Dazai X Would've could've, should've (Taylor Swift)

If you would've blinked then I would've

Looked away at the first glance.

If you tasted poison, you could've

Spit me out at the first chance

Dazai X Would've Could've, Should've (Taylor Swift)

If I was some paint, did it splatter

On a promising grown man?

And if I was a child, did it matter

If you got to wash your hands?

Dazai X Would've Could've, Should've (Taylor Swift)

And if you never saved me from boredom

I could've gone on as I was

But, Lord, you made me feel important

And then you tried to erase us

Dazai X Would've Could've, Should've (Taylor Swift)

And the God's honest truth is that the pain was heaven

And now that I'm grown, I'm scared of ghosts

Memories feel like weapons

And now that I know, I wish you'd left me wondering

Dazai X Would've Could've, Should've (Taylor Swift)

God rest my soul, I miss who I used to be

The tomb won't close, stained glass windows in my mind

I regret you all the time

I can't let this go, I fight with you in my sleep

The wound won't close, I keep on waiting for a sign

I regret you all the time

Dazai X Would've Could've, Should've (Taylor Swift)

If clarity's in death, then why won't this die?

Years of tearing down our banners, you and I

Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts

Give me back my childhood (girlhood), it was mine first

Dazai X Would've Could've, Should've (Taylor Swift)
Dazai X Would've Could've, Should've (Taylor Swift)

I regret you all the time

I can't let this go, I fight with you in my sleep

The wound won't close, I keep on waiting for a sign

I regret you all the time

Dazai X Would've Could've, Should've (Taylor Swift)

(ps: NO I am NOT implying any sexual abuse done by Mori to Dazai or anyone else. This is purely about the emotional and mental abuse Dazai went through as a child by being in the Port Mafia under Mori's mentorship. It is clear, him being in the Mafia really messed up his already mentally ill brain. Mori as a doctor should be held responsible for what happened to Dazai and so many other Port Mafia kids, regardless if they worked consensually or not, kids should be protected in all situations from both physical and mental turmoil.

Ofc the original intention of the song by Taylor and what it meant for her and the things she went through is very different, but as a song itself we can interpret certain parts of it in different ways. I do not think the two situations are any similar but it is only an artistic way of looking at these lyrics to convey a difficult subject matter)

I really don't think Akutagawa forgot who Atsushi was. When he said "Who the hell are you?" I think he was referring to how moments ago Atsushi yelled at him that it's no use. Akutagawas number one source of respect for Atsushi comes from that unyielding determination of his, to Akutagawa, it was his number one defining quality. It was what made Atsushi, Atsushi. Now he's seeing that same person yell at how it's no use while Akutagawa now has the capability to fight back, and Atsushi was groveling on the ground in front of Dostoyevsky moments ago. He doesn't feel like the Atsushi we all grew to know and love throughout this whole series. Akutagawa asking that question jot literally, but in the rhetorical "Where has the quality that made you, gone? Who are you without that blinding determination that fights even in futility?" Besides, when I see one of my friends go through a drastic change, I'll jokingly ask them "Well who are you?" to tease them that they changed a lot. So when I read that, I automatically went, "Oh, Akutagawa is seeing how much Atsushi has changed since he left, and that's just how he expressed it." I don't know, with Akutagawas personality, I don't think any effects of vampirism can erase the people around him, at least not entirely. Maybe it made him forget some of their nuances, but the person entirely? Well, I don't think he'd really be Akutagawa anymore. Besides, you can't tell me he'd forget Atsushi when their abilities fought on sight and when Akutagawa died for him. That's a bond no amount of weird ability shenanigans can destroy.

Past me: I love Fyolai!

Fyodor: *Threatens to kill Nikolai and goes on a murderous spree*

Now me: Nooo not the clown! Ok I love Siglai now.

Yo what if Dazai did his whole speech in ch 101 not because he thought he is gonna kill Chuuya or intended to deceive fyodor, but because Dazai thinks he is gonna die.

There were so many good quotes that I could only fit ep 1 😭😭😭😭😭 and there's still some that I left. Some quotes are changed to fit the word limit. Comment/reblog if you have any other quotes or want to include in part 2!!!

⚠️ SPOILERS CHAPTER 113 ⚠️

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

WTF DID I JUST READ? WHAT WAS THAT!

Let me just organise my thoughts:

The old men Yaoi was expected but it still killed me

The last panel was so chilling and traumatic with Aya's cheerful words and Fukuzawa's expression 😭

Why wasn't Fukuzawa holding Fukuchi in his arms????

