Remembering That Time The Soviets Pulled A 1:1 Recreation Of A B-29 (pictured) Out Of Their Asses, Slapped

Remembering that time the Soviets pulled a 1:1 recreation of a B-29 (pictured) out of their asses, slapped a red star on it and called it the TU-4.

As far as I understand, they seemingly did this by attempting to make it a 1:1 replica, even when they had specific technologies or building techniques that were superior.

The Soviet Union also had to reverse engineer it from near scratch, as even the thickness of the Hull had to be figured out (America used imperial whereas everyone else used metric), and the very best thing about it is that their main motivation to do all this was to show the Americans that they had the ability to drop a nuke (which, mind you, they had just barely invented), with the whole 'we engineered your $60 billion dollar plane in two years" aspect merely being a bonus.

They made the plane as close as possible to prove to the US that they had a bomber that could attack the mainland, because that was easier than making a new design and proving what they wanted to prove.

The Industrial Revolution of the 1800s saw a boom in manufacturing and technological achievement. Products as diverse as car parts to cleaning supplies were being assembled, built, woven, or otherwise created on a scale never before seen. But this renaissance required workers - lots of them. In capitalist countries in the West, business tycoons made profit off of the cheap labor of thousands of men, women and children. Most of them worked up to 16 hours a day, in insanely dangerous conditions. But where there is oppression there is resistance, and in the 1880s, worker’s unions across the United States began to fight for their rights.

Many members of the movement at this time were communists and anarchists, who believed that the capitalist system exploited members of the working class. They demonstrated for an 8-hour day, as well as better wages and working conditions.

In 1886, in the first days of May, thousands of Chicago’s working class went on strike.  In Haymarket Square, a meeting of up to 3,000 radicals gathered to protest the conditions they worked in. When the Chicago police came to disperse the demonstrators, someone threw a bomb. At least 8 people died, and more than a hundred were wounded.

Three years later, in commemoration of what was called the Haymarket affair, the International Socialist Conference declared May first an international holiday for the world’s workers. The Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions (now know as the American Federation of Labor) declared that “eight hours shall now constitute a legal day’s labor.”

But the US no longer celebrates Labor Day on May first, or May Day. During the Cold War, May first became associated with the socialist and communist movements that it had been born from. President Eisenhower signed a resolution renaming May Day as ‘Loyalty Day’, a holiday dedicated to American patriotism. We now celebrate Labor Day on September second.

But hey, in recognition of global celebrations and the industrious working class, here’s a shout out to May Day. Equality and vacation days for all!

The President's Red Phone

The President's Red Phone

The Moscow-Washington hotline which existed during the mid-20th-century Cold War was a teletype-based affair, not a telephone, but that didn't stop the imagined concept of a red emergency phone in the White House catching on in popular culture.  One example of this is the Red Phone's starring role in the 1964 film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb; indeed, the film's Spanish title is ¿Teléfono rojo?, volamos hacia Moscú, which means “Red Telephone?  We're Flying to Moscow.”

The iconic “Red Phone” image continues to grip the public imagination today, appearing regularly in fiction, art, and even Presidential campaign ads.

Acrylic on canvas, 5x7″.  From my series of paintings of historical telephones.

I know I should be asleep probably but my brain is stuck on my Codz ocs again but right specifically it's on the Cold War variant of my one 935 oc, Who's name is Darion Lambert in the original timeline but in the Cold War his last name is changed to Leitner due to reasons. And I have been stuck thinking about small hcs for this one thought I had which in general is; Russell Adler 🤝 Dr. Leitner Mysterious face scars that they don't truthfully talk about that's it, that's the thought. If y'all wanna maybe hear the small hcs between these two (or just any hcs in general with my Codz ocs) in my mind feel free to ask me about em I will happily release my brainmelt.

Echo of Humanity

It is never great where creator is oppressed

Where girl is killed in the womb, where aspiration of women are brought to dead.

It is never great where majority dominates minority, where pluralism is not spread.

It is never great when a country plunders another country because it want again to be great.

It is never great when a human kills a human because he belongs to some superior race.

It is never great when peoples are displaced from their homeland and walls at the border is erected

It is never great when childrens are drowned crossing the sea and conscience of civlised is not shaked.

It is never great when a zealot kills an innocent bcause he feels his belief is great.

It is never great when 9 percent of world sleeps hungry and 1 percent have half the world wealth.

It is never great when a person is discriminated on gender, class, caste, colour because he is not dominantly privileged.

It is never great when conscience is at slumber and humanity is poisoned to slow death.

Me and the boy I like are exchanging flowers every day, and it's a totally innocent and fun story for me.

He said he liked lilies and I knew how to make origami ones, so I made one for him and he gave me an origami tulip, which is my favorite flower. On Monday of this week he gave me three tulips and said "I have three tulips in front of you, I win." But I took it personally and the next day I brought him three more lilies.

Now he and I are in a kind of cold war arms race with paper flowers. On Wednesday he brought me 5 flowers with his perfume, the day before yesterday I gave him 10 with my perfume and yesterday I received 11 flowers with his perfume.

We've been home for a week and none of us know what we're going to get when we get to class, It's thrilling and lovely at the same time.

I love this kind of love interaction. It's cute and romantic, and especially because there are no ulterior motives. I recommend having a flower or handmade gift war with the person you love. And yes I will put this in my fanfic with gays because I can and it is romantic and pretty.

Dream big, Madiha. In the meantime, take a look at an old Charles Stross called Missile Gap. Something very strange happens to the Earth in the early 1970s and the Soviet Union builds ekranoplans to explore its new neighborhood. He also has an older story called A Colder War, which has no ekranoplans, but the Great Old Ones are weaponized by the superpowers during the Cold War and Oliver North becomes the death of worlds.

someday im gonna write a battle where ekranoplans are the key to victory
