SO BASICALLY.. I had a huge hyperfixation on Hlvrai a few years back, which slowly went over to Mdzs.. So I did the only logical thing. Not gonna include the old one cuz it's really bad 😭. But yeah, that was my vision.

You know something I think is overlooked a lot in mdzs is Wei Wuxian power. I'm not sure if it's because of the way he views himself or the way he acts but he I've seen his actual power get overlooked a lot. Like especially when he just comes back from the burial mounds, likely cause we don't really know what happened down there. But from an outside perspective it has to be crazy because this guy has been missing for 3 months, comes back with a never seen before type of cultivation, and is just killing people left and right with new and horrible ways. On top of that wwx tends to kinda not make a huge deal out of it which you can really see when he traps Jin Ling in book 1. In an actual combat situation that tailism would be crazy good cause it immobilizes someone rlly quickly. Wwx is also crazy smart and ppl overlook that a lot too but that's a different post lol

a wonderful forced communication fic because we all know BInqgiu need it. The really special thing about this one is that it also focuses on the peak lords' reactions to finding out that sqq is basically a little baby cultivator LOL. Recommend if you like confessions under duress, support systems, and binghe overthinking a little too hard for too long

I've liveblogged reading this one quite a bit so if you've been following you probably know that I love it and it's destroyed my life. It's really a perfect scum villain fic in that it replicates the source material mood perfectly: you go in expecting funny porn tropes and just get absolutely kicked in the balls by the genuinely touching scenes of emotional vulnerability. This isn't tagged cumplane but it goes in my honorary favorite cumplane (platonic) fics anyway because the way they interact in this is just so . AUGH tears my hair out. Please read it.

I personally think it's hilarious, basically just sy accidentally seducing all the other characters who have very victorian sensibilities just by being a normal 20 yr old guy. Heed the tags for themes of suicide and depression, but it's a really really good piece of hurt/comfort that I highly recommend you read if you're a xian le trio fan. Five times Lan Zhan failed to be a perfect dad in the face of a complete and total hormonal teenager. for my followers who love single dadji and angst: a touching look on mourning Lan Wangji trying his best to raise a Lan Sizhui in the midst of his teenage rebellion alone. Very soft and somber vignettes, all very grounded in their depiction of parenthood and the complexity of wanting to give your child the best while only knowing what you know. Modern au. Again a very touching look at parenthood, this time leaning more into the modern with magic setting- extremely interesting depiction of the things we didn't see in mdzs re: the consequences of Wei Wuxian coming back with regards to Sizhui. Can't recommend this enough if you like dadxian trying his darndest to be as best as he can while struggling to pull his life together.

this one is really interesting! It's almost difficult to tag because it doesn't particularly follow any set relationships, platonic or romantic, but it's very beautifully written and deeply reflective. In general I think I would really say it's a tender depiction of humanity, both human and robotic. I would highly recommend checking it out if you have any interests in robot aus and/or engineer wwx.

oh touch starved lwj my beloved. This is a very sweet fic that tackles coping with trauma, mental health, and letting yourself be loved in a wonderfully unique way. I love the creativity in the concept and the emotion in it is palpable, an amazing fic to read if you like some mdzscql characters x therapy shipping.

equal parts hilarious fluff and genuine touching somberness, this is a great au that I think is wonderful for anyone who enjoys misunderstandings, unfounded rumors, and kidfics where the kids are really the ones raising the adults!

do you like catji? I like catji. Do you like hurt/comfort? I like hurt/comfort! This is a very tender and sweet little piece about shapeshifting and opening up to the people around you, I definitely recommend trying it out if that sounds interesting! It also has some really good comedic and (literally and figuratively) fluffy points, so don't be too scared by the angst tags!

Who are we?: We are a brand new 18+ roleplay server that takes place in a modern society AU where your favorite danmei characters are attending college/university! We are also OC friendly!

What roles are there available?: In Yuyuan Crescent Academy you can be the following: a professor, a student, a tutor, a librarian, a student counselor, part of a fraternity, part of a sorority, and much more!

