OH MAN I'm so glad you got inspired by my sleepy KH doodles, I absolutely don't mind anyone doing that. A tooth gap for Sora is so in-character, I'm glad you combined it with the crooked smile-- he definitely would have got a tooth banged out at some point playing island games with Riku and Kairi
I def consider Xion and Vanitas to be "Sortas"! (never heard that term for the Sora look-alikes but I love it haha)--- I actually drew them also! and Xion had a little tooth gap! :0 I was kinda nervous to post them on their own, especially cause they didnt quite turn out how I wanted-- but just for you I will ^-^

I wanted to try tackling the differences between the Sora lookalikes. Riku is also there as his emotional support boyfriend.

Roxas is Sora’s edgy doppelgänger but also looks exactly like Ventus, a completely different person who is like. Bluetooth connected to Sora’s heart /j
I headcanon that Roxas has frosted tips while Ventus is pure blond, and Roxas inherited Sora's imperfect teeth but has a shyer smile. He is not happy here unfortunately
Although were worlds apart, our hearts will always be connected.

so i'm not entirely sure how to articulate this well but i was thinking about the ending of kingdom hearts 3 (as you do) and remembered something
okay so, this scene
chirithy is talking about losing powers, specifically the power of waking, which sora brushes off until he's told he'll disappear,
only to be himself and keep going to save kairi despite the (multiple) warnings
he's truly selfless to a fault for his friends
but he considers himself worthless without them, and is willing to sacrifice his very being for their sake, and even seems okay with it if it means they'll be okay
he so dependent on his friends and the people around him he can't see himself in a good light and seems to truly believe what he says in those screenshots
this mindset can even be seen beginning in kingdom hearts 1, when riku takes the keyblade and sora falls to his hands and knees, despondent. only to then be abandoned by donald and goofy, the two constants in his journey
and when sora does get the keyblade back, it's after his speech on all the people he's met and how his friends are his power
it's super cheesy and i love it and in the context of the first game it's perfectly fine, but taking in the context of the rest of the series, this seems to be the beginning of his unhealthy dependency on his friends
anyways i love sora so much but i also hope he has a segment in kingdom hearts 4 where he's completely alone, even away from strelitzia, so we can explore this part of his character more.

A character who is so broken inside and wrought with turmoil, but they cannot let the mask slip lest everything that depends on them being alright crumbles around them
trapped in an emotional prison of their own making.
imagining riku's parents get sora his own mattress to set up on the floor(they try to get him a bed frame too but he refuses, he can just hide under riku's bed after all :]) and he turns it into a mountain of blankets and pillows to burrow into ❤️
or alternatively, he creates a blanket and pillow den under riku's bed so now he's safe from prying eyes AND comfy :D
rediscovered your monster sora au and i have been having so many thoughts about it since, especially after reading the fics.
which makes me have to wonder "what is his living situation like later on?", like do sora and riku live together? does sora stay hiding from everyone else? do riku's parents learn about him? do any of the other children learn about him?
sorry for rambling i'm just absolutely in love with the concept. (very tempted to write something of this au >_>)
So, eventually Riku’s parents find out. And once they get over the shock of discovering what is essentially an alien in their son’s room, Sora becomes part of the family. He sleeps in Riku’s room <3
I’m still not sure if the rest of the island would ever find out (it would have to be after Kairi arrives), but Kairi definitely does (as Riku and Sora’s little kid brains are like “she’s also from another world maybe she knows Sora’s?”) and I think a friend of Riku’s mom finds out too? (With her being what would have been Sora’s mom if he wasn’t a monster. And she finds out cuz Sora gets super sick at one point and she’s like, a doctor or something)
And then eventually it just starts up with kh1
