au where rhaenyra and alicent plot to kill Otto and encapicate viserys
it would start right before aegon ii was born.
they would reconcile and begin to find comfort in one another again. which leads to alicent confessing to rhaenyra how her relationship with viserys started.
"I never wanted this Rhaenyra! My father asked me to keep Viserys company, and that's all I did. I was hoping, praying to the Gods that he would choose someone else. That he would not see me as anything else than his daughter's friend. But then he asked me if you knew of our meetings, when I said no, he asked me to keep it that way. That's when I knew that I had lost my chance to run. I am so sorry, Rhaenyra, I didn't know what to do."
Rhaenyra's face changes after Alicent's confession.
"You did nothing wrong, Alicent. Your father and my father used you. I should've been there for you. I should've protected you. I should've known that you were in trouble, but I didn't, I am sorry for not being there. We promised each other that we wouldn't let us fall into these types of marriages, that we would do anything in our power to protect each other."
Alicent didn't understand at first, but then she remembered. The promise they made to each other at 13. If they were forced to marry someone who hurt them, the other would do ANYTHING they can to save them. ANYTHING.
"Rhaenyra, surely you don't mean-" Alicent begins but is cut off by Rhaenyra.
"Look me in the eyes, Alicent, and tell me my father does not hurt you. This marriage does not kill you slowly day by day. Tell me that you are truly content and happy in this marriage. Tell me the truth."
Alicent tries to tell her that she is content. That things could be worse, but things are worse. She is forced to lie with a man old enough to be her father, forced by her father to do so. To carry his children when she was could still be considered a child.
"I can help you, Alicent. I could find a way to make this end. It would he hard of course but I can make sure that you are safe again. I swear it." Rhaenyra tells her after seeing it on her face, processing this information.
"Give me the power to do so, and I will do it. Both of them will suffer for what they have done to you. I know it will take some time, that it won't be easy but I will get it done. Just tell me this is what you want Alicent."
Alicent goes over everything in her head and tries to think of how to tell Rhaenyra no. That this isn't something that has to happen, that Alicent can survive this. But Alicent doesn't want to survive through life. She wants to live. Live happily with her children and she knows that won't happen with Viserys and her father in the picture. She won't let herself be used anymore.
"Help me, Rhaenyra, I don't think I could handle this life for all my life."
Rhaenyra embraces Alicent right when those words leave her mouth. Rhaenyra knows this will take a while to plan but she knows that she won't give up until her Alicent is free.
"Rhaenyra, I think my water just broke"
Rhaenyra was in the room during Alicent's labors the whole day. When it was announced to be a boy, they both knew that Otto would become a bigger problem than before. So they decided after Aegon ii passed his 5th moon that Otto would have to be gone.
Otto was dead before he was able to see Aegon ii reach his first nameday.
Nobody questioned his death. He was on his way to visit family in Oldtown but was lost at sea when the ship was hit by an abrupt change of weather. There was no witnesses that could explain what happened.
Viserys was a harder one to manage. Someone that just can't simply disappear, not when there is too much to lose for both of them if they don't plan ahead.
So they played the part of dutiful wife. Alicent had 2 more children. Rhaenyra made sure to hold her close whenever she found out. To make it clear that her children were innocent, they didn't cause this pain. Viserys did.
Rhaenyra played the part of dutiful heir. She focused on her lessons, small council meeting, gaining as many allies as possible. Reaching out to Rhaenys for advice on certain aspects of court and the realm.
Rhaenyra rebuilt the alliance and bond between house targaryen and house velaryen. Not Viserys
She delayed marriage as long as possible with the help of Alicent. But ultimately decided to marry Ser Harwin Strong, son of the Hand of the King
Viserys started becoming seriously ill during Rhaenyra's first pregnancy. Slowly losing the ability to truly run the realm. Rhaenyra began taking control of the small council with the help of Alicent and the Hand during the beginning of his illness.
Viserys remained bedridden or 5 years before his untimely death.
Rhaenyra was crowned queen shortly after. Alicent stayed at the Red Keep raising her children, living the life she's always wanted.
Rhaenyra and Alicent never spoke a word of their promise afterwards.
holy shit this was so much longer than I thought it was going to be.