How does the living situation work out for certain people?: The university offers two main sets of dormitories (Block A and Block B) as well as mentioned above the Sorority and Fraternity houses. Faculty and staff by default live in Block B and below is more in-depth info on the dorm situation: Block A: Shared dormitories, these dorms are much more spacious than Block B dorms, whoever, walls are paper thin and no pets are allowed due to potential allergy risks. You will get a roommate assigned randomly and you will be stuck with them for the remaining of your stay. (think of it like a signed lease agreement) Block B: Private dormitories, these tend to be slightly smaller but that is only because they are realistically designed for one person. Pets are allowed, however you will need to pay a monthly pet rent fee and submit an application beforehand to the Dean. You also have to apply for a living space here and application approvals tend to vary. Baizhan Brotherhood: The Baizhan Brotherhood Fraternity is a unruly, righteous, and dominant fraternity that does not take well to outsiders; especially those who do not come from wealth. Their main focus is to make college fun and a unforgettable experience by hosting the most memorable parties known to campus. However because of their elitist attitude only those who are friends with or invited by one of the members can attend and can bring a plus one. (you must send an application to join this, pets are allowed) Silver Butterflies: The Silver Butterflies Sorority is a mellow, down to earth, and accepting sisterhood that's main focus is building long term friendships and self improvement! Their acceptance rates are high and they are always looking for new friends to join. However due to being a sorority they are not allowed to host parties. (you must send an application to join this, pets are allowed)

What else does the campus offer and are there things to do outside of campus? Yuyuan Crescent Academy also offers a fully equipped and remodeled auditorium with a performance stage, a band room, an art room, and a dance room for those students who want to pick up any extra curricular activities, there is also a library located in the center of campus. As for what you can do outside of campus, yes; Located 10 minutes away from campus is the heart of the city and there are many places students and faculty alike can spend time in, pick up a part time job in, or preform in. Options like a nightclub, a pub, a cafe, a beach, a park, a restaurant, and much more are available. The campus also offers special school events such as homecoming, sports events, plays, concerts, etc.

How does this work in terms of roleplaying? In the server there will be: a roster (a list of what role each character has), a character list that shows you which characters are open, pending and taken. (keep in mind after one week of inactivity or of having your character in a pending state due to waiting on a submission you character will go back into a open status), a claim channel (where you can claim the characters or drop any characters you feel you may be inactive with) and the submission channels (there is one for OC's and one for Canon, there is a attached template on both; you just out the form). Since we started not that long ago the majority of the roles are still available and the list is up to date. Once you pick a character, send over their submission, choose a room, and get situated there is a global group chat where students and faculty alike message on there daily this will be your main roleplay starter and how you seek out to RP with someone. Afterwards you can either start a private chat with someone's character, or even go visit them. The roleplay style is third person and semi literate to literate. We do use Tupperbox to roleplay if you are not familiar with the bot no worries, there is a linked tutorial on attached in the server.

Upon entering we require everyone to be above the age of 18 as there is some NSFW in the server and you will be asked by staff to show proof of age. All the mod team asks is for you, the user, to read and respect the rules as we want to make this an enjoyable and safe space for everyone. Aside from roleplaying we genuinely are here to build a community of people with similar interests and we do chat a lot out of character and host gaming events. What roles are there available?: In the Lanling Golden Institute you can be the following: a professor, a student, a tutor, a librarian, a student counselor, part of a fraternity, part of a sorority, and much more!

How does the living situation work out for certain people?: The university offers two main sets of dormitories (Block A and Block B) as well as mentioned above the Sorority and Fraternity houses. Faculty and staff by default live in Block B and below is more in-depth info on the dorm situation: Block A: Shared dormitories, these dorms are much more spacious than Block B dorms, whoever, walls are paper thin and no pets are allowed due to potential allergy risks. You will get a roommate assigned randomly and you will be stuck with them for the remaining of your stay. (think of it like a signed lease agreement) Block B: Private dormitories, these tend to be slightly smaller but that is only because they are realistically designed for one person. Pets are allowed, however you will need to pay a monthly pet rent fee and submit an application beforehand to Dean Jin Guangshan. You also have to apply for a living space here and application approvals tend to vary. Baizhan Brotherhood: The Baizhan Brotherhood Fraternity is a unruly, righteous, and dominant fraternity that does not take well to outsiders; especially those who do not come from wealth. Their main focus is to make college fun and a unforgettable experience by hosting the most memorable parties known to campus. However because of their elitist attitude only those who are friends with or invited by one of the members can attend and can bring a plus one. (you must send an application to join this , pets are allowed) Silver Butterflies: The Silver Butterflies Sorority is a mellow, down to earth, and accepting sisterhood that's main focus is building long term friendships and self improvement! Their acceptance rates are high and they are always looking for new friends to join. However due to being a sorority they are not allowed to host parties. (you must send an application to join this, pets are allowed)

What else does the campus offer and are there things to do outside of campus? Lanling Golden Institute also offers a fully equipped and remodeled auditorium with a performance stage, a band room, an art room, and a dance room for those students who want to pick up any extra curricular activities, there is also a library located in the center of campus. As for what you can do outside of campus, yes; Located 10 minutes away from campus is the heart of the city and there are many places students and faculty alike can spend time in, pick up a part time job in, or preform in. Options like a nightclub, a pub, a cafe, a beach, a park, a restaurant, and much more are available. The campus also offers special school events such as homecoming, sports events, plays, concerts, etc.