SIGMA IS ALIVVVEE

WHERE IS NIKOLAI? Did he go to bury Fyodor's hand or smtg?

FYODOR AND BRAM HAVE HISTORY

So that MF is immortal or really really old or smtg

There's NO way an immortal being like Fyodor dies by a helicopter falling on him!

Before dying (allegedly) Fyodor had mentioned "that man" as his rival before Dazai, could it be Bram? 🤔

Bram serving as usual 💅

Sigma looked like Sleeping Beauty (maybe you should have kissed the Princess instead of throwing him down 15 times Chuuya 🙄)

Fyodor has more Jesus allegories

Dazai wasn't in Fukuzawa's thoughts about the ADA..... maybe he is going to transfer to PM and the reason Chuuya was sent to rescue him was because they were going back to Mori together

NO AKUTAGAWA UPDATE (come on this was his birthday week 🥺)

CHUUYA LOST HIS VAMPIRE TEETH AHHH

WTF IS FYODOR? WTH IS GOING ON WITH HIM

I have so many more thoughts but mostly-----I really want to track down Asagiri to ask him wtf is going on here

I can't understand anything

I'll go and watch some yt shorts

This is all too much for my brain to process (I understand Sigma now)

Did I know Nikolai held Fyodor's ripped off arm to his face? Yes. Did I still cry? YES

WTF ASAGIRI WHO HURT YOU?

Forget Fyodor, I want Asagiri's villain origin story to see what made him write trauma like this

I bet he was giggling and kicking his feet when he decided to do this

He knows where it hurts us and he is not afraid to stab us and twist the knife 🙂🙃

Since Yosano is off-limits she won't be considered.

1. Dazai: it makes no narrative sense to make him join the Port Mafia again, when he left at his own accord. The reason he left and changed himself as a person was because of his promise to Oda and him getting back to the Mafia takes all the weight from that promise. We already have a BSD 15 manga that's about Dazai being in the Mafia and the skk shenanigans, we honestly don't need more. Mori seems like he wants Dazai back in the Mafia, in a keep your friends close and your enemies closer fashion. Dazai going back to the Mafia can be interesting, but it's not good for Dazai's character arc. (Still has a chance)

2. Atsushi: since he is the protagonist, it makes the most sense for him to get transferred. Just like how we saw the ins and outs of ADA, we get to see how the current Mafia works on the regular basis. It would be interesting to see his interactions with Mori. We definitely like SSKK team up, now they will be in the same team too (maybe that's why the last scene of S5 they are working together, the transfer already happened). I want Canon Atsushi and Chuuya to interact!!! Their dynamic in Wan gives me so much serotonin.

3. Kunikida: while he can be quite a good asset, his ideals are too important for him to actually do something against it for the PM. He is a bit like Oda in that respect, a Mafia member who won't kill.

4. Ranpo: doesn't have abilities but his smarts is what makes him stand out among the rest of the ADA. But the biggest value in him is that he is practically Fukuzawa's son, someone whom he cares for greatly. Making Ranpo transfer to PM would be a huge slap on the face for Fukuzawa.

5. Junichiro: is the most hinted to actually join the PM. He is also the only ADA member to openly say his abilities could suit the Mafia and he might transfer there if no one else does. It's clear he has quite the violent side to him and the instincts to kill. He could be an interesting addition to the PM, and it paves the way for Tanazaki's backstory. I also wonder if Naomi would join the PM too, or she would stay with the ADA opposing her brother or leave the agency to remain neutral.

6. Kenji: is a highly unlikely choice for the PM. He has a strong ability but his personality isn't simply suited for Mafia. Although it would be funny to watch Kenji change the Mafia's heart and have innocent fun.

7. Kyouka: another ex-mafia member. She is a good choice, as her ability is really strong and good for the mafia. But since she too left (kicked out); her going back doesn't add to her character. While it might seem like Kouyou can influence Mori to take Kyouka back, but she already has accepted that Kyouka should stay in the light and stay away from the Mafia lifestyle (Aku also wants Kyouka to be happy).

Maybe Asagiri pulls another card and makes Fukuzawa transfer so he can complete his old man Yaoi arc with Mori, who knows? (/j)

Why do you think Fyodor chose Chuuya specifically as his accomplice?

Maybe all that time in prison he heard Dazai constantly hyping Chuuya up and gushing about him. He heard about their shenanigans and the amount of trust they had in eachother. Maybe Dazai was just complaining and pouring his heart out about their complicated relationship.