I might make this into a full-on fic with a more in-depth happy ending.
please give me your thoughts lol
one of the things I love about HOTD is how everyone (except heleana) sucks. they are all such shitty people and I love that about them. except aegon ii, he's gross, I don't like him. (canon wise) anyway, I am very excited to see rhaenyra just start going bat shit crazy. alicent had every right to lose it during the driftmark seen so now that rhaenyra not only lost her thrown but TWO of her children at the hands of the greens, shit is about to go downnnn. I hope we see that level of just uncontrollable rage from her. she deserves to just lose it completely when it comes to bloodshed.
also in the books there is a scene where rhaenyra talks to alicent, while alicent is in the dungeons, where alicent convince rhaenyra to not kill her sons and that they can find peace. rhaenyra responds by saying that the greens lost that chance when they killed her sons and stole her throne. in the show, this scene is going to be amazing. AMAZING! especially with the new backstory alicent and rhaenyra have in it.
those are my thoughts, enjoy!
I love alicent because of this! she knew what she wanted was not okay, that she was letting her anger and her child's pain control her. she knew that lucerys was just a child and didn't deserve to lose an eye, just like aemond did not deserve to lose an eye. I hate viserys, he should've brought justice to aemond in some way and not made alicent feel crazy for being angry about her child being hurt
alicent regretted her actions after she charged at luke, she apologized to viserys after he ignored her pleas to show some concern after aemond lost an eye, and she rejected larys’ offer to take an eye from luke….honestly she’s a saint because that couldn’t be me.
Just a little heads up of what my blog will look like in the next few days
As a history buff who's been most interested in Henry 8th and his quest for a male heir and all the inheritance messes after his death, I was real fucking excited for HOTD.
The Iron throne should go to Aegon II. By all logic it really should.
Viserys got the throne by being Jaehaerys' second son's oldest son because the man didn't want his eldest son's daughter on the throne basically. That sets a president for shit:
Throne should go to the eldest son available, not to a daughter or through a daughter
Aemma dies in childbirth because Viserys wants a male heir. He wanted that boy so much that he fucking had c-section done on Aemma with no regard for her, he just wanted the son. That son would have been his heir.
Then he names Rhaenyra heir because he doesn't want to give the throne to Daemon (me neither). Viserys names Rhaenyra heir but he doesn't make a decree or law that the oldest child should inherit the throne regardless of sex. This is an exception for Rhaenyra and Rhaenyra alone.
Back to Henry 8th whose basically only known for wanting a son. Both his daughters Mary and Elizabeth went down in the line of succession when Edward was born. Even though Edward was born from a third marriage and had older sisters, he was the heir.
It's not complitely the same situation and Westerosi politics are a little different than in our medieval/early modern period but the princible is the same.
Also in a famously and unrelentingly misogynist world like Westeros a lot of people will favous Aegon on the sole point of him being a man. No matter which one is on the throne both are in danger.
Rhaenyra on the throne:
If she herself doesn't give a shit and doesn't wish Alicent's kids any harm, someone does
Aegon and his siblings are in danger by just being Viserys' children and having a very strong claim to the throne
Someone in Rhaenyra's camp will get the idea of offing Alicent's kids in the name of Rhaenyra's claim
Also Daemon is on Rhaenyra's team and I would not trust my kids' safety in his hands, he killed his wife. I would not trust him not to kill his nephews
Aegon on the throne:
Rhaenyra will be in danger by just being alive and Viserys' child
Someone in Aegon's camp gets the same idea to kill her in order to protect Aegon's claim even though he nor Alicent would want no such thing
All about the coming war could have been prevented by A) changing the inheritance law, B) not making Rhaenyra an exception and getting a male heir by second marriage, or C) making Aegon heir when he was born. Or Aegon and Rhaenyra could have married (horrible age difference but a solution) and ruled as an equal pair.
“Where is reading comprehension? Where is nuance?”
Ladies and Gentlemen, we need to make this a meme all Literature teachers and professors can get behind.
