I appreciate dungeon meshi for not being weird about Chilchuck. I think this show is one of the few examples of the "young looking adult" trope done in a way that's funny and entertaining (and not obvious uncomfortable creepazoid feed like what most anime does). Making a jaded 50yo man with a wife and kids constantly be perceived as being like 14 is objectively funny.

sauur i watched the first ep of dunmeshi
few bullets points:
went into the show with zero expectation and somehow dunmeshi defies all of it
SO IT WAS ABOUT FOOD

I was pleasantly surprise honestly with the character writing of the show. They narrowly follow their tropes but that's where correlation ends there. Every character has their little moment that showcase their rich personality very well (laios creeping everyone out, marcille throwing a tantrum).
But like its actually a cooking show im so shocked.