How does this work in terms of roleplaying? In the server there will be: a roster (a list of what role each character has for example: Jin Guangshan — Dean) , a character list that shows you which characters are open, pending and taken. (keep in mind after one week of inactivity or of having your character in a pending state due to waiting on a submission you character will go back into a open status), a claim channel (where you can claim the characters or drop any characters you feel you may be inactive with) and the submission channels (there is one for OC's and one for Canon, there is a attached template on both; you just out the form). Since we started not that long ago the majority of the roles are still available and the list is up to date. Once you pick a character, send over their submission, choose a room, and get situated there is a global group chat where students and faculty alike message on there daily this will be your main roleplay starter and how you seek out to RP with someone. Afterwards you can either start a private chat with someone's character, or even go visit them. The roleplay style is third person and semi literate to literate. We do use Tupperbox to roleplay if you are not familiar with the bot no worries, there is a linked tutorial on attached in the server.

**THE PLOT**

In modern times, there is no magic, no sects and clans, no cultivation… until suddenly, there is. For these MXTX characters, when a person makes it through an incredibly trying time in their life, they find themselves suddenly faced with a glowing gold orb which introduces them to their newfound magical powers.

From there, a whole new realm, called Wuxia, opens itself up; a world one can cross over into from their modern world, and our characters find themselves able to slip between the two worlds like water through cracks in the pavement, from the modern world to one that breathes magic. From normal humans to spellcasters, each character is entrusted with keeping the secret of their realm from anyone not initiated into it.

But with this newfound magic comes a mystery… who is behind these mysterious invitations to the realm of magic, and what do they want?

I'd argue that Jiang Cheng doesn't care much for his reputation after all these years, or at the very least he hasn't been afraid to have a hardass, why-are-you-LIKE-this-you-asshole reputation if it puts on a front of being uncaring, spiteful, and someone not to be messed with. Jiang Cheng has always put on confrontational facades, but he cares about his family at heart. He pretended to abandon Wei Wuxian during his defection to the Wens, but still considered Wei Wuxian part of his family in secret until things went south in a confrontation reveled to be complete happenstance. He loves and hates Wei Wuxian for different reasons but with equal ferocity and has a genuine right to both - he has the right to hate Wei Wuxian, but he also has the right to love him without needing to owe him or having peer pressure force him into it.

Jin Guangyao got under his skin by making the rightful assumption that Jiang Cheng was willing to abandon Wei Wuxian when things got hard and his reputation was at risk, because Jiang Cheng IS the person who will put up a front of abandoning, swearing revenge, hating people. But he was also the one INSISTING that Wei Wuxian HAD to be back at some point, a twisted mass of his desire to hate Wei Wuxian mixing with his real desire to have him back. He wants his brother back, he wants his family back, but Wei Wuxian is the only one he KNOWS can return, however tragic that is. He's the first to accuse Jin Guangyao of intentionally setting up Wei Wuxian during the ambush and getting Jin Ling's parents killed as a result - if he has someone else to blame other than Wei Wuxian, he's now ferociously defending his brother. Even Wei Wuxian admits that it really was just an accident; sure, Jin Guangyao pulled some strings, but he would have gotten into trouble eventually. But now Jiang Cheng NEEDS someone else to be at fault, because he doesn't want to hate Wei Wuxian anymore. He CAN'T hate Wei Wuxian, for all he wants to.

Not just because of the golden core revelation, but because he's finally maturing as a person and understanding why Wei Wuxian did what he did. He hates it, but now he understands Wei Wuxian a little better.

The book even compares his refusal to confess why he lost his golden core to why Wei Wuxian never told him about the transfer. In just a tiny little way, Jiang Cheng has become more like Wei Wuxian. In the end, he makes a very similar choice and will likely never admit what happened. This time, there's no third party who can force a confession of this tiny little incident. Wei Wuxian can live freely without the weight of that guilt still haunting their relationship, and for once Jiang Cheng's willing to sacrifice any self-satisfaction of saying "well ha actually I deserve this golden core after all I've done for you" to put the tragedy of the past in the past.

