminist? An oxymoron if I ever heard one. A man that truly supports women won't put a label on it, because it's called 'being a decent human being'.
This has me side eyeing other well known/popular white male authors 👀 👀👀👀👀
Well, according to Neil Gaiman...
And I'll just drop this here...
You know, just in case the Good Omens fandom hadn't cried enough today.
...
@neil-gaiman everyone look at the shirt me and my friend @jayjamjary made, I’ve never been more proud

THE SANDMAN
Calliope 1.11
A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square.
It is so magical that I can listen to a book read by the author themselves
I mean, listening to Neverwhere written AND performed by @neil-gaiman is truly an amazing experience. It's as if he were my uncle who would read me to sleep and tuck me in afterwards. So comforting. Thank you, Neil Gaiman, for your works!
Is how I'm gonna reply to anyone who picks up the phone when I call them and then immediately hang up
I love the fact that Aziraphale's mug has wings. Attention to details my friends
Every fucking second of it is a whole fat mood
Mood.
hey Neil,
If you are to choose between Sandman and good omens on gun point whet would you choose?
to die.
The Graveyard Book and Stardust changed me as a person. It's actual literal magic.
Some of your books make it seems like you believe in actual literal magic, do you? ()
I can write down a few words and make people thousands of miles away, whom I have never met and will never meet, laugh tears of joy and cry tears of true sorrow for people who do not exist and have never existed and never will exist. If that isn't actual literal magic I don't know what is.
WE'RE GOING TO SOUTH DOWNS, BABY.
