This Kid by Levi Robinheart [lyrics]

This Kid By Levi Robinheart [lyrics]

‘nd someday I’ll fall asleep, ‘nd I’ll wake up flyin’ ‘nd maybe you will get to see what I look like these days, I don’t get too far on prayin’ on a shootin’ star that I might be ‘nd maybe I won’t dream when I fall asleep, ‘nd I won’t think of the kid I oughta be layin’ on the floor you get closer to the end it’s sure ‘nd I don’t forget how I made you feel wrong, how I gave you all that grief, and how I made you leave take my blood ‘nd take my brains, you know what to do, I just need a little bit o’ space you said “it’s alright”, is it though? ‘cause the heart don’t lie ‘nd mine gets a little bit cold

I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore

You’ve got a silver necklace ‘nd I wanna know, do you see me or do you see the hair on my bones? How do I show ‘nd make up for the kid in the club who didn’t know they was better off alone Each day I eat my weight in self-hate, ‘nd each night I curse myself to sleep ‘Nd if we ever meet, I hope you see that I wanna die with my heart empty

I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore

I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore I don’t wanna be this kid anymore

No, no more

Hybrid Driving-Flying Robots Could Go Beyond the Flying Car

Whether they're swooping in to deliver packages or spotting victims in disaster zones, swarms of flying robots could have a range of important applications in the future, a new study found. The robots can transition from driving to flying without colliding with each other and could offer benefits beyond the traditional flying-car concepts of sci-fi lore, the study said.

The ability to both fly and walk is common in nature. For instance, many birds, insects and other animals can do both.

Robots with similar versatility could fly over impediments on the ground or drive under overhead obstacles. But currently, robots that are good at one mode of transportation are usually bad at others, study lead author Brandon Araki, a roboticist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and his colleagues said in their new study. The researchers previously developed a robot named the "flying monkey" that could run and fly, as well as grasp items. However, the researchers had to program the paths the flying monkey would take; in other words, it could not find safe routes by itself. Now, these scientists have developed flying cars that can both fly and drive through a simulated city-like setting that has parking spots, landing pads and no-fly zones. Moreover, these drones can move autonomously without colliding with each other, the researchers said. "Our vehicles can find their own safe paths," Araki told Live Science. The researchers took eight four-rotor "quadcopter" drones and put two small motors with wheels on the bottom of each drone, to make them capable of driving. In simulations, the robots could fly for about 295 feet (90 meters) or drive for 826 feet (252 meters) before their batteries ran out.The roboticists developed algorithms that ensured the robots did not collide with one another. In tests in a miniature town made using everyday materials such as pieces of fabric for roads and cardboard boxes for buildings, all drones successfully navigated from a starting point to an ending point on collision-free paths.Adding the driving apparatus to each drone added weight and so slightly reduced battery life, decreasing the maximum distances the drones could fly by about 14 percent, the researchers said. Still, the scientists noted that driving remained more efficient than flying, offsetting the relatively small loss in efficiency in flying due to the added weight."The most important implication of our research is that vehicles that combine flying and driving have the potential to be both much more efficient and much more useful than vehicles that can only drive or only fly," Araki said. The scientists cautioned that fleets of automated flying taxis are likely not coming anytime soon. "Our current system of drones certainly isn't robust enough to actually carry people right now," Araki said. Still, these experiments with quadcopters help explore "various ideas related to flying cars," he said. The scientists detailed their findings on June 1 at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' International Conference on Robotics and Automation in Singapore.

I Know It Doesn't Really Fit With My Blog But I Really Liked This Picture I Took While Riding In An Old

I know it doesn't really fit with my blog but I really liked this picture I took while riding in an old WWII torpedo bomber that was flying in formation with a B-25J Mitchell. Thought maybe someone else would like to see it too

Just got of the plane. I could not stop looking at what the guy next to me had between his legs. It was amazing. Sometimes his legs were blocking it so I couldn't see it, but I still tried to peek. Even got a picture:

A pug with a white hairs on the snout. The dog is on a plane in a dog bag, between two legs

Obviously a little old with the white hairs, but still a very good boy. Got through the entire flight without moving or even making a sound. I really wanted to pet him, but didn't because of my allergies :(

Intern Week 9: Flying With An Astronaut

Intern Week 9: Flying With An Astronaut

T-38 Simulator To get ready for intensive piloting into space astronauts train on the Northrop T-38 Talon, the first supersonic two seated trainer. I hear astronauts flying through the air in the T-38s every morning around Johnson Space Center. Before you can even think of piloting, it's essential to fly in a simulator to get use to the controls and indicators. I had the gracious opportunity to fly in the T-38 simulator with Astronaut Gregory C Johnson. With myself in the front of the tandem simulator and Johnson in the back (often entering God commands) I preformed rolls, buzzed the landing strip, and attempted a loop d' loop. I did enjoy flying in the simulation and would consider finding a flight simulator on Steam and hooking up my Logitech controller for practice.

Truth About The Russian Agreement Following the $490 million dollar deal NASA made with Russia to continue to use Soyuz, many are expressing concern about sending money overseas. This week Johnson Space Center Director Ellen Ochoa and Deputy Director Kirk Shireman spoke with us interns sharing career advice, illustrating their vision for the future of NASA and addressing this concern. Ochoa shared, while we are currently dependent on Russia for human transport to the International Space Station (ISS) NASA has assigned SpaceX and Boeing the task to transport astronauts from NASA to space from American soil. We are still purchasing seats on Soyuz because there must be overlap. While troubleshooting launching our own transport vehicles we must ensure there is still a way to get astronauts to the ISS. Reflecting on all the science that has been done on the ISS - the collaboration between the United States and Russia has propelled space flight into the future and expanded exploration. Shireman noted that although the United States will create a transport vehicle the partnership with Russia and other nations will continue. Shireman shared that the European Space Agency (ESA) is creating Orion's Service Vehicle after their experience with solar panels on the ISS. In the future Shireman sees many nations apart of the journey to Mars. What I took from this lecture is that it takes a planet to get to another planet.

Flight Director Wisdom Astronaut Michael Fossum and Flight Director Royce Renfrew shared career and life wisdom to interns and Co-Ops. A question I find helpful during my transitional time as a college student is - What would you tell your twenty year old self? Fossum shared that you should chase after what you desire to do, if you want to pursue a particular career find someone who got there and ask for advice. In respect to becoming an astronaut do not just check items off a list of skills and experiences you think astronauts should have, people have ruined their lives doing that. I asked Renfrew what key characteristic that an aspiring flight director should have. Renfrew mentioned this concept of having, Command Presence, meaning when you step into a room everyone knows the meeting is about to start. This presence doesn't necessarily have to do with your personality, how tall you are or how old you are. It is a very ambiguously defined characteristic but apparent when someone has it.

Intern Update This week I was primarily finishing documentation on my displays, writing my abstract, practicing my intern accomplishment summary presentation and creating a simple low fidelity interface the audio system can be tested with.

Living life to the bare,

Never realising

I ain’t taking in enough air

To stoned to care

Feeling high as that airplane

In a desert island

Chillin to the beat of

Natures sound

Everyone around

Me is just

Blurring

The flowers keep turning

In amazing circles .

While the fairies are dancing

To my pretty foot sound.

The trees are sucking

From the ground .

The Bees are to busy

To see the flowers are running

Around .

The worms dig hard

But wiggle out the earth

Into it’s next survivors mouth .

The mud is moving

If I lay still enough

I’m sure I will feel it

Pretty things flying around.