Make it happen!
alicent voice where is reading comprehension where is nuance
Yet another Sansa stan being an Alicent Stan lmao you guys need to stop being so predictable. I don't even hate her show version but the way you peeps love to latch on to a passive redheaded character who accepts her suffering in a feminine woke submissive way is getting comical at this point xD. Stan whoever you want, just keep your same old 'too-powerful-for-their-own-good' Targ takes to yourself thank you
The way you people finds ways to shame and denigrate female characters for how they handle and process patriarchal violence and abuse is absolutely astounding, and imply that there's good victims and bad victims is absolutely ridiculous. None of these characters ''accept'' their suffering. That's such an incredibly disgusting thing to say. They are young girls that live in a society that restricts and limits them, and preys upon them and these are victims to men in power that use that power to use and abuse them as they see fit. That's why (alongside a plethora of other reasons, of course) you're not going to see me shame Rhaenyra for getting groomed by her grown male uncle, or Cersei for getting abused by Robert or Daenerys for being abused by her brother for years and sold to and SAed by a grown man.
All of these characters were stripped of any real choice and power and were forced into submissiveness and passivity by their violently patriarchal society for years and years, and the most meaningful part is seeing them break out of it. Stop making weird connotations to people emotionally connecting to victims of abuse who were regulated and constrained by people that have power over them, and had to survive by enduring and pretending. Like of course this is a narrative that I would be emotionally engaged with considering how much I personally relate to a lot of aspects to it in regards to my own life and experiences, and so many other people see differing aspects of these characters and their hardships, how they endured, who they became and how they broke away from all of the limitations, and it means something to them in regards to their own lives, and that's an absolutely beautiful thing.
Sansa, for example, attempted to kill herself, attempted to push Joffrey off the tower, constantly made digs at him when she could, bolted away and refused to kneel when she was forced into marriage and continuously aimed to get out at the right time. She never ''accepted'' her suffering. She did what she had to do to survive, but there was always steel underneath even as she was only eleven/twelve. There was a lot of power to that, and there was also a lot of power in all of the moments of her faking and enduring these horrors and continuing on pretending regardless. Also, Alicent strode in, interrupted and boldly declared war at her current enemies' wedding. All of these women are forced into horrible positions, had to endure, and break away from it or take control of their lives in their own time. Even if they hadn't endure, or didn't break away from it at the end, they definitely wouldn't be ''worse victims'' for it like you seem to imply. My other issue with the other side of the HoTD fandom is how you all try to dictate who people are and are not allowed to like and what takes people are and are not allowed to have based on your own personal narratives. Also, the ''too powerful for their own good'' isn't just my Targ take, it's the whole conundrum that GRRM explicitly stated he wanted to explore with that family. Like wow I'm talking about what this man wanted his readers to talk about. Big problem. Anyways, if you don't want to see my takes, don't go to my account. Block me instead of immediately checking my account and sending hate in my inbox whenever I make a new post.

Rhaenyra & Alicent Parallels
i personally believe these walks captured their attitude at best (and their dominant colors).
when i say i'm watching a different house of the dragon than the rest of you i mean i'm watching the one with dykecent gaytower and theynyra targayean and it exists only in the beautiful minds of me and the girls on my phone
You bet your ass when Rhaenyra was riding Syrax she was calculating the logistics of kissing Alicent up in the clouds. Like would Alicent be seated in front of her or behind her? What precise degree of leaning would provide her with the greatest access to Alicents lips? Would she flirt and then lean in, or lean in and then flirt?
Rhaenyra: So are we flirting right now?
Alicent: I AM LITERALLY STABBING YOU
Rhaenyra: That doesn’t answer my question
Just saw someone call Alicent a “pick me” that still didn’t get picked.
I’m sorry this is a medieval fantasy show. She lives in a a misogynistic society. She didn’t want to be “picked”, she was just living the life that society expected of her.
Does she still have misogynistic views? Yes, but that’s because of the world that she lives in. She’s certainly not the only one with misogynistic views, but I guess it’s just easy to attack a woman instead of the system that she lives in.
As a young girl, she was forced to marry a much older man and was then raped by him (yes marital rape is still rape) and was laughed at by him, even though she did what was expected of her - having sons.
She did what she was expected of her.
Otto telling her that Rhaenyra will kill her children, is not an unreasonable assumption to make. Rhaenyra is a woman in a misogynistic society and now she has half brothers. She (Rhae) might not want to kill her brothers but she might have to + someone else from her side might take it upon themselves to kill them.