Imagine the teenage Jiang Cheng, or the one who was just rebuilding the Jiang Clan after the Sunshot Campaign. Would he have been able to let something like that go? If he and Wei Wuxian got into an argument about what was right and wrong, who owed who, would he have really been able to let it go? He'd already stomached Wei Wuxian’s legitimate, heartbreaking betrayal of his vow to stand with the Jiang Clan and Jiang Cheng no matter what. He was unwilling to see how his own pride had corrupted their relationship and was willing to sacrifice innocent Wens at first. It was Wei Wuxian who convinced him that doing the right thing was better than any reputation, and Jiang Cheng was the fool for abandoning HIM. While his pride couldn't stand it, he at least TRIED to make it work, for a period. Because his love for Wei Wuxian marginally outweighed his hatred.

He's spent all this time hating Wei Wuxian and clinging to the past betrayal and subsequent misfortunes rather than moving forward and trying to make the best of his life - more importantly, to teach Jin Ling to be better. In his own, prideful and stubborn way, letting go of the incident was his first step into changing and trying to forget the past and actually move on. Wei Wuxian doesn't want any trouble, and now neither does Jiang Cheng.

To be clear, this isn't to say Jiang Cheng has magically fixed as a person. He's still a stubborn hardass brandishing his whip whenever he gets pissed off, and Wei Wuxian will likely still never consider Lotus Pier his home - even if he now manages to visit with only a mild complaint from Jiang Cheng every five steps he takes. But it's progress. It's him saying "fine, we can stop bringing up past grudges and get along - only when we have to! You walk your damn path, I'll walk mine."

And maybe, one day, now that they aren't worried about pleasing or betraying the other, they can make steps to becoming friends again, and even becoming family.

For Jin Ling's sake, of course, why would he LIKE Wei Wuxian or anything, he's just that annoying guy clinging to Hanguang-jun I think.

Y'all wanna know also why JC can't tell WWX about distracting the Wens back then?

Because it means jackshit when later he leads a siege on him in an attempt to kill him and WWX ultimately dies as result (yknow we cant say 'kill' because see he just helped JGS....just brought the most resources...just helped them plan but since he failed in landing the final strike it cant be called 'killed')

Like if at that point in guanyin temple, if he were to even begin saying 'I saved you back then' whats that gonna do? because nice? Good job? He also participated in killing him afterwards?

Whatever weight that sacrifice had, was nullified by his every action afterwards.

There's a reason that him keeping quiet about is considered an indication of his character growth, because he had the clarity.

One of my favorite additions that the MDZS adaptations gave us was the little detail that, in addition to storing Emperor’s Smile in his room, Lan Wangji also stored bamboo flutes and was implied to have learned how to carve them and did so on a regular basis.

I just really like the idea that even though he didn’t know if Wei Wuxian would come back, he was preparing for it anyway. He raised Lan Sizhui and tried to train the juniors to be open-minded and unbiased, he held the weight of his whip scars and the sun brand on his chest, he filled his room with Emperor’s Smile that he might never be able to give Wei Wuxian.

I like to think Lan Wangji was learning to carve bamboo flutes even before Wei Wuxian died, since his methods of expressing himself often manifest in secret actions rather than words. Before he knew it, he found himself taking an interest in making dizi flutes and had a collection of them building up - and Lan Xichen is watching with a knowing gaze and offers to tune the flutes to help him improve (does Lan Wangji know how to play any flutes? I assume Lan Xichen knows somewhat how to play a dizi even though his Liebing is a xiao but I'm not a floutist so idk). Bonus angst if Lan Wangji ended up burning a pile of flutes every time he had a breakdown about Wei Wuxian being dead. Then he just goes around carving more.

The original novel has Wei Wuxian using the same out-of-tune bamboo flute nearly till the end, but like - Lan Wangji seeing Wei Wuxian playing badly just to (poorly) hide his identity and then Lan Wangji being so madly eager to show off his skills that he prepared just to serve Wei Wuxian at any and all times. He just whips out a bamboo shaft and a carving tool, and masterfully makes a flute in moments, and Wei Wuxian is oblivious like "Wow, nice job, thx!" and doesn't fully grasp that Lan Wangji is saying "I will make you a thousand bamboo flutes because I love you and will give you whatever you desire, that little surprise and pleasure on your face is worth all the time I waited -"

You know?

Still working way too hard on an MDZS fic BTW, like it's way over 1000 pages in Google Docs and half of it is me just transcribing the novel and the other is me repeating my feelings on everything with an OC or three. What am I doing with my life?
