I always forget I can post fics onto Tumblr. Anyway, have these two (both Taishen-centric for some reason)
(Spoilers for episodes 14/15-ish of Icebound, it diverges from canon but there's still some spoilers)
AO3 Summary: "Ever since he messed up only a night or so ago by not keeping an eye on that child and falling asleep when he was supposed to be on watch, Taishen was struggling to find ways to make it up to them. It weighed on the back of his mind endlessly, repeating the disappointed statements of his friends' and his own regrets.
Now, however, Taishen realized he had a decision to make, and it wasn’t a difficult one anymore (not that it would have been before). His eyes were keenly watching the action, and could tell when a magical attack was about to strike, headed right for a distracted Skrimm.
He could make up for his mistake here and now. (Even if he almost dies in the process)"
In which I felt bad for Taishen having tried his best to save this child - the one job he was given while they were gone - and then his friends return and basically tell him what a bad job he did and he just forgets that he even tried and so I wanted to do something about it.
Implied character death, but it's temporary
(Spoilers for 27/28 of Icebound, but it diverts very quickly and changes nothing)
AO3 Summary: "It’d barely been 30 minutes since they’d come to a decision. Jornir had left with Skrimm and Queenie after seeing something in his vision that he hadn’t elaborated on. Whatever it’d been, it had urged him to join them - though he’d been insistent on Taishen and especially Barnabos staying behind. And Taishen was more than alright with that. He was no medicine man like Jornir was, but he at least wanted to stick around to make sure that Barnabos was alright."
Aka, I needed an excuse to write about Barnabos and Taishen and so I wrote this for some reason. (Featuring more unnecessary canon divergence that changes nothing and is just for plot convenience!)
THis was a request!! will edit when find the name of person who requested lol. this has been near done for a long while but its finally done <3

The adventure is over, but sometimes its hard to adjust to regular life after a tragic tale.
Good thing Jornir is there to comfort him.
--
It had taken a while to readjust to life outside of the cold arctic of Drakkar.
The abundance of food and warmth had been the first thing they had to get used to once again, the group had gotten so used to huddling with one another, holding tightly to their small group as they struggled against the cold. The first night on the ship they all laid beside one another, curling in tight as theyu always had.
The second night Skrimm had grouped off with Daisy and Barnabos. The third, only Taishen remained in the original room, the cold quiet lull of the ship trying to sing him to sleep with no success. He found the empty bed around him to be almost terrifying, the cold creeping into his bones once again as he looked at the empty hull around him.
By day four, he had gotten little sleep thus far, his mind racing each time he attempted to sleep through the long nights on the sea. The morning of day five he drank down black tea like it was his life line, giving short smiles to all the fellow crewmates that greated him in kind, passing by him as he cleaned the room he had been staying in.

Obligatory disclaimer that southern accents vary significantly, and I can speak on a general Texas accent. Also, this is nit-picky, so don’t take it too seriously. Mostly just “hey here’s some fun ways to make your writing more realistic.”
1) Most people writing a southern accent love to use “ain’t” and “y’all”. Great start, but when those terms are surrounded by non-contracted words, it starts to lose the accent (and look a little funky). Think “how’re y’all doing” rather than “how are y’all doing.”
1.5) “Ain’t” is often paired with “nothin’”. “There ain’t nothin’ wrong with that” vs. “There isn’t anything wrong with that.”
2) Southern accents don’t only drop the last letter on -ing. “Something” becoming “somethin’” is definitely accurate, but I also hear a lot of “around” becoming “‘round” and similar things.
2.5) On a slightly related note, if you’re doing a southern accent, keep in mind that the way someone writes out words “in a southern accent” does not always reflect how it would be pronounced. “Somethin’” is nice short-hand for “oh this is dropping off that sound at the end,” but I usually hear it pronounced like “suh-mn” (which is unreadable and bad for writing). I don’t even have a strong accent, and I do this.
3) There’s a lot of jargon! I’m not sure if this is specific to my region or more general, but a common one I hear a lot is “fixin’ to” as a substitute for “going to.” Like “I’m fixin’ to start dinner” rather than “I’m going to start dinner.” In addition, theres a whole world of fun southern terms and phrases (big fan of “oh, bless his heart” as a patronizing, fake nicety). Lots of fun church-themed and farm-themed terms and turns of phrase.
4) “Y’all” is a super common gender-neutral term, but “folks” is used equally in my experience. I’ve heard it used to refer to family (“his folks” to mean “his parents”), to refer to specific communities (“those folks—“), or just as a general substitute for “people” (“folks these days—“).
5) “Howdy!” is severely underused in writing! It’s super common around where I live, and it’s just used as a greeting.
Go forth and have fun!
mayhaps do you know or remember anything about how to find that 'Clark as a nanny/au pair for the Waynes' au? It sounds fantastic 🩷