Alicent also felt betrayed by Rhaenyra and then Rhaenyra has bastard children. It’s not unreasonable to assume that Rhaenyra (or anyone supporting her claim) would get rid of any opposition to ensure her ascent to the throne and her child (Jace). Again, Rhaenyra might not want to do it, but she might have to.
Alicent wanting to protect her children is not an unreasonable thing, in the same way that Rhaenyra wanting to protect hers isn’t unreasonable either.
Alicent is not a “pick me that still didn’t get picked”, she’s a woman who lives in a highly misogynistic society that did what she thought was best for her and her children.
She never cared about being “picked”, she lived her life the way that society expected her to because she saw no other way. And she’s certainly not the first or last woman to do so.
One thing that I don’t really understand is when Alicent/Rhaenyra stans act like the other is entirely responsible for the Dance.
Okay, both definitely led towards it, but neither is entirely responsible. There were so many different elements that led towards it, and if people wish to discuss how Rhaenyra or Alicent played a part in it, that’s fine, but let’s not act like one of them is entirely to blame.
*Young Rhaenicent*
Alicent: Hey, are you okay?
Rhaenyra: Yeah, why?
Alicent: It’s just that when we were flying on Syrax you didn’t point and say “cows” when you saw them
Alicent: Aemond could you read Jaehaera a bedtime story? I need to help Helaena with Maelor.
Aemond: Sure, I can do that.
*some time later*
Alicent: *walks into Jaehaera’s bedroom* Awwww, she looks so cute when she’s sl- Aemond… What book are you holding?
Aemond: It’s my favourite, „The Art Of War” by Sun Tzu. I think Jaehaera like it’s too now.
Most team black stans were never going to like Alicent. I mean they didn’t even like her when she was a teen, so having her betray Aegon for Rhaenyra was never going to change their opinion.
Now, I said that team black stans were never going to like Alicent, which is true, but that doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t have understood her, but now? Now she’s a mother who put her son onto the throne, goes back to her ex friend from like 20 years ago, and sentences most of the people that care for her (Aegon, Aemond, Criston) to death.
The appeal of season 1 Alicent was her devotion to her children and taking away that ruins her. It makes her decisions in season 2 selfish.
Aegon didn’t want to be on the throne, but Alicent forced him to be king. She then insulted him when he was king instead of trying to guide him. Alicent in season 1 was on the small council and was basically ruling the 7 kingdoms. Remember “but it’s not a king who sits the Iron Throne these days good sister, it’s a queen”?
Aegon is close with his mother. “I want my mother” in season 1, despite her slapping him the previous day. “Mummy” in season 2. „What would you have me do?” In season 2, clearly valuing his mother’s opinion, and before this he was ranting about how nobody cares about what he has to say.
It’s clear that HOTD is pushing for Alicent to be closest with Helaena (don’t even get me started on how wasted of a character Helaena is). And I think it comes of as so unnatural because of how ignored Helaena is. Helaena barely gets any screen time and a large amount of it is with Alicent.
Her relationship with Aemond is… odd. I loved their relationship in season 1. In season 2 it feels like HOTD wants to villainise Aemond as much as possible and it comes off as ridiculous at certain points.
We don’t even see Alicent find out about Luke’s death. It could have been such a great scene. Anger because she knows what’s to come, but also maybe some happiness as she wanted Luke to be punished. After Driftmark Alicent does regret her outburst, but are you telling me that over the years she never wanted some kind of revenge? Not even passing thoughts. She could obviously feel guilty for it but these thoughts would still be there. After all, Aemond was her baby, who was harmed and had no justice, not even a “sorry”.
The point that I’m trying to make is that removing Alicent’s desire to protect her children and do anything to protect them (*cough cough* anyone remember “one day you will be our king” and Otto’s “Rhaenyra will kill your children”?) and making her character revolve around Rhaenyra, pushes away team greens, Alicent lovers and even TB’s who enjoy her character but don’t necessarily like her as a person.
Can’t wait to see book Alicent in season 3! 😍
(Please let me be delusional)

*Comes back from Storms End*
Aemond: Mummy, I have a gift for you!
Alicent: Really? *smiles* I’m assuming that means that everything went well then
Aemond: Oh, it went better than expected *gives her a little box*
Alicent: I’m so proud of y- GREAT HEAVENS
Aemond: Mummy do you like it? 🥺