And Fyodor thought it would be funny as hell and so much drama if Dazai gets killed by his own partner.

Dazai: And he didn't even kiss me after I went out of the way to recreate snow white!

Fyodor *fake gasp*: no shit, that's toxic!

Dazai: I know right, we never work it out :(

Fyodor: hey, maybe I could get you guys to meet and talk it all out....

Dazai: you would???

Fyodor, *evil smile* : of course, what else are enemies for?

Dazai: thanks bro, you're the best!

Dazai, in his head: Just as planned, he fell right into the trap or I say.....rat hole......ah that was a bad one

Dazai, in his head: I better call Mori and ask him to get Chibi a hot new outfit, he needs to look good for my confessions.....and the best part is he can't even deny or reject me when he is acting as a vampire...hehe. I should go practice my speeches.

There's no way Rat Man is dead right? He even went out spewing Jesus's line about resurrection.

But I DON'T want Nikolai to be the one who saved Fyodor at the last minute, let it be anyone else (let's say Agatha Christie). Nikolai saving Fyodor will take away all of the emotions of the climax. It was such a sad/heartbreaking moment for Nikolai that Dazai, who always had snide remarks, didn't make a joke about it (probably because he understands Nikolai and would feel the same way if Chuuya died).

If Fyodor survives and is ready for his next villain arc with Agatha, then let him be the one to reveal himself to Nikolai and recruit him....this time not as a pawn but as an ally/friend.

BSD S5 is driving me insane~

I did not expect to cry because of Fyolai and FukuFuku

Why do they have to pair them up and then separate them?

Are we here to fulfil Asagiri's sadistic desires ? 😭

Does he even like us?

"This story is not for people who are good at living"

Bullshit

Then maybe you should think about your fanbase of mentally ill people on copium~

Just sayin'

(ps: at least Skk and sskk reunion happened)

Do people really think that skk hate eachother?

After the fight with Lovecraft, we have a scene where Dazai smiles at Chuuya; this is one of the only genuine smiles we ever get from Dazai. Most of the time he is playing up a facade and he is very hard to read but he always seems to smile more genuinely when he is around Chuuya, especially when Chuuya isn't looking at him.

What I think those two have are very complicated feelings that haven't changed since they were 15-18.

Skk never got to be friends, they were always partners, "Double Black", Port Mafia's prodigies. They didn't get the chance to just be kids and see the better sides of eachother, their relationship didn't grow organically over the years but became stunted at a time when both of them were only teenagers. Thrust in an environment where there's not much positivity, Skk were always at odds because of their clashing personalities and mutual dislike (and their similarities)

I don't think that dislike ever became hate. I think they did become closer as the years passed, but then of course Dazai left.

While saying Chuuya was sad when Dazai left is a way to show their care for eachother. I would say, Chuuya was REALLY angry when Dazai left (that's why he drank that expensive wine, it was out of spite). How can he leave? Does he have no loyalty to the PM? Does he have no loyalty to Chuuya? They were partners, he can't just leave without a word.

Dazai left without a word because he knew how mad Chuuya would be at him when he finds out, he knew if he thought about Chuuya there would be a part of him that wouldn't want to leave this partnership that they have had since three years. It was something that gave him excitement in this "worthless thing they call living" it was his will to live. He also didn't want the PM to think Chuuya was involved with him and helped him in leaving.

I do think Dazai leaving PM made Chuuya dislike him even more. Dazai was not only annoying, he was also disloyal.

But when it comes to Dazai, I don't think he hated Chuuya at all. His fondness for Chuuya is what makes him not want to like him. It's the same way Nikolai wants to kill Fyodor for being the only one who understands him. Dazai doesn't want to kill Chuuya, when he says "I have been thinking about ways to kill Chuuya since 7 years" it's a lie, a joke for him, a facade. He could have done that any time in 7 years but he chose not to. He knows when it comes to it, he can't kill Chuuya.

Chuuya would say he hates Dazai but goes out of his way to save him everytime. In Dead Apple, he risked his own life to save Dazai who could have been dead for all he knew. But he still took the chance, believing that Dazai would have a plan and that he would know that Chuuya is going to risk it. (Also I wholeheartedly believe Dazai has some fantasies about being rescued by Chuuya, that Mf totally does)

Their trust in eachother is so strong, that even when they are on the enemy side, they are able to work together, putting their differences apart. They have never had a "real" fight like Atsushi and Akutagawa, it's more of snide remarks and calling nicknames, like their teenage selves.

