Koré del siglo VI a.C aprox (520-510) de la Acrópolis. Una de las escasas representaciones que existen de esculturas con restos de policromía exhibiendo algunos colores. Realmente espectacular.
i find it so charming that so many ancient civilisations - if not most of them - believed in gods of some sort. like, the world was so inexplicably incredible that, to them, it could be the work of nothing but the divine.
i would love to be able to see the moon through the eyes of some human from thousands of years ago. like, a magic silver orb in the sky that changed shape and colour and moved?? the world must be so much more beautiful when viewed with no context.
Golden mornings and cool sea breezes brought them together.
Playful touches turned to yearnings with depth.
Days passed and love grew.
Until one day a shadow came uninvited.
Soon enough hell broke loose.
Still they managed to find their homes in the arms of the other.
But fate is bitter and sour and cruel.
It took away the black haired boy from his lover.
And left the other to grieve forever.
But what no one saw was the rage deep in the blues.
While the golden haired burned the world alive,
fate watched in the corner scared and small.
When the Trojans took away his home, his love, what could Achilles do except grieve for Patroclus.
And his grief brought the mighty warriors to their knees.
Troy did not not lose the war. Nor did the Greek win it.
Achilles grieved for Patroclus, and soon enough the war ended.
"listening to music in your target language is the best way to learn it" they said "it'll be fun" they said but now i'm listening to smells like teen spirit in classical latin with weird instrumentals in the background.
A girl I don't like just posted that she found a perfectly preserved vintage copy of crime and punishment in a second hand book shop.
I am livid and about to commit petty theft.
“We men are wretched things”
- Homer, The Iliad
“The gods envy us. They envy us because we are mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we are doomed.”
- Homer, The Iliad
1.12.2024- Suited Siblings With a bit of inspiration for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, I was struggling a bit with balancing chibis that range in detail/age but I always loved this on GameCube. I have a few books about it and took to trying to use the style I love. The background was also partially inspired by Slime Rancher's trees with how soft they look. This is a collection of homebrew gorgon/wendigo hybrids, the furthest being my darling Spade and the eldest being Euci. They all represent variations for the tarot/playing card suits.
Reminds me of the time when I studied for a full week in honor of Athena and was jokingly like, "I should get a reward!"
The next day I got a doll I wanted for literal years and had dreams about.
A few days ago I was joking about deserving a “Mother’s day present” because I took care of toddlers age 2-4 years old during my internship at Daycare, that same day I ordered a new candle for my beloved.
Me (Today): *Came home from picking up his candle from the pick up point in my street* Okay let’s see.
As I open the box and unwrap the candle, my face turns deadpan as I look at the candle in my hand.
Me: Trying to bite back a smile and a giggle.
It’s wrapped in gift wrapping and has a ribbon and sticker on it that says “Best mum ever!”.
Apollo: Beaming, giving off that “You asked and I delivered” energy.
I turn away from Apollo’s altar slowly, trying to be as serious as possible and hiding my shy smile.
Me: Okay, I see. I get it now, You got jokes.
So eventually I cut out the part with the ribbon and sticker and placed it on his altar (。>﹏<) ♡
When I was little and read the myths of Ancient Greece, I thought that the ancient gods were very cruel, turning people into trees. Now I am older and I want to be a tree too.
