Ya cuz you're actually researching what you want and like. You can be casually searching about Achilles and then you find out he fucking had a transfem lesbian relationship with a nymph.

Hello I just realized that I never really introduced myself! So hello, My name is Tyler and I go by He/they pronouns. I am transgender and gay and I am also a minor. Some things I like are Greek Mythology, General history, floriography, FNaF, Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss, DnD, and Marvel/DC. Some of my skills include sewing (sometimes), writing, baking, making soap, and cooking. I probably will only be putting things about Floriography, Greek Mythology, history, baking, eventually some of my soaps, and maybe some of my sewing projects. My favorite musical artists are Penelope Scott, Pentatonix, Madilyn Mei, Chappell Roan, Melanie Martinez, Cavetown, and Beetlebug. I enjoy fictional books mostly but I also will sometimes read nonfiction books, they just don’t typically grab my attention as much. My friends and I keep a collection of quotes and I might share some of them here, with peoples permission of course. I’ll also probably share some funny moments from the DnD campaigns that I am in. I am here for anyone who needs a friend to talk to, especially after the 2024 elections, so please feel free to reach out if you ever need support! That’s all about me, I hope you have a lovely day/afternoon/night.

  Nada. Allí no quedaba nada.

Hello Tumblr. I have a question for all history enjoyers out there :)

((by history enjoyers I also mean people that are in any fandoms related to history))

beware! yapping session ahead ↓

So I've been to many fandoms, and recently, many of them have had a big connection to history. I've become interested in it since I joined the Countryhumans fandom (I know, problematic, but I'm out of that phase), and I always focused more on the historical side of the community. I found it interesting how those personifications of countries can describe different moments of history in different ways, and ever since then I started thinking about these historical moments not as just a random event that happened in the past, but as something that REALLY happened, as something that real people FELT and LIVED through, and as something that can serve as a reason of why we act like we do now.

As a part of all these historical fandoms, I realized that most of the communities know a LOT more stuff than I do about history, and for that I blame the incredible education system in my country. They focus too much on the history of the country itself, and when we started learning world history in 7th grade, it felt very... summarized. Heck, our history class doesn't even last a year, it lasts one semester out of the three. We didn't learn about the important Pharaohs in Egypt, we didn't learn about the important wars in Ancient Greece, we didn't even talk about the Roman Empire.

So my main question was:

Did any of you historians learn most of your history from school? Or did you have to learn everything yourself?

Side note: I'm on Easter holidays right now, and I plan to make a real big file with the detailed information for any historical happenings that I think are important to know :)

@vasyandii Thanks for bringing light to that person’s actions. Now let me throw some more in.

Watermelon and fried chicken, why is it offensive to black people?

Popular and Pervasive Stereotypes of African Americans
National Museum of African American History and Culture
Stereotypes of African Americans grew as a natural consequence of both scientific racism and legal challenges to both their personhood and c

(Read this to learn about more harmful black stereotypes)

Watermelon and fried chicken was once a staple of income for the freed post civil war. Black farmers wanting to earn money , grew watermelon. It was actually very popular to the point a certain group of people didn’t like that.

Watermelon also wasn’t just something for us to sell. It was a sign of liberty and freedom for us.

______________________________________________

Chicken , chicken was the only livestock slaves could keep or own. Another source of income that eventually was stolen. You know that iconic restaurant KFC is a good example of this. (Search up the origins of the KFC recipe.)

Another item painted in a negative light, and used against us to justify hatred and dehumanization.

(Read this to see the full extent of how this can affect someone of color and more history.)

amp.theguardian.com
It should be a source of pride for black people. It’s complicated, though …

We have slowly started taking back a lot of things, but with the way these once liberated items been painted to stain. Shame only follows us.

It had never once graced my little head, growing up in the south. Eating these foods with joy that they made me into something others looked down upon.

I was just a child , enjoying food that was made/grown by the people I loved. I love my family, and I love my community.

Thank you all for reading this , and remember to do research and ask. It will not hurt your pride to ask someone of color if what you created/wrote is harmful in any way.

We will not be upset with you for asking us questions regarding our history. But we will , if you intentionally ignore the struggles and causes.

Plus , some aren’t always willing to share their experiences/history. Respect that decision too. We don’t owe anyone anything if we don’t feel like your intentions aren’t great.

Circus Olympus

Ok, thats the prototype of a history I’m creating.

I like circus, I like Greek mitology, why not fuse both?! It’s pretty simple for now, a circus that takes place in the 20s /30s,where the artist named themselves after the Greek gods.

But names hold power, they’re clearly not the real Greek deity’s, but for using their names, they also get their personality, their fates are adapted to retelling of the original myth .

( Thats just an excuse to draw Apollo in a trapeze artist clothe)

Hæl og sæl, my pals, and happy Saint Patrick's Day! An unusual situation when I post something which is non-art, is not it?

I am frankly not religious. I do not believe in God, saints, Satan and further. However, I respect the holidays, whatever it may be. So, today I began to read (but also to make my notes) Dáithí Ó hÓgáin, The Celts: A Chronological History.

I actually know the information was given there is not that fresh, but all of you can read it as an introduction to the history of Celts.

I am glad that I have a Ukrainian book on this topic at least.