I don't think Chuuya is aware of these complicated feelings, he has manifested his dislike of Dazai's antics and personality to a point he had hidden his care for him. On the other hand, Dazai is very aware of these feelings, he knows he cares. So he fakes it, acting out as usual the idea that he hates Chuuya, because he knows loving and caring for someone does not end well for him (look at Oda). He doesn't want to lose another person he cares for.

In retrospect as memeable and funny those two "confession" scenes are in S5; it's the first time Dazai is not lying, he is acknowledging his care for Chuuya in a way it feels authentic and real to Fyodor, so they could trick him. It's their plan, yes, but the reason it feels real is because IT IS. No wonder Chuuya shot him so many times ("Dazai's being stupid again, making me feel things, embarrassing me in front of the enemy").

This isn't a shipping post, I do ship Skk, but their bond is so deep that you can look at it in a platonic way and very little would change.

Help imagine married sskk 😭

Atsushi: Ryuu honey can you do the dishes

Akutagawa: I already did them last night

Atsushi *with his hands on his hips*: I did not get stabbed by Amenogozen to save you just to have a lazy husband. Now go do the dishes

Like there's not even much of a joke here I just love what married sskk in their happily ever after would be like. They'd be so imperfectly perfect, and also it'd be funny to see them bicker, especially with their pasts

It’s so funny that the three people who canonically find Dazai #relatable are Mori, Fyodor, and Verlaine.

What an insane lineup of horrible men. I think that alone would make me change my entire personality if I were him. First everyone finds him incredibly annoying and then those motherfuckers show up and are like “actually, no, Dazai’s great. He just gets me.” I’d be reconsidering all of my life decisions.

For those of you who may not be too familiar with the manga, during ch39: Portrait of a Father, Akutagawa shows up, as Dazai's informant, to give Atsushi documents about who the orphanage headmaster was and what happened to him.

For Those Of You Who May Not Be Too Familiar With The Manga, During Ch39: Portrait Of A Father, Akutagawa
For Those Of You Who May Not Be Too Familiar With The Manga, During Ch39: Portrait Of A Father, Akutagawa

At that moment, Akutagawa shows an uncharacteristic clemency towards Atsushi, saying that "Atsushi's master died today", and compares this to his own relationship with Dazai.

This was a long time ago now, and a lot has happened since. The Cannibalism arc is right after this, where they are very antagonistic towards each other, and includes this scene:

For Those Of You Who May Not Be Too Familiar With The Manga, During Ch39: Portrait Of A Father, Akutagawa

Akutagawa, despite his bitterness towards Atsushi for who he is to Dazai, has seen how similar they are in this sense. Atsushi hasn't, because his gratefulness towards Dazai prevents him from seeing that Akutagawa's experience was completely different with this same person. (he's also not given any time by the narrative to wonder about it)

but then just came along chapter 122!!!

For Those Of You Who May Not Be Too Familiar With The Manga, During Ch39: Portrait Of A Father, Akutagawa

Atsushi gets to see, 1:1, the relationship between Akutagawa and Dazai. For the first time, Akutagawa is relatable to him.

And of course, at the end, Atsushi calls out the illusion as being the headmaster wearing Dazai's face because we are closing this loop! We are forcing Atsushi to see Akutagawa the same way Akutagawa has been seeing him!

Just saw a comment that said in that moment Akutugawa realised someone thought he deserved to live.

I’m done.

No because… because Akutugawa like Atsushi has always wanted that kind of approval.

And Atsushi may not have died but even he knew it was all a hunch at that point when he pushed Akutugawa aside.

He saved him.

Used his own words against him because back on the boat Akutugawa decided that Atsushi deserved to live.

And now Atsushi’s decided he should too.

The conversation between Atsushi and Dazai in this chapter is so important, because this is clearly not Dazai, at least not the real one. The real Dazai is still in Mersault, almost on the other side of the world, this version that Atsushi is talking to is just the same hallucination from the last chapter, a fragment of Atsushi's subconscious taking the form of someone he trusts, respects and admires to give him the information he needs to move forward, even if it is information that he already knows but does not have enough confidence in himself to follow. The conversation at the end of the chapter is not only about the dimension of Ame-no-Gozen, but also about Atsushi himself and his relationship with his past. In order to reach the core of Ame-no-Gozen, Atsushi must learn to navigate between the past and the future, both in the dimension of the divine being and in his own history. I believe that from this, Atsushi will be able to discover more about the tiger and about his own past, perhaps find out something about his parents, and about his connection with the book and Fyodor, but for that to happen he needs to let himself confront his past, and understand (or accept) his place and role in this world.
